Ok Paul, you did ask for suggestions... I use mine to explore the South Downs. I tend to carry quite a lot of stuff on the front and back (photo &/or painting gear). Country lanes and tracks are my main routes. As Brompton are extending their range beyond their traditional city bikes, new riders will, I suspect, be thinking, how they might push their Bromptons beyond tarmac. Perhaps even bike packing. Keep up the good work promoting independent bike shops ...

Whoops I see there is/are some videos much earlier that cover some/all of this. Dunno how I missed them. Anyway, advice suggestions on off-road usage of a Brompton is always welcome. One issue I keep on getting is the mudguards getting chocked up, even when I've been pushing it through rougher parts - especially twiggy bits. So far my factory fitted Racer tyres have been fine (tempting fate) , but your thoughts on other tyre options welcome. The Brompton is so useful to be able to easily drive to the start of a ride, flick it open and pedal off. Yes, it may not be the best off-road option (marginally :-)) but it's surprisingly competent I'm finding. I get a fair few odd looks, but that's have the fun ...

Yes, the thing with health and age 😂
Ben has had hyaluronic acid injected into his knees because of his rheumatism and he has been much better since then.
We definitely don't want to give up cycling cause of health problems.
For us , it's either small wheels or gigantic wheels. Our Bromptons and fat bikes are actually the bikes with which we have the fewest physical problems. Except for ass pain after 100km 😝

    Hi Paul,
Glad to hear that you're on the mend. The trouble wit the imbalance / inflexibility is it's usually such a gradual thing that you don't notice until it's got quite bad, and then it's a longer journey back to fitness. I've been seeing a physio once a month or so for decades ( I used to run silly distances ) and he picks things up before they become a major issue. With regard to your upgrade, I'm " going large " and reckon you're going to spread the rear triangle and fit a 14 speed Rohloff 😁
Keep well, and keep the videos coming.

I've been doing a prepare well orthopaedic course over the last 6 weeks as I'm having 2 hip replacements. All the physios on the course mentioned that although cycling is a brilliant form of exercise it does course an imbalance in the legs. Frontal thighs and calves get trained but hamstrings and glutes not so much. They gave me brilliant yoga type stretches that have helped big time.
