DIY Chicken Plucker and Kill Cone

- Today David will teach you how he made our chicken processing equipment: a plucking machine and a killing cone. Processing chickens CAN be done without both, but they certainly make it a lot easier! And building them yourself can save quite a bit of money.
nice video great ingenuity! For a much quicker but more expensive way try an 18" traffic cone. They are made of plyable washable pvc. Simply cut the top of the cone off to what ever length to get the head through. They are about $20 at tractor supply
nice video great ingenuity
This is awesome David! I'm definitely going to build one of these.
Great video thanks forthe idea!! I like that you're real! Loved seeing your daughter in there with you! My boys love being in my videos too!!
Thank you so much for this. I have just made one along with you in preparation for the job ahead tomorrow.
When do you plan to share your DIY projects finished and in action?
Thanks for the starter video.
Did you ever share how the plucker works?
I lived in Australia and worked in a garage. Their name for the clamp you used is a G-clamp
I heard zap-straps yesterday and I like the ring of it. It was a Canadian guy using it.
And I’m also a big fan
Good job
How did you do with the caos of the fethers jumping all over the place? Did you impruved it?
Please show us how to use them in practice
Hatchet by Gary Paulsen
You are awesome!
Thanks for information
Especially the plucker where does the bird fit
The plucker is stationary and the bird is held by head and feet and moved over the fingers while it is running.
In holland we call them tiewrap or kabelbinder
sip tie is common in sweden but my family use a more morbid name "katt strypare" it mens cat strangler soooo yea.. and no we dont stangel cats we have 3
Use vise grips instead of a C clamp
I watch your videos and next time ICome over to your house can you make a video
So I am trying to make this but all I can find is heavy 4 inch pvc drain pipe. Looks like it is about 1/4imch thick. This seems way thicker than what you are working with. Can you share what type of pipe you used? Or let me know if what a have will work? It seems really heavy.
It is a corrugated drain pipe. It is pretty thick, but not too heavy. I don't think it is kept with the pvc. You can ask at your local hardware store where they are. I think at ours it was kept outside near the paving stones and bags of rock and mulch. Good luck!
How does the plucker work?
Looks like you went through a lot of trouble to turn a bucket into a traffic cone. They sell traffic cones at the hardware store.
Is the bucket large enough for 25-28 lb turkey??
I'm honestly not sure. I'm sure it's STRONG enough, just more a matter of whether the bird will fit or not.
Nice ill try it but i will use screws insted
Instead of glue
In dutch we call it tiereps
I came for the diy cone in the picture. Doing turkeys and don't think the metal ones can handle my big boys.
I can tell you've never used a drill plucker... not worth the effort! Just invest in a barrel if you're doing more than 5-10. If you're doing less, just hand pluck and research other ways to deal with pin feathers.
I think you'll find after using this, the clean up and other hassles of a drill plucker. They are literally the worst! Sorry.
How do you use the plucker? Where does the chicken go?
If you watch our chicken processing video you can see it in action! Plucks a bird in about 30 seconds once you get the hang of it.

Instead of tie wraps/ zip-ties use small rivit s. A cut Ty-wraps can leave a ugly cut on one’s body !!!!
Would have been useful if it was shown being used.
