With the announcement that we only have one more GT left before the trio hangs up their hats, it is worth mentioning that when this show (and top gear by extension) at its best, is not just a car show. It's a show about people and their relationship with automotive machines. Cars can amazingly be whatever you want them to be. Be it a tool, a hobby, a life saving transport or an outlet for expression. This intro sums that up without saying a single word.

But what can you expect from the bbc who had to find replacements. The replacements are uninspiring. The show would of stood a better chance of ratings if they got Rowan Atkinson to be a presenter.
I showed this to a friend whose husband had been diagnosed with cancer. They needed something to watch while he went through radiation and chemo treatments. She was immediately hooked and they watched everything several times before he passed. They liked the cinematography and the fun the three had while shooting the show. He passed last year in 2023.
This opening was so awesome it made a grown man tear up. Jeremy, Richard and James are actual friends for over 20 years and the fact they quit the moment Jeremy was fired shows their true friendship. So to see the boys reunited and back in such a heartfelt way was just beautiful.
We all are car entusiasts, doesn't matter your skin color, your creed, where you from or if you are guy or gal. it only matters that same taste for gasoline burning and listening to your car running, seeing other people projects (there's everything for everybody's tastes), I cry tears of joy watching this video! isn't only about one type of car.. in the desert part you can see hot rods, 4x4, motorcycles, exotic cars, it doesn't matter.. it's like a great family around the globe together because we all love cars! Godspeed bless us all!
He wasn't fired. Apparently he was going to be, but that would have left them open to an employment tribunal that would have been a mess. That's why they chose not to renew his contract and paid him the remainder of his term as scheduled

It's 2020 and this intro is still better than anything Top Gear has done since Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond left. I agree with many that have said it, that two minute mark still gets me every time.
Watching this now knowing there's only two specials left before the real finish line makes me quite emotional... It's been THE journey watchnig these three over the years. I've learnt and laughed so much.
My 3 moods during this video Video starts “Kinda sad that top gear is no more” James and Richards pullup next to Jeremy “Me crying out of happiness” The Intire car Communitie Driving next to the holy trio “Me Crying intensely with a big smile and giving thumbs up
This scene made me tear up with joy the music, cars and seeing three friends ride alongside together was just amazing. Top Gear has and never will be the same without them.
There's something iconic about seeing 3 cars driving on a beautiful road, the moment you see it you already know it's them. I have to admit I teared up a bit when I saw James and Richard unfold behind Jeremy's car, after hearing about the end of Top Gear I feared I'd never see that scene again, it was heart warming.
I must say the editing on this intro was spot-on. My favourite part of that is the line "Here is the rainbow I've been praying for", right over the top of the three presenters in the three different coloured cars.
What’s amazing is that Clarkson did not know that May and Hammond had signed on to be part of the show. His reaction seeing them both drive up beside him was genuinely the first time he found out and realised!

