- Wow-wow-wow! This P811 is a rare bird, indeed. The EFI on this SSS unicorn died about 20 years ago, and here it remains. Not only is it the only one of its type I've ever seen, even pictures of them are hard to come by. This is the generation of Bluebird that time forgot.

Yeah dude, I remember my trip to japan, met a few guys outside a restaurant knew literally almost no Japanese other than basic phrases. These guys had some old Silvias and a skyline (r32 gtst). I kinda walked up to them, i was a bit drunk and i said to them "Rb20?" with a question-tive expression. a few moments later they were poping the hoods and were allowing me to take a detailed look at their cars....... Was probably the best night i had in japan hahaha.... I love people like that, watching your vid kinda gave me a smile, keep it up man! love your videos!
The Squal Haha, awesome. Good to hear. ;-)
The Squal Haha, awesome. Good to hear. ;-)
Check out that dashboard. Superb. I don't care what anyone says. The Japanese manufacturers knock out the best dashboards.
Thanks for finding this. It brings back memories.
Gordy Hamilton No worries, Gordy. Glad you enjoyed. :)
OMG! I really like the looks of this car actually.
Robin S Good. :)
What a gem. I made SSS decals for a restoration job once. I was on a big trip to Bundaberg at Christmas and got about 2 hours in, and stoped for a break. When I went to leave my car wouldn't start. I asked another traveler for a jump start. He was shocked that the battery was in the boot, anyway the car started again with out his help lol. Kind of him to give me the time of day though. I thanked him and continued my trip.
Devolution RC Nice that they helped out. The ol' battery-in-the-boot, eh? Get's them every time. ;-)

This car has potential of restoring. I'd swap out the efi to a carburetor intake. Or upgrade to a modern fuel system.
Wow that is funky Daniel ..
Taillights remind me of a 180B or 200B Coupe .
That motor is what George Fury ran in his Bluebird . They broke the old Bathurst lap record and his Bluebird took Pole in 1984 ...
GEMWRC Wow, impressive. I'd have been cheering for Brock back then, but impressive.
I think we had that model in Peru, not quite sure, but i love grandpa spec, poo brown and those seat covers, my uncles say they look really awful but i really love them. It would run if it had a J15 on it, that's from the same generation so i guess they came here with that carburated engine.
Question of the day: i remember 4 situations, strangely, 3 in japan; i said it before, but that guy from the scrapyard in fuji was a super kind guy... Who gives you a suzuki lapin grille for free? He even told me to pay whatever i wanted for the toyota parts i picked up, what a nice guy. Then the ither guy in the knife store in numazu center, when i started watching the antiques he got inside, he tried to speak to me in english and showed me his project of rebuilding an old 1940's japanese bike with his father, what a kind person, even kindier than people in my country, how weird is that... :\
taunusv4power That's really good to hear. That they made your trip to Japan so memorable is very special. Maybe they just felt they could be open with you. ;-)
I once was taking pictures of a Donkervoort S8 AT, the owner saw me and walked up to me and I asked a bit about the car and he asked me if I would like to drive with him. I ofcourse said YES and he took me for a little spin in the car.
JoranDorifuto Sweet! Good story. :)
Just love these old Bluebirds! Datsun 810 in the States, and they are an even rarer sight as most Americans lack appreciation for old cars, let alone even older Japanese cars!
It's an absolute stunner Dan! 😁 The American spec bumpers need trimming back, but otherwise a corker!
Ha! Yes, those big-arse bumpers can be a bit of a turn off.
