  • McLennan Design is collaborating with Perkins+Will on the design for Western Washington University’s Kaiser Borsari Hall, a new 60,000 SF building for the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Departments. The STEM project is currently targeting Living Building Challenge Energy Petal Certification and includes a low-embodied carbon mass timber structure. McLennan Design led the effort to leverage parametric energy modeling analysis to arrive at a highly efficient operational energy design while supporting a low total cost of ownership. The project is currently in Design Development and when complete, will be the only carbon-neutral academic facility in the region, be among a handful in the nation, and significantly advance Western’s vision to become the region’s first carbon-neutral university campus.
Watch an interview with Jason F. McLennan, founder of Living Building Challenge and CEO of McLennan Design, as he discusses the exciting educational opportunities for students who will be taking classes in Kaiser Borsari Hall
