I too had issue with the door. Like others went through the “checklist”. What it turned out to be was the pin and the latch were not lined up. The pin was slightly higher. To center it I loosened the pin and drilled out the two rivets holding the back plate (do not take the pin out or the back plate will be lost). I lowered the pin to exactly center on the latch with no stabilizers down. Then, tightened the pin back. I drilled new rivet holes into the back plate using the original holes in the frame. Put the rivets in and voila a perfect close. 20 min fix! Thanks for your video!

In your video, you mentioned the problem with your door. We ended up dropping by Jackson Centered due to a problem with the latch. Our door was not closing correctly. Apparently, latch needs to be lubricant regularly. Also, there was an extra washer in the latch that is problematic. The latch was replaced free of charge along with tips on how to maintain it. Now our door closes easily and with little effort.
I have the exact same year and model airstream and we’ve only had it out 4 times now. Our door was also difficult to shut but it was only when i had the stabilizer jacks down. It turns out I was putting too much weight on the rear stabilizing jack near the door and it was creating some torque on the frame around the door that caused it to bind and become extremely difficult to latch. Once I backed off the load on that rear jack the door easily latched even when swinging shut under its own weight. I wouldn’t have thought the stabilizer jack could put any twist into the frame but it must have something to do with how they are joined to the floor frame. See if it works for you.
Airstreams are cool. My grandpa had one all my life. Now it has a second life with my uncle, who has remodeled it. The reason why I don't have one is the very reason they last so long. I love slides and the room of 5th wheels. I can see the attraction of Air Stream, especially if you do not know how to fix or maintain an RV. I just don't like the narrowness. You pay a lot for a small space.
Hard question to answer. Some say it all went to crap when Thor Ind took over years and years ago while others just say the quality get worse every year. For sure I would be cautious with the "COVID Years" of production when everyone was taking short cuts in materials and labor.
As a potential (very likely) future Airstream owner - the door closure issue is VERY concerning. Window's sticking is a something Airstream should have fixed long ago.
We run this dehumidifier 24/7 for 3 years now and it is great. Keeps the water off the windows, makes the heat feel much better in winter and of course keeps the moisture down in the warm months. Great video. You are talking about quality and resale value and I think there are more 25+ year old rigs than I have seen any where other than a vintage rally. 25 years from now that flying cloud will still be camping.
It's the outside that counts when it comes to RVs , I had bone head buddy's that always looked at the inside and judged it , whether it was pickup trucks or rvs by the inside . To me I think airstream are the ultimate rv .
I have no sway and don't even know the trailer is behind me because I have a heavy tow vehicle, a RAM 3500. I have the Equal-i-zer weight distribution hitch, the bars are a little heavy but it does a great job. A tow vehicle that "just meets" the specs will pull your trailer but it will not be a comfortable drive, that is why I have the truck and the drive is a joy, mountains, sand, mud no problem. Thanks for watching and good luck. Please watch for my book, My Airstream Mentor, coming out February 15th on Amazon.
@@LandingZoneHome I was the very first person to use this unit. They were still removing the stickers when I went to pick it up. The build quality and materials wasn't what I expected a $107K trailer to be, and it really has made me reconsider purchasing.

Have you rented any other RVs? If you have you would find out that Airstreams usually have some of the best materials around. All RVs are built light weight for towing or for motoring. So it is hard to find a durable, light weight, and cheap RV. Airstream comes the closest to fulfilling 2 out of 3. Durable and light weight but not cheap. Airstreams also are considered to have some of the best build quality in the industry and last a long time. They also hold their value well.

