Some other raptors are also moving into cities. Cities are very dangerous environments (and more importantly: extremely different from the forest/steppe) but they also have plenty of free food (pigeons, mice; some cities have large numbers of even higher quality prey: ducks). Given more time and lack of human interference and they will evolve to survive in the cities. Evolution can be very quick when there is a large selective pressure (i.e. something that kills 99% of population)
@@strateeg32 what makes you think that? Only owls that had random mutations that made them able to survive and breed in the cities live long enough to grew up next generation of owls. They have slightly different genetic make up than their cousins who were burn in the forests and fields. This is exactly how evolution works.
The reason there's so many owls because the NNYC released s bunch of them to take care of the rat problem, but only created an owl problem.
They should call an Owl Exterminator.
