I am semi retired. Retiring early is a myth. Retiring means doing something different to enjoy living. Kevin’s videos always put a smile on my face. Enjoyable and make me feel young and energetic😁
For you and the young audiences here, I thought this might be appropriate for a different perspective of the meaning of life through this Thai gentleman story of the four wives- ua-cam.com/video/2otQJoz0OEs/v-deo.html
How about we say retiring is a personal choice. I do not believe there is no true retiring. Remember, "affordability" depends on who defines it. This means you can say it is not possible if you think it is. Others can think the opposite. English is open to different interpretations
From my own experience I just want to share for ppl looking to YOLO and go the non traditional path. Find something u like to do AND start WITHOUT thinking of making money. Just for the passion. Eventually if u realise there’s a demand for it, that’s where u think about monetising. I went full time trading 4 years ago. Before that I was working about 14-15 years in finance industry. But trading is my interest and passion. When I started out, I didn’t think about how much money I want to make. It was just fun like how some ppl play games. Everyday after work, I will watch market till 1-2am and only slp 4-5 hours a day. Weekends were spent reading and learning. It was only after some time that I thought through how I want to monetise this interest.
I think the problem is when we find ourselves in the same job and in the same industry all our lives. Life is about taking risk (sensibly) and exploration.
Hey Kelvin - So outspoken and candid!! Love each and everyone of the videos. One thing my little one noticed: You are not showing a cute animal in return for liking it. He used to hit the "like button" for that gesture with his nose and he wanted me to pass on this message to you.
Great videos as always, I know it's a channel focused on finance, but I also really enjoy the other videos like this where we get to hear your thoughts and life experiences which are more personal. Also love the fun random shorts when you are out or with friends
Disraeli: "Youth's a folly, mid-age a crisis, and old age a regret." You have to create your own path, and it is easier if you have fewer financial commitments, more self-discipline, and a good social network that creates opportunities and shares good ideas.
i do not usually comment on your videos, as i do not find myself fitting into those contents. BUT, this is my first like for this video, very inspiring and very motivational. good job! Quitting a job is a very bold move and very hard decision, you did it~ continue to work hard and achieve what you planned for!! 👍
Very true, chase what you want but before that read up on how to get to your destination, like for example you want a million dollars, read personal finance book, you want to be a better spouse , read relationship books, you want to be a better person, read self help books, no need to traverse into the unknown when there are tons of articles and books out there to help you
Excellent video and great thinking, Kelvin‼️ You are definitely in the right direction. In many societies, people are not truly happy unless they become really successful. In Finland, they believe that they're not really successful unless they're truly happy. Finland is the happiest country in the world for five years in a row. In the case of Singapore, I believe that most of the population will continue with their 9 to 5 job until they reach the maximum re-employment age. Retirement expenses are very high. Taking care of the medical and daily needs of a large number of retirees is no joke. It is very taxing for the country if too many people are not working. Hence, the system is engineered in such a way to allow citizen to work till they are very old or near to end of life. By doing so, the retirement expenses will be kept to the minimal or even zero for those who passed away whilst they're still gainfully employed.
Well said! Very inspirational! 👍For you doing UA-cam, pls don't "overwork" yrself becos if not u will eventually burn out & hate doing it eventually...All of us really appreciate yr sharing & don't want to lose u 😓
I am 30 plus and is still having a job. However sometimes I still feel lost in life because I realised that the job I am working at is not really suitable for me.
Hi Kelvin, I believe we're of the same age. Currently, I'm employed in a corporate job that I enjoy, but I feel that it's not the ultimate path for me. I've always had a desire to create my own sources of passive income and start my own business, while also networking with exceptional individuals such as yourself. Although I've been meaning to start a UA-cam channel, I find myself constantly procrastinating. I'm glad to see that you have succeeded in your endeavors Glad to see you made it through🎉❤
I am near retired as well, at 41. Only doing some simple part time. Spent the last ten years to build an investment portfolio which brings me some passive income. I feel glad that I have done it, all sacrifaction is worthy. Same as you, I feel worry sometimes after quitting my job. I believe that's part of the process. Thanks for your sharing.
Thanks Kelvin, to me, this is one of the memorable YT vids I have watched from your channel. "What do you want to be when you grow up (job...)?" VS "What do you want in life?" Good question... I old man liao still dunno the answer, lol!
If you don't work for your own you work for someone else's dream. I am working on getting out of the 9-5 rut. Awesome, Kelvin, that you figured it out so early in life. You rock.
Sure...As long as you have no wife, no children, no commitments, forever single, or actually find someone who actually don't mind you don't have a stable job, which is like very rare, or you have rich parents who don't need you to earn a stable income to support them. So T&C applies to even be in your position in the first place to quit and do UA-cam videos. Feel the need to mention the caveats which you didn't mention but very relevant to this discussion nonetheless.
Bro !! I admire you a lot !!! I sometime feel the same as you said in other video, I like to educate ppl about Finance & they think, I am here to sell something :)
Imagine a 7 years old said “ I want 1 million dollar HDB” first he must understand the difference of HDB and condo and its appreciation rate. Second he must understand the current real estate market and projection of future market , not only just in real estate . Third he must understand the concept of 1 million. With 7 years old of math knowledge and primary school logic. This 7 years old is going places .
Someone once said, " If all you do this year is what you did last year, then the result this year will be same as last year".....Kevin is right, if you don't make sacrifices, sure cannot make it.
I retired early fifthies. I worked all my life. I know people who were as ambitious as some of you, started business after university, spent few hundred thousand studying only to go straight into business in the USA. After 25 years later, failed. No cpf and no savings, now only decide to go back to work. Yes,the world is cruel and very cold,no one gives you free money other than your parents.Life is never easy, everyone have their share of problems but life goes on. Do you prefer to work hard when you are in your twenties or wait till fifthies? I dont have many millions but at least some savings, cpf , and own a roof over my head with a family of 4 children.Time passed really fast. Decision on whether to work or have own business is never easy, everyone have to decide.Sometimes we ponder on "what if "we had done this or that, but i guess no one will really knows the outcome. I am happy that i worked really hard when i had full energy to do that when young, dont think i will have the energy and tenacity to do it now.
I rejoined corporate after selling my company to a listco. Too tiring 😅. Mnc job is high pay and easier till retirement when you were a biz owner before

Talk is easy! Kelvin can quit his job and become full time youtuber. That is not going to happen for many other people who have to pay their bills, loan repayment, mortgage, insurance, Conservancy charges, daily groceries expenses and many more!
I'm now 61. When I was young, the teacher asked me the same question. "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Me: I want to be a clerk... and I get a knock on my head for 没志气!LOL
This traditional thinking of study hard get good grades do not work in modern age as number of graduates from university is already 50 - 60% (including private, from overseas). Thx for this message

New inspirational topic 🎉😊
I have been watching your videos since 6 months ago. Well done Kelvin! Keep it up! Very inspiration!
Hard work does not equal success!
As Earl nightingale puts it law of averages favour the 2% risk takers.
Can share tips on how does low income people invest when they don’t have lot of salary to begin with?
I think there's really no choice, u either have to save more (which is impossible) or add more skillsets to improve your income
Start by educating yourself more, either read more books in sectors you are interested in
Power la!
Wish I have the courage like you.
Yeap, we should enjoy life la...
