Can’t believe I’m searching this in December 2024 lol… man… man oh man, 31 now, got a family and a great life but damn.. this was truly the best time of my life and it’s weird cuz I traveled the world already and I still go back to this, out of all the women I’ve met, all friend that came and left, all hearteaches and pains of life itself and even the amazing times I’ve had in life that lead me where I’m at now, thankfully. But, I still come to this video once a month, I have a drink, have my smokes and just reminisce to my favorite time of all.. the halo 3 days when I was an early teenager. It’s just so special to me nothing can replace this, nothing tbh, nothing lol.
I never had a crew to enjoy this with... but it still brings me to tears knowing my loneliness was left behind along with my treasured childhood memories...

Times were simpler back then. Did we ever stop to think and realise how good we had it? Now as I get nearer to 40 I admit that I took the good times for granted. If you’re reading this, I just wanted to say thank you for being a positive part of my life and making Halo 3 more than a game, but a life experience that I’ll treasure. My thanks even extends to Jerks I met in the lobby - you still made it what it was. I truly believe Halo 3 was one of the last bastions of happy gaming. I just remember going to my neighbors house every day to try and play halo 3, it didn’t always go that way but when it did, I remember having some of the funnest times of my life.

We didn't know it then, but we were experiencing the most wonderful thing, something so many people search for in their lives without ever experiencing. Then, we grew up. Here's to our selves, to those who ventured into the howling dark, and did not return. Time's changed... but we're all still spartans, and we will never die, even if some of us are missing in action... It will always be one of the greatest journey's of my life, and I am honoured to have shared it with you brothers. If anyone ever wants to run the campaigns, or play some custom games... Very true. We didn't know. Those of us who were lucky to experience Halo 2 and Halo 3 when they came out were just enjoying the ride. We thought it could only get better from here on out. How wrong we were on that. Halo 3 was the absolute peak of console multiplayer gaming, and the peak of xbox live. 2004-2011. Nothing will come close to those years. I am older, and have pretty much no time or interest in games nowadays. I still play Halo MCC occasionally to relive the glory days. But i will never forget and cherish those endless summer nights of halo 2 and halo 3, staying up til 4am playing. They were the best times.

My brother passed away in 2011 but we always played Halo 3 even when reach was out but man do I wish I could sit next to him one more time and play the Halo 3 campaign . I remember all the hours spent with him teaching me how to play the game. What buttons to press how to control where I look, to think it's been five years since I've played with him.

You played the game, and thats all that matters. if you enjoyed it, good. It doesnt matter WHEN you played it, it just matters that you played it. Also, the playerbase is still pretty huge so you will be able to find lobbies.
@@tastycookiechip campaigns are amazing. whenever i rate a halo game, i rate it on its campaign, not its multiplayer. the campaign really matters a lot. But i do truly enjoy the multiplayer in halo 3. i have many many days of playtime in it.

No microtransactions, no DRM, no season pass, just a great game Edit: People complaining that a season pass is better then halo 3 DLC model forget that this game launched in 2007 it had 10 dlc maps four of which being free by July 2008 other map packs being discounted this game was supported with dlc till January 2010 all this not including countless custom community forge maps and online event hosted by Bungie such as "Bungie vs the world" playlist. I have yet to see another game with this much dedication to the community non of these maps would have been free under the season pass model and also these maps were not made before launch of halo 3 and then held back so they could sell them to you later like most games nowadays.

I remember calling in my one sick day off school per year growing up so I could play Halo 3 the day it came out, and the next day literally everybody asked me how it was. I grew up on this entire series. I know there's Master Chief collection, but it's sad to know the old servers I grew up with are shut down. But you have to move forward. "It's been an honor, sir."