I wouldn't think any RV would be ideal for that weather, I know I would not attempt it. With temps down to the 30s or even 40s the interior skin gets very cold. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.
Hi Richard, I pull my 27FB with a RAM 3500 single rear wheel, I already had this truck from the 5th wheel I previously owned. It is a little over kill but is great. Up to 30' Airstream you would be fine with any 1500/150 with the largest engine with 30' and over go with a Heavy Duty truck. The more the tow vehicle weights the less sway. I'm not big on using SUVs except when under 25 foot models. You can tow with many vehicles but it may not be save and the ride will be uncomfortable. Appreciate you watching and please look for my Airstream book coming in February.
Great video 👌🏻 thanks 😊. ✌🏻 from Australia 🇦🇺. My partner and I have imported a couple of airstreams. Logistically a nightmare shipping wise, and then they have to be converted from the USA 🇺🇸 110v to 240v, and USA runs more butane in the propane than we do so there can be jetting issues for fridges and hot water and gas burners, but we think they’re great! As long as you treat em right. Retract awnings in wind or rain like you mentioned, and take a little care when opening or closing things and don’t be too much of a rough moron with em. They’re designed to be light weight so obviously sacrifice some strength whenever you do that. Great video mate 😉
great and thorough video... we’ve had our FC since 2016 and it also still looks new! yeah there have been a few issues like popped rivets, a little leak in the shower, and weirdly a window exploded when it was parked (not robbed)! but minor really, from our first two trips and all fixed right away. you can get a little tool called a Window Popper for the windows btw! (not related to our window issue - that happened when we first bought the trailer haha)
Way too many issues for the price tag. American companies specialize in taking our money, without reinvesting in better customer service and quality. We dumb Americans keep buying the products still, so no reason for them to change their business model.
I have the same color 2018 Laramie Ram as you. Mine is a 3500 but I do t care to pull a 5th wheel and I like the airstreams (don’t have one though). Is your truck a 3500 or a 2500? Great video btw
IF you are going to keep the RV for a long, long honeymoon... LOL. Then I think this is the RV for you. But if you are a casual RV person, I don't think you will ever get your money worth. Cheaper to buy a new, cheaper, RV every 5-7 years with the latest tech rather than buying an Airstream and keeping it for 20 years. That is just my opinion. OPINION. Great video, thanks for posting.
Thank you for the 1 year followup. I want an airstream to park on a friends undeveloped land in the event of an apocalypse. What would this thing be like if there was no water, septic, gas, or electricity for years? Would it be a problem, for instance, to have candles and open flames inside? Or is there a lot of flammable interior materials? Any thoughts about this?
The newer units have less flammable materials than the older ones that had some wall coverings and drapes. Normally open flames in any RV is a problem but you are talking TEOTWAWKI so go for it. All things considered they hold up pretty well sitting for years, I'm always seeing old units up for sale that have been sitting for 20 or 30 years. Unusual question for Airstreams but appreciate your comment. Thanks for watching.
dont be silly. the apocalypse isnt for another 3.5 years. turn from your sins to Jesus for forgiveness and forgive everyone else for thier sins against you and follow Jesus if u want God to save u from it.
@PinHookEast I had the same "dents" on a different set of Goodyear tires on a passenger van and dealer told me that was normal and I have sense read the same thing. Thanks.
@@JackHunnicutt Im going back a few years now and showing my age , the original Michelin X radial tyres did suffer the uneven tyre wall but i have not seen this problem since unless the tyre had been kerbed badly thats why I pointed it out sorry my wrong but that tyre would be for spare only on my airstream.
I know that airstreams are iconic in the camper world. I watched a video on the different things you have to do to open windows and and awning, you can do this you can do that make sure the power is off so on.there is a lot of maintenance to the trailer. It’s a beautiful trailer but it’s not for me. The less I have to do the better, I’m an old man. I would for get a lot of that. But I heard they are one of the best trailers out their.
The Airstreams are a great product but have many of the same issues as other trailers. Refrigerators , stoves , heaters , water pumps etc. needless to say externally the aluminum body is superior that’s why there are so many old ones around and hold there value so well . Interior wise there are other trailers out there just as nice if not better but the Airstreams are nice . The question is are they worth close to double other trailers size wise with multiple slides such as Lance , Arctic Fox , Nash 4 season trailers ? That is the one thing I don’t like about the Airstream is the room , there are only so many ways to fill the tube , making it longer just means you walk through more of it . Overall they are great trailers
We also had an issue with one of the Grass cabinet latches. It would come loose and I would snap it back in place only for it to come loose later. I took the cabinet door completely off and found that the two hooks on the end of the latch was spread too far apart. Took a pair of pliers a gently closed the gap a that did the trick.
Way too many lock ins and lock outs for Airstream not to take corrective action. I'll be making a video in the near future on this so please subscribe and stay tuned. Thanks for watching.
Great talk- we are glad we purchased our used AIRSTREAM- after looking at 100’s of the competition we couldn’t agree with you more that the AIRSTREAM is worth the extra money 🍻

