I cut about 4 inches of my cotton filter out and replaced it with the moisture absorbing blue silica gel. I built a sleeve out of coffee filter and paper towels and put the silica gel inside and enclosed it to prevent contact with the aluminum housing. I will occasionally remove the silica gel sleeve and throw it into the microwave on defrost to dry it out. I’ve dried out the silica gel once or twice in the last six months. However, this will be the first summer that I have ran the set up. I’m in North Carolina and the humidity does get rather high here. Also, the silica gel is positioned in the middle of the length of the filter. Meaning that I have for 5 inches of cotton filter, then the silica packet and then another six or 8 inches of filter before the air exits the cylinder. I do think you’re right about resistance and also simply the added volume of that large cylinder and the lines necessary to attach it to the compressor and then the to the air tank.
Awesome info I have a fillter like that but it's blue it has a different fillter in it has like seed and some black stuff in it but anyway when I was trying to fill my gun the burst disc blew up on the fillter I'm trying to figure out the size of burst disc I need to order thanks for sharing bsafe buddy I thought my pump blew up sounded loud I got scared lol
@@cornfields-crosshairs4182 yes it did but I'm talking about the ones that come with the big fillter I bought it's like your but blue I've had to of them blow on me trying to fill my gun to bar I think they go by size like I think it measures 8mm all around
Thanks for sharing your experience. Depending on your location, if you live where humidity is high then you do need filters, I live in southern Nevada and it's bone dry so I only use the provided filters. IMO you probably too much filtration and that restricted the air flow.
What tool did you use to remove the cap over the reunites disc? I blew a disc on my very first attempt of using the gold tube but I connected it backwards.
Hey Kevon! I used an angled pick. I had too much "cigarette" style filter material in my gold filter and it was too restrictive and the disc blew because of it. So, I unscrewed the brass bolt that houses the disc and used a pick to remove the remenants.

I use a screw. Just screw a bit and pull it up