BlackMarsh There was plenty of greed with Halo 3. Remember how that if you didn't buy the map packs you were locked out of most of the playlists for multi-player. It's one of my favourite games of all time but we shouldn't forgot that it had flaws.
I hope it goes back to the old formula of doing things. Quality before quantity. I have hope about 2018. I havent bought a new game in ages. ive lived on playing the old halo series(bungie versions) and gta 5, and i recently began playing read dead redemption again on backwards capability on xbox one. Great games all of them. (though gta online is starting to feel stiff after 4000 hours played XD)
my uncle passed away 4 days ago; all he did was play Halo 3 on his Xbox 360. As a person with down syndrome he played the game so much and never got tired of it. when i was younger i’d sit next to him and watch him play it. oh the things i’d do to watch him play the game one last time again. i love you Eddie. the family misses you.
11 Years ago, 3 in the morning, walking back into my room with a soda and pizza rolls, hearing my lobby full of friends chatter and laugh through the headset before we launch some big team battle. I'm glad I got to experience it.
I’ll never forget it was 2009 Christmas my family was poor and my parents got divorced me and my brother got this game from our uncle for Christmas and hearing and seeing this menu helped with a lot of the pain we were going through. Halo 3 will always have a soft spot in my heart and I truly think no game will ever be as special to me and I feel like many others can say the same. I know the old days are what they are old days but when I see this menu and the music I feel safe and warm. Thank you Bungie and everyone that worked on this game you all helped two boys go through some really tough times.
There’s a glimmer of hope, with their recent announcement that they’ve severed ties with Activision. However, I doubt we’ll ever see another masterpiece from Bungie that was the Halo Franchise, prior to the 343 takeover of Halo 4 and onwards. One can hope, though..
Hunter Hagelin Very true. I remember back in 2007-2010 I used to play the shit of halo custom games with my xbox live friends. I still play with most of them today, especially halo 3 on the master chief collection. Fun times man.
Yeah it's exactly the same for me man. Plus that most of my friends that I played together with, have moved on to other things in their life. Understandable but still.. It hurts when you think about it. But at the least we will, both you and I and so many others, have those memories with us if not for the rest of our lives :)

I used to play this daily with a friend I lost to cancer a few years ago now. Most of my memories with him are on Halo 3 and I will cherish them forever. Right now I’m thinking back to big battles we had with our friends on sandtrap
If you have any really good old friends that you're in contact with go chill with them. Bring Halo. My best friend who I played thousands of hours of Halo with died a couple years ago and coming back here just kills. I would do literally anything to just play one more match with that guy.
Matthew Gray He was so good at Halo but couldn't afford XBL so I would always let him play mine. He got so good that even when we'd both play online he would get the main to level me up. I hope you have as many good memories as I do man.

But it was fun all the same. He ended up playing guitar hero on expert sometimes not looking at the tv. Haha. Lots of good times.

Today, on October 12, 2015, (It's past midnight right now on the 13th) my mother passed away. And the only thing I could think about was this song tonight, as I sit here, empty, and missing her. I'm 23 and listening to this brings back to the days of me staying up late as possible to play custom games with random ppl and having fun with them or waking up at 4 or 5am to play halo 3 Btb playlist, forge, or look at some cool maps that were on the bungie favorites file shares. Everyday after school as kid back than I always jump on halo 3 with some friends and just play customs or matchmaking and just laugh, talk, and have fun. Wish I can experience it again all over or go back to those days.
I just went on my old 360 account from 2005... and all my friends that I ever known... are either accounts were lost in the battlefield...or never logged in for 3+ years.. I cried on the floor when I found out. I tried playing halo 3 online.. but a lot of servers were dead and empty so here I am.. from 12 to almost a full grown adult going to college.. it’s hard.. and it’s always a surprise.. knowing that videogames... can give you so many memories.. :(

I wish I could go back in time and relive those nights when it was just me, xbox live, and halo. The nights during christmas break where you stayed up til 4 or 5 am playing online and woke up at like 2pm the next day. Play with the dog around the house, maybe go to the mall with some friends, and get a homecooked meal from mom at the end of the day. Then back to halo. Those were great times :')
My first all night game session was on Halo 3. If CoD 4 hadn't come out right after, I probably would've broken my disc because of the multiplayer though. Lol

