Thanks Ruan😊 I love double gauze. I’ve made 3 indigos and several tops and they are all so comfortable to wear. The Wardrobe by Me Whisper blouse is lovely in it too. My 2 tips, always stay stitch and always just hover your steam iron over the fabric 😀
Inspiring video! As a relatively beginner sewist with a very limited budget, I haven't sewn with DG yet. But I have a shirt-dress made with it and it feels SO good. It looks good too ;) Other patterns you haven't mentioned that I think would look and feel fantastic in DG are : the saguaro set, McCall's 7969, the Georgia top/dress, the harper tunic, the Cielo top/dress The clay shirt by mood fabrics Their Cladia minimal waste dress too Any simple crop top like the bow top (or something) Any baby doll style dress And any kimono/robe/kaftan style dress or vest
Hello Helen, that’s great to hear. The Winslow’s did pop into my head but wasn’t too sure. I’ve made a pair in a swishy viscose. Double gauze would be dreamy.
Thank you so much for this vlog. I went on the Hey Sew Sister website and ordered their beautiful double gauze. Brilliant service. Parcel arrived after just 24 hours. And the fabric is gorgeous. A really good company to deal with.
And there was me thinking there weren’t many patterns suitable for double gauze! 😮. I have quite a few metres of it but after seeing your vlog I’m not sure I have enough 🤣🤣. Just popped all of it in the washing machine while I decide which patterns to go for!! Great vlog. Thanks Ruan. 👍
I love double gauze! I used it when I first started sewing (before I knew to be scared of it haha!) and I find it less intimidating than jersey knits! I love the Kalle - I've made two dresses already. I think it will look fab in double gauze. I've made the Simplicity 8172 kimono and some self-drafted swimsuit coverups with double gauze. It's the perfect fabric for swim coverups because it dries fast!
I'm making my first double gauze project - as I cut out each piece I serged the edges to avoid fraying, just to be sure. I'm making the Meadow skirt from Twig and Tale. I'm planning on making an Ogden cami out of the same fabric.
Brilliant vlog. I love double gauze think it will be lovely for the summer in tops & dresses...but always wonder what to make and now I know...Great video...I'm now inspired some really lovely patterns here I now want to buy...thank you Ruan
Thank you so much for your research and for sharing this with us. There were some great patterns. Seems like another purchase is coming on lol 😂 but who is watching 😂😊❤️
The summers here in Northern California get really hot (110F), and double gauze is my favorite for loose, floaty dresses that don't stick to me. This fabric is also very forgiving, so sewing them is fast and easy. Great vlog!
Thank you Ruan. My SHJ fabric was the gorgeous royal blue colour way … and I have no idea what to make with it (except not pjs) 😊 The very helpful lady in The Stitching Room suggested I overlock all around the edge of fabrics that fray easily before I pre wash
Oh my what a lovely vlog. I love all the patterns which is very unusual for me. Other vlogs I watch they all seem to use the same pattern. Then multi make them. I like unique. Yours are lovely. Oh I have just found you and I am so glad. Now I will do some pattern looking. Thank you xx
Thanks Ruan for great suggestions. Like you I have had a piece of DG in my stash for ages and lacked the nerve to get on and use it. Will now get on with it.
Thank you so much, you’ve saved us all a ton of work, it really is appreciated. I can feel another Peppermint Paddington & a Sagebrush both in double gauze. Also eyeing up my spring dress pattern as I reckon it wants to be made in double gauze too.
Wow - what an amazing vlog on double gauze - I haven't sewn with it but some of these ideas will definitely make me rethink. I really enjoyed this vlog - as always!
Wow! What a great review of different options for using double gauze! I have never sewn with double gauze, but now you have sparked my interest! Will definitely look at some of your pattern recommendations. Look forward to seeing what you might make.
