There's something extremely satisfying with dealing with problems of masculinity, very aggressively.
haha! yeah, I feel it should be done in a Keith Harris and Orville kinda way ;)
Fight toxic masculinity with proper masculinity
need more cool people and bands talking and singing about this sort of thing man. so many men are trapped inside themselves.
Yeah if you're 14
@@johnr8820 yeah its the mask of masculinity! Its not real its an illusion!
I hope these dudes never runs out of things to scream at me.
If we continue to be shit humans, they won't run out of material.
I truly appreciate every time this man yells at me, " *LOVE YOURSELF!!!* "
It’s just the hipster version of bbc news
Imagine being stood there, a member of the Lumineers, watching this and then the camera swings to you and it’s your turn to sing that hey ho my sweetheart song.
holy shit I laughed so hard man, thanks for that
Sam Smith was on doing one of his bs ballads and it suddenly swung round to Slaves. So good.
As a fan of both bands this was hilarious
It's bad enough just being in the lumineers. God help them all.
@@jackholesun Fuck my friend dragged me to a Lumineers concert a few months ago. I was like how bad can it be? It was bad...
IDLES write songs that can change people's minds
Idles write songs that fit the narrative that BBC are pushing... Leftist/Socialist thought is good, multiculturalism is good. Globalism...you'll never hear these lads sing songs about being proudly White and English.
Fontaines DC. They're not that similar in sound, but have a similar punk attitude. And they're Irish
yeah, just like that @@alan6
they're oirish (although the guitarist looks Spanish) my gig buddy thinks they're an Irish version of Shame but I think they're darker @@jamieconway4692
They're not irish, the guitarist with the mustache is irish but the rest of the band are from bristol
Bowen's pain of having to wear trousers is translated beautifully into his guitar in this performance
It doesn't look right.
I get an indescribable rush of emotion in the "I kissed a boy and I liked it" breakdown. Joe screaming down the camera, Bowen and Lee going absolutely mental and Dev swinging his enormous head about the gaff. Brings a tear to my eye every time.
Same. First time I heard it, made me cry. They translate the frustration and then the joy of acceptance really well.
I d cry everytime I come back to this
It is beautiful
It's a joke he done, but I understand also done the same
Their drummer must be one of the best at the moment because every groove he does is catchy, captivating and creative
I agree , he's brilliant.
The most important band in the UK right now, utterly astonishing. Pure music.
In the world, in my opinion
Pure lukewarm shit for edgy students and young fathers. With beards.
Imagine thinking that a band that keeps repeating the opinions of Guardian writers and Blue Checkmarks is important lmao
well said!...
Vomiting the exact nonsense you hear on every tv.......astonishing
"I kissed a boy and I like it" has got to be the greatest fucking PUNK line ever written.
That "pipe down!" ( 3:29) send shivers down my spine.
he looks genuinely angry
Love how they mess with the tempo. Makes the vocals hit you harder.
this song is so good that it made my father cry
This band changed my life.
More done in three minutes about mental heath than the gov has done in thirty years, big up the idles
I heard this band for the first time last night. Today I introduced them to my 15 year old son, it had to be done.
Badass.
I dont correlate being angry with something to simply just being angry to be destructive. Anger can be righteous. And it can be a major catalyst for productivity, constructive change. Reminds me a bit of RATM, the concept of just a thresher of a band producing this amount of sound to state that things need to change. Aggression is needed, sometimes in desperate measure, to call attention to things that can and should change, especially things that are being affronted by popular culture, and especially when the meaning or the very existence of the thing/feeling is being threatened by ignorance or something far more toxic. It's perfectly agreeable to rage against toxic femininity and toxic masculinity.
...Anger can be power, do you know that you can use it?
@@alexd9999999 Of course. That's kinda what I wrote there. Righteous anger. It's a force for good, the betterment of the self. Anger can be constructive. Yessir.
Like Gojira. Check out Toxic Garbage Island.
