    I’ve been dreaming about quitting (I almost did a year ago, actually told my boss and then I took it back lol) but my fear is that I don’t know what I’m going to do after the fact. People who know what they want to be in life are so fortunate. It’s so hard knowing that you’re not happy where you are and at the same time not knowing where you want to go. I feel so lost.

      @@MichaelOblitey that’s the thing. I don’t even know what I’m passionate about anymore (aside from taking care of my own kids, but it’s impossible for me to be a stay at home mom right now due to finances) and in between taking care of my family and working two jobs, it’s hard to spare some time to figure out what my passion is. But I’ll get there. Me working hard right now is a part of my exit plan. I’m straightening up my finances right now so that I can free up a lot of time in the future without any worries :)

    This is SO relatable. I have not stayed in many jobs long because ultimately despite the fear, self-doubt and uncertainty that comes with self-employment, I cannot stand to unhappily work for someone else or a company and am way more happy and wealthier when I work for myself and am actually happy doing what I do and don’t feel trapped. I was also lucky to work and save when I was young to afford myself flexibility and autonomy in my 30s. Fear of instability and uncertainty keeps people trapped in jobs they hate.

    If there was anything to take away from this, it was at the 8:39 mark. Make sure you are running towards something instead of running away from something. I think for a lot of people who dream of quitting the 9-5, those feelings probably stem from wanting to run away from the 9-5. But that hopefully shouldn't be a problem so long as it is recognized, and then you can start to think about what you want to start running towards. Awesome video again my man. Look forward to more from you. I bet many who are watching you now (just like myself) are teetering on that fence of should i do it lol.

      This really resonated with me as well!!! What an amazing concept and mindset to have. For example have a side hustle that you do on the side and then build it as it is what your running towards! my struggle is that I am the only one working and am a family of 6 (4 kids who are 10 and under, myself and my wife). We rely heavily on the Health Insurance as well, which is another downside to quitting for me. But most of it has been trying to believe in myself if I could really do it...15 years of corporate America is really hard to get away from once you are use to the paycheck to paycheck and then the thought of going into the uncertainty is very overwhelming.

    I am very interested in your perspective. Quitting my job is my ultimate goal, because it means I can support myself from my passion. My biggest worry of doing so is that my passion would then have added pressure to focus on income making it feel forced and feel like a job again. Also, the social stigma would be huge, I don't know how I would even go about telling my foreign parents lol.

    • @MichaelOblitey
      @MichaelOblitey 2 роки тому +17

      First of all I can relate to you about the foreign parents. My parents were born and raised in Accra, Ghana. Second it def is a huge leap to go after your passions and it being your source of income. My advice, and this is just advice lol, focus on providing value and service to your customer. I have come to realize that when you chase money it leaves, but if you chase providing service and value to others, then money will chase you! Hope that helps!

    • @VincentChan
      @VincentChan  2 роки тому +7

      That's true - there's always the worry of your passion turning into something that you no longer enjoy doing because you're being compensated for it. Hopefully we'll be able to find a balance with this. The situation with your parents is tough and I can 100% relate since my parents were born in China. Are you able to try to start your passion project and maybe make a decent amount of income first before you officially quit? That way you show your parents that it's a feasible path

    • @JacobKustra
      @JacobKustra 2 роки тому +3

      @@VincentChan that’s very true! It’s my plan to first show a “proof of concept” and hope that makes it easier for them to understand. But they are so traditional I don’t think they will like it because it’s not something they understand. But perhaps they will and I am worrying for nothing! Either way I have a while before I need to truly worry about that, but working at it one day at a time!

However, I did have money coming in from all those years of working. I felt free. Relief joyful and a since of accomplishment I arrived. I was of a course 57 years of age and time flew by so fast I just celebrated 7 years being retired. Now, it is like I have lot of time and I do not need to work; I am also introvert I always been that way. So, when I feel I need go see somebody I take a walk and there people all over the place so, going for a walk help out a lot with the feeling cut off from people and even watching you tube videos help me realize there many people at home watching a screen most likely by themselves but I realize I am not a lone there 7 billion people all over this earth. Hey, you are doing amazing work. I personally relate to a lot of things and experiences you shared coming from a similar place but its important to point out that you are doing amzing work really. Many youtubers are out there just to promote fake content and trick people into paid promotions just for money but you are doing impressive job with your humor, videos, energy, valuable content. Just don't overthink and stay positive. Things get really lonely on the entrepreneurial journeysometimes and fears are valid and for that we can all chat in our youtube community and uplift and support others who are making a positive impact on the world. Best of luck. :)

It was very difficultly at first to keep the focus on my purpose. I still work on it but definitely I am much happier! I could only have done it by saving early and living within my means. There's only one downside for me, and it's your #2 biggest regret. I used to make friends at work and meet wonderful people to date. Now I can't cause I'm sitting at home working for 9 hours a day. Plus I moved to a new city to be closer to family and cut my rent in half. Having a tough time finding new friends and dates!

    Most regrets of quitting are because it wasn't thought out to begin with. This is my weekly topic for my own subscribers. Career. One thing that can really bring a person into depression is 40 hours a week of hating their job. The job is literally almost half of the waking life. The problem many people have is that they have a craving for security. The person will tolerate being unhappy if that is their normality. People would rather have secure bitterness than the fear of stepping off the cliff. The fact is that you can change your career anytime. At 40 or 50. I once knew a car salesman of 30 years who did really well but started to hate his job--so became a nurse at 57. He is now a travel contractor. His friends told him he would be 57 by the time he got licensed as an RN. He told them he would be 57 anyway. So he will now spend the next ten years doing something he likes instead of something he hates. But you have to decide if it is life on the sea you hate or just that ship you're traveling on. In other words--do you hate your trade or just the company you're at? But whatever you aren't happy with you must change and continue to advance yourself. Hope this helps someone---Charles.

    I want to quit my job and told my colleague. I have so many things to do, my boss has been kind enough to help me, telling me to list down documents that are missing for every staff,reaching out to various parties to request them to return my email. Now I basically just cleaned up other people's mess with missing records, I think if the previous staff had maintained proper records,my job would have been easier. Lots of insight here. I put a longggg pause of entrepreneurship for alot of reasons you mentioned:
    - Isolation
    - Lack of security, regular pay schedule
    - Being obsessed with business success 24/7
    - Trading free time for hobbies or relaxing to work on the business
    Ultimately it was taking over my life.
    BUT I did learn a TON about business & digital marketing.
    So there are pros and cons.

    Hi Vincent, the struggle and anxiety is real! Every freelancer or company owner can relate to that. The experience you are taking from editing videos and being in front of a camera are very valuable and you can decide anytime to offer your services to a company, if needed. There will always be work for someone creative and dedicated as you! I suppose that is the only security we can draw from life - that we have the capacity to respond to whatever challenge we face in a creative and solution oriented manner. Good luck on your journey.
