1954 Chevy Truck Restored in a Weekend - Project 54 Official Video
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 сер 2024
- This is the result of 15 guys from around the US and Canada coming together with a common goal... To help a fellow hot rodder out by attempting to body work and paint his 1954 Chevy truck in a weekend. This truck has been in the works for almost 40 years. Painting a vehicle in the best of conditions is a tall task. Failure can lurk behind every corner. This is the story of Project 54.

Amazing to see this come together!
jimmydiresta It was an amazing group of guys who made it happen. Got to drive it with my uncle 3 weeks ago... All the hard work was worth it.
Had to watch again.... and again and again and again etc...
The narration reminds me of a Gear Head TV reality show. ..... I love it.
I was smiling until you were working with your uncle, then you said it. It was like working with your Dad. I had to pause it and had a little tearful time to myself reminiscing about some of the projects my Dad and I used to do over the years. That mental trip was priceless to me. Great production of the footage too.
Thanks Bob. I'm greatful. My dad is still around and we still do projects together. It's truly my favorite thing to do.
this video made me go out and buy a 54' Chevy, now me and my dad, an grandfather an son are tag teaming this project. won't be done in a weekend, but we shall have memories just the same.
+Alonza Ward Awesome man. Have fun making the memories!
+Greg's Garage

I will video the whole build and tag you in it.
thanks for the video.
another Chevy enthusiasts was born.
I'd have to agree. you can go to a car show any time....Its not every day you get to work with such a great group of guys...hope some day i get the chance to be a part of somthing like this see ya :-)
Brid chvtruck Agreed. Would love to work with you on a project some day.
Awesome to see it Greg, cool of you to organize it and nice job by the guys
TheWreckingYard It was a great weekend... Hopefully the stars will align again some day.
Congrats to everyone involved. It is so great to see folks come together like that.
Thanks. I was a blast working alongside my good friends.
Everything about it was awesome. Hands down, one of the best weekends of my life. I was very lucky to have been a part of it.
Fantastic video Greg! A big hell yeah to all the YTGG team that was able to help on this project! The real deal, no TV fantasy here! You guys are the best and it makes me proud to be associated with the YTGG.
i wish these guys would come to NC and help me with our family truck. a 1952 chevrolet 5 window truck. real nice video brothers. God is good!
All those good sweet words for just a 54 Chevy
This video is too short, to let people clearly see how much work had gone into this truck....;) GREAT job!
Looks like everyone enjoyed them selves. Thanks for sharing.
May be acquiring a 54' soon! Next week, so I'm trying to find out any info. to improve and keep these pieces of Americana on our roads! We live in the greatest country in the world, let's remember our good roots!
Very cool video Greg. Discovery channel quality with out the stupid ad breaks...Well done!
Thanks Mark!
Greg, Very much enjoyed the video, the comrade and the project. It shows that "social" media really can bring people together for some pretty cool stuff.
Agreed. It's a great way to meet up with other guys from "the internet" with similar interests. It's like we are all long lost brothers.
The building of comeradre was more satisfying than the truck build! Very nice guys!
Now that was a great vid!! You did a GREAT JOB WITH the editing and music DOUBLE THUMBS UP!! You da man for making it happen!!
Thanks John. You and Travis provided muscle when we needed it most!
Great work all!! Now I have to restore my old 54!
WOW speechless ,,,thats one HELL of a video that deserves many watch's !!!! - Damion
Thanks man!!! I've been waiting for a vid from you for awhile. I hope everything is well. I think last time I saw you, you were getting ready to move your shop.
Greg's Garage All moved just along way away ,,,,all mobile stuff consuming my dayzzzz crazy ,,,will be on more !!! Sweet truck and great going-on's
That was one of the most emotional videos I have seen in awhile. The phone call ending was the greatest part.
Procrastinatorgarage Thanks man. It was an incredible effort to make it all happen. I just wanted to do it justice by making a video that captured the feeling.
I wish I could have joined! I have plenty of experience painting in that weather. Its really tricky trying to clear coat in that condition and not have dry spots. I found that using the high temp reducer and adding a little more reducer than normal helped me, I just had to move really quick before the other side had a chance to tack up...lol. This truck turned out great and looks badass and love the patina look. You guys did great!
Thanks man... We def could have used the expertise... Test panels don't really do any good when the conditions are off the charts like this... Experience is the only weapon. That said, I agree, the truck came out pretty sweet.
That was fun to watch.
persuaderboats It was a blast to do the work!
Awesome video Greg! Of an awesome project and an awesome time working with and meeting new friends. I was truly blessed that you made it happen here in KC so I could be a part of it. Thanks man!
TooShyGuyKC Thanks Tim. What a fun weekend.
got a 3100 my dad gave me when i was 16 nut for nut, bolt for bolt. im 23 now and im still trying to build it. i got a one year old now and my dream is to finish it to be one of the first vehicles she drives.
Great video brother....
It choked me up a little even though I got to participate in the experience. I guess sometimes it takes a bit for it all to sink in.
I want to say thank you for providing the challenge and I would be proud to go anywhere with this team and do it all again.
Velvethamma It all sorta raised the hair on my arms when I was editing it. I can't say thanks enough to everyone who was a part in working on and all those who were cheering us on. Next time I want someone else to handle the details so I can WORK on the project more.
I got choked up as well man. The whole experience was awesome! I will go to my grave remembering that weekend in 2014 as the most awesome Labor Day weekend of my life.
You and the rest of us!
Greg that is tooo awesome!! What a direct illustration of the garage gang!!! CJ

