The Simpsons, which is currently in its 33rd season and has more than 700 episodes to its credit, will always remain a significant part of popular culture and American history. Even South Park admitted that The Simpsons have essentially done everything with their iconic Simpsons Already Did it episode, in which the catchphrase "Simpsons did it!" is repeatedly shouted.
The Simpsons, however, haven't simply achieved everything; they've also had a very good track record of making accurate predictions. Some episodes from the show's three-decade existence have become startlingly (and frightfully) real years later when history seemed to closely resemble the show. These are the 10 most astonishing and shockingly true predictions made by the show, even if there have been an unexpectedly high number of them (some sources list as many as 30).
Faulty voting machines (season 20, episode 4)
Homer tries to cast his ballot for Barack Obama in the chilly opening of Treehouse of Horror XIX, but the voting machine keeps recording his vote for John McCain (the episode aired on November 2, 2008, just two days before the election). The voting machine kills Homer when he attempts to tell someone.
This exact same incident occurred during the 2012 presidential election, except the murder. On a touchscreen voting system in Pennsylvania, a voter kept hitting the "Barack Obama" button, yet the machine kept showing a vote for Romney even though their finger was firmly on the Obama button. The Simpsons would frequently make jokes about voting, including in 2016 and 2020.