As a woman, I can appreciate that it be acknowledged that there is toxicity in both traditional masculine & feminine tropes.
Glad to have bands like Idles bringing up the conversation.
I coruous. What is toxic feminity?
Love this band. A band closer to the original punk bands of the late 70s than any other band I can think of right now. Actually writing about real things and being properly provocative. They mean it.
They have an integrity and an honesty that I hope they never lose.
No punk band from the 70s or any other time can hold a candle
One of the most killer drum beats ever!! I also love how this version is slightly slower than the album version, suits the song much better 👌🏼🤘🏼
I don't think enough people realise how important this song is
It’s a pity Jools didn’t insist on playing some gratuitous boogie woogie all over this.
How has this comment gone un noticed?, lol
😂😂😂😂😭
Coop & Duck HHahahahah
Coop & Duck
😅😂🤣😅😂🤣😎
As long as he gets to introduce them whilst walking backwards, he'll consider it a win.
I think I'm in love with these guys.
This is such a beautiful song and performance. What a band.
Yes. I love that they chose this song to bring on to Jools Holland. It is so important. I love them so very much!!
Saw these guys live in new york couple months ago got a neato shirt got absolutely crushed from how packed the venue was kicked in the head from all the crowd surfing and was absolutely the best time. Love these guys.
best band I've seen for many years - 21st century punk for those who missed it all the first time around!
This band are a breathe of beautiful Bristol air. I live in Glasgow and I for one am crying out for more bands like IDLES
My dad recommended me to listen to them
Your* dad is a hero!
Same here actually
My daughter recommended them to me LOL (no joke)
Same here
did your dad cry?
the energy in this song flows through your body like crazy when you listen to this performance especially the last 2 minutes hit me hard
These guys are just a very special band, probably the best in the world.
Makes me cry . Yet again idles have made me weep
all the other band members look like they were bullied at some point in their lives and then Joe just looks like their aggressively protective and loving dad
I'm shaking , love this band. absolute beasts
si esta presentación no te eriza los pelos....estas muerto por dentro!!!!!!!!!! BANDA PERFECTA
Reminds me of At the Drive on jools years back!! great energy!
I love the honesty of the lyrics , the rawness of human emotions perfectly expressed in the most visceral way in the world wide communication.... Music❤
Honestly one of the best bands I've gotten into in a long while. If you think he is angry just screaming poorly, you dont get it.
Currently my new favorite. Creative. Explorative. Actually punk. Refreshing
and I love it that they got a mention on BBC Radio 4s 'Thought for the Day'
idles have got to be among one the most important bands since the invention of music!!!!
Utter gold performed at a level beyond the other side
This band is legendary
Next generation punk where they actually talk about the problems in the world like toxic masculinity. Men need to be able to be vulnerable and share their emotions. Too much bottling up emotions which leads to violence and suicide.
So true! "Man up, bottle it up!" That's the shit that'll always eventually end up in the news. If men aren't supposed to be "afraid of anything", why are they always so afraid of their own feelings?
Spoken like a true soyboy
gogolplex74 lol
Pablo Horteg toxic masculinity doesn’t exist. There’s masculinity then there’s shitty people.
gogolplex74 Says the guys afraid of a bean.
never seen so much raw charisma from a indie-punk bank. these guys are like pirates of the rock world.
This band has an awesome energy about them!
Joe is wearing a BAMBARA shirt! I love that band!
Punk is relative to the times. This band is as real as it gets , I KISSED A BOY AND I LIKE IT!!!!!!
I LOVE NOISE
I LOVE GRUNGY GUITARS
I LOVE AGGRESSIVE VOCALS
I IDOLISE THESE IDLES.
Music still exists. Awe inspiring.
Undeniable Masterpiece!
Amazing performance, amazing people, amazing lyrics, amazing album, amazing band
Best idles song
Great Band. Been following Bristol UK music for a while now. So much talent. Huge shout from the US.