That's cool! My story would be down in Cornwall in the UK, met a guy who had lots of collected items, old cars/tractors/lorrys/busses you get the idea, anyway he seen I took interest in the old rusty cars and other collectables he had lying around and instead of telling me to shoo off he decided to talk to me, I was young at the time and of course you don't often seen youths interested in stuff like that at all, anyway I ended up being taught how to drive that day, lovely guy let me drive around in an old Austin 7!!
drumandbassking12345 That's awesome. Had to google the Austin 7. That's extra cool!
amazing little car, wont see many if any in Japan! ;)
Gem is right! You don't see that many of this generation Nissan Bluebird (Datsun 810 in North America) anymore. I was a boy when this generation was produced. I've always liked the styling of the coupe and the station wagon over the sedan. It's too bad it didn't sell very well. It didn't sell very well here in the USA either. It had the same engine as the Datsun Fairlady 280Zed, 2.8 litre six cylinder engine with fuel injection, which as I understand, was finicky at best. The interior is in nicer condition than that of the exterior.
It was really nice of the owner of this car to let you video the car, inside and out. It's a shame that not everyone is that generous with their cars. :)
Jason Carpp Very true, Jason. A shame indeed. It would be good if more people could bond over common interests, such as cars. :)
WasabiCars So true. However boring or "bread and butter" a car may be, if it's no longer in production, and rare as they come, then people should be willing to share it with people. The interior was in better condition than the exterior. Thanks for another awesome video. :)
Had a 2.4L (L24E) in North America.
ArchetypeDatsun Did it? I thought that by the time the 810 was sold, it had the 2.8 litre six.
I'd do that car up. Swap the motor. Suspension mods , wheels, change the brown interior, paint the exterior. I think this car would be decent. Nice find Dan!
01FozzyS Thanks. :) I'd blow the dust off, hose the dirt off, add twin carbies, go to car shows. :D
Good find Dan! They where sold in Aussie as a 200B SSS, (tripple S) but that looks like a very late change over model from the 200B to the Bluebird. We never saw this car in Aussie. The Aussie Bluebird came out with the Z18 motor the 200B SSS still had the L20 motor. I think the 200B SSS had independent rear suspension, but the 200B sedan did not.
newy12342003 The technical side of things, I'm pretty clueless. I certainly don't recall seeing any Bluebirds with this front on it.
WasabiCars
You are right Dan I have not seen that front on any other Datto. I should have said, late change over model from the 200B to the Aussie Bluebird, but still the Aussie Bluebird did not have that front.

We didn't get the 811 in Australia only the 810 and badged as the 200B. It was fitted with the L20B engine. I was surprised to see the under bonnet photos of this car and see the Z18E engine. I didn't realize the Z series went as far back as 1977. The early EFI systems on cars like this where usually Bosch or JECS Systems. Possibly a J-Jetronic system. It was relatively simple and on a whole very reliable. The guy says it stopped 20 years ago, I wonder if he had it investigated at the time. It could have been some thing as simple as a EFI fuel pump or the module in the distributor. It's a shame it's been let deteriorat to that state but then again to most people a car is just an appliance. When it doesn't work any more get rid of it.
This video is your funniest so far. Love it, and all your comments abot that poor car.
tamcitron Cool. Thanks. :)
Dan, when the owner handed you the key, its a sign he wants you to take it home. hahahah
netmatrix75 Lol. I wish that happened. :)
Lol wasabigasim here as well sweet ride!! It looks like something I would try to drive daily here in the states. Cool vintage layout I love that it looks lived in such a cool find!
frotoguy Thanks, man. :)
oh come on, the car is beautiful, just imagine it freshly painted, shiny with Watanabe's on it!
AWESOME rolling vid at the beginning!
I stopped by my neighbors house today whom I had never met. He had a 1946 Ford coupe sitting in the driveway, so I stopped by to tell him hello and that I liked his car. Then he proceeded to invite me over to hang out and work on cars, which I thought was great. Most people are not that generous.
***** Awesome! NIce. :)
In the drive thru I paid for the peoples food behind me in line. As I drove off their face was like ( O.O) when the cashier told them their food was paid for. XD
A gramps-spec Wasabigasm! Love it! :D
Bhong666 ;-)
lol G-Spec
Nice Bluebird, the bumpers remind me of the huge ones on cars for the US-market ... well done video again Daniel-san !