@@Dave534 Hi. But at the end of the day, The new top gear in my opinion is a failure. It doesn't have that excitement and joy the previous seasons of top gear had.
This put a HUGE smile on my face!!!
Whatever it takes
Anyone else finding themselves rewatching this and the season 3's ending over and over? or is it just me?
It sucks that the tent is gone. I really enjoyed it in season 3. At least we get specials only next season so that's good?
Yea watching this after the other announcement hurts badly
Yup i came here straight after. My buddies will be back soon.
Just saw a article that they are renewed for season 4 and maybe a 5th and 6th
Me too man
Yep, couple of years later, still tear up.
Yep. Still till this day
We all are car entusiasts, doesn't matter your skin color, your creed, where you from or if you are guy or gal. it only matters that same taste for gasoline burning and listening to your car running, seeing other people projects (there's everything for everybody's tastes), I cry tears of joy watching this video!
isn't only about one type of car.. in the desert part you can see hot rods, 4x4, motorcycles, exotic cars, it doesn't matter.. it's like a great family around the globe together because we all love cars!
Godspeed bless us all!
Yes, SIR, your words are truer than ever.
Loved it when Jeremey smiled when he spots Hammond and May behind him.
actually heart melting.
This is true friendship leaving your comfortable job at BBC to join a friend who was sacked
after jeremy was fired, that i suppose wasnt a pleasant job for hammond and may.
He wasn't fired. Apparently he was going to be, but that would have left them open to an employment tribunal that would have been a mess. That's why they chose not to renew his contract and paid him the remainder of his term as scheduled
Well I guess the BBC now stats for the British Bastard Company.
Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond may have left the world of cars in Top Gear, but the world of cars have never left them.
Most epic trio on TV, combined with the most epic comeback ever!!
Jeremy's reaction seeing his friends join him and then James and Richards smiles to Jeremy made me tear up and cry and also just everything about this first episode intro was amazing. Good job Amazon
2:00 shows the meaning of family better than all the F&F movies combined
Dom torreto is that you?
Yo are u a time traveller everybody's feed on almost every social media platform has been spammed with family for the past month kinda died out now but still on my feed
That is the greatest Opening Scene for a series every filmed. When Hammond and May pull up beside Clarkson brings a tear to your eye.
Watched this video for the hundredth time and still gives me goosebumps and tears in my eyes.
Epic.. Never has a world looked forward to the return of 3 people so much.
Horizon Festival in a nutshell
Yes but that has been declining in recent games
If only horizon would be real..
@@TheMrluke555 racewars?
This need more likes.
@@DexxonGamer77 I agree
If you were a top gear fan, it’s impossible to not get goosebumps while watching this.
Season 22 was the last season and the end of top gear
Now grand tour carrys it's own legacy but still holds strong and still has the familiarness of top gear
I honestly think this is the best opening to a show ever
That was epic
It did make me smile
"Epic" is THE word for it!
That moment when Hammond and May appear from behind Clarkson in their cars just after Clarkson smiles at 2:03 is pure gold!!!
I’ve watched this many many times but it still gives me chills… and makes me smile. A beautifully shot ode to automobiles and the remarkable people who drive them.
When Hammond and May turned up behind him. I lost it emotionally 😂
2:02 when your buddies got yo back
2:02 - 2:14 the only time we will see this three guys show their true friendship to us.
The moment grown men openly wept with happiness, not ashamed to say I was one of them...best opening ever ❤
It's still the best first episode of a series I've seen in years
It's 2020 and this intro is still better than anything Top Gear has done since Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond left. I agree with many that have said it, that two minute mark still gets me every time.
You know you are a true petrol head if you get goosebumps at 2:04 and 2:57
This intro was some seriously perfect cinematography. Defo had me teared up
Nothing will ever beat this ! This is legendary !
I was there - couldn't see Richard Hammond from the back row.
Lol hahaha that's cool that you were there
You are legendary
2:02 that was so beautiful when James and Richard joined Jeremy 😥
So we are all in agreement that we all cried
Exactly when the lyrics sings “when the pain is gone”.
Just imagine watching this as a BBC Excecutive and realising you have severely f***** up...
Watching this now knowing there's only two specials left before the real finish line makes me quite emotional... It's been THE journey watchnig these three over the years. I've learnt and laughed so much.
What a journey its been laughs n crys brother ...
From grey misery to bright, colourful happiness! What a grand opening to The Grand Tour!
My 3 moods during this video
Video starts “Kinda sad that top gear is no more”
James and Richards pullup next to Jeremy “Me crying out of happiness”
The Intire car Communitie Driving next to the holy trio
“Me Crying intensely with a big smile and giving thumbs up
This scene made me tear up with joy the music, cars and seeing three friends ride alongside together was just amazing.
Their taste of music is just amazing
I must say the editing on this intro was spot-on. My favourite part of that is the line "Here is the rainbow I've been praying for", right over the top of the three presenters in the three different coloured cars.
5 Years later, and it still makes my eyes water. Best group of car presenters I have ever seen. BBC really messed up not renewing Clarkson.
What’s amazing is that Clarkson did not know that May and Hammond had signed on to be part of the show. His reaction seeing them both drive up beside him was genuinely the first time he found out and realised!
You serious?
@@quarantinejet2312 it's bs. The contract is between a fresh company owned by the 4 (the trio + Andy Wilman, the producer) and amazon. He knew.
Lol bull💩. He definitely knew
