Miracle Survivor: 1980 Nissan Bluebird SSS Turbo S 2-Door Hardtop
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 лют 2025
- The owner of this rare, 910 Bluebird 2-door had been looking for such a car for decades. When it appeared at auction in early 2015, it was a real life case of, Shut up, and take my money!
While not quite in immaculate condition this rare bird is a real surviver. So many of the car's original accessories are still in tip-top shape. This impresses me, having just worn a hole through the floor mat of my new-ish Suzuki Wagon R.

My dad had it in Saudi Arabia in last 80's . that ws non turbo version 4 door , and man what a car it was back in the day , amazing and it used to cruise at 160-180 km.h with cruise control !!
I had one of these in 1989, got it for 60,000 yen(about $400 back in the day) at the junkyard. Mine was 1800 SSS turbo. Ended up junking it about 6 months later. Wish I would have kept it.
Very, very nice Bluebird, never seen here in The Netherlands.
The 4 door saloon was here all over in the '80 and '90's, but now these are also very rare.
I would like to have one!
I actually own one of these, the one i have is the dual SU carb version, to confirm, this car is strong enough to make the tires loose grip in second gear.
Seb my son reminded me it,s his 40 something on the 2nd Jan.so happy birthday Daniel.
once again you have brought to my eyes of vehicle I've never seen before and is truly one of a kind I love it . keep up the good work you have a gift for finding the best cars in Japan
+edgar lopezi Glad you enjoyed it. It's really my pleasure to introduce obscure old cars. And, thank you once again.
yes. cars like these are like a very big pot of Gold.
Simply wow! That is way too cool! Never seen one of these in Oz, I love the square lines and the originality of it... Thanks for sharing Dan, wishing you and your family and merry Christmas and a happy and safe 2016, Cheers!
+GodZilla308 Thanks man. All the best to you for 2016. :)
dude! the color combination is cool. silver on silver is quite unique! today we unwrapped christmas presents, got some new shoes :)
+datto240z Nice. :)
I had the exact colour. I had the bottom half resprayed blue because it started to rust. Amazing how this has survied. The clip on the sunroof broke and to close the sunroof i had to push it down and got my fingers trapped while at traffic lights🤣🤣🤣
A friend of my dad have one of this 910 2-door with L18 Twin SU carb :)
G'day, Dan'l. Beautiful looking Nissan Bluebird. I've never seen an 80s 2 door coupe version before. Apparently by 1981-82, Nissan (Datsun) decided not to offer a two door 810 (Maxima) in North America. I don't know why.
In any case, beautiful looking original survivor. There's nothing wrong with modifications and/or restomods if it helps to improve the performance and safety of a car. But I also like original survivors. I hope you had a fun and safe Christmas. :)
+Jason Carpp Thanks Jason. I do hope you had yourself a Merry Christmas. Also, all the best for 2016. :)
+WasabiCars Thank you. I hope you have a safe and fun New Year 2016. :)
amazing the condition this car is in! Wow!
The two door hardtop version is really the most beautiful one of them all. the rear window reminds me of the Gloria and Cedric 430. Such a wraparound rear window was not featured on the non hardtop I believe. speaking of which: we also only got the four door sedans and the wagon.
I did spot a genuine turbo diesel wagon for sale in Hungary. really really rare as all the wagons were used by carpenters and plumbers so almost all of them worn out in only a few years.
QOTD: not so much what I went out to do, but actually what I'm going to now: sitting in the train to Berlin! Only five and an half more hours to sit in the train and I'll see the Brandenburger Tor. :)
+banpeinet Yes, the rear window reminds me of the 430 hardtops. Wow. It's so amazing to think that you can just ride a train to another country. (I've only ever lived in Australia, P.N.G & Japan.) Hope you had fun.
I still see some sedans running arround here. But a coupe? I haven't even heard about it! If he was looking for that car 20 years ago, that means that it must be incredibly rare. I also see the rare super famicom effect on the interior panels that turn annoyingly yellow! But really. How well treated this car looks. Simply great.Question of the day: i went to my grandmother's house and celebrate christmas. I had to drive in december 24 through the avenue where i live at 8:PM. It is always supposed to be hell in christmas eve , but there wasn't traffic at all! I remember in 2008 we spent 1 1/2 hours to get out of three blocks from where i live. Strange
+taunusv4power Hahaha! 'The rare super famicom effect'. :D
jeez that thing looks sweet!
