love the realness of this episode! things don't go smoothly, calls drop out, questions aren't clear or they're slow, but you keep it moving and never seem to let it affect the way you handle the next call - still a big smile and intro for the caller. think this is a great example of doing real life with real things in real situations. this is the 'dirt' and we should get comfortable with what this looks like and putting in work 'here'. thanks Gary.

love the live call in shows. it teaches us to be ahead of the curve and not be complacent. you are teaching us that you are a practitioner and how you adjust to the learning curve. also teaching how you lovingly challenge your team to be on their A game. Andy is crushing it. with all the pressure of live, he keeps upping his game! win win win

It' s absolutely refreshing to see a high profile entrepreneur like you admit such a huge thing about not celebrating stuff but thinking it should be done. Most people today are promoting 'how to be an influencer by being fake', hide your shortcomings so people think you're the most successful and perfect person on the planet and only then they buy from you.
    What you did was-
a- Admit on a hugely public platform that you don't have a celebration habit.
b- Having enough humility to say that although you don't do it, it should be done.
c- Encouraged your viewers to be honest about the #hustle but also the #imperfections that come along with 24/7 work.
It's about being kind of 'in the zone' when you are at the peak of your mission and you need to absolutely avoid all social occassions, its hard, its isolating but when your mission is your love and a piece of your heart, you do whatever it takes.
Its hard to justify the hustle and the madness to those sipping margarita every Friday night. But there comes a point when you no longer care. :)
I' m so glad you talked about it THIS way. It made total sense.
    Awesome show, as usual.

Hi Gary, maybe I am alone a bit on this but I actually prefer the comments and video questions rather than the call in. Only because with the call in's you never know what kind of quality you are going to get both in the voice and content of the question.

Hi Gary! I really liked the idea of calling in because it allows your followers the opportunity to connect with you and personally ask a question. But at the same time I also really liked how you responded to tweets previously because it gave the opportunity for those who can't get a call in to still get their questions answered. How about having two sections to the episode, one where you answer questions on the call and the other half you answer tweets. And of course as always thank you for always inspiring us!

Gary thanks so much! I have been a fan for a long time, but lately I've put even more emphasis, than normal on following you, because I am treating my company like a brand new startup. I am actually writing a business plan, just to put some real structure on where I am going from here.
Here's a question - why blog on Medium vs my own blog? I am often hesitant to blog on other platforms, because I want the content all for myself on my own website. Of course I understand the exposure that a blog like medium will offer, but is that the ONLY reason for doing it?

I love the call in version of the show! There are so many comments regarding the new version and the questions being repeated.
A way around this would be to have topics for each call in show that the caller would have to fit their questions too. Therefore you can make sure topics that have not been covered frequently can be filmed and questions answered. Just my 2 cents!

Long time listener/viewer, first time poster (yeah, I know, I KNOW!)... take a page from Dan Savage's playbook -- accept questions per usual (including hand picking the questions you want to answer, and have them leave a number that you can call them back, or even have aSkype video call. India can have callers ready to go when the show starts. It'll still be live, but much more efficient.

1 Question though. I am building my site/Yt channel ("myname"). My plan is to get touch with other guys/agencies in my country (6mil people in my whole country only, so i want to establish myself as go to guy).
My SKILLS: getting traffic, get people to pay attention, converting, sales, seo (local biz, rank & rent)...
Need guys specify in: good developer, google adwords, fb ads, accountant, video shooter/editor.
My executing plan will be: 1. Brand myself by giving value (i know i can overdeliver in that segment and get attention also from not IT crowd)
    2. Getting clients (i have clients, but they are in US, but i want to set myself in my own country)
    3. Get in touch with other guys to build an agency specify in online marketing (in my country there is lot opportunity here).

You reckon facebook live is the new black?? Why not UA-cam live Gary? or why Live? Why is live streaming more valuable from a social networking perspective in comparison to good edited content?

    • @Mechanic618
      @Mechanic618 8 років тому +7

+Jake Rich Gary talks about how Time is the most valuable commodity for people, and by far UA-cam videos are the most user-friendly way to consume video content. Not live streams (which require watching it on the broadcaster's schedule rather than the viewer's schedule), not Snapchat/Vine/Instagram where content is superficial and can't be easily saved for future reference, and not Facebook or Twitter where it just gets buried in an unfriendly feed full of noise. With UA-cam, I control what content hits my Subscriptions feed by only subscribing to people that I feel are worth my time and then I choose which videos I want to watch now, which I want to be reminded to Watch Later, and which I'll just ignore. I am in control and the interface, while not perfect, is much more user friendly for video consumption than any other social platform.
There's some consumer data for you, Gary.

Gary! I totally agree on the live "unpolished" aspect of production you spoke of. It's great to get the real perspective. What I would do on a live show would be to pose a specific type of question that you're looking to field. I know this may not be easy but putting out there like "today we're talking about leveraging early stage startup work and waiting till you really NEED funding. OR. Call in now and ask your VC or Angel questions!... etc etc etc..." Cheers!

