I miss Nancy so much - RIP. A consummate professional at sewing and teaching her craft. Thank you for leaving a legacy of sewing.
Indeed! May she RIP. We were blessed to learn from her, & be inspired by her clear instructions. She continues to inspire me. Happy sewing 🧵.
Rest her soul. I miss her, too. It is easy to learn from her.
I love watching her sewing shows! Beautiful Friend!!♡
Simply the best and never been matched in my opinion x
I know Nancy is loved beyond our limited imaginings however I am grateful her videos remain online and free to inspire and teach and remind me how much her shows helped me through transitional times in my youth and mature years.
I watched Nancy every Saturday morning for years. I learned so much. I really miss her.
Before UA-cam...there was Nancy, This woman literally taught me how to sew. 😊
Grateful that Nancy is still able to reach us through these videos. She has always been one of the most knowledgeable teachers and is still tops. Thank you PBS Wisconsin for making this valuable material available. What a blessing Nancy was!
Such a useful and easy way to adjust patterns. Nancy was the greatest!
and she did it upside down and backwards. I miss her still
You are a pretty amazing teacher too young lady.
@@annewhitney8809 Awww, thank you so much!
I bought Nancy's Pattern Fitting book and made a blouse using her adjustments. So pleased with the fitting. Am just saddened I can't thank her for her knowledge. I hope she's looking down on all of us. RIP Nancy, and thank you so very much.
Every year or so, i need to review this video before i start making clothes for myself.
Thanks for posting them.
Welp, this is the easiest and most understandable way of altering a pattern to fit that I’ve seen yet! I always have loose shoulders and neckline (thanks to my ins and outs, lol). I’m so grateful to Nancy and the folks who’ve uploaded this to UA-cam! I can’t wait to use this method! ❤
Geesh , as a tall gal with a long torso, I really appreciate her easy dart lowering technique. Thank you Nancy, we miss you!!
I can't remember what days her show would come on or would be aired on my local PBS back in the day, but I would sit and watch, making sure my VCR recorded her show. She inspired so much confidence in me that I started sewing professional work clothes for my husband and for myself. Thirty years later, she is re-igniting that same excitement.
Wow, so logical and quite easy adjusting. Thanks to Nancy (R.I.P.). I so admired her talents.
This is brilliant! I miss Nancy.
I love and miss this beautiful, gifted, talented human being so much. Rest with the angels Nancy ❤
She was great. I love her videos. She will live on through her life's work.
Rest in peace, Nancy.
What a great legacy this lady left ❤❤❤
She explained it so easy why did i watch this year’s ago?
Fantastic tutorial from me in Australia 🇦🇺
I so miss this show. She was a wonderful teacher!! RIP!
Thank you Nancy wonderful video and such clarity in your teaching ! I have watched your show for many years and I was sad to hear you had passed on. Rest in perfect peace and thank you for inspiring so many of us!
Just so grateful for her simplicity and unique, easy fitting tips xx
Re: Marking pens, there are pens that don't bleed thru - Mr. Pen.
This alteration process answers the fitting question - grateful to Nancy!
Wonderful videos by a wonderful lady.
Normally, I never sew for myself but now I have the pattern, and the fabric, and I can't wait to start. Nancy really was the best. Thank goodness we still have her books and videos
What a wonderful life work Nancy achieved! This episode is a treasure that will solve so many problems. When I saw her bring out the mini practice patterns I realized that I can try it for altering doll clothes patterns for different brands of dolls with the same height but highly variable proportions - great practice idea.
Nancy was truly wonderful. ❤
Thank you, Nancy! Miss you much! I owe you!
This is simply genius
Oh Nancy, what a loved lady you were in life and still after. I miss you so. But my guess is that the angels needed a Sewist who could make new angel wings.
Oh this is amazing. What a wonderful lady. I am looking for part 2
Great technique! Love Nancy's tutorials! 😍
Wow! Thank you for your clear and clever instruction. This is wonderful. I now have the confidence to have a go at this myself.
This was an awesome video.
Oh my gosh! Light bulb moment! I have struggled fitting patterns to my short and stout body. This makes it so much more clear.
