I genuinely believe that life was better when programmes like this were on the telly... can't see kids of today getting nostalgic over the X Factor Theme or Game of Thrones theme like we 30+s do over lovejoy, the waltons and so many other shows. We lived in the golden age of tv.
I grew up on Lovejoy but Raman Djawadi’s music for Game of Thrones is very good. It’s not the same sort of nostalgia, maybe. Lovejoy is very much appealing to the gentler and quaint atmosphere
I agree to this one. There are many old shows i didn't see in Finland as a kid, but i've watched later as an adult and they are much better and enjoyable. A-team, Frasier, Married with children, Miss Marple, Hercules Poirot, german detective/police series. I'm quite sure i'd enjoyed them as a kid too, and that most teens these days would also. It's a shame most of the tv entertainment is so dumbed down these days. Not much clever dialogue anymore where you had know some other things that they were referencing to. Specific personal traits of some characters that made them funny as hell.
One of the best tv series ever made..I can watch it over and over, it's witty, romantic, thrilling, historically interesting, gorgeous locations and fabulous actors too..oh and great theme music! What more can one want? 😊
Contain yourself please and go have a cold shower and a strong coffe and come back here when sober ffs..."One of best TV shows ever made"..... slap yo self
I wonder, has anyone else notice the similarity between the Lovejoy theme, and, the Allegro molto quasi Presto in E major from the six melodies pour le Piano Op4 and Op5 by Fanny Mendelssohn.
Let's use this theme for Universal's THE INVISIBLE MAN (1933) where Jack Griffin is about to unwrap the bandages from his head and face until he's completely invisible and he laughs in front of the men who are scared of him being invisible.
What a supreme theme tune to an awesome series. The Best of The Eighties. God Bless Mr Dudley Sutton.
miss this series sooo very much!

Not entirely kids should be watching Game of thrones :-D

Reminds me of 9:00pm on a Sunday evening and realising I really should start thinking about starting my homework for Monday.
I was the same with glenroe
i miss this show sooo much!!! one of my favorites!
Reminds me of my childhood, before bedtime.
Same here, I remember it the same way, that theme tune reminds me of thinking, oh no school tomorrow
Exactly, lol!
Those bittersweet Sunday evenings!
Fantastic music. Written by Denis King who also wrote the theme to Black Beauty. Both fabulous.
I well remember the theme tune which is in G major. Here I would have been fifteen (the first Lovejoy series came out in 1985).
From a golden age of tv programming.
My father you used to love this show it’s one of his favorites
I’ve not even seen much of this show, but I think this theme goes harder than it has any right to.
Then David Dickinson copies his entire look
Great show and great theme.
Loved this show, it's why I became an antique dealer and restorer, would love to see some episodes, where can I find them? Anyone out there know?
I seem to recall the closing credits went on for about two minutes. Unheard of in today's fast moving televisual landscape.
I wish someone would upload an example!
Actually this is the 90s version. The series 1 intro was a bit different.
Cool show and cool theme.
Bring back ian lovejoy mcshane please
that's the 90's,2nd series...
Classic
Only one series was made in the 80's ,the first ,this is a theme from a later series in the 90 's.
Glad this is on drama channel
Grrrr great dayz!!!

One of the best. Sad I can't get all parts with finnish subtitles here in Europe.
Does anyone know what the painting is at the end of the credit sequence?
cool

They should have used this in pirates of the Caribbean 4 when Blackbeard appears.
On second thought, how about this Lovejoy theme can be useful for YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES (1985)? A good idea!👍
