  • Our buddy Tim brought in an old single cam KA24 cylinder head for his race car to get a basic rebuild. After further examination, however, it became clear that this head required more than a basic rebuild. We put it through a rigorous research and development process to get nowhere. Watch the vid and see why!?

    It never ceases to amaze me how some people choose to start on the back foot and make things harder on themselves. Just go for the KA24DE. LOL

    🤣🤣 "....oh that's good enough, it doesn't need to seat all the way down because you know seating all the way down would make sense" 😂

    Ouch. Tough situation to be in as a shop owner. Lots of liability and unknowns here. Even harder when this came from a friend. I appreciate you making a video on the situation none the less. Hard to believe that head stayed together long enough to see a race. Much less win

      It actually went a full season!
      If it wasn’t my buddy it wouldn’t have made it past disassembly honestly lol

      @@headgames I don't blame you. Not a pretty situation to be involved in. It amazes me that car stayed together. I guess it's safe to assume the spring pressures on the seat as well as full lift had to be ALL OVER the place yes? I'm honestly speechless on this one. I can't imagine the gains that COULD be had with a correct valve train combo and a little of your porting magic. That's wild

    IDK why "Fubar" doesn't get stamped on the head. Thanks for the Video, Hey Dave what's the best and worst cylinder heads on any engine in your opinion. Also still waiting for that "Head Gasket Ted talk" .

    • @headgames
      @headgames  4 місяці тому +2

      lol we actually had a stamp made that’s said F*cked.
      Head wise, really depends on what we are competing for. Because the one that makes the most power wouldn’t be the best on the flow bench.

      @@headgames let’s say road race. American and import versions that you have been impressed by. (Stock form)

      @@MRJZA75_34 the Subaru is a great platform for road racing at least for what I have personally seen. The engines last a few years at 650whp in this application before needing a freshen up. And they win!
      Something we are not involved with but I have a buddy who is the lead drivetrain engineer for corvette racing. And the amount of time that they spend from concept to production on the race engines is insane fast. And they win! Then a few years later you see it in a passenger car. That’s been super impressive for me to see and learn from.

    Some egregious shit has definitely transpired with these cylinder heads. I am in disbelief these heads were running and something did not grenade !!!

    One of the Worst Valve train setups to come out of a shop !! .....Just shows ya if the ports Flow, valves Seal & Until something Breaks, If the Lash is Near right the engine Don't know any better & Makes power.....Not much mass or valve spring Pressure there, But at High Rpm involved Something critical was gonna Break or come Loose & Kill the Whole engine.....Owner will probably Never get the True story on it...
