Im not sure you guys don't already have a video similar to this, i know the buyer's guides kind of get into this territory, as well as your cheap baits videos. But personally i would love to see a dedicated complete beginners guide video, maybe something like 100$ worth of baits to just go out and catch some bass in the most different situations/ best value for your dollar type of video. I've been fishing all my life and have a decent collection of gear, but I think it would be beneficial to a lot of people
"How to Bass Fish on a Budget" - April 2021: ua-cam.com/video/cAEyoCuGXCs/v-deo.html . Hope that helps a little. Good luck out there! Edit: Apologies if you've already seen that one; will leave it linked in case some others haven't .
Senko curly tail worm shakey head 2.8 keitech on a Kool baits Ned rig and drop shot you will catch fish ANYWHERE none the less I'm sure it's under 100$
" Sarge" Great video as always. I am a 71 year old guy, still learning tricks about fishing. that is what makes fishing so great. Love your channel, keep up the great videos.
I never "buy" what these youtubers promote but I trust in these guys. I've caught more fish this year in the hardest lake to fish for me ever since I've been watching these videos. Thanks guys, I really mean it
This has helped me so much, I have both styles of water around me and this helps so much to determine what to use between the two. Thanks for the great video as always, love your way of helping others and way of showing how it’s done. Thanks so much!
Spot on talking about the transition to hard cover. I've got an area on my local lake where the fish move less than a hundred yards from brush piles to a big shell bed when the weather gets slightly cooler.
Again, freaking amazing video and information Matt. I can’t stress enough how I envy your knowledge. I would pay good money just to fish with you one time in my life. I’m retired and love this sport but can’t get to the water enough. I fish Chickamauga when I do fish but just can’t get up that way enough to learn anything much about the lake. I live in Rome, north west Georgia, about a 100 miles away. Sorry for going on but yeah man y’all’s videos are incredible. Thanks for sharing.
All good baits, all good applications, hard to believe that we're talking about the month that transitions us from summer in the Northeast to fall. For everyone up here in the Northeast That means snow is literally 4 months away. But it also means my favorite time of year to fish for smallmouth is right around the corner and that's the fall feed.
Thank you, Matt, great stuff as always. You and Tim do an amazing job of rolling out a huge array of high-quality content for us; your efforts are very much appreciated. By the way, Tackle Warehouse is having a sale right now. Just saying. :-)
Awesome Matt, thank you! Not only do you and Tim give great tips, but you give us confidence with these baits and patterns before they even hit the water 👍
Found some of those world minnows at my local tackle shop earlier this year and picked up a pro blue. So far I’ve liked it. Even ignoring the flash boost, it’s a good bait. Good action and suspend. Been throwing it on my Steez AGS 6’9” M Universal Light paired with a Steez CT SV, usually with 12 lb fluorocarbon. Super fun to catch fish with the whole system.
Great video sir , you guys are the real professors of bass fishing . Have you ever thought about writing a book over bass techniques? I think it would be a homerun .
Well done as always. For what little it might be worth, on the clear midwestern, grassy natural lake that I fish, the Missile D Bomb has also been fantastic for me, Texas rigged or on a shaky head producing when other standby creature baits have not. Your recent shaky head video prompted me to turn it loose one afternoon off of my pier returning three bass in the arc of fan casting.
You're not kidding about the School Bluegill Archelon. Easily one of my favorite creatures. Also, the body has a hollow cavity. And right under the bait's 'antenna' there's a tiny hole where you can slide a worm rattle. And they never fall out.
These videos always help me a lot, so thank you both for these! I would love to see a video detailing how to flip reeds. I deal with a lot of fish deep in reed pockets and would love to know about how and what baits to flip in there without getting hung up with the line over top of the reeds.
Love the video Matt I'm waiting on that Tactical wake video and wakebaits vid 👌🏿 stay tuned TB I will tag yall on underwater video of the Tactical Wake mine come in today 😃😃
That Shower Blow has been super productive for me this last few weeks. All three sizes are effective, but the size of the bass are relative to the size of the bait.
Literally went fishing friday evening exactly what i took according to my lake was a topwater walking bait , Texas rig pit boss and the dropshot with a roboworm caught about 15+ fish
Matt, I have found that a 1/8 ounce chartreuse ball jig head with a bandito bug or something like that with a reel lift let fall and reel works great on Douglas Lake in the shallows.
