Definately the house. Three warm toilets vs a tree? No contest! Mercedes wins this one John.

I agree with Mercedes. Because cooking without water to use, a restroom and the ability to wash your hands is not a healthy option. Love you guys!!! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

Think of all the HUGE families that get together for the holidays in their parents’ or grandparents’ small homes. It’s so much fun!!! Some of our fondest memories took place in relatives’ small homes in Pennsylvania.

We vote for Thanksgiving to be in the house because of the water availability & then John does not have to be the water boy. Put tables in the fireplace room for buffet style & tables for sit down eating in the living room. It will be so cozy decorated & since the weather is getting colder all of you will stay warm longer. What a wonderful & Blessed Thanksgiving for all of you.

I hate to go against John, BUT, Vote For #2. Even with the Super Nice Commercial Kitchen, but Without the running water in the restaurant, I have to go with Mercedes, have it in the House. Because you have to have running water to clean the dishes, utensils and wash hands. Not to mention Bathroom Facilities!!

I agree with Mercedes- I believe John and the RV Odd Squad can get the dining hall done. However, there maybe many smells and additional unseen problems with the dining hall. Also, the MAJOR one for me is restrooms. People need to feel comfortable having access to a clean functional restroom for themselves and their families.
Allow Mercedes to cook in a clean, functional kitchen this year and next year have the large dinner in a fully renovated dining hall.

  • @txpushrod62

Go with #2. Don't feel like you need to RUSH to get it finished. Use the house this year and take your time on the
fellowship hall to use next year. Most of all enjoy the fellowship and the time with friends. That is what is most important. The less stress, the more enjoyable it will be for everyone.

Mercedes & the house win this one!! The hall will be awesome when you have maybe 100 or more for a meal. 30 people easily fit in the house. Prep in kitchen…setup buffet style in fireplace room and eat in the room that’s being finished! Much more cozy and homey then “industrial” feeling of the dining hall. 🥰

I'm with Mercedes on this one. As a person who is permanently disabled from mold toxicity poisoning I would never just kill the mold. Mold deploys very dangerous spores when it dies. My job for Six years was to manage mold remediation for vacant bank owned properties. I never took the mold seriously. That stuff will damage your nervous system for the rest of your life. I have to use a rollator now and I'm a young 59 . Use the house. Thanksgiving is a time when families come together in an intimate setting. The house is perfect. Besides, John you underestimate the amount of water needed to produce a dinner for 30 people.

    • @desertschooner769

Well said and spot on, I speak from experience also. I have no injuries from mold but great memories of the cost to properly remove and contain it after it is dead, and that is when the danger is greater, it becomes airborne then, Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I just saw your comment; after I posted my long comment above. I too, have suffered from toxix black mold poisoning in florida. It was shutting down all my organs. (kidney, thyroid, etc) If you can, follow Ken Berry, MD youtube channel ... I started a carnivore diet & in 7 weeks; my hashimotos is normal & no meds needed! Next should be my chronic kidney disease. Will be praying for you & hopes you check out this diet. I went from barely walking in 2017 ... sleeping all the time & today; I feel great just from being on it 7 weeks. God bless. :)

  • @dallasarnold8615
    @dallasarnold8615 3 роки тому +46

Personally I think at this point the house would be the better plan, because of water / restroom access. That number of people may be a steady flow of folks going to the restroom, which would suck at the fellowship hall if it turns out to be a cold day. Now to a different point. I don't know how much you guys know of plumbing parts. For long term water, you should look into hydrants / freeze proof faucets. These have a pipe with a long stem that turns the water off further from the handle. They come in different lengths and sizes depending on use. This would save you from having to cover them in cold weather. And that would save you from having to check up on it each time a camper departs. It is some cost, but could save you a busted line and less work in the long run. Of course too late for this year, but if you look at it now might fit it into next year's budget.

I vote for the house. Bathrooms, running water. Besides, people will have more camaraderie in a smaller place.
The Squad can quickly get the house finished and then help with the dining hall. You’ll have to move stuff out of the hall anyway to do all that spraying and mold abatement. That can then be done while you have all the help to move things out and back. That leaves smaller stuff to do when you don’t have as much help.

My vote is for the house. I agree it is MUCH less stressful to finish what’s already been started. Get the house done. Another benefit is that having people in the house will be warmer. Water is absolutely essential when preparing Thanksgiving dinner. Another thing is that you could have fried turkey, which is a fantastic Southern feast. It gets the men outside being manly men and the women inside setting things up, decorating and pulling all the sides together.

  • @billloomis7611

  • @elainegarcia7063

You know it always takes longer than your worst case estimate, especially with old renovations. You don't have enough time to start a new project before thanksgiving. 30 people for thanksgiving is not that many anyway, that's usually how many ppl are at our family dinners in our regular homes. John just wants to flex the industro-kitchen, haha!! That will be useful for groups of 50 to 100, but you aren't there yet and it will just add to the chaos if you try. Besides, many ppl in a smaller building makes for a more engaged group. A relatively few people in a large building will seem less lively. Also, not sure if there are health department regulations at play, but I'm pretty sure you need running water in your kitchen to comply with that.

