When using a hole saw you can stop about 4mm from punching through and come in from the other side if you are drilling grained timber this stops the back from blowing out as it does in the video. Not so critical with MDF but it does have a neater finish on both.👍
I appreciate all of your videos and you sharing your knowledge and craftmanship! This type of latch came on my current camper van (made by LA West back in 2000). I recently purchased and installed matching ones on some new cabinetry that I made. I wanted to note that these do come in a model designed for thicker applications, in my case I bought some made for 3/4" application. They work without modification. They were Southco brand, purchased from Amazon. Keep up the great vids, please, I watch them all!
Thanks for the video I'm using 3/4 ply for decking on my boat, the latches I have are chrome and metal so I'm not sure if they are the same measurement to modify the ring, but I'm glad I saw this so I wouldn't have to return them! I guess we will find out Thursday
Some pretty nifty camera work you set the bar pretty high I was expecting you to put a light inside the cabinet and show it closing and opening and latching and unlatching from inside 👍🏻😂👍🏻😂
I appreciate you making these videos, It's great how thorough you make them. I've been interested in these kinds of latches as they look very similar to the drawer latches in the westfalia vans. They should work just as well in a a simple sliding cabinet drawer right? PS You're saying altercation but I think you mean to say alteration. An altercation is like a conflict between two people.
These will work well with the quarter inch birch ply I like using for my doors. Don't have to worry about screws coming out the back side. Is that a vinyl covering on those doors? You ever use masking tape over the hole area to try and cut down on the tear out?
Great Vids! switching to Slam Latch from Push Button Catch Would you still recommend them on drawers? I have soft close drawers and trying to see how they might function.
Great look and informative video! Did you line-x right over the wood cabinet frames or are the frames aluminum? I like the look, but not clear on how you built out the boxes. Thanks!
Yes i find one just a bit smaller than the door height on these kind of upper cabinets. But you can mount them however far up the side to get the angle you want the door to open too!
Thanks for the instructions. Could you include the source/part number of the pneumatics? I realize they are kind of door size specific but since you set yours up on a van build it's going to be perfect for a lot of us out here.
I see what you mean it's not a matter of tue latch function it's a matter of operating them so in this position it becomes more of a thumb pull than a finger pull unless you get in the habit of flipping your hand around all the way.

Always the best option 👍🏻
Rad camera placement on this vid ;) Love your designs, walkthroughs and patient teaching style - super informative and helpful - much love

Anyone who buys these and doesn’t watch this video with a thick door, may f*ck 🆙 😂Thanks for sharing this! Saved me some 💰
cheers for the tip to turn the backplate around for thicker plywood
would these work for a 1 inch thick cabinet door ? good info very pro
Probably need longer bolts for back
Cool latches. Thanks for showing how to install them.
great video and beautiful wood work.
Skills on point. Always a joy watching you! Hard to believe you dont have more subscribers.
Working on it. Thanks man
Your the man!!! Just what I was looking for!!!!! Thank You Brian!!!
Thank you for taking the time to show this install. Very well done and informative.
Nice vid. You explained it well.
Thank you doing my best!
Great choice for latches. Slam and done.
Always post great how to vids.
If you finish drilling the hole from the inside, you won't splinter the inside of the door.
Ya i normally do
A pro would clamp a piece of wood behind the door

Yess they will work on drawers
What do you treat the wood with? I need a good way to treat the wood in my rv to prevent mold from forming
A good one is polyurethane at home depot
6:08 - I think you have confused "altercation" with "alteration". Excellent video. Thank you for sharing.
Yea i caught that months later haha
Great vid thanks for that. What type of hinge do the cabinets pivot about? Is it a standard piano hinge?
Yes

Yes I do sometimes, and no its real reclaimed lumber
I love the finish on the inside of your cabinet! Brilliant! What did you use for that beautiful treatment/effect?
It’s a truck bed liner
Loving the build. Where did you get those mini gas struts from for the cupboard doors?
Could you send a link for those struts holding the door up please? Thanks…well done!

Great Vids! switching to Slam Latch from Push Button Catch Would you still recommend them on drawers? I have soft close drawers and trying to see how they might function.
Ya could be bit odd since the soft close would make it close slow. But would still lock it shut
Great video
Are the cabinet frames wood or metal? Thanks
Wood with a truck bed coating
Great vid, thanks. I love the the wood in the van 👊🏻 what have you used?
Luan or birch
@@SolidWoodWorx thanks man, but that's not what I mean 😁 what have you used for the decorative finish on the cabinet doors?
Nice! Thanks for posting that. It's nice to see the part in use before I go plan a build with it.
Great look and informative video! Did you line-x right over the wood cabinet frames or are the frames aluminum? I like the look, but not clear on how you built out the boxes. Thanks!
Yes the customer had a company line x the cabinets after i built em
How do you ‘size’ the gas struts ? Is there a Rule of Thumb / Standard Practice to determine what size for various doors, lids, etc ?
Yes i find one just a bit smaller than the door height on these kind of upper cabinets. But you can mount them however far up the side to get the angle you want the door to open too!
Good job well done. Was wondering how I was going to mount my latch having a half inch piece of wood.
Thanks for the instructions. Could you include the source/part number of the pneumatics? I realize they are kind of door size specific but since you set yours up on a van build it's going to be perfect for a lot of us out here.
Here are the gas struts i used on those upper cabinets amzn.to/2O9k9Bc
Thx Brian!
Hey Brian, What is the surface finish of those cabinets? Is it a textured paint or something else?
Yes Its a rhino lining like a truck bed.
@@SolidWoodWorx thanks
Well done tutorial once again....stronger than 10 acres of garlic! ha
1) did you have previous info on the door lift strut? Looks good.
I did see your strut amazon link so more info on calculating the pivot point locations is helpful and perhaps you had shown that somewhere?
No i dont have a video on that but good idea i can make one!
Please tel me me about the coating that you have all over those storage bins.
Its called Line X
Ever seen a slam latch with catch on opposite end ? Trying source latches for uppers which would work better having catch on other end.
I dont really understand what you mean by opposite end? You can also spin the latch 180degrees around maybe?
@@SolidWoodWorx sorry so where the catch on the back is 180 degrees rotated. Then the front pull would be easier to pull on a upper cabinet.
did you build the shelf frames or is it a kit?
Built it all
@@SolidWoodWorx amazing work! Love your channel
nice video
is that raptor liner on the cabinets?
Yes simliar
@@SolidWoodWorx does it last long on plywood? Thinking of using it for my van cabinets. All your videos are super helpful!
For sure
What is the thickness of your cabinet doors?
At the 1:15 mark you can hear me say 3/4"
@@SolidWoodWorx Thanks!
What size hole saw?
2" Sorry definitely should have linked that in the video! amzn.to/2XbemPR
Yes 👍
What texture is on the grey cabinet interior?
Line x, truck bedliner
Kinda not really designed to be used upside down like this, but, whatever works.
Dont see a problem with it mate
Solid Wood Worx Not what I suggested either.