Matt....we are old buds going way back. But I'd love to see you do a vid on a tannic lake. I used to fish the Delta and CL. Now my main lake is a small lake in AZ but it's tannic. Something you guys really haven't covered... Come play again out here in AZ and you have a place to stay! Deacon(the kickboater)
Very helpful video. I have a jerkbait suggestion, 6th Sense Provoke. It's caught me some big bass, especially this year. A spring 4.5 football spotted bass, and a couple of 5 largemouth.
That paca from net bait is killer I like the same color you like the Okeechobee crawl and then I also have another one I'm not sure the exact name of it it's more red on the bottom with green puppy on the top it does really well for me too
Great job as always Matt. Fishing has been rough in Southern Florida in July as bass appear to be lethargic and deep. I have not caught a largemouth (only peacock bass) for a month. Since I have been fishing actively the last few years, I note July and August are the slowest months of the year. I have tried everything but an underspin lately so I will try one this weekend 😉
I'm in Orlando and I got one last week fast reeling from deep points with a ribbon tail. But it's been tough. Most of the catches I've seen are on shiners.
I need to ask you 2 a couple questions. I'm a largemouth kayak angler here in the PNW up in Washington. I'm normally fishing stained water, up shallower, fishing large mats, flipping emerged cover/ vegitation. This next week I'm going to be camping at Riffe lake. It's a smallmouth lake. It's a clearer water lake, steeper banks, deeper depths 200ft plus, concrete damn on the west end, and from what I'm seeing not alot of shallow cover. It's going to be 90s-100 temps that week. Now I'm not used to targeting smallies, and i don't have any crankbaits that run deeper than 9ft. My questions. #1 what 5 (or so) bait categories should I be using in your opinion, and # 2 what should i be targeting? The damn? Creeks? Points? Deep structure? Rocky Ledges? Shallow rock banks? Current? Color line? I'm just familiar with smallmouth behavior at all and I know they tend to act a little different. I already know what the bait fish are in this lake but it's a big lake and I just don't know where to start.
I throw black trick worm on Texas rig 3/16 year round and pound out bass. I’m not a tournament fisher so I can keep it simple really. My local lake don’t have schooling mass that pop the top early in the summer mornings like other lakes. So I never have any luck on top water. I used to throw a mini torpedo back 20 years ago when they would school/ jump at the top of the water. But now they don’t do it here idk why
Do you have pads or grass? If so, try this: lower that weight down to about 1/8 or even 1/16 , change worm style to a "speed worm" (substitute your favorite brand) and roll it back at or just under the surface. I'm in Florida; this is an absolutely fun way to fish on top. Bonus is, you can slow the retrieve down and fish the entire water column. Good luck out there!
it would be so tight if yall worked out a TB bundle deal with tackle warehouse where they just put all these together by your monthly recommendations and then had them available as a monthly package!
Matt I'm fishing low land res .no grass no docks no bluff walls no color line some rocky banks no laydows. What would you look for to find these fish I suppose they stay a little deep on the breaks.
Please take me fishing on my home lake I want to see how you guys break it down. Its Norris lake a highland reservoir couple hours north of you guys… please!!!!
Just caught a nice 4lber on the Molix sneaky frog absolutely destroyed it! Hit the frog so hard it turned it inside out not kidding knocked the hook completely out of it
Hey Matt I saw you talking about the paca slim on a Texas rig, I’ve been using the 3 inch paca slim with a z-man 1/10 finesse shroom ned head and absolutely killing them all July, especially spotted bass. I will try the 4 inch version on a t rig and I also want to try that t mac from NetBaits
Do I get a aldebaran 30 or 50 for jerkbaits. I save 130 dollars by getting the 30 vs 430 for a 50. Are vision onetens too heavy for the 30? I think they hold around 50-60 yards of 10 lb flouro vs the 75 the 50 holds.
Not sure if you guys are aware but there has been someone replying to the comments posing as tactical bassin. They give a phone number and ask you to DM them so you can win prizes. In the comments it shows up as a reply without your logo but when you click on it then they have your logo
It's an absolute nightmare to keep up with. We've been eliminating them all day every day but a few have slipped through for short periods before we get them. If you see them please report the scam and let us know too. We'd hate for a single person to fall for this scam!