The Sheepherd For sure! Absolute park bench-seats.
I used to have an even rarer datto, and drove it in Aus for quite a while beof selling it to a friend. Is was a 1979 2000G6 EL - 2L, L20 6 Cyl EFI. Basically a 200B SSS from the windscreen back. Slightly longer front guards ,and a MUCH! prettier front headlight and grille, although the 200b lights were interchangable. All electric inside and plush interior. I am still yet to ever see another one.
+timopheliac18 Ah, I know it (but didn't at the time I walked passed it.) I saw one, a sedan, in Yamaguchi Prefecture. ... Just found it: ua-cam.com/video/qaeWS5vgVfU/v-deo.html#t=7m04s
Close but still not quite.
If you shoot me an email at Timothy.oshea18@gmail.com I will send you a few pics.
the instrument cluster looks pretty cool!
datto240z Yep, she's pretty sharp on the inside.
Pretty cool car, i prefer the look of the front to the back, i've always loved the square boxy look :) I'm glad you do meet some friendly people that are happy to let you look at their cars, i get asked quite a lot by people if they can have a look around the funbus, and i'm more than happy to show it off :)
QOTD - only this morning, i helped an old man that had fallen over, me & another guy picked him up & got him back on his mobility scooter, he was ok, luckily, he went down on some grass.
keep up the good work Dan :)
funbus Thanks, Layton. And, good work getting the mobility-scooter guy mobile again. ;-)
Thanks Dan :)
Wasabigazm, haha i love it ! my father in laws best friend has a 510 SSS Coupe stored in his barn, the first car i ever owned, its been crashed heavily and the damage is really bad, but its the typical wasabicar :D
AfroMyrdal Oh, :(
We call it 180 B in Trinidad.
Nice to see another Trini here, I got a 180b wagon.
@@MerlinOpethdo you still have it? I have one also
@@matthewmcsween4127 yes and a 1985 Bluebird wagon.
Neat, I had an early '80s Datsun 510 5 door this looks alot like it even the color. but it was carbureted with Cal. emmisions freaking nightmare to work on, but it gave us over 300,000mi before the body gave way to much keep on the road, never quit running though.
Intensely awesome. Glad you had a good experience!
luminesc Thanks :)
Very rare car. 2 doors were hard to get. A engine swap and some body work abs it’s alive again. Good find.
I spotted it so many years ago. I wonder if it's still there. Though the front styling isn't to my liking, I'd still be happy to have it in my driveway
Yes. The square headlights are too chiseled straight and box shape. I rather the circle headlights. Interior is awesome
We only got them 2 door in 1979 ONLY with injections L24e straight 6 in the USA. In Trinidad and Tobago they came 4 door and was called Datsun 180b. 1.8 liter 4cyl motor.
I have a 1979 810 Hardtop, still family owned from new, production #739, 2.4L efi/automatic
My neighbor a while back was so nice he let me drive his land rover rock climber. I really liked it but wicked top heavy
DJGeekWolf Cool :)
I was in a Tesco car park and suddenly I spotted a Nissan GT-R when they had just came out so I walked past the car and he had seen that I was interested so he called me back over, popped the bonnet and let me sit in it. Now I have a Nissan GT-R premium edition :)
William Conway-Hyde Awesome! :D
That was a treat! It is a bit goofy looking for sure, but I kinda like it! Even more so that it's SSS Bluebird. Can we expect a video of that Subaru 360 that was next to it as well? Seems like the guy liked you! =)
As for kindness... I used to own a lot of vintage Volvo's when I was in my late teens and early 20's. Some random guy drove by our house and saw my dads 1968 Volvo 144 (4 door) and my 1970 142 (2 door) and said he had a couple old Volvo's he needed gone and I could have them for $400. I pick up both a '69 145 wagon and a '70 142 that week. He figured if someone had 2 old Volvo's they might want some more! =)
dead91silvia Sweet! Damn, and that reminds me that I really should show some Volvos. Don't see too many classic Volvos in Japan though. :/
WasabiCars
Yeah, if you could find a rusty 60's 70's Volvo, that would be awesome! I know of a few around here, but they are even getting rare around here in the USA.
