    Shalom Danny. I just wanted to let you know how much I am enjoying this series, even if it a year old. Ancient history and artifacts don’t change. I know I will never be able to see the Holy Land this side of Heaven. Through your videos I am able to live vicariously and see things I probably couldn’t see even if I was in Jerusalem. I love history and love the fact that there is proof of what I have believed from a child. God bless.

    Shalom Danny! You are a modern day living miracle, positioned in Yerushalayim now at this time, following 2000 years when Jewish people were in the diaspora. (I saw your video with S&R @ the kibbutz where your family lived.) The miracle still exists, you even survived a version of COVID, bless Adonai!!! There must be a purpose/s that you are living today... For one, I am thankful for your stating archaelogical insights and teachings that challenge traditions. I can't help but have death on my mind as you are teaching about these archaeological evidences and how they concern Yeshua at the time leading to Golgatha, for his eventual death. Many people have death on their minds as they face COVID. Due to the increase of prescriptions for for depression and anxiety, and higher suicide rates, it is evident people are struggling to find hope. Many people need hope. People can choose to believe Adonai will provide hope, that Adonai exists or he does not. Danny, you shined a light on the gameboard on the stone in your vlog. People have been playing games a long time. This game is serious. What will come to people and they gamble on Adonai's existence as truth & it proves false? If you gain, you gain all. If people lose, they lose nothing. Wager then, that Adonai exists and he will give hope. Furthermore, if Adonai exists and he asked Abraham to slay Isaac his favorite son & when Abraham finished his test, giving to Adonai, his favorite, didn't Adonai provide a sacrifice at the end? If Adonai needed a perfect sacrifce later in time couldn't he provide one? Is it better to wager that Adonai exists and he provides love, his favorite sacrifce, when there is no hope elsewhere.

    Master Danny The Digger, your work is amazing. Kindly tell us about some old streets of today, in the 'Old City of Jerusalem' that are not from the time of Jesus, and that have their origin only in the Byzantine Empire, well after Jesus. And that some real streets of Jerusalem were in the Period of the 1st and 2nd Temple, and it was dimensioned from the Esplanade of the Temple and Mount Zion downwards, passing through the City of David to the Pool of Siloam. Awesome stuff Danny! Speaking of smooth pavement stones and slippery when water is present, did 1st century people do anything special to the soles of their shoes to minimize this? When I see all the stones and stairs and hills and smooth surfaces I can only think there was a lot of orthopedic injuries in those days. Also, in the beginning when talking about the burial practices is there a connection to Asian culture and those practices of cleaning the bones or vice a versa?

    Greetings Danny interesting video . Question ? What about the " Hidden Gate "area near the Jaffa Gate city wall ? Is this a possible site for the trial of Jesus ? Archeologists have uncovered a huge stone pavement area near the so called hidden gate as well as a bema or judgement seat . This whole area could accommodate thousands of people in an open gathering or for an imperial proclamation site . Behind this gate was probably Herods palace according to some archaeologists .
    Remarkably, these archeological remains fit very well with "John’s description of the place" of Jesus’ temporary incarceration and trial in front of Pilate. And with the two topographical features that are mentioned by him, the lithostrotos and gabbatha. It would be great if you can do a video on this particular site . Regards .

      @@danny.the.digger Greetings Danny . The “Hidden” Gate which Shimon Gibson thinks is the Gate of the Essenes. The supposed area of Herod the Great’s palace and Praetorium ?By this sealed gate there is surrounding stone pavement, a stone platform, and steps. All by the Ottoman wall ,Behind this wall is the Armenian Patriarchate, a Garden, and a Parking lot .It is of interest with recent findings .This seems like an interesting area to explore and a great topic to cover on one of your vlogs . Kind Regards !

    Why did the Gospel writers feel the need to name that place as the Stone Pavement ? Was that unusual for Jerusalem, to have a stone paved street ? I thought it was commonplace.

  • @Bellthorian

    Danny, one of the reasons I think the Crusader traditions are wrong and the Praetorium was located in Herod The Greats Palace is the historical writing. According to Philo's Embassy to Gaius (Embassy to Gaius 38), Pilate offended against Jewish law by bringing golden shields into Jerusalem, and placing them on Herod's Palace. Why would Pilate put Golden Shields on Herod's Palace if he was not using it as his residence and administrative center?

    • @danny.the.digger
      @danny.the.digger  10 місяців тому

      Who says the praetorium and Herod’s palace are the same?