I'm fishing an oxbow that has docks on 1 side with lots of cedars on the opposite shore. Deepest part is 28'. At the ends of this lake are areas that have thick Lilly pads and it varies from 4ft to 1.5. What would you fish those pads with?
Thank you for the time you guys put in, was wondering what the expride b extra extra heavy rod is about, up to 17 oz ? I've bought a whole line of exprides after watching your videos.
Matt: I have a question about a topic that is confusing for me. Pro Angler Hank Parker says he attempts to match his spinner blade colors with the type water he's fishing: nickel for clear water, and gold for water that is stained. He also likes the Indiana blade as a compromise between the Colorado and Willow blades. I live in an area of the deep South where the water is not clear. So, if gold spinner blades are best for my water type, I don't want to waste money buying spinners with nickel blades. I'd like to hear your take. I know that Colorado and Indiana blades make the bait ride higher in the water column. Therefore, I'm confused not only about blade color, but when to use the different blade types and combinations thereof (e.g., willow with Colorado or Indiana, etc.).
I always wondered whenever you guys post top 5 baits for each month, is that only apply to largemouth bass? Or can it work for smallmouth bass as well?
Hey Im looking for a suggestion. My 9 year old can throw a casting rod but we just fished our first tournament and I think with the excitement it was a struggle a lot of the day with backlashes. My question is, to minimize frustration, going to a spinning rod for frogs I'm I better getting him something like 6' heavy, or 6'6"-7' med heavy spinning rod? Looking to spend $100 for the combo, maybe a little more depending. Thanks!!
I am a huge spinning rod guy; I throw a MH spinner instead of a M baitcaster. Far from ideal for frogs, especially here in the Florida vegetation, but I think with proper tackle / frog / location selection, it could be done. I've had a go with frogs on spinners but am much more comfortable with a baitcaster. Heavy power spinning rods are not that common. I think St. Croix, Dobyns and Temple Fork for instance make them, but probably most of the ones you'll find are higher-end and / or for saltwater and may not hit your price point. That being said, I own a 13 Fishing Fate Black MH extra-fast action spinner (about $80 retail) that I like; but that XF action may not fill your bill. Also look at the Defy Black series. The Defy Black has 24-ton blanks, the Fate 30-ton. I don't own a Defy Black, but I do have a Defy Silver UL that I like a lot. A Defy Black MH lists for 59.99 as I recall. I assume you're using braid. Matt has said he likes the 13 Kalon O Blackout spinning reel. I don't own it, but here is the video Matt did about it: ua-cam.com/video/sIy0M5_n3qs/v-deo.html . Bonus: he also profiles the Spro Bronzeye 40, which might be a good frog for a spinner. I also recall the Daiwa Revros getting some love in a "budget combos" review somewhere along the line. The Defy (baitcast version) and Kalon "Blackout" are mentioned in this one: ua-cam.com/video/QE2vm7eL2PQ/v-deo.html . Wish I could help more on reels, but mine would eclipse your price point. Obviously, I suggest you try things out before you buy: to check balance and to see if your 9-year-old can handle it. Hope that helps a little. Good luck out there!
There is one bait Tried and true I fish every month all year. Caney Lake hell any lake is the Zoom Chartreuse centipede. Fished with needle waits or split shit for bottom It's the last soft bait you'll ever need 4" 1lbs -8lbs largemouth catches.
I really need to keep the flash in my mind. I fish out of a kayak and have nothing for a fish finder yet. So I just go where I think there is fish and fan cast until I find them. The flash will help.
Does anyone else have random lines in the video description showing up with a strikethrough on them? Not sure if it is the video or something weird on my end but seems to be happening on all their videos for me now and never used to.
I see the strikethrough when I view the video description and I'm not signed into youtube. As soon as I sign in the strikethroughs go away. Log out, reload page, they come back.
@@tacticalbassin I did not see these at the time, but I see them now. Curious. I saved a screenshot if you'd like to see it. I am signed in, browser is current.
If that question is for the Peanut Gallery, I will offer that I have caught some fish on Googan baits; the Bandito Bug is probably my favorite. They catch fish, but I find that they tear easily.