Everytime man, everytime. That feeling of those hours of my life I will never ever get back. Those friends, enemies, laughs, anger, I would give everything to go back again. I mourn the shut down of the Halo 3 servers, I really do. I used to sit on this screen and listen to this music through my shitty TV, wishing I had something better. I didn't know that it was better, that it was the best. Truly the "prime" of video gaming, thanks for all the memories, and all I want for Christmas is my Xbox 360 back and the servers to be online again.

grew up playing Halo 3 and Reach now I work 8 hours, come home, stare at my game library for an hour, give up and watch some youtube and go to bed. sad times we live in, the golden era of gaming is truly dead.
I was 14 years old when Halo 3 was released, I'm now 28 and this still hits me in the feels. It's one of those soundtracks that makes you sit and think, then you get all emotional... and you wonder where time has gone. A masterpiece, without a doubt.
I'm 26 man and heah, this was my first halo Game. It has so many memories that hold dear to my heart. Knowing I will never experience this sort of happiness for the first time again saddens me. But it also puts a smile on my face knowing I had the privilege to enjoy Halo 3.
Just turned 28 myself. I remember going to gamestop to pick up halo 3 when it released and the employee ended up talking me into getting bioshock instead. At the time it was the better move because I didn’t get xbox live for another 8 months or so and to this day bioshock remains one of my favorite campaigns ever, but I still ended up getting halo 3 for christmas a few months later and then xbox live that next year. Halo 3 will forever have a special place in my heart and the memories will always give me so much nostalgia. Endless memories were made on this game.

It was September 25th 2007, I remember SPRINTING home from the bus cause I knew my dad was going to pick it up while I was at school. I ran upstairs to my parents room, where him and my mom were watching TV. I asked him "Did you get it?! Did you get it?!". He replied with a suspicious tone "no they were out of copies, I'm sorry". Me only being about 12 years old I thought he was serious, so I walked to my bedroom prepared to start balling my eyes out like a spoiled brat. But then when I walked in my room, there it was on my bed, still sealed in plastic. The Limited Edition version of Halo 3. The rest is history. Man I miss all the memories. Hope all my fellow OG Halo 3 players are doing well.

More effort was being put into main menus and the scenery and the music behind it than entire games nowadays. Seems all the nerd developer’s who truly loved and put love into their craft have been all but pushed out, out sourced, treated as indispensable by the industry and threatened their very passion with creative differences and profit over creativity. Or I just got older and video games aren’t as romanticized as a child’s mind would. Could be either or tbh, or both.
It was the greatest time that I think we'll ever seen in video games. Mainstream enough to have huge budgets, but still small enough that it was still developed by people who truly cared, rather than some corporate panel squeezing out every last dime. Never shall we see it's like again

@@dc2391xbx you. Damn good times. No job no bills etc. No girl problems. Just halo and playing outside. I used to not pursue girls and sex when I was playing video games. Now I strive for a better career, excercise and work on my confidence. These are all good things but life can be difficult when you fail to meet these goals or if you seem to not be making progress. I dont know I enjoy lifes challenges but I dont enjoy not making progress. So the point is as a young kid you dont have to worry about these things. Such a great time. My parents were divorced and this game helped tremendously with relaxing and ignoring the issue.
There has never been another multiplayer game of this magnitude. 2007 was one of the greatest years to be alive. Kids will never understand the sheer depth of what hearing this does to a man’s soul.

