If you park it outside in the summer forget the plug in. I added a very small solar panel on top of battery and wired it on the battery. As it sits waiting for the grass to grow it is charging or maintaining charge always.

I'm on my third season with this mower. Not one problem, great on fuel, just sips it. Can mow my lawn twice without running out. I take good care of mine, change the oil at the beginning of each season, clean it often, and blow the air filter off regularly. I've had several Briggs powered equipment for 15 plus years with no real problems. Retired my snapper when I bought this mower, still ran just smoked and sucked the gas/ oil down because it was wore out. Got $75 for it.

Agreed Chris. I bought my JS46 new back in 2007. This has been the best mower I have ever had by far! It starts right up every season without fail. Never have had to replace any parts, except 1 battery and 1 blade. I change the oil every season and she is good to go.

Looking back at this mower...biggest regret of my life, tons of problems, I replaced it with a craftsman AWD mower, now that's a good mower

If you want a good push model, the toro 22155, with the honda gsv190 is the best option, it only weighs 81 pounds, and seems to have even more power then the kawi on the john deere. Works good for ditches and mowing around tree roots. If you mow lawns for a living, you probably want to invest in these, john deere we85, honda hrc216hxa, toro 22155, honda 35 cc trimmer, makita hand held gas blower, john deere ztrak 920 and/or a 960...its nice to have an x729 for hills

Cool video. I just got one of these. I'm wondering if there is a trick to get the drive wheels to not lock up while mowing. For example on my last one Toro I think. I could engage drive, go up a hill a bit, disengage drive and let the mower roll backwards. Pretty easily too. On this JD I pull back on the drive bar and 80% at least one of the drive wheels won't "free roll". It's like it's in "Park". Won't spin. Pita if you just want to roll back a foot or two. WV mostly hills. Just got the thing yesterday. So wondering if the wheel lock "park brake" thing is normal or if maybe my drive needs adjustment. Thanks all.

sorry for spamming, but lastly if your gonna mow a town lot and thats it, just buy a damn yardman for 150-200. May not be as good quality but you can replace the wheels and cover the bottom of the deck in rustoleum it be good quality then. Hell an engine is only 100-250 if you want a different engine. I put a use 875 on my dads yardman for him, total machine cost is 275...built like a tank with steel wheels now...if u mow one small lawn and want a rider...snapper re200 great mower.

Yeah why I buy Toro, Honda and Exmark mowers for my lawn mowing business.
I remember the good old JX75, That thing kicks ass

all the equipment I listed runs on straight gasoline, those mixes cost lots of money. Diesel is nice as well, but remember the epa is getting worse, also it doesnt do much good if your engine outlast the rest of the mower lol. But do whatever, just stay away from exmark...it cost as much as john deere and less quality. Scag is good, but john deere is best in my opinion, it has mulch on demand decks, as well as all one piece stamped 7 gauge steel decks.

My JS-45 just died after 5 years....the John Deere dealer said they can't fix it as they will no longer make them. He then tried to sell me a Honda as that is who they will start selling.

  • @JeffreyBridges1988
    @JeffreyBridges1988 12 років тому

the john deere, is more powerful for tall wet grass, and has an aluminum deck. the cons, it weighs more, the engine likes more gas, and the kawi isnt as clean or smooth as the honda. The honda however, is still heavy but, I can mow a long time on a full tank, it cuts and mulches perfectly in good cutting conditions, and the hydrostatic lever shaft drive is much more user friendly. If you mow your grass weekly or more honda, if you dont, the john deere we85

I purchased my first John Deere JS46 mower a little over two years ago. The mower would NOT back up within a WEEK! I returned it to Lowes and was given a second John Deere JS46. The key start FELL OUT within a WEEK! I made 2 trips to a John Deere dealership 20 miles away to take the mower & then to pick it up after the key start was replaced! The key start fell out AGAIN right after the end of the 2 year warranty period! PULL starting this mower takes MANY HARD pulls! HORRIBLE MOWER! HIGH PRICE!

when you get around 500 you might as well just dish out the money for commercial. I wouldnt buy a 21 with self propel not being a commercial, because those systems require lots of maintainence. Best commercial models, John Deere we85 (136 lbs, kawasaki fj180v kai engine, aluminum deck, 6 hp, gear drive, or honda hrc216hxa (honda gxv160 5 hp engine, 125 lbs, hydrostatic shaft drive. Each mower has its strong points and weak points.

This mower is a POS to say it nicely. There are only 3 positive features: 1. Mow deck is ultra easy to adjust the height; 2. The engine is ultra easy to pull start (usually first shot every time); and 3. The electric start (when it works) is really nice. Other than that we have bent the crankshaft twice, replaced the engine twice, this thing sucks. Mulch mode is pathetic, and bagging is horrid. Really this is just a VERY expensive piece of junk imho. I am actually in the process of replacing the engine with a Predator 173cc. I'm tired of shelling out 160 bucks a pop on the factory briggs just to have a failure. The cheap Murray we had (which did nothing but side discharge) and was 35 years old worked fine. Never should have upgraded. (We got tired of fighting to start it.... old mowers were always a PITA to start at times...)

I own this mower and i cut my neighbors lawns as well as mine, I used it for 3 hrs a week, apprx 90-100 hrs per season, after exactly one year the engine cylinder blew and it took Atlantic Tractor 3 weeks to fix. Near the end of my two year warranty I took it back to Atlantic Tractor because a lot of little parts were breaking and the cost was ridiculous and they wouldn't cover it with warranty. DON'T BUY, and don't try to bust my balls saying that I didn't properly maintain my mower.

This mower is a piece of sh*&. I have replaced the engine once, it mulches for crap, vacuums for crap and the batteries go perma dead after two years. (even after being charged)... made by MTD not John Deere. Cheap.

Total piece of junk. Heavy, difficult to start when cold, difficult to restart when hot. The engine speed is all over the place. Too fast, too slow. Speed surges fast to slow and fast again.
What happened to the days of buying an $85 lawnmower from Kmart and using it for years and years and years with no problems whatsoever?
Those cheap lawnmowers were lightweight and easy to push. No need for self-propelled. And they actually let you control the engine speed manually.
