What's crazy is I was in the audience as an extra when they filmed this..I was 18 yrs old and somehow we snuck in. I remember seeing Don Johnson and he was so freaking gorgeous in person...!
...This was a rarely unmentioned pivotal moment in TV, when an assassination (on a pregnant Woman, no less), is actually carried out on Sheena (as Caitlin); that was TABOO as hell, to show on TV..."Miami Vice' broke the mold of Cops, not always following, protocol 'by the Book' mannerisms....Sonny got his revenge, but, lost his professional Integrity; a precursor to Shows like "The Shield" "NYPD Blue", "Twin Peaks", etc...VERY stark visuals, in the final shot, too (3:22)....

This episode redefined what a cop show was capable of. When she gets shot, and then later when Sonny finds out she was pregnant, my friends and I who were watching this knew something was coming, we just didn't know what. When he shot Hackman down, all you heard was a chorus of "OH SHIT!!!!" To our knowledge, (and it's never been disproven), no cop had ever shot down a man without being fired upon first. When Sonny pulled the trigger, it opened a whole new view of things. Best episode of all.
Just happened to be looking for this episode now. Actually, something similar to that happened on Magnum P.I. (in case you don't know already)when Magnum and his Army buddies had a run-in with a Soviet agent out of their past. This involved the brainwashing of T.J. and the death of a mutual friend. At the end, Magnum blew the agent away in the woods.
Actually, as Sonny walks away, you see a gun in Hackman’s hand under the paper, on the table next to him. Sonny was justified! Magnum was not....but Ivan killed Mack. “ Ivan, did you see the sunrise?” BANG!
@@alsre84 , they wanted to film it with no gun for Hackman, but the studios wouldn't allow it. The continuity of that scene doesn't show his hand on a gun at all until the end. Bummer that the original couldn't be shown.
What makes this scene so tragic and heartbreaking, is that the audience is cheering and screaming; while being completely OBLIVIOUS to what happened... Damn, smh.
I remember watching this Sophomore year of hs Spring of 1988. Season 4 compared to 1 went a really dark turn. It was a fun plot line to follow. Ironically Miami Vice would open the door to another franchise, GTA. Hopefully GTA VI which takes place in Vice City AKA Miami, I am hoping they have a side game that is tribute to this show. Good show all around 1984-89.
I still remember seeing this on tv the night it originally aired. My brother and I both watched the show religiously, and we were both just in shock that he'd actually killd her. It was a powerful episode.
This was a wonderful yet sad episode. I know we're not supposed to second guess things but I find it hard to believe that Detective Sonny Crockett would not have noticed the red laser beam from Hackman's gun in time to save Caitlin 💔. He was looking in that direction
@@LicencetoWho Yea, I wish they would have brought his son up later in the series. Angelina died, her brother took the baby and it just disappeared, sad.
@@melissagahn I always had the idea in my head that they should have done a Miami Vice film around 1998-2001 where Tubbs finds out his son is still alive and he gets Sonny to help him find him, he ends up being a drug mule.
@@LicencetoWho That would have been good. I wish that would have tied that loose end with Tubbs' son up and not left us hanging. But a TV movie or a series even, would have been a good idea. I would have watched it. :)
This is my second favorite episode of the series. This was the beginning of the end of Crocketts demeanor from a cop trying to bring justice to coming close to becoming what he despises. Well scripted episode.
This 2 part episode was the only Miami Vice episode I watched when it originally was airing. I recent found MV on Esquire network, and Deliver Us From Evil was the first episode I caught. I remember thinking 'he sees the lazer, he knows something is wrong, he'll save her' until the moment she hit the ground.
Was just watching this onDemand and thought it was chilling that part of the lyrics in the chorus was "cross my heart and pray that I won't die", considering what was about to happen to her. 😥
Did Sheena wear wigs during her Miami Vice appearances? If you look at footage of her throughout 1987, including the video she made with Prince in June ("U Got the Look"), her hair was starting to grow out into the way it would appear during her "The Lover in Me" era. Sheena filmed her appearances on Miami Vice in the fall of 1987 and March 1988. There is no way her hair could have grown long that quickly by the end of '88.
...weaves, dahh-ling, WEAVES! ...ha-HAAAA!! ...she cut her hair ULTRA short in March 1987 (after the "So Far So Good" Video); then was dying it brownish- red, and adding 'pieces' (the Prince Video)...she dyed it jet black during the "Miami Vice" filming, and went full WEAVES during "The Lover In Me" Video - era...... (cont.) ....when Sheena hosted "Friday Night Videos" (with a Diana Ross- wigged Debbie Allen), Debbie said, "...Girl, I LOVE your Hair...is it, 'yours'!?" and Sheena replied, "..Of COURSE it is, the receipts' in the DRAWER!" ...HA-HAAA!!
I take it there was no encore…just joking. the writers knew how write emotional death scenes…Lou Rodriguez, Larry Zito & Caitlin Davies were all gut punches
If you like Kult TV from this time and used to watch Knight Rider, that maybe where your confusion arises - Michael Knight married his sweetheart Stevie in the last part of a Trilogy and she stepped into the path of a bullet meant to kill him and died in his arms just after the wedding ceremony was performed :(
@deadsmoke13 but it will be one he'll regret when Crockett learns of what could've been with Caitlyn (*SPOILER ALERT* She was seven weeks pregnant when Hackman killed her)
A shame the rest of season 4 wasn't as good as this. Once season 3 went with the darker tone and eliminated the "music video" element of the show, it was the beginning of the end. I still say that if they had stuck with the formula from the first 2 seasons and saved the darker stuff for season 4 or 5, the show would've lasted a little longer.
Have seen Miami Vice in the 80,s. And have all episodes on dvd for years. The series where much better than the movie. I,ve seen the movie, it was nice but did,nt have any of the cult and vibes of the tv series. Frank Zappa, Sheena Easton, Phil Collins, Jan Hammer.
Tameka P Hackman (the shooter) thought Crockett killed his gf when it turns out during the shootout she was killed by a stray bullet by Hackman, so Hackman wanted Crockett to suffer

Michelle, this was filmed at Mansion Nightclub in Miami Beach, right? It was known as 1235 back in the 80s, right?

One of her best ballads... Caitlan Davies Crockett

The kicker just came back to me: Ivan tried to convince Magnum he couldn't do it because of (paraphrase) his American sense of fair play.
