- If there's one thing I've learned over the years as a wildlife and bird photographer, it's that you need to continue to try new things to improve. I've photographed Greater Sage Grouse for years now. It's a species that I'm extremely familiar with, in fact, I've probably spent more time with these magnificent birds than I have most other animals. Each spring, male Sage Grouse put on an incredible display in their attempt to lure in any nearby females, and each spring I set out to observe and photograph this unique behavior. I've had a lot of success with these birds in the past, but this year I decided to try something very different from what I'm used to. And let me tell you, this is my new favorite method to photograph these birds!
Follow along with me this week as we take a look at these breathtaking birds and the stunning landscape that they call home. Join me on the Sagebrush steppe as we explore new methods to photograph these Grouse and get some of my favorite images I've ever taken!

Very well done! These birds are just awesome and one of favs
They really are outstanding, already counting down the months until next year!
Superb images and video of the grouse. Great idea - grouse won't care of smells.
Thank you Ott, I'm so glad the plan worked out! I hope you're doing well and getting out with the camera!
Great idea Jimmy. Now you just need to set it up on a floating platform and you can sleep with the ducks. Might need a little anchor for that. An old Canon body might do the trick.😂
😂😂 you know the best part, I've actually considered doing that, minis the old Canon body 😆
Stunning images and video. Those breath shots maybe the best I have ever seen
Thank you so much Richard! The conditions were absolutely perfect for breath shots, I've never had them so good before!
Thanks Jimmy. Another of my favorites. Used to see quite a few Sages around Leadore, Idaho. Not so many anymore. Look forward to your next episode.
Thank you very much, Terry! It's sad how much the various populations seem to be declining. Many of the leks I used to observe are now completely silent each spring.
Great idea, I'm surprised you haven't done that all along!
I know right, what was I thinking 🤦🏼♂️
Thanks...still on my bucket list.
Thanks so much for watching! I've got dates for next year listed on my website if you're still interested 😁
Great video Jimmy, your new method is very successful and looks like a lot of fun. Some great footage of a really beautiful bird. You have also become quite a seamstress, great job on the blind. Have a good week and I am looking forward to part 2.
Thanks a bunch Keith! Who knows, maybe I should drop the photography and start a career as a tailor or something 😂 Thanks for the support!
Well done. Appreciate your ingenuity.
Thank you very much, sure appreciate it!
awesome video
Thank you!
Muy profesional
Thanks so much!
That would work for me but I'd have to leave the blind before the birds got there to void my bladder
Haha 😂, that's what the empty bottle inside is for 😆