    • @Bellthorian
      @Bellthorian 10 місяців тому

      @@danny.the.digger Well first Herod Antipas had his own palace and did not use his fathers. Second the The Gospel of Mark uses the word aulē ("hall", "palace") to identify the praetorium, of course it could be a translation error but it could also mean Pilot was used Herod the Greats Palace as his residence and administrative center when he was visiting Jerusalem from Caesarea Maritima. 1st century Jewish historian Josephus stated that the Roman governor Florus took up residence in Jerusalem at the former palace of Herod the Great where the BEMA was, Jesus was standing on the “Pavement” while Pilate took his place at the BEMA or “judgement seat” (John 19:8-13). Philo also indicated that the Praetorium was in the palace of Herod since that is where Pilate initially installed the golden shields for Tiberius, and Mark recorded that at the trial of Jesus the Roman soldiers took Jesus into the palace which is the Praetorium (Josephus, Wars; Philo, Legatio ad Gaium; Mark 15:16).
      Lastly when I look at a map of Jerusalem in Jesus time, if it is accurate has every place mentioned in the bible that Jesus was taken to are all very near each other. The Praetorium, Herod Antipas's palace, the house of Caiaphas and Annas. Right next to the Praetorium was the Gennath gate, again if the map is accurate and a short walk to from the Gennath gate leads to the site of the present day Church Of The Holy Sepulture. Granted this is just my opinion, I am not an archaeologist like you, I am just a guy who is fascinated with history and reads a lot so I could be wrong.

    If Pilate was staying either at Herod's Palace or at the Fortress Antonia, where was Herod Antipas staying that Passover weekend? One possibility could have been that Pilate who in the past allegedly had a bad relationship with Herod Antipas wanted to make amends so that Passover he (Pilate) made an overture of respect by letting Herod Antipas stay at his (Antipas') father's palace and Pilate would stay at the Antonia. I always thought that the Antonia was just a massive soldiers barracks but it could have had some palace like rooms. By the way I think it was more of an an interrogation of Jesus by Pilate and not a trial (at least as we define it).

    • @danny.the.digger
      @danny.the.digger  Рік тому

      That’s another argument in favor of the Antonia. And why was it not a trial?

    • @joelgoldberg3019
      @joelgoldberg3019 Рік тому

      @@danny.the.digger When the RomanPrefect Pontius Pilate is Judge, Jury, and Executioner then that is not a trial. It was most likely a brief interrogation. I do not take the Gospels accounts as the most accurate as it is hard to imagine a hardened and ruthless soldier and admnistrator as Pontius Pilate allowing himself to be intimidated and shouted down by a Jewish crowd. If he wanted to release Jesus I believe he would have done so. It is just my opinion. Great tour, by the way.

    185:0:2 (1987.2) This trial was arranged to take place in front of the praetorium, an addition to the fortress of Antonia, where Pilate and his wife made their headquarters when stopping in Jerusalem.
    185:0:3 (1987.3) Though Pilate conducted much of Jesus’ examination within the praetorium halls, the public trial was held outside on the steps leading up to the main entrance.
    185:2:14 (1990.10) He did not even hear these charges when first stated, but Pilate had him brought from the praetorium, where he was in the keeping of the guards, and he insisted that these charges be repeated in Jesus’ hearing.
    185:5:1 (1993.1) When the guards had brought Jesus back to Pilate, he went out on the front steps of the praetorium, where his judgment seat had been placed, and calling together the chief priests and Sanhedrists, said to them: “You brought this man before me with charges that he perverts the people, forbids the payment of taxes, and claims to be king of the Jews.
    185:5:2 (1993.2) Just as the Jews were about to engage in shouting their protests against the release of Jesus, a vast crowd came marching up to the praetorium for the purpose of asking Pilate for the release of a prisoner in honor of the Passover feast.
    185:6:2 (1995.1) The guards took Jesus into the open courtyard of the praetorium for this ordeal.
    186:4:1 (2001.4) Upon taking charge of Jesus, the soldiers led him back into the courtyard of the praetorium, and after removing the robe which Herod had put on him, they dressed him in his own garments.
    187:0:4 (2004.4) It was just before nine o’clock this morning when the soldiers led Jesus from the praetorium on the way to Golgotha.
    187:1:1 (2004.5) Before leaving the courtyard of the praetorium, the soldiers placed the crossbeam on Jesus’ shoulders.

    Enjoyed the presentation. Jerusalem was utterly destroyed in 70 AD leaving no stone upon another above ground level, but as people be he an rebuilding the city, they would have tried to rebuild key and interesting places but as you can see today, a triumphal arch, which would be placed in an open area for people to see, has been totally built around, if not also rebuilt. It does not seem likely that an arch would have a space inside the top of the arch for people to use, do this, at some point we as added into the rebuild along with everything else over the years. For modern scholars to discount the pavement'd older dating without finding newer coins under the pavement, seems likely to be typical scholarship which seems to thrive off of trying to discount things associated with Jesus etc. These same people tried to write off Pontius Pilate till an inscription was found with his name on it. Trying to piece together the clues of the events and their associated places makes the life of a Israeli archaeologist very challenging and sometimes rewarding, especially when coins and known names of documented people are are found, as well as strategic bedrock and things like the pool of Siloam and the pilgrim's path to the Temple Mount. Besides this, your elaboration on the many traditions of the various churches helps to give a little more appreciation of the people who have appreciated the Biblical elements of past events, even if their guess work was based off of varying degrees of archaeological knowledge, oral tradition and written and rewritten history. Keep up the good work!

    There is a ZERO percent chance that the arch is from Jesus time. When Jerusalem was razed to the ground it was said you could not tell that anyone had ever lived there. That arch is from the Roman city of Aelia Capitolina.
