    I love how you showed how to make it but also showed that you had made and used some in the past.

    Excellent instructional video! My husband decided we weren't going to butcher any more chickens without kill cones, so I started my search to buy some and found this instead. This is our next project!

      Thanks for the nice comment. Good luck building them. It’s really easy once you get started. Just remember, don’t use aluminum, no matter how cheap it is. Use galvanized steel flashing.

    Thanks so much for putting this up. I was considering buying these, but I like the idea of making them. Since I only need a couple i could knock it out on a Saturday morning.

      Wonderful! Glad it helped. We have a processing video we can give you a link to if you want. It was made for people who rent our processing equipment, but shows all the steps in detail. Since it shows dispatching and was made for a specific purpose, it is Unlisted and not monetized on UA-cam and can only be seen with the link. If you'd like the link, you can DM us at www.messenger.com/t/HAPPYWIFEACRES or go to the About tab on our UA-cam channel to find other ways to communicate with us non-publicly.

    I definitely knew what a trapezoid was. Didn't know how to use it to make this awesome ass kill cone though! Great job!
    Going to make some to process all my meat birds next season.

    Very late comment, sorry. How long do you suppose these will last? They seem like a better option than even the 5 gallon bucket ones but I think those will likely last longer.
    How have they done after a year of use? Any revisions?

    • @HappyWifeAcres
      @HappyWifeAcres  3 роки тому +3

      I can't believe it's been a year! They still look new and we use them quite often. No rust or breaks. Like is said in the video, DO NOT use aluminum flashing. Those eventually started to tear and they were very flimsy. But these are doing great. They fit the chicken very well too, holding them snug. Thanks for watching!

    How long did the aluminum ones last? Wish I had seen this video before I made mine with the aluminum sheet.

    • @HappyWifeAcres
      @HappyWifeAcres  Рік тому

      They lasted a year or so but the movement of the chickens made tears and eventually they wore out.

    Thank you! Most thorough vidoe for my novice self...when i was all done i saw this one equated to a Medium size kill cone, which in my ignorance prior to seeing this video is bought online but my birds are larger and i need the large...have you done this process for the large size? And if so can you reply the dimensions i should cut it to? I will try to find online but thought id ask 🙂

    • @HappyWifeAcres
      @HappyWifeAcres  3 роки тому +1

      These cones easily fit birds up to about 8 lbs. I haven’t made bigger ones. When I have a larger bird (rare), I use a swing set and hang the bird by bound legs.

    • @juliestipkala4830

    The bottom opening seems pretty wide.. has this been an issue with 5-7lb Cornsh-X Chickens?

    • @HappyWifeAcres
      @HappyWifeAcres  2 роки тому +1

      It hasn’t been an issue with “normal” sized birds, including CC. Small birds like bantams fall through. Large CC, 8-10 lbs, won’t fit. For those, I hang from a cord like the rabbits or put them in our Turkey cone.

    Would you happen to have a video or suggestions on making cones for turkeys and ducks?

    • @HappyWifeAcres
      @HappyWifeAcres  Рік тому

      I don’t but they’re just bigger versions of the chicken cone. I made one out of metal barn siding once. Had the corrugated ridges. About killed myself bending it! It’s hard to find huge flat metal flashing. The 2 nails in a stump and hatched works also. Just messier. Bigger animals take a lot longer to stop moving. Especially ducks.

    What is the use of Chicken kill cones ?

    • @HappyWifeAcres
      @HappyWifeAcres  4 роки тому +2

      Kill cones are used to hang the chicken upside down for slaughtering. It constrains the bird so the throat can be cut, allowing the bird to bleed out. We use a halal method for slaughtering chickens.