They have spoken to that in some other videos. What they typically do is NOT do a video from ICAST, rather they grab the most interesting things they find, test them and then feature them in a gear review. It makes some sense, really, as a lot of things at ICAST are being seen for the first time, so it's impossible to do a true "review" of something you've not been able to test. I'm looking forward to seeing what they found this year. Good luck out there!
A few of us have pointed this out to them. It does not seem to affect everyone. I did not see it the first time someone mentioned it, but then I did the next time I looked. Odd thing.
Been watching you guys for a while now and noticed you've never mentioned a single Googan bait. What are your opinions on their products? I've found they're not the most durable but damn they seem to work.
Im not sure you guys don't already have a video similar to this, i know the buyer's guides kind of get into this territory, as well as your cheap baits videos. Yes! It’s one of my favorite rods! I have a Shimano Scorpion MGL on mine and it’s perfect!
Thank you Matt.

Would you use a underspin over a drop shot in stained water for finesse fishing?

I always wondered whenever you guys post top 5 baits for each month, is that only apply to largemouth bass? Or can it work for smallmouth bass as well?
It can work for smallmouth too. Often times we even include more finesse-type offerings... those definitely apply to smallies.

I noticed that the Shimano WM does not vibrates like the Jackall.
How do you chose color.I been trying till I find what bites.
So far you're the only one to report that issue. Perhaps you're an update behind on your browser 🤷♂️ If others jump on we'll certainly look into it.
I see the strikethrough when I view the video description and I'm not signed into youtube. As soon as I sign in the strikethroughs go away. Log out, reload page, they come back.
@@MrHippiedeath interesting, I am signed in. Tried signing out and signing back in but same strikethroughs. Weird.
@@tacticalbassin I did not see these at the time, but I see them now. Curious. I saved a screenshot if you'd like to see it. I am signed in, browser is current.
Good information
What combo do you use for the under spins?
I thought jerkbaits were dead of winter only?
How can I not want a bag of baits when they're named " Smallie smasher" lol take my money!
Matt do you prefer the 55 or 65 Frog size?
Have you guys tested any googan baits? If so, what do you think? They're all over UA-cam... curious what some data driven guys think about them.
If that question is for the Peanut Gallery, I will offer that I have caught some fish on Googan baits; the Bandito Bug is probably my favorite. They catch fish, but I find that they tear easily.
Awesome information as always !! I just have a question , did You use weight on the soft bait ?
Are glidebaits effective during august?
So what u say is true. We just got our first three cooler night up here in Minnesota in the 60s . Do the fish start their transition?
When the cooler nights begin you'll start to see a transition from fish in grass to fish on hard structure.
Great vid Matt. Speaking of texas rigging, are you pegging that 3/16th weight when flipping around grass?
If the grass is sparse, unpegged. But if it's thick and cumbersome for the bait to slip through weightless, peg it.
For the Texas rig, (if not flipping) pegged or no pegged weight?
If nothing to get hung up on the fall, unpegged.
Are you guys putting out an I CAST video?
They have spoken to that in some other videos. What they typically do is NOT do a video from ICAST, rather they grab the most interesting things they find, test them and then feature them in a gear review. It makes some sense, really, as a lot of things at ICAST are being seen for the first time, so it's impossible to do a true "review" of something you've not been able to test. I'm looking forward to seeing what they found this year. Good luck out there!
@@oldeschoolbob1022 ya I was just wondering because last year there was a video about the gear that caught attention
3/16 is my absolute go to Texas rig weight choice has been for years
why do some links have a line through them?
A few of us have pointed this out to them. It does not seem to affect everyone. I did not see it the first time someone mentioned it, but then I did the next time I looked. Odd thing.
Matt when you're talking about hard jerk baits you're playing with my emotions brother
Why is August transitional? I thought September and October were the transitional months?
Thanks!
If you're in a region where the first cool night's hit at the end of August, the start of the month and the end are shockingly different.
I'm in Florida; our transitional periods between summer and not-quite-summer are called "cold fronts." 🙂
Thanks!
Been watching you guys for a while now and noticed you've never mentioned a single Googan bait. What are your opinions on their products? I've found they're not the most durable but damn they seem to work.
🗑
Don’t see the cool baits in 1/4 oz.
Thanks
Check again, it's just not in every color. It's offered in the colors we're using.
Thanks Matt
Brain fart on my part

Oh my bad thanks Matt
