Mom: "Just try really hard to pay attention" Me: Ok. Ill try. *Thinks about paying attention then realizes I was thinking about paying attention rather than actually doing it*
I have autism and ADHD, and whenever I talk about how stressed out I feel, all the teachers are just like “do you know how stressful my life is, as a parent?” And even though I know being an adult is really stressful, it still hurts for a teacher to compare their life with yours instead of trying to console and comfort you. Edit: Hey guys, so I made this comment in the middle of 5th grade. It is now summer and once school starts again, I’ll be in 7th grade. I’ve done better and learned how to mature, tysm for all the support through my tough time! Edit 2: Ty all for coming out and supporting me, 700 likes and 28 replies is a lot. I’m a quarter through 7th grade, and I love when people reply and I’m reminded of this comment. This is my favorite comment I’ve written because it shows me how 700 PEOPLE like what I said, which means, in a way, 700 people are here for me. Thank y’all!
I hate it when you tell someone your issues and they go, damn that sucks well I have it worse than you feel bad about me, makes you feel like a real piece of shit, like you are supposed to feel bad about having issues
Yes, thank you! They stated at the beginning that there's a myth that girls can't have ADHD, then proceeded to bring only hyperactivity into it. That's part of the reason girls aren't as diagnosed! Because it's more likely for them to be inattentive or express hyperactivity via "being chatty".
Exactly, I am diagnosed with ADHD but I'm literally the opposite of this video. I am literally calm all the time and definitely not hyperactive, but I definitely get distracted very easily.
"You're smart, you just need to try harder." "You just need to try and focus." "I think it would be a good idea to try to become more organized." I've heard this from almost every one of my teachers. Coincidentally, the *one* teacher I've had who also had ADHD was always understanding and never said something along these lines.
When I was in 1st grade my teacher was horrible and I’m pretty sure I had adhd back then too (wasn’t diagnosed at the time) she told me ‘to concentrate’, mind you she was bad for literally everyone in my class so :/
I hear this from only one teacher. The one with ADHD. We’re learning this math that I’ve been learning since 5th grade (I transferred to another school district so different learning plans etc.) and I STILL don’t know how to do it. I do it the same way I always have, estimated the lengths and got an F. I told him I don’t know how to do the math but he refuses to teach me.
I always get the “she has great potential and will do well if she tries harder” on every single report card since 2nd grade and it’s fucking annoying. I’m in 10th grade now btw
@@soso3792 I'm in literally the same situation you are in. Only I've been getting them since the 1st grade. (My dad has an IQ of somewhere around 155 and my mom ALWAYS uses that as a reason as to why I should apply myself more.)
Victoria Davis Damn, just because someone is bright doesn’t mean they or their kid can’t have a neurological condition. I’ve had a few signs start showing from 1st grade, but it only manifested into chaos when i was in 2nd grade, and the situation got worse as the years went by.
I love that you added the “Teacher” part. In my family we all have ADHD from my Grandmother down to my smallest child that was also diagnosed with Autism. Both are now being linked. I’m pretty sure I am also Autistic. I suffered so much in school. Teachers hated and abused me. I’m glad there is more awareness today, but I hate how now everyone wants to have a disability because it’s trending. If they knew how hard it’s like to live like this… I have had depression since 6 yrs old and to this day have never taken any meds to help and have managed so far without it. My son declined to keep using meds and both are also just dealing with the help of school IEPs. Teachers made fun of my child instead of understanding his condition. And they were cruel to me.
THIS IS MY LIFE LIKE IN THE 7th GRADE THIS LITERALLY HAPPENED Me: not able to concentrate on finals Teacher: hey focus Me: thinking (oh wow I can magically focus now) that was sarcasm
Honestly I do all of these things and I haven't been checked by doctor.. Ive been sent to mulitple groups for "socializing" and I left the class every time.
I was diagnosed with ADHD since my teenage, spent my whole life fighting ADHD. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder. Not until my wife recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Much respect to mother nature the great magic shrooms.
YES very sure of Dr.alishrooms. I have the same experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD and addiction and Mushrooms definitely made a huge huge difference to why am clean today.
“Just focus!” “It’s not that hard” “Everyone else understands!” “Your just stupid” “You have nothing going on in your life” “Your being annoying!” All things I’ve been told, it hurts.
The man who diagnosed me said that AD(H)D is most commonly undiagnosed is girls, He said that it's because girls are naturally multitasking people, while boys are naturally more likely to work on one at a time, so it's more noticeable that they can't pay attention, For example; you might notice that a boy is picking up different hobbys, then dropping the last one, But if you saw a girl with multiple hobbys, you might just think they have more than one, I personally, have noticed that things I do in every-day life are influenced *by my ADHD!* For example; watching videos. I've noticed now that I tend to get bored very easily, so I jump from video to video rapidly, Some manage to hold my attention because they are like storys, story's manage to hold onto my attention because they give me tidbits *constantly* So I always have something to think about that is close enough to the plot that I don't get lost in thought, Audiobooks are almost as good as reading it itself, I prefer holding the book in my hands, but listening is fine, I also noticed that I'm much more picky with the kinds of games or books I like to read, with games; I've found that I'm not interested in fighting games, more specifically the one where all you do is fight, as long as there is an immersive story I like it, With books; they have to have an interesting description/cover/title, otherwise I'm not really keen on reading it. I've also seen that I'm not that big of a fan of slice-of-life or other genres like that, I'm much more of a fantasy person. Any way, I've probably rattled off too long, hope this helps!