    • @tdusterhoft

I always use the power of 3. If you think it’s going to take 1 hour. It’s really closer to 3 hours. If you think it’s going to take 8 days to complete a project. Don’t expect it to be done for 24 days. John, use the house. Mercedes wins this one. Hands down. Hope to come stay with you guys someday. The place is cleaning up nicely.

John, I completely understand how you want to tackle the hall, HOWEVER the holidays tend to be very stressful times when you’re trying to put together Thanksgiving dinner. Do yourself and especially Mercedes a favor…finish the house and have it there. RV ODD SQUAD is family and family deserves Thanksgiving in the home. The stress level will come down and the “coziness” of having it there will do nothing but bring everyone closer together. Not to mention that I’m sure everyone will be donating to the dinner, so most food preparation will not be getting done in the house’s kitchen. Give Mercedes this win, you’ll thank me later😁 God bless!

#2, for sure - because you have access to water. A must for cooking and clean up after. Set up the smallest room as a buffet area - with guests bringing some of their own if they can. You can probably fit 30 people if you set it up like they do in those 'family style' restaurants. :-) BTW, no disrespect meant, but Mercedes talking 'southern' (you'all) sounds funny with her natural (beautiful sounding) accent. :-)

I have to agree with Mercedes. the fact that the project on the house is almost complete, you should always finish one project before starting a new one. the house also already has things that the hall doesn't have which I am sure your guests will appreciate like less work to finish, running water, in house restrooms, and in general will make it more of a holiday than a work / camp situation. holidays are more about ENJOYING friends and family than trying to get as much work done as possible. I hope you all have a great holiday regardless what you decide on. you have come a long way and it looks great.

I’m with john. Less work, bigger space, better kitchen.
The problem with the house is you can’t do both jobs at once. And drywall takes time to harden. If you need multiple applications to it dry and sand, dry and sand, paint and dry. Plus you really can’t do both floor and drywall at the same time.
The smaller kitchen for 30 people?
The dinning space seems too small also. Go to a camp store and buy 5 of those blue water containers you lay on the side and it has a spigot.
Water problem solved. Boil water in one of the big commercial pots for dishes.

You might want to invest into a compressor to pressurize your waterline system to drain the lines.

Sorry John. No running water would be a definite deal breaker for me. As much as I would LOVE to utilize that incredible commercial kitchen 👎 on no running water (unless you could make that happen in 8 days) 🙌
    Happy Thanksgiving 🙏🦃🍁🍽

I could make running water happen in that commercial kitchen in 10 minutes with a shunt hose.
Unless there are serious plumbing problems in the building.

Both have merit but I'd prefer to eat in the dining hall with the commercial kitchen. However, having bathroom facilities for 30 people is very important too. I'd do it in the hall. That is what is was designed to do. I vote dining hall.

I was all for the dining hall until I heard you say there was no water service. Finish the house and go with the house this year for Thanksgiving. Next year you can use the dining g hall. I think the RV Odd Squad will be happy with the smaller space knowing it is just for this year.

With covid the way it is people can keep a small distance from each other in the hall, I would stop the house and go finish the hall. I run a 12,000 sq ft restaurant and from what I see people want to socialize but they don't like to be crowded that's why I pick the hall.

When I was in Boy Scouts we Winter Camped & of course we kept a Camp Fire going all day, we place large HARD Rocks close to the fire & then placed them on a Metal Garbage Can Lid in our Tent for warmth. Radiant Heat.

I'm with John. Go big or don't go. Split your forces and work on both with using the dining hall as the goal. If you fall short, in no time at all with the volunteer/guests, you can quickly change direction and use the house. I'm always an optimist and work well under pressure. I think John is of the same mindset.

  • @TF856

Regardless of where you have the meal, you will probably still need to use the commercial kitchen in the dining hall. There is a very simple, quick, and cheap temporary work around for that.
    Shunt hose! 😃
You can run a drinkable water hose from a spigot at the dining hall over to the nearest working water spigot with a double female adapter on one end of the hose. That would take 5-10 minutes to set up and you would have plenty of water at the dining hall for the kitchen and the bathrooms. That would also feed the water heater.
Just like jumper cables for the water system. 😃
Just a thought, hope it helps.

I definately think the place to hold the dinner is in the big room. You could use the house for people to use facilities but I don't think guests will mind some inconvienences. I wouldn't. The dining hall is a great venue.

do close after Thanksgiving.. (and be sure to put some concrete blocks on the covers...high winds could really mess you up..) Also drain lines just to be on the safe side... This is your first winter..

Vote 2 Have the event in the house. This is what I would do...finish painting and get the flooring done. Use every room including the bedrooms if they are empty. Have the families pick a room, set up tables and let them decorate in their own theme. The room you don't want tables in,set up as a gathering place with chairs,so people can sit around and chat. Have a gratitude board for people to write down what their greatful for and at the end of the evening read all of them. I think this could be an amazing place to gather, give thanks to the Holy One for all His blessings!

I've entertained that many & more for many years in small and large places. Please make it easy and less stressful! I've learned that the hard way for over 40 years trying to make it perfect. Either place will be great but use the space that is the most ready. It's all about the fellowship....period! Godspeed, God Bless and Happy Thanksgiving. 🦃🙏🏻❤️

It's RV life some roughing it shouldbe expected. You can't make a full Holiday meal in an RV - 3 small burners abd a TV dinner sized oven. So anyway you all get it done will be a treat