Thank you so much Nancy for making this show on adjusting a commercial pattern.
I have been getting so frustrated recently in trying to adjust my patterns and had thought about giving up. You have renewed my confidence in pattern adjustment by producing such a great lesson this.
Amazing clarity to the pattern puzzle.
Just follow the points.
Sorry
Pivot.connect the dots.
Was there a part two to this amazing video? Love her techniques and easy to understand directions. Such a talented woman. She will be forever missed.
Yes, on UA-cam there's a VHS video upload "Sewing with Nancy - Fitting Finesse" on the Pfaff Talk channel.
Exact same instructions and includes the entire series, recorded in 1994.
She makes it easy to understand
Oh, I am so saddened that Nancy has passed away. Her tutorials have been so very helpful when I was knitting or sewing a difficult pattern.
She made it look so simple.
This video has blown my mind - fantastic! Thank you.
Hi Nancy. I used to watch you when I was in high school...I'm not going to tell you how long ago that was. lol. My mom used to take my measurements and cinch it up 2 inches Just her non verbal way of saying I was fat. No wonder my clothes never fit right. Good times. I miss her. I'm so glad for this tutorial. I've been looking for it for a long time.
Hi! Jane here. Thank you for the detailed, yet easy to understand instructions. I especially appreciate the information concerning the princess seamed version.
I need to make changes to increase the waist but not the hips. I’m going to give this a try.
Wow, amazing tutorial. Thank you.
She was awesome!!
Thank you. This is going to be a great help for a better fit 💕
Best pattern adjustment method - thank you.
Wonderful video! My issue with pattern sizing is the amount of ease they give. In most cases the garment ends up being way too big.
This is my issue too, I just made a dress for the first time and it was too big and now I'm trying to figure out how to make patterns fit me, I'll try this technique next time, fingers crossed I'll get a better result!
Maybe the size is too big or you can use the guide lines to take off where it is too large ,take measures on your self first don't get discouraged, hope this help been sewing since I was 14 in Italy now 71
Many patterns have finished garment sizes printed on them but even with that things need adjustments.I’ve been sewing since I was a kid but still learning new things. Great that these videos are posted.
Be sure to compare your body measurements on the size chart on the pattern and use the patterns size. DON'T use your regular "store" clothing size.
I ♥ Nancy!
Wow so glad I found your tutorial. This is fantastic!
This is such a helpful video! I wish Nancy were here… Maybe someone else could answer my question. Is there a point where the bust, waist, and hip adjustments are so big that you should begin with a larger size than indicated by the “right size” measurement? So, my bust requires a 5” larger adjustment and my waist requires a 13” change. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The pattern is for a woven top that has a gathered neckline and hangs fairly straight on the sides.
You can only go up to 4 inches with the pivot and slide technique. After you've done that, you can add the extra inch by doing an extension. See timestamp 54:18 on this video. ua-cam.com/video/mJnjA9Lj654/v-deo.html
Thanks Nancy very much i adore ur videos ❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏
Thank you very simple and clear
Great video, thankyou.
Is this another way of doing a FBA
Ingenious!!
Hi you may find some of Nancy's videos on PFAFF Talk. They have quite a few. Also PBS. Hope that helps.
This is so helpful!
Great video! Thank you!
Are the free mini patterns still available for download.
Hi! A great video. Thanks very much. Where can I download the free mini-patterns that Nancy refers to please? I've tried going to the website she mentions, but it just takes me to the PBS Wisconsin site where I can watch the video, but there's no link anywhere to download the patterns. Can you please help? Thanks!
I would like to find those, too. I have actually looked for a few years.
Since Nancy has passed away and these videos are over 10 years old… they may not exist anymore. If anything, her company still exist so you may try asking their customer service department. But PBS needs to put a disclaimer that these patterns don’t exist anymore.
Wow so helpful… really straightforward and no nonsense….
I have particular difficulty pattern adjusting for my daughter… the ratio of measurements between front and back are really off … no idea what to do about it ….. I sew because it’s hard to buy clothes that fit ….
