First rode on this magnificent road back in 1968 as part of a package Yellowstone Park tour offered by the Northern Pacific Railway. The tour began at the NP passenger station in Billings and ended at Mammoth Inn in the Park. Returned in 1994 to see the route once again, and even hike around the high point. Never forgot this travel delight. Thank you, Lori.
The Beartooth Highway is just magnificent. Sometimes I take for granted what a gem it is. I am glad that you had the opportunity to visit and hope you can again someday.
So 1st off thank you for what you do. We ride from the Midwest out to the West Coast to the south of the East . These are exactly what I'm looking for in videos where I can search for a destination get a route get some interesting info out of them. So good.
Such a sharp contrast to when highway 212 travels between Billings Montana, and Montevideo Minnesota. On that stretch of highway 212 you feel like you are on the moon with nothing around you.
Thanks, just done this in SEP 2023: incomparable & a great Drive; from HELENA , staying overnight in Cooke City, & late into RED LODGE MT for another overnight…….Great short hikes, stops, views , Fort Yellowstone , Lamar Valley……….( well to much for one Day)…… Interestingly, as incredible as Glacier NPARK &/“ Going to the Sun Road, etc”………….
Drove this on our honeymoon in 2015. Actually spent the night at the Top of the World. We are looking to return next summer. The most beautiful and amazing drive I ever took.
@@loristravels Completely lucked out. We were having lunch and a drink in Red Lodge and we were looking for a place to stay the night. We saw the Top of the World on a map and gave a call. We were told they were usually booked way in advance but they just had a cancellation and if we got there soon we could have the room.
My wife and I did this back in the early '90s, part of a 2 week summer camping trip "out west", and I'd have to say it was the highlight of the entire trip, which included the Tetons, Yellowstone, Devils Tower, Glacier and many other places to numerous to mention. I especially liked the plateau area, with it's wide open vistas and lovely glacial tarns. Nice music, although the string squeaks were a little distracting- as a guitarist I understand.
I am glad that you enjoyed your trip out west! You should plan another trip out here, the wide open spaces are so calming. And I totally get the string squeaks, my husband likes them but it is torture for my sensitive ears. I even tried to tone it down using the equalizer in final cut pro but it just wouldn't fix it as much as I wanted it to. There is probably a way but I am still on the learning curve.
Lori, another fine job. I'll watch the long version later this week when I have more leisure time available. Ironically, today is my ex-wife's 60th b-day and I reached out to her with a text and her reply was "yes, hard to believe 40 years ago today we pulled into Red Lodge, had breakfast and headed out on the Beartooth for our first time". Your town and this road are very special. 40 years later and it's still what the ex and I remember most about our short time together. To this day RL feels like one of those missed opportunities to me. Not to regret, that's futile and pointless, but just to look back and think what a wonderful town and how much our lives might have changed if we had stayed there like I wanted. Tom
Thank you for watching and taking time to watch the long version later. I really had a hard time deciding which is why I did both. Happy Belated BDay to your Ex. I am glad that you had to enjoy the area together and it gave you fond memories. You are right we can't change the past but sometimes we wish we could.
Drove out from Clark’s Summit Pa. (5700 miles round trip) 2nd week August 2023, nothing out there but still so much to see, Little Big Horn, Cody, Rushmore, Yellowstone and much more. we will be back yearly from now on.
Been there several times. Could never tire of this road or Highway to the Sun. But most videos are so focused on the road that fail to show the fantastic vista's in all directions. I know that's hard when concentrating on the road. Being a passenger is almost better than being the driver. Thanks. For the mem9ries
I am glad that you like the Video. I get that the road is the major part especially when the camera is mounted to the dash. I am always torn between showing the drive as a drive or as scenic stops. I do try to mix it up a bit, maybe I need to do more to show how majestic the Beartooth Highway is. Always a work in progress. Thank you.
Thank you for watching. Beartooth Highway is Seasonal. It usually opens around Memorial day and can close anytime past Labor day depending on weather. It is currently closed but they expected to close it for the season on Oct 9th. We got some winter winter in the high elevation which prompted the closure. Chief Joseph highway is usually open all year to the HWY 212 intersection, (and a little beyond) but it would be a drive in and out on the same route.
HI!.. I use the GoPro 11 and the GoPro 10. I have the GoPro mounted onto the Volta External battery Grip for longer battery life & to the grip makes it easy to hold on the back of the Motorcycle. I use the same setup when I am in the Jeep. I do quite a bit of editing in Final Cut Pro to bring out the colors and add density and contrast. Still shots I use a Nikon DSLR, I tried using various point and shoot cameras but the quality just wasn't there. I hope this helps.
What camera were you using? OOPS. Never mind. I just found your answer to this question in another comment. Thanks. I really appreciate your video. Thank you.
Thank you very much for your video! I planned to drive this toward the middle of August but couldn’t find on street view of there is a ‘welcome to Wyoming sign’, hence I came looking in here. Am I correct that at the 8:22 mark there isn’t an actual welcome sign? Or do you know if there’s a welcome sign on the other side?
There is no welcome to Wyoming sign. I remember years ago there were signs but not anymore. Just the welcome to Montana sign on hwy 212 heading east towards red lodge. The big sign at the turnout used to have a forest service sign but they must have gotten tired of constantly replacing it. 🤷🏻♀️

Bicycles are allowed on hwy 212 Beartooth Highway. The road is narrow with no real shoulder so care should be taken. If you are from a lower elevation know that Red Lodge elevation is 5,555 ft and the summit of Beartooth Highway is 10,947 ft.
I went thru June 14, 2023, it was 2 degrees Celsius, raining and windy could only see about 100 yards....on my 2018 Harley Davidson Road Glide Ultra, needless to say wasn't much fun and not very scenic....so guess I'll have to try again
It's a bummer that you didn't see it in better weather. It can get cold up there and the weather can change so quickly. We have been up there during the Beartooth Rally in mid July and caught some snow so it can happen any time of year that the highway is open. I hope that you try again, the scenery is majestic when you can see it.

Where highway 212 ends it's long journey from Edina Minnesota.
