Sooo much I could comment on this vid… Anyway, sorry to hear you had enough. I know the feeling. Running about 20.000BB under AIEV myself the last few years. The constant career long downswing basically. Hope it does well for you and I’m sure it will give you more energy to do your other stuff! I think you are actually a relatively strong player. Definitely better then many YT players who “claim” to be good, play higher, give strategic advice etc. you are humble and down to earth about your skill level as well. I don’t know what it means to hear from a random internet guy but I do play HS professionally for over a decade fwiw… Regarding SB flats I don’t think they are a bad idea to have in your game even as a default without a whale. Like Ben says though it probably requires you to study them or else you just cost yourself money by involving yourself in weird spots you feel clueless in and end up messing up that plus taking focus from other stuff. Vs small opens from EP it especially makes sense. BB can’t squeeze as much naturally bc RFI is stronger and you get a good price on call and “worse price” on 3b. When ppl open 2x from the early pos I do flat SB and there’s quite a lot of good coming from that.
great comment and actually very uplifting for our boy nick. I agree with you too - he definitely is/had the capacity to be a strong player but clearly his lack of love for the game gets in the way of him reaching by full potential 🙏
Personally I think some of the strategy is off. Maybe its right mathematically or GTO, But getting in pre so much is just asking for pain. In Smaller to mid stakes most of the big errors are on turn and river. That’s just me though.
I think the studying point at the end is a massive factor. I would say take a break and commit to study before each session and then focus on finding the new content you've learned in the session. I've been going through a similar time as you both but having the confidence to know what I'm doing is good thanks to study has been helping my mental game massively. Bad beats don't tilt me. My own mistakes through autopilot and loss of focus do, which then leads to more mistakes and more tilt and so on. Sorry I'm rambling lol love both your content lads!
if that’s the case then take a big old break and/or play formats you enjoy! maybe that’s an occasional game with your mates, or firing a local casino mtt once in a while
Easty, you say things like, "Ah, they're not aggressive enough, they always have it." Then you get aces on the sb, they 4bet from the button... and you... ... just call. Both things can't be true, if it's true they always have it... then you should be 5bet shoving aces all the time there.
Ben, you provided some really great strategical insights in this one. Poker is so brutal though i can totally empathise with Nick's bitterness and callousness.
Ben, when you say you should probably mix this for X frequency etc in the video, Im not sure you are just referring to gto as a baseline or actually advance for Nick to do that? It’s good to have an idea obv about the baseline but I much prefer to try and figure out which is the highest EV play in reality rather then mixing for the sake of mixing. Think it was the AKs hand for example. Think both the bet ott and the fold are really good as pure actions even if the solver was to confirm your frequencies. Assuming an unknown reg at NL100 which I think was the opponent in the hand.
good point - I’m saying what I believe to be theory but also I’m not advising he mixes. I probably needed to make this a lot clearer for the viewer though. we only wanna mix when we’re adamant villain is responding very well (which is naturally very rare, especially at 100nl). as a bucket vs an unknown id also pure bet turn and pure fold vs raise
On the 55 river fold to raise jam, Easty only needs approx 29% equity to call bottom boat. For this amount of equity needed, it seems this is a call and move on - in my pool anyway.
@@Smokey525 nah bro idk i dont play these games but i have never met a player in any pool i play in that has close to 29% bluffs in a line like this ☺️ But good for you if you do, you prolly are playing with some true psychos! Cheers and Merry christmas!❤️
Easty doesn't understand that money is a frequency of emotions. If you understand that phrase than poker is just a reflection of your own emotions. It doesn't matter how many time you run belove EV AIPF. You have to love the game and have passion to become the greatest player of all time. If you do not have that burning desire in you then there is no reason to play. I speak from personal experience if you are playing poker it just feel numb. And you only are playing because you have no other purpose in life or out of straight boredom.
I've always felt that easty just throws around GTO terms without real understanding or being able to work out the correct strategy for himself. He's constantly trying - and failing - to remember the GTO sizing or play rather than having absorbed it into his own thinking through study. He's also adamant that his deviations based on player stats are correct even though we saw multiple examples of players showing up with unexpected hands in just a short sample.
Pure GTO is a losing strategy nowadays, because no one can play GTO perfectly. You need to put some work in MDA and exploit population tendencies to be a winner.
fair analysis. I think nick is just doing all he can to play the best as he can, but he also admits that his best isn’t possible simply because he really doesn’t enjoy the game right now. it’s a bit of a vicious cycle
I love your contents, but I also felt the tilt even through the screen, which was painful. I think taking down opponents in creative ways like Bena said in the last, would make poker much more fun.
Bena and I both have noticed that you're not acheiving your true potential Nicolas, and we're seriously consiering enrolling you in to a remedial extra curricular poker program to help get you back on the right path. We just want what's best for you, and while we know you have potential, we're wondering where the wide eyed curiosity from that precocious little child is that we love so dear
This is what poker will do to you, I see terrible plays everywhere and Easty can definitely do better, I think sometimes you gotta step out of the table, focus on other things, maybe do a 2 weeks break, and if you come back and you're not winning, study more, get curious just like Bena said, go watch gameplays, if you're playing on that kind of mood you're gonna be giving stacks away. Definitely many things to improve. Personally I play Poker part time, I make a side income from it, but whenever I'm not feeling it, I don't play it, I priorise quality sessions over quantity. Like some guy I don't remember said, you need to be enjoying it. Every spot matters, every pot matters, being creative and exploitative is a skillset you need to develop aswell. But when on a burnout like that, just uninstall and come back later.
I actually think the half-in-half-out approach is the worst way of doing +ev poker. On your downswings you either think about the job that you hate going to and it gaslights you into feeling worse, or you think about the job that you love going to and it makes you not want to play poker. Money will always equal x hours of work in the subconscious mind. I feel like you have to be at one with the variance or leave the variance at the doorstep. Full respect to Easty, love his content and think he's hilarious, but I think his relationship with the game right now is totally unsutainable. Been there many a time.
yeah this is completely bang on the money mate. this is also something I realised after the first half of this year where I was playing much lower volume. nowadays you gotta really be committing hard to study and play
