So fun story: I was sailing back to my main base at night when a serpent attack. "Cool," I think, because trophies and scales and meat are never bad. So I bait it to shore, harpoon it, and drag it to shore . . . right in the middle of some Graydwarves who immediately attack . . . the Serpent. As more Graydwarves run out of the woods I book it: I'm near an old mining base that I can shelter in. Except that the graydwarves are ignored me and attacking the serpent I'm still dragging behind me, and soon enough they're joined by boars and necks, all going after this poor creature. It's trying as hard as it can to get back into the water while being swarmed by the forces of nature while I'm just sitting there watching the show in disbelief. Once the poor thing finally dies I go clean up the mess, collect my loot, and continue on my merry way home :D

The easiest way to find sea serpents is to play with me. They lurk about 100 feet offshore waiting for me to even think about getting in a boat. No idea how I acquired this curse but it makes finding top tier food a breeze! :P
I didn’t know about serpents cause I started yesterday and I got on a raft and sailed to a new island with 3 trips and not once did I encounter one maybe us playing together will balance it out 😂
Sometimes I wonder if being cursed is an actual mechanic. I always play with couple of friends and each one of us is always hunted by different mob. I'm always hunted by Trolls, my bro is always targeted by wolfs, and our friend is always hunted by mosquitos... And it's like nobody other than me will come across any trolls when I always meet 2 stars, etc.

I was fortunate to have a friend to assist me in digging the canal, which was a short one, and the process only took us less than three hours. If it were just me, I would have taken the entire day to complete it. Great video, helped me understand a few of the basics a bit better, and the fishing part was completely new to me. The first time I made a raft, I got killed by a serpent. Hadn't even made a bow yet, and I didn't even know about the wind direction, so I basically just got stuck in the ocean and killed. The second time I encountered one was like 50 days later; I was in a Karve and I led it to shore where it fell to a barrage of arrows. Next time I'm going to have a harpoon with me, thanks to this guide.
I heard in the roadmap they plan to make ocean biome more playable. Imagine they make a new fish ressource only fhishible in ocean to make special meals, really cool. Imagine they make like gostships with a few draugr (new variant) on it, with high tier loot, really cool. Imagine they make new threats aside the serpents, i don't know what they can bring us (maybe aggressive birds idk) but this idea seems pretty cool.
Well the ocean is a vast waste if they don't add more to it, could have more islands with special treasures to dig up, add more mobs out there, maybe add coral reefs and make super cool coral armor and weapons, also fishing in the ocean biome would have more fish for fishing and make special meals with it. Lots to do with an ocean.