Loving Idles and other Bristol acts like
Massive Attack, Portishead, Tricky, Roni Size, DJ Krust, AllFlaws
Like a musical rage room. I love IDLES. This was beautifully shot and edited. Joe really stretches out.
I watched idles at Glastonbury....and I liked it!
Absolutely insane. I gotta see em live.
Best performance on Later I've seen since Sleaford Mods. A great band.
That's exactly what I thought....
Not familiar with the Sleaford Mods. 🤔
Still the best Band . Peace and Noise..
I need, NEEEEEEEED TO SEE THEM LIVE
i did in kansas city few weeks ago ...and was blown away top notch live act
This is as good as anything that you could call punk rock gets. I'm a real boy, boy... and I'll cry!
I’d like to thank this video (and this band) for existing
Vuelvo a vivir con estas performance...directo al alma
siono
Big up Mclovin on drums
Never one of my fave Idles tracks until I heard this version. Just gob smackingly good!
After posting above I went to my Bataclan album and this version smashes it!
This is a band that has found a way to turn EVERYTHING up waaaaaaaay past 10!!!!!! They are the sonic ...& emotional...equivalent of a nuclear explosion. IF the NFL half-time show could ever evolve to accomodate an Idles performance...just imagine the world we would be living in! Unthinkable yeah...but just imagine! I see a band like the Idles...and I see hope.
THIS IS WHY, THIS IS WHY, THIS IS WHYYYYYYYYY!!!!
Incredible performance
Idles is the most important band of this era. Listen to them.
I adore everything about this
ah love the drummer!
moving ..uplifting...undoing...smooth...uplifting...and al swanko!...
Ever now and then an artist will come up with something new..IDLES are one of those times.
"I KISSED A BOY AND I LIKED IT!" .....take that katy p. :D
Le batteur est fou, le basiste est fou, les guitaristes sont fou , le chanteur est très fou et moi je suis complètement FOU de ce groupe. Merci
Best band ever. Come back to San fransisco!
And stay there.
Still fucking incredible
That was soooooooooooo good. IDLES are the best.
Just seen these guys at Bingley Weekender. Wow! No wonder theyre selling out everywhere, awesome energy and entertainment.
I really wish I had punk bands like this to listen to when I was a teenage boy
I've often heard of Idles but never actually heard them. This was fucking amazing
just great
G - R - E - A - T
"The mask of masculinity.
It's a mask that is wearing me" very profound!
another observations: Since folks are comparing this to the Lumineers,
Both bands represent very different ends of the music industry. The Lumineers’ aesthetic is that folksy come-together vibe and the peaceful small-town life where you can daydream and live happily with your neighbors, and a lot of people, deep down, really want that. They paint a fantasy.
IDLES is very fucking grounded. They pull no punches and if anything they’ll punch you harder for not listening.
Just got into the garden, then UA-cam recommended idles. Holy shite!
this gave me shivers
I love this band.
Класс, свежее дыхание в этом жанре. И так мало просмотров, жаль.
I've seen my father cry and it broke my heart. My dad is not wearing the mask of masculinity. He hates most men because of everything Joe sings about in this song. Just be nice to eachother and respect differences. Love!
Utterly outstanding! Love it!
Love this band a lot 😍
Best live band, ever.
Oh dear.! How many live rock shows you been to then since you're so decisive in your bold comment. ? Tell me your thoughts on for e.,g. What a Motorhead original line up gig from the No Sleep Till Hammersmith tour lacks compared to this ??😂😂😂😂
This goes so hard
This is the video that randomly came up during covid and I haven't looked back.
Goosebumps listening to this.
really like this Band 😎😎😎
The best hope of proper rock and punk in the 21st century
The tough guy is the drummer. He can churn out a spreadsheet faster than you can blink.
IDLES just getting better & better
Looked like CM Punk in the thumbnail loooool
I'ma real boy BOY and I CRY!!
I ******* love this