One day, we played this game for the last time. We hung out with friends we never knew we wouldn't see again. We laughed, we joked and we promised to be online again, same time tomorrow. There were no goodbyes, no heartfelt farewells. Just a "See you tomorrow" that never came. This one is for you. For all the friends we made along the way. For all the people we remember but may never get to tell just how much they meant to us. I hope you're still out there.
2020 has hit its may covid is still at large and this takes me back to 2011 when my brother had a xbox 360 and played this together till we got our own gaming consoles and we stop playing splitscreen i miss those days
Tonight, the Halo servers for the 360 will shut down. Halo 3, ODST and Reach carried me through a lot. Bad school memories. Heartbreak. Being ostracized by people who I thought were my friends. Life got hard but these games and communities kept me going and reminded me that good people are out there. We played games, had experiences and built bonds all through this amazing shared experience. We’ll never forget the good times we had. We’ll never forget those hallowed days. Couldn’t if we tried. I recently installed this to my Xbox one when I heard it was backwards compatible. I looked through my 360 friends list and almost cried looking at all the names that were offline who I used to always play with. I miss those days. I wish I could relive it, this comment really messed me up.
My brother is 5 years older than me (21) and I'm currently 16. So back in the day I would always play the things that he got for our Xbox 360, which my dad got us. We didn't have Xbox Live Gold back then so all we could do was play offline games. My first game was Left 4 Dead, my few friends and I would play that all the time after playing outside for hours at my dad's small, kinda shabby appartment (but perfect for gaming) since my parents seperated when I was about 3 but in a harmonic way, they didn't hate each other or something like that. At that time my dad still lived in the same town as my mom, my brother and I. Then one day my dad bought this new game, Halo 3 and my brother and I would play through the campaign every weekend we went to my dad from morning to evening, do the achievements and things like that. My now still best friend would also often play it together with us and we still start singing the Halo Theme Song when something epic happens randomly today cause it's like a thing between us. It was honestly the best time of my life. Ever since those good old Halo times I've never enjoyed gaming the same way I used to even tho I'm much better now and have an expensive PC with an expensive setup. More money doesn't necessarily make you more happy, back then my family was a lot more poor and I had way more joy in my life since depression started creeping in for about 2 years at the start of puberty and I kinda started questioning life a lot, the background of all of our actions and goals, that it all just leads to death in the end. A few months ago, at the end of last year my brother came into my room while I was playing Destiny 2 on my PC and told me that our dad is in the hospital because of the aftermath of a *light heart attack* is what he said, so I didn't think that much of it but was obviously a little worried. I messaged him on WhatsApp but little did I know that I would never get a reply again. The following week on Wednesday we visited him and stayed there for about 2 hours. He was just explaining everything and it actually turned out that he's had 3 unnoticed heart attacks, he had some sort of thing called a stent implanted into 2 of his 3 veins which were damaged (the 3rd one was too damaged so they couldn't implant a stent anymore since the risk of it leading to his death was too high) and he also said that if he got another heart attack it's over, he also sounded really cold and depressed throughout the whole time he was talking and I'm still not sure if he knew/suspected something already that we did not. After a while he decided that he wanted to go to the Cafeteria of the hospital, which was a really long walk through a huge hallway and he had trouble walking properly (which I still don't know might've been one of the reasons). When we arrived in it he wanted to pay for ice cream for us really bad for some reason and I had to hold back my tears when I saw him jittering with his hand because he couldn't even hold the spoon for the ice cream properly. We then went back to his room where 3 other people were, 1 of them being a very old man that was just kept alive by machines which also really got to him because he was a very very social person, even if he had slight anger issues sometimes due to his high intelligence. He told us that he was leaving the hospital the following day already because he can't sleep in his room with all the other people and he also mentioned that he helped a nurse that got unconcious, which I found pretty incredible considering the fact that he was so weak, kinda just made me realise how kind hearted he actually was. We then said goodbye to him, but not an actual one, just like a *later* type goodbye since his birthday was 3 days later and nobody, not a single person expected what would happen the following day. 2 days later, it was just a normal school day like always. I got up in the morning and got ready for school. I was brushing my teeth when I suddenly heard the phone ringing in our living room where my mom was, which was extremely unusual and I couldn't even make out the voice because of how far away it was and how weird it sounded, I didn't realise that it was my grandma that was calling us while crying. After she hung up I heard my mother walking towards the bathroom and I already had a really bad feeling for some reason. She then opened the door and said to me *he's dead* and I was like *what do you mean?* because I wasn't sure wether it was my grandpa or my dad, she then told me it was my dad and I just froze for a few seconds, bursted out crying and then went into my room, sat down on my bed and just froze there crying, emotionless. We then drove to my grandma's place where she found the corpse of my dad in the guest room in the morning since my grandma used to be a nurse and the hospital was close to her appartment. I've never seen my brother cry before and he was crying for hours straight, just like my grandma and I, even my mother started crying for a short time despite the fact they've been seperated for over 12 years. That day I looked in the mirror several times and was curious wether I was still able to smile. When I tried to smile I just saw an emotionless expression on my face with my lips trying to form a smile but the rest of my face just staying unchanged. Everytime I hear the Halo Theme Song it makes me even more emotional than it used to because it always reminds me of how we used to play it at my dad's place and it just reminds me of him, the old times where I still had joy in life and everything else... I'm not an emotional person like everyone else, I've always had a very different view of the world than most people, I viewed thinks more objectively, questioned everything. After his death I do that even more, he was pretty much the only person who really knew me and understood me because he had the exact same interests and character traits, I try not to think of him much anymore and accepted his death within the first week but I still cry myself to sleep once in a while when I just can't surpress it anymore. I don't know if anyone will ever read this, or even finish this but if you do, thanks for taking the time and reading this, I appreciate you a lot. I typed this text in tears and I'm thankful for you taking the time to read this shit. And sorry if the text was faulty, I'm german and only 16 as I said in the start so my English might not be perfect.