Well you have me all inspired to buy some double gauze and try my hand at it. I've been sewing for many many years but have never worked with double gauze. I will look for some big four patterns that are similar to the patterns that you were showing. Thanks for all the good information about double gauze
Wow Ruan...what a fabulous selection of patterns for double gauze 💞👌. I've made one blouse from double gauze, but now want to make so many more, due to your fab inspirational vlog 🙏...Thanks so much for putting in the work for this...your a 🌟 😁🙌💖😘
Fantastic vlog, so my inspirational help. Poundfabrics have some inexpensive double gauze, that first time users might fancy trying. I’ve never used it before and have several of the patterns you have suggested, so happy sewing. Love the idea of PJ’s in this fabric too.
Thank you so much for this brilliant video. I have saved it for future reference. The tips really encouraged me to get a little adventurous without the pitfalls. The pattern research was wonderful. Thanks again. BTW, I love your sense of humor.
Morning Ruan, wow great video. I think you gave us a lot to get started with. Going down the rabbit hole of double gauze. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday. Val❤️🇨🇦🇬🇧
By eck, you've out done yourself lass😲😲 So many ideas & I have quite a few of the pattern suggestions. Just got to decide what to do first..........👍 Thanks for the great video😃
I have the animal print one, which I'm making the Friday pattern company Sage Brush top 😀 Thank you for taking the time to research and film this vlog.
Thank you for all these valuable resources Ruan. So much fun to see all the things you are making. Very tempting to subscribe to Sew Hayley Jane but worried I would just accumulate and not know what to do with it. Maybe if I get a bit better at sewing. With my quilting fabric, it's not an issue because if I make things scrappy enough lots of colors with blend just by using value and neutral backgrounds.
Thank you 😊. Yes I know what you mean about the SHJ subscription box. The good thing about it is you can stop it at any time so if you started to accumulate you could stop it for a while. I quite like having a few fabrics to choose from now 😍
@@theyorkshiresewgirl Watching this for the second time a year later. Think I will make the Friday Pattern company square neck top. I actually just finished two tops I will hashtag to join in the SewFrugal23 challenge. Can't thank you enough for all your encouragement to keep going. xx
Yo Ruan!!! Great list! I made the Paddington outta a Japanese Kokka gauze and it turned out fab. I added buttons but just sewn to the plackets instead of the buttonholes! WORD OF WARNING- this pattern is super short! I added 2 inches and it still only hit me at the top of my pants. I am 5’5. If I make it again, I will lengthen it by at least 3 MORE inches!!!!
I love double gauze, I wanna make a woven tee for the summer, I made a pair of dungarees (heydays waves and wild) from some white and black squiggle DG, the nicest thing to wear on a really hot day
Thank you Ruan for the most fantastic informative video, you have done so much work and preparation, and it is really appreciated. As a beginner, this will help me so much. You should do some sewing workshops or an arena tour, you'd sell out in minutes ❤
I used double gauze to make a super soft myosotis dress,😊 and it turned out really well! The trillium dress comes together quickly, and is fantastic to showcase nice fabric.
Wow Ruan what a fab vlog! Thanks so much for all your time and effort in researching double gauze, I've had some in my stash for ages and after watching your vlog will definitely be looking to make something from all your amazing suggestions, just a brilliant resource for us all, your a star! ⭐🌟🥰
Made the square neck top last night ( whilst hubby was away!! He he) it’s lovely in viscose twill and takes very little fabric as you say! I lengthened it by an inch or so and graded out at bottom. Great instructions also!! Winner🏆
Meet you there dress and top by pattern emporium. I have made two tops out of it in double gauze in the past month and love them both. So comfortable and easy to wear. I love your videos! 💕
Great video, thank you Ruan, very informative. I love Double Gauze. I have made a Wrapped over skirt with Double Gauze, with my first SHJ DG last summer. I am going to make Darling dress, from Megan Nilson, in my latest DG from SHJ for my daughter again. For my Sagebush top and love it.
Oh Ruan thank you for this timely in-depth vlog. I’ve been lusting after double gauze for the last few weeks but have been a bit flummoxed as to what to make. Some fantastic suggestions here I am sooo gonna try. I just bought the Alice top/dress pattern from Tessuti and I think that would work well too, lovely and peasanty with lots of ease.