Wow its really cool to read about another person like me. I have ADHD but I did not get diagnosed until I was 23 and in graduate school. I have always been really smart and gotten good grades but I had to try super hard to be there. I also had an uphill battle when it came to getting diagnosed because people would ask how i wasn't diagnosed yet. The answer is honestly I grew up in low income neighborhoods so my mom had to HOUND the schools to get me tested for dyslexia while I showed signs of it in all my classes so anything else was out of the question. But on top of that I was home schooled from 3rd grade until college. When I finally got to see a psychiatrist for my ADHD she took one look at me and called me the poster child for ADHD. But between that time I learned so many coping skills including focusing on stories. I love reading though I find it had to sit still so I find a incredible story and focus on that though they are few and far between. I love video games but the story has to be solid or I am just not into it. When I go to bed 90% of the time my mind is racing so I have to make up a story to relax it and let me sleep. I have also found music useful to drown out the distractions but again I have to be picky.
Crystal Animates nah my mom is the same way too I think it is at least partially an ADHD thing because I haven’t met anyone who does it who wasn’t but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist.
I have a brother with adhd, and he currently has the same primary teacher I had when I was younger. I couldn’t be more grateful for her. She understands that my brother has adhd and struggles focusing, so she never gets on at him to much. She knows when he’s struggling and made a small den in a spare and unused classroom for him to sit in when he’s stressed. She always keeps a friend nearby so that they will be able to talk to him if things get out of hand. She has been the only teacher to point out of my brother actually had a rough day so that my mum (and sometimes me aswell) could help deal with it. All these small things had actually helped my brother and he’s had a great year mental health wise, and I’m so thankful that she is his teacher. Apparently she might be moving up a year and my brother could possibly have her next year as a teacher, I really hope he does. That teacher has always been my favourite, and that’s just one of the reasons.
These comments are so relateable its not even funny. Im not sure if I have ADHD or not but I'm very bad at paying attention to everything in classrooms since like 1st grade. I don't pay attention, I fail all math assignments given to me, and I'm just always either running in the halls or yelling at people I don't like. Sometimes I can't control my anger either. I end up getting detention or just sitting in my classroom writing a 2 page paragraph about my behavior.
*_Everyone:_* Just pay attention more. Stop fidgeting. Dosent meditation help with it? Are you even listening? *_Me, just now realizing they are talking to me about my ADHD:_* What?
this video is really giving back how much I had struggled with when my ADHD was really bad when I was a child, but after a lot of treatment and training I got to control it a bit better now. sometimes it's worst than other days and a lot of people back then when I was just starting going to school didn't understood it, neigther did the teachers. they would only mock me or scream at me when I wouldn't listen oder couldn't anser questions that I did not understood. so I love to see that people can learn more about ADHD if they don't know what that is and what it dose to someone
I have adhd and when the doctor told my mum, she just told me ‘having adhd is just a label to help kids get out of doing stuff like homework.’ and until I was older I believed that adhd wasn’t a real thing and that I should never tell anyone about my adhd because it wasn’t real and I would be laughed at.
I’ve been diagnosed with ADHD and good lord I remember the days when my teachers would yell at me all the time and it really affected me overtime, for example I’ve become afraid to talk to teachers or ask them for something, I used to think I was just stupid and would never learn anything because no one would have any patience with me.
My first grade teacher was a really bad person, she even got fired some years later. Since my parents helped me with reading and writing before I entered school, it was spare time for me. I just did what I wanted to, finished the activities quickly and play some more. She yelled at me because "I wasn't paying attention", even if I already finished the activities. I couldn't even ask a classmate for a eraser because she'd say that I'm distracting them. I had to learn how to lie and hide my "blue notebook" (The blue notebook was a notebook for the teachers to communicate with the parents. They'd write down any excellent or bad behavior.) because she'd write that I don't do anything. She damaged my self-esteem badly ;-;
Honestly yeah I went through that too, but you have to realise that you need to make your teachers your bitches. Make them love you, or make them work for you as it is their job, don't feel bad for grabbing their attention because they will be teaching you no matter what or else your learning will be impacted.
2017 sucked ASS for me back then, it was like a daily routine for my 8th grade teacher to yell at my ass for 2-3 minutes straight and make me feel useless. The worst part of it is that none of my friends asked me how I was feeling afterwards. I've lived with ADHD my whole life yet I don't ever get meds.
ignis meza ouch. Sometimes I would cry after I get yelled at. I’ve had it since I was born also so I know how you feel. For some reason though I don’t cry in front of my friends, it’s not cuz of the stereotype it’s feels weird to me.
I'm not confirmed ADHD yet, but my doctor gave my parents a list of places to go to get me tested for it because we're all starting to wonder if what we thought was my Anxiety disorder might actually be ADHD or something else, but this video actually helped a lot
Me : I can't focus, stand in place, organizing myself, I think I- My parents : WHAT DID WE SAID?! PAY ATTENTION !! DO YOUR WORK!! YOU'RE SO LAZY!!! Also my parents : Why don't you talk to us ?
I’ve been diagnosed with ADHD for 3 years and I’m sick and tired of one of my teachers who always gets mad at me for not paying attention and always throws the “Why can’t you pay attention” I cried because I was and still am sick of this stupid disorder.
Im pretty sure I have adhd and i want to get diagnosed not because I want to be "quirky and different" but because I really need help (therapy and/or meds) because i can't deal with it anymore. I'm tired of not accomplishing what i want to accomplish and not living up no anyone's expectations. I wish my parents believed me and tried to get me help instead of thinking that I'm just lazy and forget to do what they ask me all the time