@@LandingZoneHome try some Blaster Dry lube with Teflon on those sticking windows I use that stuff on everything it works great locks, hinges, seals, slides Etc.
I am really trying to understand how anyone can say it holds its value.....I mean it is a depreciating asset. My wife and I looked at a flying cloud, and it was like $110,000 and change, and a 2 year old flying cloud was around 85K at a dealership. So in 2 years it lost around $25,000 in value.....there are a lot of nice 2 year old or newer options for that $25,000 loss.....I am not sold but they sure do look nice. I just can't justify that being a 6 figure purchase, if I were mostly living out of it that would be one thing. Right now we do not own a camper but are thinking about getting into it.
Just wondering if that 110K price was sticker or after discounts? This really is one of the sticking points potential AS owner have; is learning how the value is retained unlike other brands. The numbers tell the story when shopping pre-owned units. Thanks for watching and appreciate you comments.
To fix your window seals so they don't stick, clean the seals very well and then treat with this This is 303 Rubber Seal protectant. It isn't the same stuff as regular 303 vinyl and rubber conditioner. Your door should close perfectly without a real hard slam. If it doesn't it needs to be adjusted. Usually all that is required is loosening a few key screws, whacking the door jams with a rubber mallet and torquing the door to fit better. It seems like a primitive way to adjust the door. But they are built solid and this is the way they are adjusted at the factory. Your cabinet hinge is very easy to fix. It just snaps back into place. You sort of slide the back portion into place first and then press down on the front portion to snap back in place. The European hinges are designed that way and are very sturdy. You don't have to worry about those cabinets wearing out.
Hi there! Enjoy you're informative videos, for sure. Residing in New Hampshire, my wife and I have been Airstreaming since 2008, initially in our 2006 Safari 25RB and now in our 2015 Silver Cloud 25FB. Regarding your disconnected upper hinge on your left sink cabinet door, the remedy is simple. It involves a carefully study/inspection of the hinge on the opposite door, where it is attached to its mate. Once you have determined the location of the face plate in relation to the back plate, all you do is come in slightly from the back of the cabinet, hook on the back plate attached to the cabinet frame & snap the face plate in place, in a forward motion towards you. My wife previously had the habit of opening cabinet doors too brusquely and, consequently, would disconnect the hinge(s). I have learned to reattach them without any problems (as she has learned to be less brusque in opening the cabinet doors). Regarding the door, ours works just fine. One important factor to keep in mind is to ensure that the screen door is firmly attached/snapped to the main door prior to closing. This very important for the door to close properly. Like yourself, we love our Airstream and would never buy any other type.
Haha, I am a student of Deming's thinkings and he may have coined that phrase I'm not sure. Anyway Hope I didn't appear to take credit for its origin. Thanks for watching.
I really don't understand why they're so expensive! They seem cheap. I say that because i follow quite a few channels of people that own airstreams and they always seem to be having problems on they're brand new airstreams! I really don't get the hype! 🤷♀️
I had to do some homework they’re made in America and they just are built to last. Great shell so people can gut em and rehab em how they like. Used ones are high af too.
There's no doubt the quality is second to none in an airstream. Value retention is awsome. I love the looks on the outside. But the deal breaker for me is the industrial look in the interior and the aluminum walls inside. Just doesn't feel homey and inviting. But hey....that's just me. Most who own them love the interior and that's ok. Fact is, they are still a superior RV no matter how you dice it.
Gary, I just published a book on Airstreams and I can understand that Airstreams are not for everyone for multiple reasons, however like you said the quality and resale value are tops. Thanks for the commend and for watching.
People who think Airstream is ultimate quality will be sorely disappointed, they fall apart just like any other trailer. I will never own another Airstream, owned one for 12 years, the best day of my life was watching it being towed away after selling it...
I think the airstream is of poor quality, as your video shows those issues, and I've seen other people's videos of bad airstream quality. But why are there still many people saying that the quality of airstream is very good? The only answer I can get from this is that other manufacturers' RVs are of worse quality.
Exactly, they all ship from the factory with defects and from my research Airstream just has fewer defects. Check my channel for a video on this subject. Thanks for watching.