Wow that's brilliant. Definitely some in there that I wouldn't have thought of. I've got the Remy so that's deffo going to get made in double gauze. Thanks so much Ruan 🙏 💓 ☺
That was really helpful.....I've always struggled to know what to do with double gauze but since watching your video I've made two things! PJ bottoms (fabulous!) and the Seychelles top (long sleeved) by Itch to Stitch. The Seychelles is designed to be made in a drapy material but it works beautifully in double gauze...I actually found it easier to sew up in double gauze that viscose. Has lovely shaping to looks great on.
Amazing and thank you for taking the time to research all of this - I didn't think double guaze was so versatile and just thought of it as pj material x
Thank you for your time looking at double gauze and giving inspiration with these patterns, great video!👍👍I’m just working on my first double gauze project having seen your pjs last year. Using a elasticated waist pattern from my stash not used before, ( from a mag in the 80’s! ) all cut out and ready to stitch! The Ellie and Mac is a great suggestion, so many variations. I’ve got it in the project pile, pinned on jersey, but do have more double gauze in the stash🤔thanks again
Well done Ruan that was a brilliant vlog. I can’t believe there are so many gorgeous free patterns out there. Your choices were spot on and the pictures you put up of the double gauze look divine. Thanks for taking the time to do that and for putting a smile on my face along the way. “What you doing wi hat on” funny 😂😂 I thought the stevie dress from TATB would be another good choice too. Look forward to your ne t vlog 😍😍
Very informative. You’ve confirmed my decision to make an Indigo top out of double gauze. The new additional hack makes it even more versatile. Have also ordered some star patterned double gauze to make a baby blanket. Has anyone else noticed how much the cost of double gauze can vary? You expect Japanese fabric to be expensive but even plain double gauze can be so expensive.
Hi Ruan! Thank you for doing all the research and for all the wonderful ideas for sewing with double gauze. I have made a couple of things! one was a cocoon dress which I think was a free pattern with Love Sewing magazine and I have made the Remy Raglan too! I am definitely interested in making some PJs and may be a skirt. I do have the Donovan and Mave skirt patterns. There are so many lovely double gauze fabrics but I’m trying to resist as I do still have some in my stash😉
Thanks for the vlog Ruan, I made the Itch to Stitch, Palermo Peasant blouse from the Sew Beautiful book in double gauze. It's a great top and comes with a dress version too.
I have been thinking which pattern to use my small cuts of double gauze. I have 2 one metre pieces ,so found this really interesting. Years ago I made a Bettine dress in lovely pink spot double gauze before I really knew anything about it and was in my Bettine phase 😆 It worked really well and barely needs ironing and doesn’t bag out too much. I’ve thought that the top part could make a very good option. I’ve made that several times in other fabrics. Thanks for this as think pjs would work really as can’t see pjs working in viscose for me, creased to bits and needing ironing.
Hi Ruan, I have made a Charlie Caftan in double gauze( SHJ, one you did your pjs in) and I love it. I have made the Olive dress in cotton lawn, it’s a beautiful dress but I found the triangular insert a bit challenging so I think it would be tough getting that right in double gauze. I also have made the peppermint loungewear in dg. They are so comfy. It’s a great fabric. I’m going to make Stevie in my dg from SHJ this month ( same colour way as yours), the fabric is delicious! Can’t wait for the summer!
I love those silk pins. They work really well. I had trouble with the square neck top. The neck was loose and the hips were tight. Might want to toile.
Thank you for this vlog, I now know what double gauze is and what to do with it . Cant wait to give it a go, think I'm going to start with some pyjamas 🤗 xx
Great information! Our double gauze is crazy expensive here but since I have a very close friend of my daughter`s expecting this year I`m going to pick up a small piece to make a light weight blanket for the wee one!