“Stop being so annoying and loud all the time” “You always make careless mistakes” “Pay attention” “Tell me what I just said” “You are so unresponsible” “Stop making excuses” Everything I can remember I’ve been told that sticks with me
best thing to respond with is to the complete opposite and stare her directly in the eyes or "you think i haven't tried that? stop being hungry ITS NOT THAT HARD"
I was once yelled at by this girl sitting in front of me because I was bouncing my leg, I tried to tell her nicely that I can't help it and she said *"Just stop, it's annoying!"* I really don't like her and I want to punch her. *public school yayyy, where everyone is highly misinformed and don't know anything!*
As a person with ADHD, I HATE when people say “just try harder” or “you aren’t even trying to pay attention”, like dude, c’mon. It’s not that I want to lose focus, it just...happens. Like, I’ll be writing a comment or something and I’ll lose focus...and...uh...is that dog? Oh cool! Lemme take a picture! Oh, new recommendations on UA-cam, uh, just one video, okay just one more. *an hour later* Okay, what was I trying to say? Oh yeah, people with ADHD aren’t trying to seem like they don’t care, we just kinda lose focus a lot. And I’m speaking on my experience with it, not for everyone. This comment is so cringe.
OH.MY.GOSH! I can so relate to that last bit! Like I’ll be watching a video then I see another video that I wanna watch after the video I’m watching and I think: “well I will remember to watch that video.” Then I forget about it 12 seconds later.
Story of my life: they blame everything on the phone and me not being outside enough even if we were originally talking about something at all similar in the slightest
Grandma: “You’ll go blind if you keep staring at that Tablet!” 10 year old me: “Sure grandma.” - 4 years later - Grandma: “Wow look at that! It’s so beautiful!” The thing known as “that”: (4 feet away) Me: *” You’re telling me that blue blob is beautiful?”*
I’ve had ADHD for as long as I can remember, and for a while I didn’t understand it, about 5 months ago I found this really good Chanel called “how to ADHD” it helped me out a lot, so to anyone out there struggling I definitely recommend!
But to be fair, I’ve been dealing with ADHD my entire life and I’m tired of “professionals” that listen to me for ten mins and feel like they can make a diagnosis. Yes, I have anxiety, but I don’t JUST have anxiety. Mostly, I have anxiety as a RESULT of suffering from ADHD. Not the other way around :/
There’s people I’ve seen who literally go “oH i HaVe AdHd BeCaUsE i OnCe SpAcEd OuT dUriNg A bOriNg LeCtUrE bUt BeCaUsE iT’s JuSt OnCe MiNe iS pRoBaBLy MiLd” Dafuq bitch I’ve been struggling with it for all 10 of my schooling years in all aspects and you say shit like this???
But sometimes when people self diagnose, it's a cry out for help saying "I think something may be wrong with my brain chemistry". And a certain mental disorder may fit the bill to them, like ADHD, Dyslexia or Autism Spectrum Disorders. They're usually young people, and are probably too afraid to tell their parents because they've been shut down by them or ignored and neglected by them. Quite possibly they have these disorders, but no one wants to believe them, because it's easy to believe that the way someone acts is just their personality or upbringing rather than a mental disorder. No one in my family wants to believe I have anything but Depression and Anxiety, but Dyslexia, OCD, ADHD, Torettes, it all runs in the family. Self diagnosis is sometimes the first step for adults with undiagnosed mental disorders who have struggled all through school under the radar.
Thanks for this video, i am getting myself diagnosed soon for ADHD, because i find it hard to concentrate,, easily distracted, and very fidgety, this video made me feel alot more comfortable about it and remind me that i am not alone. Thank you Psych2Go!
As a girl with adhd, my teachers often get on to me for not completing assignments at home. It’s really rough because they don’t understand how detrimental ADHD can be. I have so many missing assignments because of it. Also can confirm my medication makes me have zero appetite
me too, i’m on concerta and tho it helps me have more energy to focus, i have no appetite and my doctor is worried bc i’m losing weight but my meds are kinda working so i don’t want to go off them ☹️
@@whatintarnation1230 I take concerta too, but I used to take Vyvanse (I think that’s how you spell it) until a month or two ago, which lasted a lot longer, but the symptoms of it were terrible
Man I have ADHD and it affects my life so much! Thank you for making this video so people know more about it! It helps more than you know. Personally, I’ve been on medication my whole life. I’ve gone through every kind there is, but none of them are as effective as they used to be. My friends with ADHD also had bad experiences with ADHD medication, and some research suggests that medication can become ineffective after a certain amount of time
@@Bruhbrubbruhbrubbruh adhd looks different in boys and girls, and most commonly when ppl think about adhd they think hyper active and energetic which is most common in boys with adhd and girls more commonly suffer inside, adhd in girls isn’t as prominent so that’s why girls either get diagnosed later on in life or even never bc no one thinks they have adhd bc they aren’t hyper and talkative, so that’s why girls with it struggle more with self esteem and such bc they don’t know they have adhd and struggle through life not knowing that they’re struggling bc if the disorder and that causes them to think badly of themselves, the reason i said “boys only have adhd” in the comment was bc it’s common that ppl have a perception that adhd only looks like hyperactivity, so ppl often don’t believe women have it bc they are more struggling inside their mind them open, that’s why ppl think it’s uncommon for girls to have it though girls actually have it more often, but yea, gender has a lot to do with it and diagnoses of adhd, bc doctors ignore the signs in girls for adhd
@@whatintarnation1230 im afab (assigned female at birth) and show every single sign of hyperactive adhd. There are like three types of adhd (hyperactive, inattentive, and a combination of the two) and though it's more common to find females with inattentive adhd rather than the hyperactive one, it doesn't mean that they don't exist. Same goes for people who're amab (assigned male at birth), it's expected of them to have hyperactive adhd and even though many of them d o have hyperactive adhd doesn't mean that none of them would have inattentive adhd.