I know I can’t do much especially knowing that this is of course the internet, but I just am for a loss of words, completely frozen. I hope things look up from here for you, and the best of luck for your future. 💙 All I can say is that I just wish I shared that sort of connection with my dad, my biological dad left me when I was 7 years old and practically abandoned my mother, me and my sister. Even to this day, my step father that I’ve known for several years I still cannot really share that same bond, it just doesn’t feel the same. He even used to buy me little halo LEGO figures, because of how I’ve always been obsessed with halo, and after I found out that he passed away a few days ago (my biological father) I’m just completely lost for words.

My brothers and their families all have game night once a year when we can. 3 big tv's, a projector, original 360's that haven't rrod'd yet, and wireless adapters work great on ad-hoc system link. Custom games all night, even my niece and nephew who are in kindergarten and 2nd grade can get kills on us now. Granted its rockets only most of the time so everyone has fun, but regardless, this game isnt dead in my house. I'm aware of MCC, but only one person has an Xbone, and isnt worth the investment. Fat kid and duck hunt are local favorites. A coworker said that MCC's glitches are ironed out now, so I might give it a go here soon. I'm glad die hard fans are keeping it alive. I tried Eldorado, but it just isnt the same, even with all the mods. When I did play it, the few servers that were populated werent what I enjoyed. I'm glad I got to experience Halo growing up, as most kids now will remember Fortnite, and I dont know if they will look back on it as adults, and feel what I feel. These were the only games that I tried to get all achievements. I worked my way up to Hayabusa/Katana, but couldn't get enough friends to get Recon. That level of dedication just isnt around in games anymore. Just who has the better emote and/or spray. Grinds my gears.

Very true. We didn't know. Those of us who were lucky to experience Halo 2 and Halo 3 when they came out were just enjoying the ride. We thought it could only get better from here on out. How wrong we were on that. Halo 3 was the absolute peak of console multiplayer gaming, and the peak of xbox live. 2004-2011. Nothing will come close to those years. I am older, and have pretty much no time or interest in games nowadays. I still play Halo MCC occasionally to relive the glory days. But i will never forget and cherish those endless summer nights of halo 2 and halo 3, staying up til 4am playing. They were the best times.

You played the game, and thats all that matters. if you enjoyed it, good. It doesnt matter WHEN you played it, it just matters that you played it. Also, the playerbase is still pretty huge so you will be able to find lobbies.

Edit: People complaining that a season pass is better then halo 3 DLC model forget that this game launched in 2007 it had 10 dlc maps four of which being free by July 2008 other map packs being discounted this game was supported with dlc till January 2010 all this not including countless custom community forge maps and online event hosted by Bungie such as "Bungie vs the world" playlist. I have yet to see another game with this much dedication to the community non of these maps would have been free under the season pass model and also these maps were not made before launch of halo 3 and then held back so they could sell them to you later like most games nowadays.