Well I’ll be . Gotta try this
This is very interesting and seems easy enough to follow. Thankyou very much! I’d like to see a garment that actually fits properly lol
This is very interesting ty.
Aww I've only stumbled across this brilliant video, so clearly explained only to discover the lovely lady giving instructions is no longer with us, how sad as she's an inspiration.
I was wondering if anyone knew of a right size measurement chart for UK sizes?
Really helpful instruction video.looks very simple and I am going to try it out. Does anyone know if there is a part 2 and if so where can I find it? I am in the UK
Hi, Silvia both parts of this video and the mini pattern pieces can be found on her website. I found them under the "blog & pattern fitting" tab. Best of luck!
She also has a pattern fitting book with this information and more. Amazon has an omnibus of three of her books.
Thanks, this made a lot of sense.
If I tried this method, I think I would also, cut out a prototype from it and quickly sew it together to see if it fits.
Yes, you use muslin (or an old sheet). In dressmaking we call this "making a muslin" 😂
You can also make changes to the muslin with pins or markings and unsew it, using the muslin as your pattern or transfer those marks to the tracing paper.
Should we assume that there are no mini pattern files available anymore? I remember Nancy from long ago. She’s really so great at what she does. Or did. I heard from another video tutorial that she passed away. Sad to hear that.
Hi, see Lynn O C's response to Sylvia Cockrell for how to find them.
@@rmorine6394 Thank you for responding. I went to her website a while back and searched under the blog and pattern fitting piece but they weren't there.
This is so helpful, thank you for that
If the center front is on the fold, do I double side seam changes or split the total change by 3 for back and two side seams
i don think so, because the difference was divided by four and it is four sides on a garment, if it’s one inch to be added, should be 1/4 inch on each of the four sides, two at the front (double) en two on the back.
Is part 2 available?
It doesn't appear to have been uploaded to UA-cam, but you can find part two on the PBS Wisconsin website at pbswisconsin.org/watch/best-sewing-nancy/solving-the-pattern-fitting-puzzle-part-two-pvrkfp/
I've been on your website and found these videos but no download for the mini patterns, please can you help?
Does anyone know why she started out with a size 10 pattern?
Yes, so the pattern would fit well in the neck and shoulders.
Great video. Is there a way to see all of just the Sewing with Nancy videos without having to sort through all the Wisconsin PBS videos? I’m only interested in her videos.
On the Wisconsin PBS site go to the looking glass symbol, it's on the top row of the site. Type in, Sewing with Nancy, then hit the enter key on your computer. it should bring up all of her episodes. This can be done on other web pages also. Hope this helped.
Wish the captions worked - they are only blinking on and off. Sadly, cannot follow along without them.
Where is part 2?!
❤
My name is Wanda , I would like to buy help me how to make pattern for s, m, large, x large , 2x
The commercial pattern pieces seem to have some sort of a backing on them. Does anybody know what that is? Thanks in advance.
Yes, I;m 87 and forgetful but for lack of the correct word, which will come to me later, it's light weight material that is also sewn or pressed onto fabric such as cuffs or collars or wherever you need to "beef" it up. Darn, I've sewed all my life and now I can't remember simple words!~!
Well that makes perfect sense! I was struggling with finding the word (I knew what you were talking about, just not what to call it, ha ha!) Finally figured out it's "interfacing." Right? (I'll be 70 in November and this last year has found me struggling mightily with my memory. Kind of scary. Thank you so much for answering.
Easy-knit interfacing
@@Digame1097 Thank you. I guess we would use the iron to fuse to pattern piece? Seems kind of dangerous!! Thanks for your reply.
I’ve never tried it but would think you would use a lower heat and press cloth? I have ironed regular paper before without a problem
I don’t understand where you go from there. Your pattern was hanging off the paper
Please how can l get the patterns?
She is showing you how to work with *any pattern.
I’ve never understood why the big 4 pattern measurements are so wrong when choosing the pattern size. It makes absolutely no sense that they would handicap sewers, especially new ones, this way. Indie pattern companies are so much better with measurements.
Best pattern adjustment method - thank you.