Once my teacher said "stop playing around and pay attention" and I said "I am paying attention" and she said "okay well what was I kay teaching" and I resided a whole minute of her lesson and her face was priceless 😎👌
As a person with ADHD my parents/teachers always say: we tried everything, why is nothing changing? Why are you moving too much? No need to be stressfull were here. If you have adhd then why can you focus on computer? youre acting weird I always hear these it hurts. I wish i was normal like others. I try really hard to be successfull beceuse if i don't win the exam next year i will go ti a trash school and wont be able to get a job. I tried so many meds, so many hospitals, so many therapists just to get away from adhd. I still go to doctor twice a week and i hope some things change. I dont want to be a disappointment
It really triggers me when people self diagnose themselves with ADHD. I was diagnosed really young, and all these middle schoolers are just saying it to reason with their bad grades, or to sound cool or "edgy"
My diagnosis was put off until I was 16 (aka this year) because my parents dismissed my inattentivity, forgetfulness, disorganisation, lack of motivation and tons of other shit as mere “behavioural problems”. I also thought they were just that and thought my 2 minute attention span and EXTREMELY bad short term memory were normal. Then when I looked up the term ADHD randomly when I was 15, I realised that my struggles matched ALL the symptoms on the inattentive list, and a big part of the hyperactive/impulsive list. So I begged my parents to let me see a psychiatrist, and when they didn’t listen I visited a counsellor. I got my official diagnosis this January and turns out, yes, I do in fact have ADHD. I have literally heard people going “oh I have ADHD because one time I spaced out during a boring lecture but because it’s just one time so it’s probably mild” like bitch no wtf. I’ve been struggling with it severely for all 10 years of my school life and you say shit like this?? Not cool
Kombat Kitty Honestly the only reason I say I have ADD without a proper diagnosis is because my mom, dad, and brother have it and I express pretty much all of the symptoms except a few of the hyperactivity ones. I never actually knew how ADD really impacted me until I dug deep into some research and found out what it actually was. My mom just said it was a different way of thinking and never went into all the negatives of it so until recently I had no idea why certain social aspects of myself seemed so different compared to everybody else or why it was so hard to just do some of my work. I didn’t really know how people with ADD often take things harder or in a different way than others. It led to me feeling kind of alien in a way, but, hey. At least I know more about it now. My parents both believe me to have it so maybe it’s not really a self diagnoses? Everybody else was diagnosed and they didn’t take me because they didn’t think I needed meds because I could kind of contain my grades in the “decent” area.
@@soso3792 Omg same. I'm 17 now and I'm trying to see a psychiatrist I was always very forgetful, unmotivated, can't focus, day dreaming, can't finish tasks, would doodle in my notes before id even finish mu work, stop faking notes half way, zone out, gets excited for one thing but then get drained out and move to another etc etc. Teachers always got mad at me for day dreaming, my mom got mad at me for not finishing tasks and chores and my friends called me dumb cause I can't focus. I really hope I can get better.
I’ve researched adhd a bit, tell me if I’m wrong, that being distracted by something else is usually when you think of it as boring or uninteresting. (You get what I’m saying? Even I’m confused by what I just said...)
I am not diagnosed (hoping to determine a diagnosis soon) and I don't have a problem staying in my seat but I get very frustrated if I'm in the same place for a long time without stimulation.
@@xtonibx5770 I thought that too until I realised I was forced to sit down for school and had kinda trained myslef not to move..? But then online school came about. I'm sorry, I dont mean to be rude, but I kinda curious about something. Does adhd makes you crazy and being an asshole to anyone like how gabbie hana explain??
I really like this comment section. Its one of them places where you actually kind of accept adhd in yourself. Like yeah, its kinda okay, yeah its kinda nice
Me: *bounces* My mother: are you okay? Me: I have ADHD. It’s normal. My mother: *slightly aggressively* Have you been taking your medication?! Me: ... I don’t have ADHD medication. My medication is for anxiety.. you should know this. The conversation went something like this. It was pretty bad.
@@aubrey5577 I really wish I could speak with your parents and convince them not to do that, especially if it isn’t what you want. Maybe try to tell them about the physical bad stuff? If you need some more information on what it’s like to be physically effected by adhd medication than I can tell you. I took it a very long time ago and it resulted in me having a tick and it sucks.
My mom is like the exact opposite: Teacher: She has so much potential! If she was medicated then she would exell in my class! My mom: Ok I'll take her to a doctor, but I'm not medicating my child. My nephew has adhd f I hadn’t watch his video I would still hate helping him with homework or studying, now I completely understand. This video actually made me want to help him more than I usually would.
Omg this is the exact same reason I was watching this video. My nephew has adhd too and now I will try to be more understanding after watching this video
As a peraon who was diagnosed in 1st grade with adhd I think this is stuff everyone needs to know and I think this is a great video. And I want to share my story. Throughout school and most of the time until 1st grade I had trouble learning.l; I would stress at school and dozens off or zone out during classes, and had trouble understanding anything really. I remember having to stay up with my parents until midnight to work on schoolwork and just struggles anyways. The worst was speed multiplication. We started multiplication quite early and this way of teaching it didn't work for me. We were give an page of 20 multiplication problems and 3 minutes to solve them, you would go through 10 levels of multiplication, one level for each number 1-10. Every time you got it right you would move on to the next number. By the end of the year I got to 6 and everyone else was making fun of me. Up until 1st grade the school tried to tell my parents I was just stupid and had no mental issues despite my parents wanting to get me tested for autism or adhd, since autism is common in my family. The teaches supposedly didn't want me to be tested by their recommendation as apparently they would have had to have paid something to make the school accessible to me like have counseling or something. They changed their mind after 1st grade. I had all F's and was being held inside instead of recess again for 4 weeks in a row. I had piles of homework from all my teachers and my teacher was getting annoyed with me, so I had an impulsive panic and thought ripping up all of my papers would fix the issue. Immediately after I ripped it up I regretted what I did and broke into tears. I then gripped onto the bottom of the table for an hour, and after the principle tried to peel me off, the principle talked me into letting go and heading to the office. They called my parents, told them what happened, then recommended I get tested for adhd and autism. After that I got onto medicine and was an A and B student until high-school in a different school. I recommend that if you feel like you have adhd or autism or any other mental disabilities, to tell your parents and ask to be tested, even if you don't have any disabilities atleadt you know now.
Natalia Paredes there normal side affects but eat before you take the medicine because I didn’t and I never ate my lunch only dinner and my stomach hurt because I didn’t eat
i once took meds.... yeah it gave me a major emotional breakdown so i don't do that anymore (also, the meds given by professionals in my country have been called off recently, due to finding out those were practically drugs and now everybody tries to find them on the black market and a few dealer friends of mine asked if i've still got my meds, and if they could have them so nah)
i really loved this vid. i actually subscribed ur channel!! as a 14 years old diagnosed with adhd, depression and many other mental problems, i really loved ur vid as its something i can actually relate to. i have started taking meds for adhd it actually does affect my appetite and gives me nausea. i loved the fact that u made sure to tell what parents and teachers must do. i always did heard all my things like "u r genius just need to focus" or "u r so messy try being organised" i really loved how u made me feel related to this part. i even agree with the fact about disorders and genetics being connected. side effects of meds are actually serious i feel like cuz when i take pills i can concentrate whole day but it effects my appetite and even has a bad contrasts sometimes with my sleeping meds. i know i'm quite late in finding ur channel but i'm happy i found it. thx
I get really annoyed at my dad somtimes, he’s said “kids with adhd are just affected by the system of life, school made them that way and they are fine” which makes me want to yell at him
Child: * sitting on the school bus * Child's brain: *do you think you can jump out of that window without hurting yourself?* edit: Child: * washing dishes and picks up knife * Child's brain: *what if you stabbed yourself?*
You hit a big tip off there, adhd often causes*risky behavior* Bi polar illness does not. Ask ask ask your friend/familyember/patient about risky behavior. Only the RIGHT meds help adhd, meds for bipolar illness only make you feel more hopeless, cuz they won't work.
Just gotta say, not because you can't sleep or you stare at a mirror for long time you have ADHD. It could be insomnia, depression, or you could just be a night owl, etc. I recommend you to go to a therapist and not self-medicate
Usually what people assume is laziness is mental exhaustion There are a lot of things that I don't feel like doing, and sometimes it makes me think I'm lazy But every time it happens I'm also dealing with like 5 other things It's not your fault It's not your fault It's not your fault
Or making yourself pay attention that you actually don't pay attention to whats being said anyway. You spend the whole conversation going 'look at their face, watch their lips, ignore the things around you. Focus.'
Idk who needs this, but here: I've struggled with ADHD my whole life, and reading books is hard for me. I was put in special reading classes and stuff to "fix me." For years, I just thought I was stupid because I couldn't focus on reading. Then, I found a book series called "Warriors" by Erin Hunter. The books are very immersive and engaging, and I can *really* focus on the story. Since I found the series, it's all I've read. I went from being in special reading classes to being in Advanced English because of the books. I *really* recommend them, and if Warriors isn't your thing, Erin Hunter has many other series' that might peak your interest.
I’ll check it out! Personally, I love reading and my ADHD puts me in the zone. I’ve read a whole book in one sitting and supposedly, a good friend of mine was talking to me the whole time and I had no clue lol.
I basically didn't learn anything till i was diagnosed with ADHD in primary 4 then after i started getting help At the risk of sounding imodest I became one of the best students in my English class and my teacher said my test score was way above average 👌🖤🖤🖤
This video has some great advice for people with ADHD, (myself included) and has very accurate information about even little things like how you mention that our appetites are thrown out the window when on medication. Awesome video!!!!

