    Another great video! I too, did not know about MIS, even thou I am familiar with this new way of lighting interiors with a dome light. Still, very informative and enjoyable to watch!

    • @JonasNoell
      @JonasNoell  3 роки тому +2

      Yeah, it's also not really clearly documented in my opinion. I think the default now should be if you add a VRaySun that it creates a domelight with a VRaySky instead of asking to put it into the environment. The truth is for exterior scenes you might very well get away with it and wouldn't really notice a huge difference, but for interior shots if you light with the environment you will get catastrophic results :-)

    Nice Tutorial as Usual, I would like to know please how did You hide the ceiling in just one view port and not in the view You are rendering from?

    • @JonasNoell
      @JonasNoell  3 роки тому +2

      Hi, the ceiling is just a plane and then if you enable backface culling in the object properties you can look through from the other side in the viewport :)

    hello
    does vray 5.2 remove light advanced optinos from dome light?
    Do you use the same aproach for exterior as well?
    thank you

    • @JonasNoell
      @JonasNoell  2 роки тому +1

      Hi, it seems some options were removed in 5.2, that's correct.
      In general yes but for exteriors you can also get by without the domelight and just illuminate through the environment as there are not so many secondary bounces...

    How come my Dome light don’t have advanced option on the bottom?
    I am using 5.2.2 Vray and 3ds 2022.
    And why not using Vray camera?
    For interior scene, no need to put Amb. Occlusion? Thanks for your tutorial 🙏🏻

    • @JonasNoell
      @JonasNoell  2 роки тому

      - This was changed in Update 2, the advanced options are no longer accessible.
      - The V-Ray camera is in my opinion much more annoying to use as all parameters are connected. So if you change the shutterspeed it will change the exposure and motionblur and so on. But if you like to use it then go for it!
      - Technically with brute force GI and high enough sampling you wouldn't really need that. But there is the option in the GI settings to add that if you want to use it to add additional contrast.

    Does this still work the same way with Vray 6? I mean does it still render faster using a dome light instead of the Environment Map to render VraySky? I've noticed in Vray 6 there are no "Advance options tab - Enable MIS" in the Dome light settings. Maybe the Environment Map also have "MIS" ability now, whatever that means? (Does any of this even matter when you have an interior scene with no windows / outside light coming in, only interior lights?)

    • @JonasNoell
      @JonasNoell  5 місяців тому +1

      Hi, I guess the MIS option is now always on for the domelight and hidden from the UI as there is no real reason to turn it off. Also lighting through the Environment Map still has the same problems (when lighting interiors with a lot of bounces) as demonstrated in the video.
      And if you don't have any windows in your room and only artificial light then all of this doesn't apply to you anyway :-) It mainly relates to situations where you have a very bright light source "pushed through" a smaller opening to illuminate the inside of something, as this requires smarter sampling and a lot more bounces. For exterior scenes that is usually not as problematic and in practice you wouldn't notice much of a difference in terms of quality and rendering speed.

      @@JonasNoell Thanks, that makes sense. Will be using dome lights for partial exterior scenes from now on.

  • @pixelquarry

    Never heard nor known about MIS, thanks for the insights. How did you manage the exposure for the perspective view? When you moved around while not looking through the camera the exposure seems to be close to the EV9 of the camera.

    • @JonasNoell
      @JonasNoell  3 роки тому

      In the Environment you can set the global exposure, this will set the exposure of your perspective view if you don't use a camera.

    hey, ich schreibs mal auf deutsch.
    ich versuch das zum laufen zu bekommen. den adaptive dome light gibts ja schon seit vray next, was ich momentan auch noch benutze. hat sich das in vray 5 verbessert? denn ich kriege mit den portal lights immer noch besere ergebnisse. weniger rauschen. irgendwie ist das licht auch ein bisschen heller, bläulicher und kreiert weniger kontraste im innenraum wenn ich das dome light benutze. renderzeit reduziert sich zwar um 20%, aber allgemein ein schlechteres ergebnis als mit plane portal lights...

    • @L3nny666
      @L3nny666 3 роки тому

      ich glaube dass adaptive dome light ist in vray next noch nicht so gut...

    • @JonasNoell
      @JonasNoell  3 роки тому +2

      Hi, ja ich hab auch gemerkt dass es mit Portal Lights zum Teil bessere oder sauberere Ergebnisse gibt. Der Adaptive Dome ist quasi die automatisierte Lösung, dadurch versucht dann V-Ray selber zu erkennen wo die Fenster bzw. Öffnungen sind und muss deshalb nicht von Hand die ganzen Portal Lights setzen. Das funktioniert vermutlich je nach Szene mal besser oder mal schlechter. Vom Setup ist es auf alle Fälle einfacher mit dem Adaptive Dome :) Ob sich was zw. V-Ray Next und 5 getan hat kann ich dir leider nicht sagen. Insgesamt funktioniert es mit dem Adaptive Dome eigentlich recht gut, aber wenn man die Zeit und Muße hat spricht auch nichts dagegen weiterhin Portal Lights zu benutzen...

      If you use a LUT file make sure that you enable "Save in image". All the other adjustments should be saved into the sequence by default already.