Very glad to hear your story, at some point I will get back to a dealership and have it looked at. Thanks for the info and thanks for watching.
Thanks for the tip, and thanks for watching.
I went from a large 5th wheel to an Airstream and yes you have to give up a lot of space to make the transition. Thanks for the comment.
What years to avoid? I’m looking at pre 2020.
Hard question to answer. Some say it all went to crap when Thor Ind took over years and years ago while others just say the quality get worse every year. For sure I would be cautious with the "COVID Years" of production when everyone was taking short cuts in materials and labor.
I learn a lot from your videos and am thankful for details. Keep on camping!
Thank you Jennifer for watching.
As a potential (very likely) future Airstream owner - the door closure issue is VERY concerning. Window's sticking is a something Airstream should have fixed long ago.
It’s all very manageable. Check out my book “My Airstream Mentor” 😀
awesome video. many thanks and best regards !
Appreciate your very kind comment and thank you for watching.
Great video. What dehumidifier do you use on your 27. I'm looking for one for my 25. Thanks Alfred
We run this dehumidifier 24/7 for 3 years now and it is great. Keeps the water off the windows, makes the heat feel much better in winter and of course keeps the moisture down in the warm months. Has a plastic tube to route the water to a drain automatically.

Great video. You are talking about quality and resale value and I think there are more 25+ year old rigs than I have seen any where other than a vintage rally. 25 years from now that flying cloud will still be camping.
Totally agree Peter, thanks for watching.
It's the outside that counts when it comes to RVs , I had bone head buddy's that always looked at the inside and judged it , whether it was pickup trucks or rvs by the inside . To me I think airstream are the ultimate rv .
I have to agree Jerry, thanks for watching.
How’s the insulation for the south?
It works very good in summer and mariginal in higher elevations in winter. You do need the second AC unit.
Thanks for the review, appreciate your attention to detail
My pleasure and thanks for watching David. If interested, my Airstream book is available on Amazon here: amzn.to/36dICAe
How does it tow? What kind of hitch and tow vehicle do you use? Is sway a problem?
I have no sway and don't even know the trailer is behind me because I have a heavy tow vehicle, a RAM 3500. I have the Equal-i-zer weight distribution hitch, the bars are a little heavy but it does a great job. A tow vehicle that "just meets" the specs will pull your trailer but it will not be a comfortable drive, that is why I have the truck and the drive is a joy, mountains, sand, mud no problem. Thanks for watching and good luck. Please watch for my book, My Airstream Mentor, coming out February 15th on Amazon.
Thanks for the video. Nice job!
Thanks for watching.
Is your door cutting into the frame? Look very close at the trim on bottom face of door. Grind about 1/8 off of trim if it is.
I will check, thanks for the tip and thanks for watching.
I just rented 2021 25ft international and for the price tag..... personally I expected the quality to be much better
Quality of assembly or quality of materials? I suspect a unit that is a rental may be living a hard life if you know what i mean. Thanks for watching.
@@LandingZoneHome I was the very first person to use this unit. They were still removing the stickers when I went to pick it up. The build quality and materials wasn't what I expected a $107K trailer to be, and it really has made me reconsider purchasing.
@@dw9501 Sorry to hear this, I currently have a Quality Survey running on FB Airstream Addicts and with about 100 responses so far the results are quite different. But thanks for your posting and good luck with whatever decision you make.
We have a 27' FBT Globetrotter than we love. You mentioned a dehumidifier - what brand/model do you use? Thanks for the informative video.
We run this dehumidifier 24/7 for 2 years now and it is great. Keeps the water off the windows, makes the heat feel much better in winter and of course keeps the moisture down in the warm months. Has a plastic tube to route the water to a drain automatically.