I remember calling in my one sick day off school per year growing up so I could play Halo 3 the day it came out, and the next day literally everybody asked me how it was. I grew up on this entire series. I know there's Master Chief collection, but it's sad to know the old servers I grew up with are shut down. But you have to move forward.

I’ll never forget it was 2009 Christmas my family was poor and my parents got divorced me and my brother got this game from our uncle for Christmas and hearing and seeing this menu helped with a lot of the pain we were going through. Halo 3 will always have a soft spot in my heart and I truly think no game will ever be as special to me and I feel like many others can say the same. I know the old days are what they are old days but when I see this menu and the music I feel safe and warm. Thank you Bungie and everyone that worked on this game you all helped two boys go through some really tough times.

Forever in our hearts, this game was an experience only the few of us had but it bonded us together forever.
I'm 23 and listening to this brings back to the days of me staying up late as possible to play custom games with random ppl and having fun with them or waking up at 4 or 5am to play halo 3 Btb playlist, forge, or look at some cool maps that were on the bungie favorites file shares. Everyday after school as kid back than I always jump on halo 3 with some friends and just play customs or matchmaking and just laugh, talk, and have fun. Wish I can experience it again all over or go back to those days.

I just went on my old 360 account from 2005... and all my friends that I ever known... are either accounts were lost in the battlefield...or never logged in for 3+ years.. I cried on the floor when I found out. I tried playing halo 3 online.. but a lot of servers were dead and empty so here I am.. from 12 to almost a full grown adult going to college.. it’s hard.. and it’s always a surprise.. knowing that videogames... can give you so many memories.. :(

I wish I could go back in time and relive those nights when it was just me, xbox live, and halo. The nights during christmas break where you stayed up til 4 or 5 am playing online and woke up at like 2pm the next day. Play with the dog around the house, maybe go to the mall with some friends, and get a homecooked meal from mom at the end of the day. Then back to halo. Those were great times :')
My first all night game session was on Halo 3. If CoD 4 hadn't come out right after, I probably would've broken my disc because of the multiplayer though. Lol

Everytime man, everytime. That feeling of those hours of my life I will never ever get back. Those friends, enemies, laughs, anger, I would give everything to go back again. I mourn the shut down of the Halo 3 servers, I really do. I used to sit on this screen and listen to this music through my shitty TV, wishing I had something better. I didn't know that it was better, that it was the best. Truly the "prime" of video gaming, thanks for all the memories, and all I want for Christmas is my Xbox 360 back and the servers to be online again.

Just turned 28 myself. I remember going to gamestop to pick up halo 3 when it released and the employee ended up talking me into getting bioshock instead. At the time it was the better move because I didn’t get xbox live for another 8 months or so and to this day bioshock remains one of my favorite campaigns ever, but I still ended up getting halo 3 for christmas a few months later and then xbox live that next year. Halo 3 will forever have a special place in my heart and the memories will always give me so much nostalgia. Endless memories were made on this game.
I’m 27 going on 28 now myself and was 13 when this came out. Been playing since Halo 1 in 2001 and still a Halo fan playing Infinite now 😢.

It was September 25th 2007, I remember SPRINTING home from the bus cause I knew my dad was going to pick it up while I was at school. I ran upstairs to my parents room, where him and my mom were watching TV. I asked him "Did you get it?! Did you get it?!". He replied with a suspicious tone "no they were out of copies, I'm sorry". Me only being about 12 years old I thought he was serious, so I walked to my bedroom prepared to start balling my eyes out like a spoiled brat. But then when I walked in my room, there it was on my bed, still sealed in plastic. The Limited Edition version of Halo 3. The rest is history.
Man I miss all the memories. Hope all my fellow OG Halo 3 players are doing well.

