- Come flying with me in America’s first jet trainer the T-33 Shooting Star. Owner & pilot Gregory “Wired” Colyer owns 3 and calls them the Ace Makers. It may be over 7 decades old now, but the military still has use for the aircraft which was originally developed by Lockheed’s legendary Skunk Works, with both the Air Force & Navy contracting Colyer & his fleet as an instructor supporting training at Edwards AFB Test Pilot School & Patuxent River Navy TPS, as well as supporting Air Test & Evaluation Squadron VX-23. He also flies them at air shows around the country each year, wearing the colors of the 51st Fighter Group from the Korean War.
The aircraft has a storied history which you can read about in my story in Warbird Digest Magazine here - warbirddigest.com/product/iss...
This video is from a photo / video shoot we flew with all 3 of Colyer’s jets together over Lake Berryessa is central California.

Thanks for taking us along for the ride.
THREE t-33s! Too cool! I've only ever seen one fly at a time
Looks like you're earning those pics at 9:30! Always amazing how something can be so fun and so tough at the same time
Trying to maneuver a camera-even a phone camera-during a loop in a T-33 is not an easy thing. Awesome shots!
Beautiful shots Mike! Very impressive, love these old Korean War jets
Love that sound! Great video Mike!
Thx Bruce!
Extraordinary
I loved that little hot rod of a plane. In 1972-73 I was stationed at Cannon AFB with the F-111's. Our squadron Commander got flight time in each month in a T-33. We only had one and I loved working on it. It was simple and easy maintenance. If I remember correctly, just four bolts and you had the tail fuselage seperated. 👍 Edit: Now after watching the video I've got to give you props for keeping it together going vertical and inverted getting those great shots. Awesome talent. Thanks Mike
Love these stories, thanks for your service. I hope to produce a book one day with such stories to go with my photography - educating & inspiring & keeping the history alive. I’ve flown lots of warbirds over the years but there’s something special about the T-33, it played such a major role for so many decades. Thx for watching
@@MikeKillian I was stationed @ HAFB, 15th ABW Hawaii in late 70's - 80. I was a life support specialist and we had several of these that flew target for Hawaii ANG. I was offered "observer" status and anytime a pilot couldn't make a flight due to illness or other duty, I was able to take his place. It was F fantastic. The pilots were cool and always let me strap in up front.
This video just answered my questions to the jet numbers
There is a shell of one of these at a park near us. I know almost nothing about them but I am intrigued
What makes the stall warning sound in flight?
I wonder how it would turn out to restore mod one of these like a car from the 50's-60's, throw a modern engine in it with modern flight controls etc....