Man f#@k some meds I was misdiagnosed with ADHD (I have ADD) and that stuff made me a veg for two months, I was ten and 60 pounds because that meds were not only made for ADHD people but people that fell asleep a lot and had a binge eating disorder, this bit rarely ate or slept
My sister has ADHD and ADD. Whenever she is given a lot of work and feels stressed, she will do like a page or a half of one then watch an episode of one of her favorite shows. Then she continues this until she is done with all her work. It lets her finish work on time while also giving her breathing time. This has improved her working habits sooooo much.
@@Psych2go I have three mental disorders asd ADHD and OCD and I'm occupied all the time but in class I just stare into space sometimes also when I get bullied to much it doesn't go to well with some of them hehe.. I also tend to break things when I get angry
I know a girl with ADHD. She's a lot of fun to hang out with, she always has something she wants to do with me, I'm never bored when she's around and since I'm a massive introvert it's fun to have someone to follow around for a change. I wouldn't say she doesn't eat much but she eats a lot of junk food, I tried explaining to her what would happen to her if she kept eating like that but she doesn't seem to care much about the future. Also, her room is a real mess. Imagine any teenage girl's room and multiply it by 5, it's that bad. Other than that I find her to be really smart and creative, she loves signing, in fact she's always signing something when she's not talking to someone.
I love that you love her. It's quite important to treat such people with care. Be sure to check the following link to see if there is something you can do to help her out- www.cyh.com/HealthTopics/HealthTopicDetailsKids.aspx?p=335&np=285&id=1553
I've also ADHD. I can make my room messy in 1 hour but it takes me at least a week to clean up again. I've rent a house and my rule is one messy room out of the 4 is fine and it sort of works for me. Cleaning up my mess is something I don't like to do, cause I know how fast it gets messy
Cant people with ADHD be introverts? Or lazy? Just asking, because I am both and I might have ADHD and not sure yet if I should test it And also my room isnt messy, but thats probably because of my lazyness, I never make it messy, but I also never clean up my mess if I make one, idk
@Tara H I wouldnt say ocd, but I am a BIG perfectionist. But I am lazy and have a lot of concentration problems, all of that doesnt fit together at all, I know. I am not messy in my room, but for example I am not organized at all. I often forget where I put something etc. But because of my lazyness I am not doing that much, so I only rarely even create a mess :D But with things I like, I am interested in etc. thats the part where I am a perfectionist. While playing games keyboard has to be in an exact position, when sitting it takes me an eternity to get the chair in the right position, when creating levels in certain games (I really like creating levels) I am only satisfied with the result if everything is structured. But because of my lazyness and concentration problems I NEVER managed to finish a level lol But back to my main question: Does a diagnosis help? Would it help me to know if I have ADHD? Does the medication help (my concentration problems make school really hard for me)?
@Tara H Thanks for your answer. I guess, if I get tested and maybe diagnosed with ADHD, the doctor would probably know what I can do to deal with my problems (even if I dont have it), so I guess diagnosis would help more, than just having the answer if I have it, right?
Think it is important to point out that AdHD isn't a deficiency. It's a diversity in neurological development. Meaning the person is not diminished in any way, they simply exceed in different forms. They have just as much potential as "normal" kids/adults. We just need to find our own box to fit in since society made a mould that doesn't fit us:).
FOR REAL THO. When I tell this to other people they just come with the typical phrase of ''You just dont try hard enough''. And I'm just sitting here like: TRYING SO HARD WAS EXACTLY THE PROBLEM WDYM
Yes this is true.... if someone annoys me constantly I will yell at them.... and we don’t think before we act. And I will want to go up and slap them very hard but i just about control that part
I’ve been doing as much research as I can about ADHD ever since my friend, who is a psychiatrist, told me I should get evaluated for ADHD. I’ve been doing research and it’s got me crying and relieved that maybe this is why everyday life and focus is so difficult. I never thought that I’d have the possibility of having it because I’m great at math and I love reading but then I realized I didn’t do my assigned reading or homework and was scolded by teachers often. I was perceived as lazy and irresponsible and I never went to a doctor to get it checked. I just believed it. I don’t have health insurance quite yet and I’m looking to see what the cost is for evaluations. I know it’s multiple visits, but after talking to my friends other friend (who is also a psychiatrist but with a higher degree), she also believes I have unrecognized ADHD. I’m 21 and everything listed is accurate. I’m kind of scared but if it turns out that I do, then it’s a big weight off my chest. My self esteem is so low because I believed myself to just be a mess of a person. I’ve always thought that if someone else had my problems they would do much better than me. My issues are difficult but they’re not impossible. I’m the one making them impossible and it’s my fault. Or so I think, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
Marifer Morales Good luck to you! I believe you can self diagnose with enough research. When you expressed how messed up your life felt* I knew you suffered from adhd, or at least add. It's hard to make a good decision when 20options run thru your thoughts at once. Good luck!!!!
update: I finally got a job. my first goal is to get diagnosed. I've done more research since and I'm even more certain now that I have adhd. I also learned that some girls are usually something else, for example, autistic and get misdiagnosed. However, I can say that theres a higher probability of adhd, and a somewhat probability of slight autism. but thats something that's so slight it could just be personality traits and not autism at all. ADHD however, I am certain of, now all thats left is to get diagnosed so I can properly be treated.
I have ADHD (was diagnosed with it as a child before it was called ADHD) & have 4 children with ADHD. I am a home schooling mom because my kids got bullied. Until I began to address my ADHD symptoms I couldn’t effectively teach my kids. It’s made a world of difference. I can’t believe I lived so many decades feeling like a loser. I’m m not a loser. I simply have ADHD so I have some specific challenges in life. And I am ok with that but also work on bettering myself.
I have ADHD like all my siblings (i have a lot of them) and my parents. it works like this: There's a thing in the brain where if you get too excited it calms you down but if you have ADHD it doesn't work right. Medicine can help but not cure it, since it's a birth thing. I take a certain medicine where it makes my excitement levels rise until it reaches the point where my brain calms me down. You don't grow out of it. It isn't a disease. And more boys are diagnosed than girls because ADHD affects them both in different ways and the tests are set up for boys. That's what I know so far about ADHD. Just wanted to share :3
