Man these dealers... Hope this fixes it, someone else said the door alignment was so far off on their car that they had push to the right of the raised pixels on the door.
lol, thank you for this video...I was lightly touching the raised pixel thinking it was a sensor and could not understand why it would not open. I always resorted to the key fob to open, which was a hassle.... great details in your video. I had to push the button really hard since the cover does not flex.
Oh my, I have this exact problem. My charge door only opens about 10% of the time when I press it. I have to use the remote EVERY time. Will have to try the felt pad idea. Thanks!
This is a super helpful video! After I purchased my I5, I could not open the charge port door manually. I took it to the dealership. They didn't even know that it could be opened manually. (Don't purchase from Larry H Miller SW Hyundai in Albuquerque, NM.) One of the mechanics got it to open, but I still have to press with both thumbs to get it open.
Wow, some of these dealers are just not ready to be selling or servicing the ioniq 5. That's why I haven't taken it in yet though my 5000 mile service reminder is going off everyday, not sure there are any local dealers that can service it and handle some warranty work properly.
I've had trouble manually opening the charge port door, and normally just open it with the remote. Having just viewed your video I decided to see what I could do. What I found is that pressing a bit to the RIGHT of the fjve pixels, about half way to the edge of the door, it will open just fine. Your mileage may vary. Try it before searching for a pad.
@@CarsJubilee i’m learning a lot from your channel. i’ve read the manual but it’s quite confusing. thank you for sharing your time, talents & knowledge with all of us!
You can do everything while charging except move the car :) The amount of energy you use on heating or cooling while charging is not going to make much difference if you are dc fast charging. If you are charging level 1 or level 2 in extreme temperatures it might make a difference.
@pctkheem2851 very hot or very cold. If you were only doing the slowest level 1 charging in those conditions you might be using as much as you are adding to the battery. But if doing level 2 or DC fast charging then you won't even notice any change in charging speeds.
@@CarsJubilee thanks for answering. How's the depletion for the battery when charging electronics like phones or using dashcam? Battery depletes super slowly for the vehicle?
@pctkheem2851 not noticeable at all. Idk if I'm doing the math right but I think you could full charge your cell phone 5000+ times with a full ev battery.
just today dealer said that manually open it's not for my version (progress 2021) we tried to put something as you show but actually did not work, any suggestion?
Every ioniq 5 charge port can be manually opened. Try opening it with the remote first. Once it is open, check the little square button inside, press the button and see if it works. When we press on the outside, we are just trying to press that button from the outside. Maybe your actual button is broken?
I used a clear rubber bumper made for kitchen drawers and place it over the button on the charge port. It’s perfect and almost unnoticeable. I attach a picture if I could
Mine is one where pushing doesn't work. I just use the FOB. I'm concerned that if you put a pad on it, and it's too high, the door may be pushing on the button all the time, and may run the 12vdc battery juice.
Ahh gotcha, I would think that if the pad is too high it should trigger the button when you try to close the charge port door but definitely a concern. My charge port door worked just fine before but I'm going to keep that little pad on for awhile and see if I run into any issues. It's definitely making it easier to open by pushing at the very least.
i tried adding a bit of material and it doesn't work. I even tried adding 1mm of hot glue to build up the nub and it won't open no matter how hard you push. I have a feeling the nub is the exact shape required to push the button, or there is a sensor in the nub that can't be blocked by anything.
Hmm does the actual button inside work? I've heard some owners say the actual button itself doesn't work. If a little bit of extra padding isn't working then something else may be the issue (not aligned correctly or doesn't work?).
Would the voice command work if the car is moving slowly (i.e. as you're pulling into your driveway), or does it have to be completely stopped and/or in Park?
Thanks! I haven't personally encountered any 12v issues so I feel like I may not have enough personal experience to share much with everyone. I avoid all the possible triggers like using the phone app to open the charge port and I don't leave anything plugged into the obd2 port. I do know they are releasing a fix for Europe?
@@CarsJubilee I ear that too. I have my ioniq for two months and i already experience a problem with battery 12 v. I hope hyundai solve this problem for good. This affect other models. Thank you for your share
My battery is completely depleted so my key fob won’t open the charge port door and I can’t push the door hard enough where you said to because it’s probably too far from the button on the inside of the door. Not sure what to do. Someone please help🙏🏻
The button under the port is electronic as well so if your 12v battery is dead that may not won't work either. You might be able pry it open? I would think the charge port door runs off the 12v battery like most of the electronics for the car. So you just need to jump the 12v battery. Check the manual for instructions on how.
stupid car won't open charge port and I was low battery , pushed the pad and the key but nothing, I was desperate and need to charge it so just forced the door open and that did it!
Ya I think most of us have functioning/properly aligned charge port doors. But I've seen a lot of people complain about theirs not working no matter how hard they push.
If the 12v is dead, then you would need to jump the 12v battery first. If the traction battery is dead because you ran it to 0% state of charge the 12v should still be operational.
How do you fix a charge port door that will NOT stay closed? It keeps opening on its own after trying to close it. Dealer has no answers except they just blame software which I know is BS. 😢
Hm does it open right after you close it? Or it just opens at random times? It's possible your charge port door is too snug or aligned too close to the button and it's pressing it by itself vs others that have it too far away. If it's software then that really stinks, ask them to request Hyundai engineer to come out to take a look. Or request them to start changing out the entire charge port assembly until they are able to fix it.

Sorry to hear that, tell Hyundai to replace that whole assembly. Otherwise rip it off and tell them you don't want it flying off and hitting another car on the highway so they need to fix it :)
Had this issue and all the dealer did was say push harder. Not helpful. Your video is so much more helpful. Thanks

I got the same response. I'm super glad I was able to help pay his salary.
Hallelujah! And the charging port door opened. I used put a small piece of mole skin to decrease the gap. Thank you!
Awesome glad to hear it worked!

@@CarsJubilee My dealership is absolutely worthless.
Is this only for trim above se
I think all trims have the same charge port and same ways to open.
Thanks so much! I just brought my car home and CANNOT open the stupid door manually. Now I understand what's going on. 👍
You're welcome! Hopefully you can get it working if the lid is not too misaligned.
Same here. I added a small decal to the button, and, that did the trick. Thanks.

There ya go!
can the charging port lid close with a small push down from the lid above without pressing the button?
Yes you can, but I try use the button. I'm afraid I'm going to push it out of alignment.
what is the voice command you use for opening the charge port door?
'open charge port door' is what I usually say. 'open charging door' may work as well.