  • @SterlingSanders
    @SterlingSanders 8 років тому

+Gary Vaynerchuk 1. I think you should continue to do call-in/live shows as an additional format option for the show. Sure, the pace of the show is different but your energy and the versatility of your answers remains valid and valuable. Working out the kinks for a smooth process takes time and effort, and it's shortsighted to kill the idea before you've really given it a chance to succeed -- adding a live component to some of the shows is a great idea. I liked it.
    2. Having watched the greater majority of your content, I think your answers here were anything but repetitive with previous content. And if the point of this show is the help people with specificity, a direct one-to-one response to business asks is the greatest way to have that impact. It's a worldwide qna, which is a great idea for those that haven't had a chance to see you on stage.
    3. It's so easy to see how so many of your suggestions can scale across different businesses and in different industry's. As Tim Ferriss says, all of your content doesn't have to be for everyone, in fact it shouldn't be, you make different content for different sets and groups of people.
    4. This show is a master's class in business problem solving, I continue to marvel at the ease with which you pivot concepts, ideas, executions, mindsets and industries. It inspires me to approach each new obstacle, with a new look and perspective, as an opportunity for success. It pushes me to consider alternate ways to solve the problems my company and our clients face. Thank you.

Thank you for bringing energy and newness #QOTD I think that there were some great adjustments from episode 200, so congrats. I love the fearlessness of trying new things even if they are not perfect at first, in episode 200, your stress level was quite notorious because you wanted to bring quality and value to us. I think that is so amazing and inspirational. I believe that the people that don't understand what it is like to innovate and put yourself out there are the ones that post negative comments.
For the future, I really love the mix, the craziness and unpredictability. I think we should provide you with a platform to test out new ideas, instead of testing them out on paying clients. These tests are giving (at least me ;) ) great value just are your keynotes, awesome responses, the dailyvee, how you interact with others, your energy. It's all together an amazing nation led by you. Thanks again. :)

The call-in idea seems nice for maybe one out of every five shows. I like the improvisational aspects of it, but I also like how the online format allows for curating questions that go well together.
Also, building some sort of custom system for this might get rid of the glitches. Maybe ask your developers to take a look at Twilio call queues?

You are absolutely my fav person in the wine biz and we've never met. I've had 6 bartenders at my house at a time watching your vids like some kind of drunken viewing party. So tonight, after watching 5 or 6 hours of videos on how to better market my DJ brand... look who I come across. I'm only 42 seconds in and I'm already disappointied that at no time am I gonna see the NY Jets spit bucket. Ok, Imma watch this vid now. By the way, if there is something you don't know how to do - and at a champion level - please leave a comment below in teh reply box. Lol.

Also, where do you record from? I need to come by with a bottle of something red and we can complain about the state of music commerce.

The issue here really is flow. I like the concept but I think you could arrange callers before the show starts. Create a short list group that you give the number to. This will resolve the overload of calls and lack of flow. Gary doesn't need to know who they are or what their question is going to be, which means the "live" or "spontaneous" aspect (the best part) can still be maintained.

Like the call in show, Gary. I can understand that if you don't screen calls that you will probably get some of the same questions asked over again. But then again, someone may need to hear an answer for the second or third time to get value out of it. Repetition is the mother of skill.

Seemed like a big improvement on the last call in show! A lot less back and forth. The show flowed a lot better. Nice work.

Gary, I like your sweater - where did you get it? Also QOTD: Call in is good cuz they can follow up and that gives you a chance to go in even further/more specific w your answers - but all in all I say mix it up cuz it doesn't matter. Respect brother!

Just subscribed today. I've been reading the #askgaryvee book and loving it. Love the authenticity; I hadn't wondered about what shoes you're wearing, but now I'm gonna need updates all the time. Great advice about live streaming being unpolished. Looking forward to incorporating that into the content I'm creating for my business. Thanks Gary.

I'm sorry I'm so behind. Life has been crazy the last 6 weeks (my husband of 23 years passed away). I love the show, of course. I like how you're not afraid to experiment live. So often we overthink things to the point of paralysis.

holy smokes, this kept me hysterical laughing! And f'n content to send me off IMMEDIATELY. Ive been following THE V for a few years now, but recently went into the trenches for the past 4-6 months and now have come back to see even more that applies to several of my situations, especially my business of THE MUSIC. #bingeaskGaryVee

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this! I love all the mistakes, it's really really refreshing. Good to see laughing and joking, there is a place for this and I think it fits into your Brand. Down in the dirt, trying to make the clouds. LOVE it!

Good stuff Gary. You're stuffing my head with ideas, time to put them into play! I like that call in questions, it really stretches the conversations and allows you to drop several ideas in one show. Keep up the motivation! -Thomas The Tech