Great episode
Thank you :D
Hi, no one in Aus has stated that this is the same car as the 200B coupe that was sold here, except the front on the Aus spec was the same as the sedan and it was a carby, not efi and was 2 ltr engine. They come up for sale every now and then but get high prices....$10,000 plus....I personally really like them and the 180B version :-)
Peabo Wesley Wow, that is expensive.
I like this! It looks like a Datsun 200B coupe we had here in oz, very nice! It's in pretty good condition apart from the bonnet and dead engine. The interior is immaculate just needs a good old clean. Nice find Dan. Cheers
GodZilla308 Thanks, John. :)
Wow, an 810! Don't see those very often, although on the "Datsuns For Sale" (I think) Facebook page recently, there was a very clean one for sale.
WikdSeafood Certainly don't see too many in Japan.
well first from your Facebook post i can see why this video is very satisfying, have to say I loved it. second as for kindness I cant say i remember too many moments because i don't seem to get many myself, but when I was on a plane to Japan the little kid/baby (i don't know it was something in between-ish), in front of me, dropped her stuffed animal and I picked it up for her and sat it down on her seat with her then she threw up in the planes lane I was like well then at least it wasn't on her stuffed animal felt bad for her (I'm sure the 13 hour flight wasn't easy on her either)
Keith Soukup Thanks, Keith. Oh, kids and spew and planes. No-one deserves that. :/
she was a very well behaved kid I might add I was kind of shocked. maybe the kid had a sedative before hand
extra hour for staring at a ferrari? that about evens out, i think.
love the Grampa-Spec!
Jesse Guerrero Hahaha! Yeah, even stevens. I was actually quite reasonable about it at the time (so just a little angry).
I love it! Even though I prefer zenki headlights I still love the look of this car.
And it is the second time you cover a 810! And this time a genuine "unmolested" rusty one. ;)
Are you going to cover the Subaru 360 as well?
banpeinet Yes, second 810, and in a short time frame also. I really can't compare the two as the Sasebo 810 was transformed into something completely different. No, I didn't get any pics of the 360. I just have so many examples on the hard drive... Btw, I actually sent your stuff today. I know you're gonna love it.
Nice. Back in my country el salvador I was about to buy one similar to this but was called 180B it was the SSS one with the round headlights. I didn't buy it because it was in an accident and whoever repaired it did a horrible job. I ended up getting a 1973 datsun 160J 4 doors with the L16 engine. I miss that car but had to sell it when I moved out to the usa.
It's look a great classic 👍
Thanks, Anthony. Yeah, it was great to document this classic. I haven't seen it since. I wonder where it ended up
first the car, love it love it, in the US these are called the Datsun 810 and you never see them any more here. Too bad I don't have the money or I would bring it here and put in a Bosch fuel injection system. Second as for kindness of others, well that does not happen much to me because of the way I am born, but I can remember being homeless in Portland Oregon and a stranger giving $60 and lunch.
Elizabeth Cherry Thank you for sharing your stories, Elizabeth. I doubt they're your most guarded thoughts but I feel privileged none the less. And, glad you like the car. ;-)
Love that 2 door body style so much. Ugly front end though. You always seem concerned about spiders and webs. Mate, in Japan you can relax because Australia they can all kill ya!
Worked on a quite a few of them , cannot remember they fuel injection one's though . I worked on one of those Ferraris , it had a big rip in the n/s front wing above the wheel arch , my boss would not let me drive it LOL .
bodgerd Hahaha! Typical boss. ;-)
The reason I got to repair it was I could lead fill the repair , we used to lead nearly all the repairs at the Vauxhall and Datsun dealers .