More effort was being put into main menus and the scenery and the music behind it than entire games nowadays. Seems all the nerd developer’s who truly loved and put love into their craft have been all but pushed out, out sourced, treated as indispensable by the industry and threatened their very passion with creative differences and profit over creativity. Or I just got older and video games aren’t as romanticized as a child’s mind would. Could be either or tbh, or both.
It was the greatest time that I think we'll ever seen in video games. Mainstream enough to have huge budgets, but still small enough that it was still developed by people who truly cared, rather than some corporate panel squeezing out every last dime.

Now I strive for a better career, excercise and work on my confidence. These are all good things but life can be difficult when you fail to meet these goals or if you seem to not be making progress.
I dont know I enjoy lifes challenges but I dont enjoy not making progress.
So the point is as a young kid you dont have to worry about these things. Such a great time. My parents were divorced and this game helped tremendously with relaxing and ignoring the issue.

Halo 3, ODST and Reach carried me through a lot. Bad school memories. Heartbreak. Being ostracized by people who I thought were my friends. Life got hard but these games and communities kept me going and reminded me that good people are out there.

I recently installed this to my Xbox one when I heard it was backwards compatible. I looked through my 360 friends list and almost cried looking at all the names that were offline who I used to always play with. I miss those days. I wish I could relive it, this comment really messed me up.
My brother is 5 years older than me (21) and I'm currently 16. So back in the day I would always play the things that he got for our Xbox 360, which my dad got us.
We didn't have Xbox Live Gold back then so all we could do was play offline games. My first game was Left 4 Dead, my few friends and I would play that all the time after playing outside for hours at my dad's small, kinda shabby appartment (but perfect for gaming) since my parents seperated when I was about 3 but in a harmonic way, they didn't hate each other or something like that.
At that time my dad still lived in the same town as my mom, my brother and I. Then one day my dad bought this new game, Halo 3 and my brother and I would play through the campaign every weekend we went to my dad from morning to evening, do the achievements and things like that. My now still best friend would also often play it together with us and we still start singing the Halo Theme Song when something epic happens randomly today cause it's like a thing between us.
It was honestly the best time of my life. Ever since those good old Halo times I've never enjoyed gaming the same way I used to even tho I'm much better now and have an expensive PC with an expensive setup. More money doesn't necessarily make you more happy, back then my family was a lot more poor and I had way more joy in my life since depression started creeping in for about 2 years at the start of puberty and I kinda started questioning life a lot, the background of all of our actions and goals, that it all just leads to death in the end.
A few months ago, at the end of last year my brother came into my room while I was playing Destiny 2 on my PC and told me that our dad is in the hospital because of the aftermath of a *light heart attack* is what he said, so I didn't think that much of it but was obviously a little worried. I messaged him on WhatsApp but little did I know that I would never get a reply again. The following week on Wednesday we visited him and stayed there for about 2 hours. He was just explaining everything and it actually turned out that he's had 3 unnoticed heart attacks, he had some sort of thing called a stent implanted into 2 of his 3 veins which were damaged (the 3rd one was too damaged so they couldn't implant a stent anymore since the risk of it leading to his death was too high) and he also said that if he got another heart attack it's over, he also sounded really cold and depressed throughout the whole time he was talking and I'm still not sure if he knew/suspected something already that we did not.
After a while he decided that he wanted to go to the Cafeteria of the hospital, which was a really long walk through a huge hallway and he had trouble walking properly (which I still don't know might've been one of the reasons). When we arrived in it he wanted to pay for ice cream for us really bad for some reason and I had to hold back my tears when I saw him jittering with his hand because he couldn't even hold the spoon for the ice cream properly. We then went back to his room where 3 other people were, 1 of them being a very old man that was just kept alive by machines which also really got to him because he was a very very social person, even if he had slight anger issues sometimes due to his high intelligence.
He told us that he was leaving the hospital the following day already because he can't sleep in his room with all the other people and he also mentioned that he helped a nurse that got unconcious, which I found pretty incredible considering the fact that he was so weak, kinda just made me realise how kind hearted he actually was.