Thanks again for your support Jerry. I wish you could have made it, but I know it just wasn't in the cards this year... Who knows what the next year holds.
Holy smokes! I'd be crapping my pants after that first coat of clear! Great work!!
+Anthony Babowicz Yeah... It was touch and go for about an hour. The guy who painted it was at his wit's end... Thankfully, we waited it out and recovered... It turned out AWESOME.
This is the definition of 'team-work'.......most people talk bullshit, and have an excuse why they can't help.
100% correct.
Great......Absolutely.
ZIGgassedUP Thanks Zig.

I really like the paint it's easy on the eyes great job !
+Billy H. Thanks!
you guys rocked it ---very inspiring ---no failure there --peace
***** Agreed. Success was had on the first stroke of the paper on the truck.
Old trucks look good with a patina or worn finish, because they're trucks. No one who owns a truck long enough doesn't haul stuff with it. Heck I have a '74 Ford F-100 I am redoing, I take it to car shows, but I also haul stuff with it, brush, wood, etc. A truck is a truck, and even hot rodded, it should still look like a truck.
that was killer thumbs up greg
***** Thanks Larry!
1St CLASS Greg !

Into the Black, you sneeky feller. Nothing gets wasted on me. I teared up a little but I do believe that was just because I could smell Stevie Ray thru the camera.
;D This was a fun little video to make.
I took a shower every NIGHT! This Stevie Ray was slick n clean!
cutworm59

+Jim Brent Thanks Jim. It was a blast. The smile on my uncle's face was worth every ounce of pain.
great stuff- wish i could have been a part of it. great job fellas
bigpaw64 Thanks BP!
Loved the come together team work. I would of had to change that 54 grill to the 47-53 if it would go in without major metal change. Y'all did nice work and it looks like a solid total dependable ride. 54 was just an off year for all the big autos. I've often wondered about the poor sap who bought a new 54 Bel Aire and the first time he seen the 55 Bel Aire. I don't want any body to think I'm putting this truck down tho. I wish my 52 was in this shape. Good video😉.
I hope your content gets out! You have an obvious high degree of skill in many areas. I love you videos, that's my week gone, I'll be loafing here long-term. A bit upset I haven't found you before now :)
Hey!!! Welcome! I'm glad you found me. I try to keep things as interesting as I can around here. Cheers!
its not about the end its about the journey

Greg. #1 congratulations on the beautiful success of a GREAT project! #2. Thank you so much for doing all you do and posting all you post. Like I wrote Tom, you guys have been an inspiration to me and helped me keep going when the going got rough. I hope I can make a future event and meet some of those great guys who made your uncle's '54 a huge success!
Thanks Bruce. It's a pleasure being "one of the guys" around here.
Oops. I meant that you are one of those great guys. Sorry.