PopopamAJ unfortunately it’s like this with most disorders boys are generally diagnosed more often because it is thought that girls can hide the symptoms better
It’s more along the lines the medication for ADHD is a stimulant, like speed. Instead of speeding up the brain like it would a normal person, it calms down the brain of someone with ADHD. Just so you know
Ikr it annoys me so much this girl told me i didn't have it even though i was diagnosed and the girl said i probably have it cause i move so much! ( the girl thought she had it) and I'm like BITC-
That is why I don’t want to self diagnose myself, I am going to talk with my friend tomorrow about asking my mom if I could go get a test. I will try my best not to do this until I am confirmed to be diagnosed with adhd, I don’t want to offend anyone who has been actually diagnosed by a professional. (I did some research and saw how many of the symptoms I have, but I didn’t wanna yell: “I hAvE aDhD!” Before actually diagnosed by a real doctor.)
it's so annoying that some people are self-diagnosing themselves and thinking that it's "quirky" and "cute" and all. they just think the stereotypical ADHDer, but ignores the other shitty things about ADHD, such as sensory overload, understimulation, etc.
@@iam_sherlocked8421 I know people with ADHD who are professionally diagnosed and I they are way different from those quirky people who self diagnose and they also don't make a big deal out of it. :)
I think something I’ll never forget was when my second grade teacher told my parents I might have a learning problem but my parents didn’t want me to be medicated so I never went to the doctor (wasn’t properly diagnosed til I was 17). So since they never took me she took her own initiative to help me and asked me if all the noise in the classroom bothered me and I nodded yes so she told me I could wear these headphones while working if I was having trouble and that I could wear them during tests and she would separate my desk from everyone else’s to see if it helped me. And it did I remember doing a lot better on my assignments.
I hate that I can relate to this. I have problems with interjection, I find myself being careless with things I find repetitive, I have difficulty focusing and I either can’t focus on something or hyper focus. But my older brother has adhd so when I tell my mom “ I might have Adhd” she says “ you don’t have bad grades? You don’t have adhd” and when I say that I have issues in other areas and adhd isn’t the same for everyone she says “ I had I child with adhd, I know the signs 🙄 or “ you shouldn’t be making excuse because you don’t listen” I don’t know what to do :((
how can you blame something on your adhd when it’s a part of you? it influences what you do, so technically we’re just taking responsibility for our actions, but just being more specific than just saying “it’s my fault”
I love videos like this, I feel like it brings more awareness to ADHD. People need to learn that ADHD isn’t only not being able to focus and being hyperactive!
do you think randomly getting up and running around, punching the wall, crying for no reason , stress, lack of concentration and self harm are enough to diagnose myself with it??
@@LightningFox7 I 99.999% don't have depression probably, I always rip my fingernails and the skin on my fingers, until it starts bleeding and hurting.
@@ItsXCinnamon that's a cause of stress and anxiety then ? Cause i do that too and try to stop it. Cause it only had been damaging my fingers. Even if i still find myself doing it sometimes on the side of my thumbs. Kwjxjsj like aghhh- it's hard
People that have ADHD and remain undiagnosed are likely to also possess other mental health illnesses along the way like general anxiety and depression so yeah, I would recommend to probably go to a Doctor
Dear Psych2go, 1. ADHD has a side called "Inattentive". This is most common girls and includes daydreaming, short term memory loss, and inability to retain instruction or something just read. 2. Genetic disorder also linked to alcoholic grandparents. This often means you have grown children who break the cycle of abuse in a family but the 3rd generation pays the consequences. 3. Only mentioning children is dentramental to our issues. Though these treatment options work in adults tolerance against the drugs are built usually after 3-5 years. This leads to a 'trail and error' phase that can completely disrupt an adult life. Jobs can/will be loss, relationships broken, even loosing your home! 4. Once more you are focusing on ADHD as if it is a childhood issue. What can employers do? Well, unless you register yourself as having a disability when you apply for a job... nothing. Especially if you are in a right to work state. Running late is a constant issue for ADHDers and this is because mornings are the hardest for us before our medication has time to take effect. Many Adult ADHDers are embarrassed or are afraid they wont get hired if they apply with a disability... Also, employers miss out on the benefits of having an ADHD employee. Hyper focus is our greatest super power "normies" do not possess. If we enjoy the task we are working on we can stay on it for hours while forgetting the world around us. This includes to eat, sleep, or even use the bathroom. We can work up to 10 hours straight and complete an entire weeks worth of work in one sitting! Granted, this is also unhealthy as we can ignore our bodies. There... A little time spent on the CHADD website and you would of had this information to add to your video. The information you shared today is about 10 years behind. There is much more to add but I'm not getting paid to do your job for you.
Aimee Gray I'm glad you made this comment, I feel the same way, although I'm currently 16 (I've done a lot of research on adhd since I've been diagnosed with it at age six). Also one thing to add is that meds and behavioral therapy or ect. should be used together, not either or. (That is, if you have found a med that works for you, my trial and error was done in childhood.)
Thank you for adding this crucial information. At the age of 30, I found that I struggle with #1 the most, when at a younger age, it didn't seem to have hit me so hard, or at least I didn't notice. When I'm out with friends for boardgame night, they more often than not get upset when I don't get the rules for a game, or even a slight change in rules in games I'm familiar with/that are easy, such as Uno. It's tough to constantly have to work hard to have a structure in life and catch up to the normalcy others are used to, but what can you do.
I definitely have the first symptoms, I have terrible memory and day dream lot. My dad was telling me a story and I zoned out several times. Also (not sure if this was what you meant by the last system) but I can barely remember when I read something, I was taking a quiz and had to read the question 7 times no joke cause I kept forgetting what it was. For gods sake I had to go back and read what you had said several times too cause I couldn’t remember what you had typed out! I’ve never been to the doctor to see if I have this or not but I might go soon to see if I do.