We then said goodbye to him, but not an actual one, just like a *later* type goodbye since his birthday was 3 days later and nobody, not a single person expected what would happen the following day.
2 days later, it was just a normal school day like always. I got up in the morning and got ready for school. I was brushing my teeth when I suddenly heard the phone ringing in our living room where my mom was, which was extremely unusual and I couldn't even make out the voice because of how far away it was and how weird it sounded, I didn't realise that it was my grandma that was calling us while crying. After she hung up I heard my mother walking towards the bathroom and I already had a really bad feeling for some reason. She then opened the door and said to me *he's dead* and I was like *what do you mean?* because I wasn't sure wether it was my grandpa or my dad, she then told me it was my dad and I just froze for a few seconds, bursted out crying and then went into my room, sat down on my bed and just froze there crying, emotionless.
We then drove to my grandma's place where she found the corpse of my dad in the guest room in the morning since my grandma used to be a nurse and the hospital was close to her appartment. I've never seen my brother cry before and he was crying for hours straight, just like my grandma and I, even my mother started crying for a short time despite the fact they've been seperated for over 12 years. That day I looked in the mirror several times and was curious wether I was still able to smile. When I tried to smile I just saw an emotionless expression on my face with my lips trying to form a smile but the rest of my face just staying unchanged.
Everytime I hear the Halo Theme Song it makes me even more emotional than it used to because it always reminds me of how we used to play it at my dad's place and it just reminds me of him, the old times where I still had joy in life and everything else...
I'm not an emotional person like everyone else, I've always had a very different view of the world than most people, I viewed thinks more objectively, questioned everything. After his death I do that even more, he was pretty much the only person who really knew me and understood me because he had the exact same interests and character traits, I try not to think of him much anymore and accepted his death within the first week but I still cry myself to sleep once in a while when I just can't surpress it anymore.
I don't know if anyone will ever read this, or even finish this but if you do, thanks for taking the time and reading this, I appreciate you a lot. I typed this text in tears and I'm thankful for you taking the time to read this shit. And sorry if the text was faulty, I'm german and only 16 as I said in the start so my English might not be perfect.
CyberLost I’m extremely sorry for your loss, like.. extremely.. I can understand what you’re going through, and I wish the best for you. I know I can’t do much especially knowing that this is of course the internet, but I just am for a loss of words, completely frozen. I hope things look up from here for you, and the best of luck for your future. 💙 All I can say is that I just wish I shared that sort of connection with my dad, my biological dad left me when I was 7 years old and practically abandoned my mother, me and my sister. Even to this day, my step father that I’ve known for several years I still cannot really share that same bond, it just doesn’t feel the same. He even used to buy me little halo LEGO figures, because of how I’ve always been obsessed with halo, and after I found out that he passed away a few days ago (my biological father) I’m just completely lost for words.

God i loved team swat.... it was the only game mode I played eventually. I miss carrying around an old crt tv...

Judging by the comment section, many of us would. Good times. Gone but never forgotten.
My brothers and their families all have game night once a year when we can. 3 big tv's, a projector, original 360's that haven't rrod'd yet, and wireless adapters work great on ad-hoc system link. Custom games all night, even my niece and nephew who are in kindergarten and 2nd grade can get kills on us now. Granted its rockets only most of the time so everyone has fun, but regardless, this game isnt dead in my house. I'm aware of MCC, but only one person has an Xbone, and isnt worth the investment. Fat kid and duck hunt are local favorites. A coworker said that MCC's glitches are ironed out now, so I might give it a go here soon. I'm glad die hard fans are keeping it alive. I tried Eldorado, but it just isnt the same, even with all the mods. When I did play it, the few servers that were populated werent what I enjoyed. I'm glad I got to experience Halo growing up, as most kids now will remember Fortnite, and I dont know if they will look back on it as adults, and feel what I feel. These were the only games that I tried to get all achievements. I worked my way up to Hayabusa/Katana, but couldn't get enough friends to get Recon. That level of dedication just isnt around in games anymore. Just who has the better emote and/or spray. Grinds my gears.