The USA didn't get the 2 door ht or the 4 door ht style.
We got the sedan and the wagon.
The sedan was IRS, while the wagon was a live axle.
Ours were all L24E inline sixes, or the LD28 diesel, with a longer front end.
The short version of this car (bluebird) was badged as a Datsun 510, which was replaced by the FWD stanza in 1982, when the Datsun 810 maxima simply became the maxima.
Nice car! Junsei steely wheels from the factory and everything! I went and got me some groceries last week to take me into the New Year without going shopping...
+fehquig I know, and not even factory alloys (which I do see around quite a bit.) I hope you are having an enjoyable Christmas and will have a safe and joy-filled New Year. :)
Over here, that was sold as the Nissan Datsun 910, or 710, whichever it was back then, and it did have the quad headlights on it.
As for what did I do? Not much, but go up to our business district, called Buckhead, to do window shopping. Love going there.
Hey I have that magazine, except it's the 1980 to 2000 edition. Has all the good ones haha. I bought it when I was in Japan in April.
US up until the mid 80s didn't allow headlights like this. Any aerodynamic or formed headlight. Because of that I love it when I see cars with proper headlights from this period like this one.
In high school a friend of mine had a mint perfect 83 Nissan 200SX (this was like 2001). Over there it was a Silvia. He thought it was garbage but if he had that now still I would buy it off him.
I agree with you on Star Wars
+Kanaric Lol. Crappy law on those headlights. As for those early 80's Silvias, I'm beginning to develop a thing for them. I really should post a vid. I got footage. :/
I love that car!
Happy happy new year Daniel!!!
+Danny Carlson Thanks Danny. I wish you all the best in 2016. :D
great vid Danny. Merry Christmas.
I'm at work blah....
+toms5oh Blah. Lol. Gotta pay them bills, eh. I hope you get to party and/or relax a little over the new year period. ;-)
Wow! The seat stripes looks a lot like Martini racing stripes.
+netmatrix75 You couldn't help but drive fast. ;-)
sweet car. Liked the Star wars film too 😀
+tjbush2012ify ;-)
Cool car, i loved the Kaido Racer one you showed in the video :)
QOTD: I ate to much turkey & beef, then walked it off with the dogs :)
Hope you enjoy the rest of Christmas Dan :)
+funbus I'm going to have to walk off all that I'm eating & drinking. Could be a while before I return though. ;-)
+WasabiCars
Lol.
Junsei, my son's name, not sure how "Pure" he is, great car.
love youre videos man!!
I have a bluebird in my neighbourhood !!I dont know what year it is ,but it looks great !!
That's another nice find Dan, the Bluebird in the video is very cool, although I think with some subtle modifications, mainly wheels, it would look much better ;) have a good one 👍
+will16vuk I didn't mention it but the owner has put some SSR SharkStars on it. Front spoiler too. (Not a fan of the spoiler...)
+WasabiCars Yeah, SSR's would look sweet, but not sure if any aero mods would work, looking at what the car actually is, maybe if it was 400bhp+ and actually needed it!!
merry Christmas to the O'Grady family :)
+pilgrum Thank you! All the best for Christmas & the New Year to you. :)
I'll have to do some research to what this cars was in the States. It's definitely cool looking. I bought a new (for me) car. It's a 2009 Kia Optima LX. Never owned a Kia before and I have to say, it's not a sports sedan but I like it a lot. My old car was a 2002 Ford Escort which dropped a valve seat and pretty much destroyed the engine. Never did like that Escort anyway.
+WikdSeafood I believe it's a Maxima. As for those Kias, when I visited Australia again in August, Kias every-bloody-where. All of them looked like a different model, too. I'm sure that wasn't the case though. ;-)
Pure JTM crush !
Merry Xmas Dan !
hope you and the family had/having a great day (cant remember time zone different to aus.. my mistake)
Q.O.T.D - went for a drive to see some family, not very exciting but thought id play the game none the less.. haha
damn pitty we didnt get the hard-tops here.. *sniff*..
So clean, man. I would make it a nice little sleeper. This car looks too nice stock.
really great condition car.!! in México not exist haha
+ivanprobmx Glad you enjoyed. :)
cool car and video and cool books i wish they had those in English
what did I go and do well not much really this year though for my birthday we did go look at Christmas light displays after we went out for dinner
great :D i basically didnt did anything other than playing on my new wii u since chrismas lmao
Good question! I haven't spoken to anyone since December 24, 02.00pm.... No drinking, no big eating.... But I like the spirit of Christmas.