Do they sell a boot for the wheels to keep people from pulling up and stealing these when your away?
Thanks for watching and yes they do make wheel boots. Check this one on Amazon. amzn.to/3gIIP3r
glycerin works for keeping the rubber from sticking. inexpensive and available at most drug stores.
Thanks for the tip.
How would an airstream hold up in an Alaskan winter?
I wouldn't think any RV would be ideal for that weather, I know I would not attempt it. With temps down to the 30s or even 40s the interior skin gets very cold. Hope this helps and thanks for watching.
Through away those wheel locking devices before you bend your axles. 6:20 time mark
Is that the X-Chocks.... The key is to not over tighten, moderation and I rarely use them any longer. Thanks for watching.
What kind of vehicle do you recommend to pull your Airstream with?
Hi Richard, I pull my 27FB with a RAM 3500 single rear wheel, I already had this truck from the 5th wheel I previously owned. It is a little over kill but is great. Up to 30' Airstream you would be fine with any 1500/150 with the largest engine with 30' and over go with a Heavy Duty truck. The more the tow vehicle weights the less sway. I'm not big on using SUVs except when under 25 foot models. You can tow with many vehicles but it may not be save and the ride will be uncomfortable. Appreciate you watching and please look for my Airstream book coming in February.
@@LandingZoneHome Thanks for the prompt reply, I currently have a large SUV & big motor,, but I guess a PU would be more appropriate !
For the price of these campers, you could simply rent a condo wherever you decide to go, and live there for a few months out of the year!
All sounds good except there is no resale value in renting :) Thanks for watching.
Very interesting in the differences and glad to hear from a viewer down under. Thanks for your comment and for watching. Stay safe and happy camping.
great and thorough video... we’ve had our FC since 2016 and it also still looks new! yeah there have been a few issues like popped rivets, a little leak in the shower, and weirdly a window exploded when it was parked (not robbed)! but minor really, from our first two trips and all fixed right away. you can get a little tool called a Window Popper for the windows btw! (not related to our window issue - that happened when we first bought the trailer haha)
Appreciate you watching Amy and you may want to check out my Airstream book. amzn.to/3hXFcsN
Are the popped rivets a easy and cheap fix? I’m just wondering because I’ve seen that happen on other airstream review videos.
Way too many issues for the price tag. American companies specialize in taking our money, without reinvesting in better customer service and quality. We dumb Americans keep buying the products still, so no reason for them to change their business model.
Lovely video. We've been rv'ing for 10+ years and just recently switched to Airstream and so far are in love 💕 !

I have the same color 2018 Laramie Ram as you. Mine is a 3500 but I do t care to pull a 5th wheel and I like the airstreams (don’t have one though). Is your truck a 3500 or a 2500? Great video btw

@@LandingZoneHome ❤️ yes mine is a SRW to.
Some very good comments and thank you for watching.
An underground bunker might be a better idea than any RV in the event of SHTF.
dont be silly. the apocalypse isnt for another 3.5 years. turn from your sins to Jesus for forgiveness and forgive everyone else for thier sins against you and follow Jesus if u want God to save u from it.

Also, Airstream hold their resale value better than most all other RV brands. Thanks for watching.
@@LandingZoneHome no question about it , that’s what makes them timeless .
I'll give this a try, thanks for the tip and thanks for watching.
I don’t like the door either. When I have company I only close the screen door.

"Cheap, fast and good!" I have that motto and story framed on my desk!"

" Added a lock, which was a pretty cheap upgrade" That just tells me it's very easy to pick open.
I believe he said it didn't have a lock on it so they added one to secure the battery, not because it was a simple lock to pick.
To fix your window seals so they don't stick, clean the seals very well and then treat with this
This is 303 Rubber Seal protectant.
Thanks for the tip.
Good job!
Thanks!
I’m sure that you checked this but maybe your vent fan is overheating because the vent cover is still closed on the outside of the trailer?
Yes we did check to make sure it is open but thanks for the recommendation and thanks for watching.
I'll give your suggestion a try. Thanks for watching.
From the bottom of my heart thank you very much for the review.

I really don't understand why they're so expensive! They seem cheap. I say that because i follow quite a few channels of people that own airstreams and they always seem to be having problems on they're brand new airstreams! I really don't get the hype! 🤷♀️

great video. Thank you for sharing your honest experience! hello from Toronto, Canada
Thanks for watching Paul.
Look perhaps at the Classic line , it’s more grandma grandpa Style
People paint them white inside
People who think Airstream is ultimate quality will be sorely disappointed, they fall apart just like any other trailer. I will never own another Airstream, owned one for 12 years, the best day of my life was watching it being towed away after selling it...

we had a new airstream...the "skin" on it was bad and started pitting ....It was not good quality for the money
Sorry that happened, hope your warranty helped. Thanks for watching.