OMG woman what have you started. You know when you shouldn't go food shopping when you're hungry - well I shouldn't watch UA-cam on a Sunday -another rabbit hole for me then. Thanks so much for the review I know it must take you sometime & you're a busy mum. Really appreciate it. Off to watch Andrea's live stream shortly which could result in buying double gauze. 🙄
Fabulous video!!!!! Few bits there that are now on my huge list 😉 only made two bits in double gauze (stevie and the recital blouse) and love both. I think I’ll be getting more! Thanks for putting this together!!!
Thanks Ruan😊 I love double gauze. I’ve made 3 indigos and several tops and they are all so comfortable to wear. The Wardrobe by Me Whisper blouse is lovely in it too.

The clay shirt by mood fabrics
Their Cladia minimal waste dress too
Any simple crop top like the bow top (or something)

It worked really well and barely needs ironing and doesn’t bag out too much. I’ve thought that the top part could make a very good option. I’ve made that several times in other fabrics.
Thanks for this as think pjs would work really as can’t see pjs working in viscose for me, creased to bits and needing ironing.
Ooh don’t you just love double gauze 😍. It’s just so comfy isn’t it!
I am going to try and make me some pjs. Thank you so much.
Yay Vicki!
Ruan, My 3rd time re-watching this video, this time with paper & pencil! xo, Melanie
Oh that’s great! So glad you’ve got some use out of it 😊
Enjoy your ideas ❤
Thank you! 😊
Hi Ruan than you for an amazing video love to see what you do with your material Dawn
Thank you so much Dawn 😊
Fantastic info, thanks for taking the time to put all this together 😘. You've also reminded me of a few patterns I have lounging in my stash!!
Oh yay! Go get those patterns out and go for it 🥳🥳
That’s so helpful, thanks Ryan xx
You’re welcome ☺️
Thank you, Ruan. Great video - just cutting out a pattern for some double gauze now based on one of your suggestions!
Oh wow Karen. That’s brilliant 🤩
Oh wow! You are the double gauze queen 👸🏼 Mary 🥳🥳🥳
Thank you so much for the effort you put into this vlog. I love wearing double gauze in the summer and you’ve given me tons of ideas.
That’s brilliant Joyce! You’re right…such a gorgeous fabric for the summer!
I love those silk pins. They work really well. I had trouble with the square neck top. The neck was loose and the hips were tight. Might want to toile.
Yes the neck was loose on me too! Definitely going to have to adjust it for next time 👍🏼
thank you Ruan, your video came at the perfect time! I just purchased 2 lengths of double gauze and this was very helpful 🤩
Yay! Glad it was of help 😊
Thanks Ruan for another great video. Incidentally, yesterday I ordered the chalk and notch Fringe dress and some double gauze online......woo hoo.
Yay Karen! That will look gorgeous 😍
Thank you for this vlog, I now know what double gauze is and what to do with it . Cant wait to give it a go, think I'm going to start with some pyjamas 🤗 xx
Oooh PJs are the best on DG Susan 🥳
Great information! Our double gauze is crazy expensive here but since I have a very close friend of my daughter`s expecting this year I`m going to pick up a small piece to make a light weight blanket for the wee one!
Oh how lovely will that be Cecile 🥰
@@theyorkshiresewgirl my thought was to do two layers with a very thin batting and quilt it in the Japanese sashiko style then self bind it
@@cecilehoare3053 😍😍
Brilliant vlog Ruan 😘thanks for all your great insight and research, will defo be making double gauze Peppermint jimjams in the future xx
Yay! We can have a little double gauze pj gang 🤪
Didn't think I'd be buying the Trillium pattern at 4am..but guess what?!
Brilliant blog.
Ha. That’s brilliant! Hope you like it. Such a gorgeous pattern 😍
He he Tracy! I went down such a big rabbit hole I wasn’t sure I’d ever resurface 🤣🤣
Fabulous video!!!!! Few bits there that are now on my huge list 😉 only made two bits in double gauze (stevie and the recital blouse) and love both. I think I’ll be getting more! Thanks for putting this together!!!
It’s a good excuse to buy more don’t you think?! 🤪
Such great information! I recently made an Eadie jumpsuit from Style Arc, in double gauze. So comfortable.
Oooh that sounds lush Michelle!