You captured it.
This was a fun one.
Awesome!
So awesome
MrFireman164 I can't put into words how cool it was to work with this group of guys (and one lady) to make that project happen.
0:58 Had a good friend pull one of them out of the texas hot tarred parking lot of a 7-11.
He then looked at me and said with all seriousness... You know everybody who saw & stepped over that penny without taking it... Never had to eat an Armadillo! 31618
Wow Greg that was an awesome vid great editing and a bunch of great guy's with a sweet truck how could it come out wrong.
you guys did a fantastic job.
Looks Bitchen guys great work. hope you all cellabrated with a cold one.

+Justanoldguy '46 Thanks man! It couldn't have come together better.
Awesome truck!! I hope you left the Hawkeyes seat covers on.
+The Iron “theironatheist50” Atheist 50 Yes we did. It was supposed to get a hawkeye on the door too. I didn't have time to get it done though...
awesome!
Shut Yer Face Garage Thanks Matt. It was a ton of fun. The matte clear was a bear, but other than that, smooth as silk.
awesome
all i can say is very cool video and i am lucky to be in the YTGG hell yea
that's awesome to see
+Ricky Cavazos It was a blast to work with all the guys and make it happen. There's no better group of dudes out there.
My dad owns a 54 Chevy truck 5 window and he's looking to restore his truck as well
Awesome vid!
satajet883 Thanks Rich.
what the hell is that orange crap smeared on that truck.. ruined it !
That paint job sucks. Whatever effect you were going for is lost on me. It would have looked better without random samples of color here and there. Hate to say it, but that's what I see. I don't see anyone else pointing it out, maybe that means I'm alone in my opinion but I doubt it.
If they had mimicked the effects of sun damage in custom color, that could possibly look amazing if done well, but what they have looks like someone just gave it a few random shots of color, and to me that makes it look worse than basic black, not better.
Color choice aside, it's a nice truck. The teamwork and skill evident in the build was impressive.
LOL I see I touched a nerve. Oh well, I'm still glad I said it, someone had to be the voice of reason.
Nah, no nerves here dude. It's the typical guy who "doesn't get it" who has never so much as picked up a paint gun that wants to tell someone else, they are doing it wrong. Do you go to car shows and tell car owners you can see the swirl marks in their buff jobs?
If it's not your style, that's cool, but that doesn't make it suck. It just makes it not your style. The other thing that you don't get is that is a starting point for more work to be done on top... It's a work in progress. The final result will be a layered/distressed look... It just wasn't in the cards to do the additional layers over the weekend we painted the truck.
That makes more sense. Who can fault a work in progress? Post a video when it's done, I'll tell you if I like it or not. Not that my opinion matters...
Check out my SMC from this past Saturday. The owner shows a few of the spots.
Like the video you guys did a great job. I have to say though WTF is the Orange polka dot paint job, it destroys the flowing and rounded lines of the old Chevy that made it Iconic. Sand them off repaint and put some nice pin stripes on that accent the lines. You truck though and everyone has a, you know what. Good build.
Owner wanted them. He did a lot more to them after the build weekend to make them look like faint repairs. Not my style, but it's not my truck either.
Go Buckeyes Guys!
Wow, awesome! Great job!
Thanks man!
Awasome, reminds me of an episode of Hot Rod Road Kill!
Thanks man!
i love the video and all the hard work. i have a question why the red primer ? what was the idea there i read the comments and didnt really get a sense of why.
So over these paint jobs that look like junk yard stuff or patina.... Should have just matte blacked it.. But it's all about what you like so 👍
