The reason I never beat Dark Moon was because I never beat the Ice Monster.

Yeah, I restarted the game in rage after 4 hours of mashing my a button at this stupid boss. To this day I still haven’t gotten past this boss.

I’ve just recently come back to this game and I’ve managed to get enough skill to beat all bosses so far first try somehow(bosses 1-4), and I’ve got some advice for those still struggling with this boss.
Try to aim for the middle pieces first since they can be the trickiest to destroy
Remember that the more pieces you break, the more your going to have to wait for your shots to hit since he gets further and further away.
Angling your shots can also help significantly if you know when to fire your them because of the increasing gap between you and him.

This boss fight isn't so much hard as it is cheap. You're given not one, but two separate time-limits in order to knock off its armor. The first is your cannon. After a certain amount of shots (I believe), it overheats and you die. The second is the even more infuriating regeneration capability of the boss itself. Take TOO long knocking off the armor and the boss regenerates, meaning you have to start the process ALL OVER AGAIN. And, remember, your gun is ALSO on a time limit.
BUT IT GETS BETTER! Once you knock off the boss' armor, you have to shoot a bomb its mouth. And you only get ONE shot. Just one. If you fail, the boss bites you, your overheat meter jumps up, and you get to knock its armor off again. YAY.
My tip to people struggling with this boss fight is, after knocking out the middle piece(es), to pick a "corner" (i.e., top right, lower right, etc), and keep your cursor there. The boss spins at a fixed rate, so it always takes the same amount of time for a specific chunk of ice to make a full rotation. Pick the piece you want to shoot off and wait for it to get into position. For example, for me, I chose the bottom right "corner" of the hole. When the chunk of ice I wanted got roughly around the top left corner of the hole, I would shoot. By the time the bomb lands, the ice chunk I was aiming for would be in position. It's tricky and requires a lot of patience and observation, and it usually takes more than one "round" to accomplish. But this strategy did win me the fight. I hope it helps you guys. Best of luck!

the overheating cannon would make you have to start the whole level again, but you would only have to start the process of the ice armor again if it freezes over.

I acknowledge that this fight isn't a hard one. All it takes is some timing. The only difficult part is this 6:05 where the bomb will not register going into the bosses mouth and automatically hurts you and then regains all of its ice chunks.
This is the first time I've raged-quit, because I haven't died until now. Why is there even a pressure gauge in this part in the first place? It just seems like a needless reason to up the difficulty with a time limit when you could've just had the boss spit stuff at you instead.
I can't lie, these boss fights are more of a chore than fun. But this one is a thorn in my side.

A saying I learned was that you have to fail to succeed, and yeah I died a lot at this boss just to figure out what to do, but once you get everything down, you can defeat this boss without issue
I remember when I first played this game and got stuck on this level for 4 hours, and after that I never played the game again in 3 years. Now that I've practiced a lot, I can easy beat this on my first try.

I know it's fucking BULLSHIT! If you take too long to aim the ice reforms on his face and when you try to shoot quickly the fucker overheats and you have to restart the whole damn mission! I can always get to the final stage of the boss, but the cannon overheats and I have to start from the beginning!

first time, couldn't aim correctly and my machine burned. After 5 times i realized it's timing and patience. got 2 stars, tried again, got 3 stars (3:29 goal time)
I Hate this boss battle! I'm still on it right now. I can't even get past the second part! If you take too long trying to time your shots he freezes back over and your machine overheats much too quickly. And as you saw, the game glitches and even though you've clearly shot the bomb into his mouth it goes right through him and nothing happens causing you to get hit and your machine to come even closer to over heating. This boss battle is just too ridiculous in my opinion.
There is also a glitch where Luigi just walks into a wall even if you don't press any buttons and you can't get out unless you restart the mission.

Hell no I don't want them to be this creative again because then we get cheap strict time limits and bosses that don't test you're actual knowledge and skills of the game
I remember when I played this game, what really screwed me over was how the 3DS takes in account the movements of the device itself while aiming, not only your gamepad's. And I would often be careless and move my 3DS towards a direction, see it doesn't aim where I want it to, and try to adjust it with the gamepad, in vain because no direction input has the priority other the other. Feels a lot easier when you know what really happens 😄

I don’t understand how this boss was so hard. In fact, all of the bosses in this game were too easy. I think the first one from Gloomy Manor was the hardest.
I never even knew this boss was considered hard or cheap. Beat him on the first try and never looked back.
Finally replaying Dark Moon after playing LM1 for first time to compare the two games. The bosses in dark moon (except the awesome first boss) definitely feel pretty uninspired (I guess it has that in common with LM1).
I'll soon see if this ice boss was really that hard.

This boss gave me so much trouble. My aim is awful anyway, and the fact he rebuilds his face if you take too long is the worst. Not to mention the overheating if you fire too much between phases. I only won with a lucky shot. I have to say well done on getting this fight on the first try.

Rabid Penguinies no it's easy if you just wait for its mouth to open and get close, also at the very beginning don't tilt the cannon so you can destroy all three face pieces then remove the side pieces

The ice monster spins around all of the time during the level. Always make sure to aim at the right spots or else you will have a hard time defeating the ice monster.

the old clockwork boss is one of the easiest because it is just 12 waves of ghosts
I don't see how he just does it and it all works out for him lol I'm still trying and I can't even get past the second part!! And it glitches so when you throw the bomb into his mouth it doesn't even register causing your machine to overheat even quicker than it already does and you take damage. Its ridiculous. This boss battle doesn't even have anything to do with the game. Never before in this game or the old game have you had to take on a machine and shoot bombs at a ghost. Other than this being a possessor battle, its irrelevant.