I'm gonna be honest here, this video almost described me exactly! Especially the one with the teachers. Teachers in the past have always gotten so frustrated with me, but sometimes I'll just zone out and jump around and I feel like I can't control myself. Once I zoned out so much that I almost got lost on one of the field trips at summer camp. I've been like this since I was like a toddler. Haven't been diagnosed, and I'm kind of too nervous to ask my doctor about it...

I have autism and ADHD, and whenever I talk about how stressed out I feel, all the teachers are just like “do you know how stressful my life is, as a parent?” And even though I know being an adult is really stressful, it still hurts for a teacher to compare their life with yours instead of trying to console and comfort you.

This video really only covers the Hyperactive/Impulsive type of ADHD not the Inattentive or Combination types. It’s not always “I can’t sit still”
Yes, thank you! They stated at the beginning that there's a myth that girls can't have ADHD, then proceeded to bring only hyperactivity into it. That's part of the reason girls aren't as diagnosed! Because it's more likely for them to be inattentive or express hyperactivity via "being chatty".

I’m glad there is more awareness today, but I hate how now everyone wants to have a disability because it’s trending. The man who diagnosed me said that AD(H)D is most commonly undiagnosed is girls,
He said that it's because girls are naturally multitasking people, while boys are naturally more likely to work on one at a time, so it's more noticeable that they can't pay attention,
For example; you might notice that a boy is picking up different hobbys, then dropping the last one,
But if you saw a girl with multiple hobbys, you might just think they have more than one,
I personally, have noticed that things I do in every-day life are influenced *by my ADHD!*
For example; watching videos. I've noticed now that I tend to get bored very easily, so I jump from video to video rapidly,
Some manage to hold my attention because they are like storys, story's manage to hold onto my attention because they give me tidbits *constantly*
So I always have something to think about that is close enough to the plot that I don't get lost in thought,
Audiobooks are almost as good as reading it itself, I prefer holding the book in my hands, but listening is fine,
I also noticed that I'm much more picky with the kinds of games or books I like to read, with games;
I've found that I'm not interested in fighting games, more specifically the one where all you do is fight, as long as there is an immersive story I like it,
With books; they have to have an interesting description/cover/title, otherwise I'm not really keen on reading it.