Sweet ride always like your videos
Supra Man Thanks, man. :)
Welcome brother
reminds me of an amc eagle at the front
wasabigasm ? love your videos !
LisaMHatten Lol. Again, sorry for putting that image out there. ;-)
Great. Thanx Daniel
he could put the caburetor and manifold from the US model 720 z22 engine
Story about kindness:
On December 25, 2014, I saw an Italian family looking for their hotel at the completely wrong part of Zurich - even with the GPS system in their car they could not find their way back.
After a 15' ride in front of their hotel they wanted to give me money - But I answered that it was Christmas Day and Mary and Joseph was helped on Christmas Day and because of that reason I could never ever accept money. I told them to help someone who is lost in their city
On my way back from the hotel I met a group of six Brazilians who were looking for their hotel, too. So I showed their way to their hotel, too.
Noone was left behind in the cold!
Frederick König Nice work, Frederic! Those people you helped with never forget that you helped them out. :D
Trés belle Datsun ....
Enjoy your vids mate , I'm an Aussie living in Okinawa and thinking to start a youtube channel about cars too...
Love okinawa please do the same with videos
Crazy nice...
+Rangga Bendol Thanks
Ah yes. The Triple S Bluebird. Nice car. :P
Interior looks fairly good considering the widespread cancer.
Interesting shape. I like the side profile kinda, but you're right its ugly, and there's better body shapes out there.
Never the less first time i've laid eyes on one of these, so still interesting as hell, cheers for the content mate!
LOL So hideous it's cool!! I live the bluebird!
I'm lucky enough to live in the South, USA and most people are very kind around here. :)
kcherryka Good to hear. ;-)
It is also "zed" in Canada.
***** Thank you! :)
...and 'zed' in the UK.
um... QOTD: Does donating to organizations count? I've done so quite a few times... I'm sure I've got a few stories, however! It's 8am and I've yet to have my morning coffee... Thanks for the vid, Dan! ^^
MANNY~EmberDim That absolutely does not count. Well, it does, but they take a cut. :/ Morning coffees definately count, of course. :D
Have you ever thought of buying a "wasabi car" and restoring it? Like it doesn't have to be in mint condition since I know it will cost a lot of money and you have a family, but at least making it run and able to drive it around, that would be awesome.
Sign up for Wasabi Cars' patreon! That's one of his milestones, haha. It would be so awesome if he got one
luminesc ;-)
Mac Dee That WOULD be awesome. :)
That's the real fun of going somewhere is taking the backroads and looking for cars. My best memories are of my father and I doing this! Kindness of strangers? One night I dropped my wife off at her evening job and lost control of my car on slippery roads driving home. I knocked on the door of a nearby townhouse and they not only let me use their phone to call the tow truck but insisted I take off my coat and have some hot chocolate and cookies while I waited!
Lolicat Ho choclate and cookies are the best part of any traffic incident. ;-)
Thanks for the upload makes my day! Also what was next to it? Fiat 500 and a core/Mira?
Robin Beaumont Thank you, Robin. The car next to it was actually a Subaru 360. They're a pretty common sight for me. There was even one parked next to the Subaru R2 from the video the other day.
so thats how the one from sasebo one looked bofre it got boso treatment, cool :D,about qotd...i cant think of anything right now lel, next time :D
bosozokuGRED Yes, not that it's easy to tell. ;-)
kada vez me encuentro mas datsun genial el bluebird sss
I think with the rust fixed, really good polish/wax, fender flares and a slight drop in ride height would make that car look pretty mean. But ya that brown...its bad lol where the hell did people get the idea to make brown interiors.
MechRider89 Lol. I've actually got a think for brown interiors. It's odd. I can't really explain it. Did you see this video? ua-cam.com/video/JtZNzazOVxI/v-deo.html
80s on the front
70s on the rear
Menolifee Kind of like a mullet.