The part on serpents has some mistakes. I ran some tests on a server to get an idea of how they really work (pathing and spawning). They do not "spawn at night" they're always there. Lets say serpent X spawns at coordinates 11,11. it'll always hang out around there, they seemingly don't have a large roaming path. When you aggro that serpent and kite it all the way to 44.44, it will stay at there forever unless killed. Super useful and good video. Thanks for putting it together - the only thing I sat here thought could be added, would be the beginners tips for building a boat-stop aka harbor. It's been an issue when entering the ocean and banking a shore, that the ship gets destroyed. Of course it mostly spawns a container with the stuff in it, or have the materials sink to the bottom. But would love your thoughts and tips on this :)
I know I'm hella late to this, but when you're fishing, you can just walk away from the shore once the fish has bit and you won't consume stamina while pulling it.
Boats go fastest with the wind in the bright yellow section (directly to port and starboard) of the ship UI. NOT behind them this is true to real life and a legitimate mechanic in the game
I actually Travemünde with the Raft alongside the Coast, so there will never Spwan a Serpant. And if i am so close that i dies and it targets me i will eventuelly make it to the Coast.
I think they changed cooking serpent. You can't cook it ok a tiny wooden thing over a fire anymore. You get a message saying it's not sturdy enough or something. You get this big metal thing you put over a big fire pit. Can't remember the names of it sorry. There's a lot of fish in this game now. You can make different bait using the main bait as an ingredient. Do different fish give you different stats?
While the sea/fishing mechanic seemed really cool it doesn't actually do something significant in your gameplay. Fish meat can only give a bit of buff compared to land. Getting the rod is pain in the ass too because you need to find halidor. You can stumble upon him by luck yes, but the rod is kinda pricey sure you could easily get 350 gold but to me it just doesn't worth the resources and time. But sure exploring ocean is fun really especially when in coop hope they would add more content for it and be more rewarding.
The devs could do more with the trader. Maybe building materials or tools/weapons/armour/potions. Which would help if your death run was in a sticky place and you were struggling to retrieve your best kit.
Serpent scale shield is actually the second best shield when fully upgraded, it doesnt only look nice, but it works pretty well and blocks too, whether it's against fulings, loxes or wolves, so i'd recommend anyone to get it and fully upgrade at least until you get blackmetal shield.
It doesn’t parry so this isn’t true. It is true in terms of blocking power so it’s a good choice for blocking deathsquitos before you get black metal but silver shield can also block them but allows you to parry. Parrying is much more important than block power.
The fact that giant trolls.. Monster Serpents and flaming elementals are low tier enemies.. And green guys with stick and flying mosquitos are late game top tier enemies.. Shows they litterly trolling.. It's like having dragons as the first enemy then giant rats as the end boss.
They could go smaller than that and have the chance of catching a virus from certain biomes and the option of getting a jab from the trader to make you immune (for a couple of day cycles) so you could safely explore those biomes while vaxxed :)
I'll leave this información here, there is a way to sail even if you have counter wind, by sailing in zigzag, the game have a very realistic way of wind sailing, I advice to look up, wind sailing on YT, you'll thank me later
Chitin is pronounced kia-tin or ky-tin... The c makes the k sound..... I too use to say chitin and then i heard someone say it so i googled it and learned myself something.
I've only recently started playing this on Xbox, but the fact that Valheim's seas are still this stagnant is kinda disappointing. No sea based mini bosses (Or mini bosses period), and of all these enemies you're telling me that none of them know how to sail a ship? Not even Fulings or Dwarves? The game is amazing so far, but I feel more should be done with the Vanilla game, especially since mods aren't accessable on Xbox.

Thanks, glad you liked it. I’ll have a think about your suggestion.
I know I'm hella late to this, but when you're fishing, you can just walk away from the shore once the fish has bit and you won't consume stamina while pulling it.
Yup
Boats go fastest with the wind in the bright yellow section (directly to port and starboard) of the ship UI. NOT behind them this is true to real life and a legitimate mechanic in the game
I actually Travemünde with the Raft alongside the Coast, so there will never Spwan a Serpant. And if i am so close that i dies and it targets me i will eventuelly make it to the Coast.
great video, sub earned!
Thanks for the sub!
Sure, I can see where you’re coming from there. I agree it would be nice if there was a bigger reward for getting the rod. Thanks for watching.
The devs could do more with the trader. Maybe building materials or tools/weapons/armour/potions. Which would help if your death run was in a sticky place and you were struggling to retrieve your best kit.
Great guide
Thanks dude
Haha 😂 true
They could go smaller than that and have the chance of catching a virus from certain biomes and the option of getting a jab from the trader to make you immune (for a couple of day cycles) so you could safely explore those biomes while vaxxed :)

If I hadn't seen this video and ended up on a sinking leviathan, I think I would be chitin my pants.
Solid Video
🙏 thank you
It's better to use a harpoon and drag a serpent to land though, the scales do indeed sink!
I'll leave this información here, there is a way to sail even if you have counter wind, by sailing in zigzag, the game have a very realistic way of wind sailing, I advice to look up, wind sailing on YT, you'll thank me later
great video
Lure the serpent to a swamp, the leeches will kill it fast
Serpent shield vs death squito, serpent shield goatee,

The meat from serpents CANNOT be cooked right away. It says my cooking pit isn't a high enough level.

Its pronounced ki-tan
Yup
I've only recently started playing this on Xbox, but the fact that Valheim's seas are still this stagnant is kinda disappointing. No sea based mini bosses (Or mini bosses period), and of all these enemies you're telling me that none of them know how to sail a ship? Not even Fulings or Dwarves? The game is amazing so far, but I feel more should be done with the Vanilla game, especially since mods aren't accessable on Xbox.
Super outdated Guide
a very underrated video. thanks for the vid it was excellent and gave all the information i could need.
Aw thanks, I'm glad you found it useful.