@Marcus Senter Thanks I appreciated
I’ve been diagnosed with ADHD and good lord I remember the days when my teachers would yell at me all the time and it really affected me overtime, for example I’ve become afraid to talk to teachers or ask them for something, I used to think I was just stupid and would never learn anything because no one would have any patience with me.
My first grade teacher was a really bad person, she even got fired some years later. Since my parents helped me with reading and writing before I entered school, it was spare time for me. I just did what I wanted to, finished the activities quickly and play some more. She yelled at me because "I wasn't paying attention", even if I already finished the activities. I couldn't even ask a classmate for a eraser because she'd say that I'm distracting them. I had to learn how to lie and hide my "blue notebook" (The blue notebook was a notebook for the teachers to communicate with the parents. They'd write down any excellent or bad behavior.) because she'd write that I don't do anything. She damaged my self-esteem badly ;-;
Honestly yeah I went through that too, but you have to realise that you need to make your teachers your bitches. Make them love you, or make them work for you as it is their job, don't feel bad for grabbing their attention because they will be teaching you no matter what or else your learning will be impacted.
Same here still scared till this day
2017 sucked ASS for me back then, it was like a daily routine for my 8th grade teacher to yell at my ass for 2-3 minutes straight and make me feel useless.

Joosta_Randoom Hoom I hate it when people self diagnose. While I am not diagnosed with anything, I have had “friends” who self diagnose.

Not cool
Kombat Kitty
Honestly the only reason I say I have ADD without a proper diagnosis is because my mom, dad, and brother have it and I express pretty much all of the symptoms except a few of the hyperactivity ones.
Yea but ADHD isn't really an edgy disorder

Omg this is the exact same reason I was watching this video. My nephew has adhd too and now I will try to be more understanding after watching this video
wow, did you help him more now? after 7 months.
Dang that's rough I hope you're better now
Thanks I'm doing much better now thank you.

That is Wonderful THANKS💕🇦🇺

So glad to hear she has a strategy that works! Yes, frequent breaks always helps. :)

Or lazy?
Just asking, because I am both and I might have ADHD and not sure yet if I should test it
And also my room isnt messy, but thats probably because of my lazyness, I never make it messy, but I also never clean up my mess if I make one, idk
@Tara H I wouldnt say ocd, but I am a BIG perfectionist. But I am lazy and have a lot of concentration problems, all of that doesnt fit together at all, I know.
I am not messy in my room, but for example I am not organized at all. I often forget where I put something etc. But because of my lazyness I am not doing that much, so I only rarely even create a mess :D
But with things I like, I am interested in etc. thats the part where I am a perfectionist. While playing games keyboard has to be in an exact position, when sitting it takes me an eternity to get the chair in the right position, when creating levels in certain games (I really like creating levels) I am only satisfied with the result if everything is structured. But because of my lazyness and concentration problems I NEVER managed to finish a level lol
But back to my main question: Does a diagnosis help?
This mindset was missing in the video. Thanks for pointing out.
People: pay attention
Me: ok I will

Or so I think, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
if i never saw a doctor i wouldnt be here today
When I was evaluated it was one session. And a quick one at that.
I need an update.

Good luck to you!

Like with a learning disability such as, for example, dyspraxia, girls get diagnosed less often than Boys because they are generally more organized
It’s more along the lines the medication for ADHD is a stimulant, like speed. Instead of speeding up the brain like it would a normal person, it calms down the brain of someone with ADHD. Just so you know
1. It’s not just a birth thing
2. ADHD can cause you to hyperfocus on some things and be unfocused on others
3. My brother has ADHD like I do!
I have ADHD, I wish I could grow out of it.
The thing I hate the most is that I have ADHD, and I know SO MANY people that self diagnosed themselves when they get slightly distracted for a moment
Ikr it annoys me so much this girl told me i didn't have it even though i was diagnosed and the girl said i probably have it cause i move so much! ( the girl thought she had it) and I'm like BITC-
EXACTLY! ITS JUST SO ANNOYING

You don’t have adhd” and when I say that I have issues in other areas and adhd isn’t the same for everyone she says “ I had I child with adhd, I know the signs 🙄 or “ you shouldn’t be making excuse because you don’t listen” I don’t know what to do :((
There's a difference between a reason and an excuse

People that have ADHD and remain undiagnosed are likely to also possess other mental health illnesses along the way like general anxiety and depression so yeah, I would recommend to probably go to a Doctor
Dear Psych2go,
Tysm for making that comment. Im female, 12 yrs old and I have adhd. Everything u said is correct especially the point about hyper focus.