Hahahaha yes. That's what I thought of after i wrote this.
Hey men i wanted to know if the datsun 120y b310 cars are hard to get from japan cus i hear people say in trinidad dat they are hard ,cus am from trinidad and i wanted to bring one down from japan. If u could help me in knowing dat i could get one to buy dat would be great much thanks for your help
ricardo hosein I hope someone else is able to help you because I can't. :(
It's a zed in Canada...
fehquig Thank you. I have always wondered.
wavvyyy
Yikes, Wasabigasm.
Jon Lenvik Everyone had better stand back! ;-)
qotd. i dunno if you would call him a stranger but on a guitar forum. he really helped me one day. i had my guitar stolen by my ex girlfriend and stuck up on ebay, i was told by the police they wouldn't get it back because it was not worth their time. so. long story short, i posted on the guitar forum that my guitar was stolen and was on ebay. later that day i got a message from him saying "pop by the pub tomorrow, i got your guitar back" so i was glad to get the guitar back. i gave him the money he paid for the guitar and i brought him lunch and a few pints.
projectno5 Mate, that is an awesome story! Crappy beginning, but so glad to hear it all worked out. I hope the guy who bought your guitar and gave it back to you left some real negative feedback.
So you were saying it's ugly because it's rusty or just the styling of that car?
chicorompecabesa Oh, the rust doesn't bother me at all. That's the 'sabi' (錆) in the title. I just find the styling of this car not to my taste.
aren't these skyline/240 k's in australia???,looks familiar :)
neil crompton No, one size down. 180B/200B, perhaps.
hmmmm the taillights :D
Not the 240K (which was really a somewhat ugly 4-door with 240Z running gear)...in Oz it was the 200B SSS. A mate of mine used to have one...dogleg first in the box, only came with a single carb. A pretty soft, cruiser setup - more of a pseudo-sports when compared to the 180B SSS.
PS: I believe some of these were fitted with a 1.8 - not sure what the model designation would be in that case. :-)
EDIT: Oh, if you mean the white Skyline with the black flares at 0:24 ...then yeah, that's called a 240Z in Oz.
hwen you find that cars like this yu ken try sel me
Cns Cars Company Sorry, I just make videos. ;-)
thats is it . a men that continu this and thin obut iport :)
weeeird car, never seen one. cinda cool but yeah uuuglyy :D
TT GarageRat Yeah, ugly. :/
Are cherry turbos rare in Japan?
Mohammed Zeeshan I actually had to google that. They were known by a different name in Australia. Um... never seen one. :(
Oh, well that could be your next objective, to find one! Great videos!
it sys HTML5, cant play video.. any pc nerds can help me?
azim You can't watch the video?? Hmm.. sorry. :(
ya kinda sucks, had problem with 2 channels like this.. it usually wokrs aftrer couple hours but now it seem not like to play videos... bullsack
Yes, absolutely hideous. The car at 0:16, however! WOW!
Legion of Weirdos - with Christopher Mast ;-)
what was the car at 0:25 ???
acebro1000 That is a C210 Nissan Skyline sedan. :)
thank you :) where abouts in aus did u live ?
ha finnally i got video working. nice car to waste. EFI good, in canada most mechanic dont know nottin bout it except old school mechanics.. sucks..
Japanese are not friendly 99% time , polite yes but friendly not ...+ Its so hard to see any cool cars here , people have this image tha Japan is like "Fast Furious Tokyo Drift".
In Japan I see a kysha (old car) once or twice a month ...hell I see a Supra or a R32-33 GTR about once or twice a week unless I'm near the US army bases...
Alex Tapovski Lol. Yes, polite. ;-) If/when you get your car-spotting channel up, give us a yell.
WasabiCars will do mate!!!
it’s ugliness comes from those front & rear bumpers...
I find the grille a little confronting