+Frederick König One thing you are doing is learning lots of words that you can't use from watching 3OD. ;-)
What is the red city car parked next to the Bluebird?
Pretty unique...Great find! What did i go and do? Ummm! I got the last turkey at Aldi...It was so last and man handled, the teller had to go find the cardboard thing with the barcode...Yep i held up the Q 2 minutes. I hate Christmas!
+69Phuket Lol. I bet that turkey tasted sweet ;-) Turkey and a hair-dryer?
Don't talk hair dryers..That's my morning wake up... How you know that?
Those were the UK rotten turkeys (TESCO)??
Whenever i see a 910 i think of George Fury whipping Holdens & Fords with a 1.8 LOL.
+pranee budd I was always a Brocky fan, but I of course recall the white, blue & red Bluebird. ;-)
It would be most probably better if the side mirrors where on the door, did this nice car had the fifth gear?
The gear knob says it had 5 speeds. It was the sporty SSS version though.
@@wasabicars Ok 👍
QOTD: I just drank a bit... but for some reason! I woke up without a hangover! :D A true Christmas Miracle! XD
+MANNY~EmberDim Perhaps because you only *drank a bit*. :D
WasabiCars define "bit" XD
My Dad in Mexico got a kinda rare version, that had the mirrors at front, It was a Datsun 1600 SSS, have you seen one by any chance??? is there a way to send you a photo of the model? I would like to know a little bit more about it.. there is not much info in google about it
I wonder if you mean this one: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datsun_510
“ブルーバードスピリット”の原点に回帰した6代目
You really need to watch the new Star Wars movie more than once. It gets better and more interesting the 2nd and 3rd time you see it.
Man, why are the cool and interesting versions of cars the most rare? I guess they just had a hefty price bump over the normal versions so not many people bought them or something. And why has Australia always insisted on building and importing the most boring versions of cars?
+danehb89 Not sure. I think the cool and interesting ones were generally only (or mainly) sold in the Japanese market. Yeah, and Australia was/is kinda a small market. Even the Monaro couldn't survive... twice. :(
What speed manual transmission is it?
5 speed
My 1st car. NZ 1996
show the radio, Clarion with separate Casette Deck.
Sorry
i have a 910 sss coupe, a 910 sedan, and a 910 station wagon for sale by the way
910は2ドアにかぎる‼️
カッコいいですね
I cooked a bunch of food on Christmas
junsei
Looks like a US first gen maxima
Yeah, am an Aussie, so not sure. But, I do know there was a crossover of Bluebirds/Maximas at some point
Nice car... weird interior.
+Legion of Weirdos I suspect there were some replaced parts in the interior. Mis-matched colours.
WasabiCars
I just signed up to patreon wanna help to get you to the 1000$ mark
+edgar lopezi You did? Thank you! Very much appreciated. :)
NISSAN MAXIMA
+chicomaxima1 In the States, yeah? I actually only learned that when researching for this video.
I'm called ChicoMaxima for Reason don't need to do any research
Love these videos. There's a car meet that happens every Friday in the city of Burbank here in Southern California. Look up #OJCM on Instagram and you'll see tons of photos. 👍
I really like this one. Here in Finland was one of these for sale, in four_door_configuration, and I really wanted to buy it! I'm glad, I bought Sunny instead.
m.pinkbike.com/photo/12860864/
Theres some pictures of it; I'd like if you'd comment on it?
+Bablo Keinänen It looks cool. I've never seen a 2-door sedan like that. :)
3 spd auto trans??
Lol I rip this thing on gran turismo.. Lol
+invinciblejets I hope you can keep it off the walls. ;-)
this car is soo boring that it isnt...
+aarongooding You actually could have just kept that to yourself. Irrespective of the car I put a lot of effort into this video. It kind of bums me out.
+aarongooding Hey, maybe you were just having a bit of fun. Hard to tell.
+WasabiCars i sorry i wasnt being neg. aboot the vid,,,,, i meant the car is so junsei boring, that it makes it interesting to me.
+aarongooding Ah, it's all good. I can only be grumpy in these northern hemisphere winters. :(
