Thanks, Ben, for showing us your sponsors' products, looks like you genuinely endorse them, great to see that and that you are on the mend. And not sure it'll ever happen but I'd like to see shoulder pads or protection of that sort for everyday or every weekend riders on gravel and what not, something to help us spring back up after a fall and get back to the front for the dash to the checkers. 😀
Cheers, Rob. And yes, I don't partner with brands I don't believe in. The more I do this, the more random 'collab' requests I get from all kinds of brands: 'smart' water bottles, sketchy-looking e bikes, phone holders for motorcycles... And while I do like money, The Ride is about legit cycling stuff. So just like Feedback and Silca have believed in me, I believe in them. And keep me posted on pads to keep gray-haired riders like me from smashing themselves!
Oooh, that looked like a painful bit of work! Hope your shoulder heals up soon. Thanks for the hear - lots of good insights into different bikes. Much appreciated as the field is really getting crowded and understanding nuances between bikes is super helpful.
I went over the bars all by myself in a race this year. I'm not sure what happened, but my front wheel ended up pointing other than straight, and over I went at 22 mph. My bike was ok, I got a bunch of scrapes, and landed on the back top of my giro eclipse spherical. I felt that in the head a neck for about an hour, but then I had no head injury. They safety of those helmets delivers. It did not crack through to the bottom layer. They have a crash replacement discount too.
I searched and have spent $3,800 with Perc over the last couple of years, partly because they support you and cycling in general. Have and use a bunch of Silca pumps and chain lube as well. Thank you for your channel and thank your sponsors for making it possible!
Hey Ben Having gone through a shoulder reconstruction on both sides, rehab is a bitch. But if you don’t do the rehab exercises you don’t get your shoulder use back. Keep 17:32 at it, it takes a long time 😢 Keep up the good work and a happy New Year 🎉
Happy new year Ben! Secretly hoping for another vid like 2023 where you shared your top 5 gravel bikes of the past year, especially as you shared well why those were in the list.
Fully agree that the Silca Gear Wipes are a must have! I use them after every ride to give the chain and bike a quick wipe-down. This quick habit is worth it to know that you are rolling out on each ride with basically a clean bike (I do a full clean about 1x per week). Also, the Gear Wipes are fantastic for giving your hands a quick clean-up after you have done some work on the bike. Pro tip on the Silca Wax system, buy a couple of extra chain hangers, that will make waxing several chains at one time easier. Having multiple chains to swap between when using a wax system makes the easy process even easier.
Silca wax system is awesome 😊 elite fly and jet bottles are brilliant and so good being squeezy.. toe warmers I use shimano sphyre brilliant and hard wearing 😊 wish you a great 2025 dude.. good to see your recovering well😊😊 Pete 🚴🏻👍
Great video as always!! I have switched to all Elite Fly Bottles as they are by far the best. Significantly better than Specialized or Camelbak bottles I was using. High flow and no leaking!
No more crashing! Hope you get that range of motion back soon! My back left jersey pocket will remain empty for at least another month with my injury! lol
I ordered the Giro Aries Spherical. I hope I made a good choice. it was so hard to decide that I was going to get an Aero helmet, but I was worried that I might not be good enough ventilation, so I went for the Aries.
35 year Shimano shoe wearer here - Worth noting: A couple of years ago Shimano changed the last on their shoes. The regular is now too narrow for a lot of feet, and the 'wide' is now the regular last - only it doesn't come in 1/2 sizes. This is a monumentally dumb decision! I wrote @shimano and of course had no response. Very disappointing for a 40+ year customer. Yes, I had Dura Ace in 1985.
I found new shimano shoes to be too shallow, like you need pancake flat feet. I had to remove the shoe liner, which isn't ideal with that hard plastic sole against my socks. I'll probably just have to sell them.
@newttella1043 I've always had "low volume" feet (not flat), so I didn't notice that, but the width sizing is just one of the dumbest decisions ever. I bought a new pair of their gravel shoes and they crushed my foot. It was the same size 44 that I had in all of my other Shimano shoes. Long story short, I went to a cycling shoe fitter and he explained what they did. To confirm, I tried on a couple of different pairs of the new Phyre road shoes and they also didn't fit anymore. I ended up getting a pair of used shoes from the last version before they changed the last, the SMX 901s, size 44, and they fit perfectly. Still, used shoes. Let me add, I've had multiple foot surgeries, so my reason for sticking with Shimano is that I 'knew' they would fit. 🤣
@@rg807 I broke one of my own rules, shoes should always be bought at a local bike shop. The one time I order a pair of shoes online, it's a completely different fit.
I really appreciate your efforts! Could you help me with something unrelated: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). Could you explain how to move them to Binance?
I've been using regular Lysol wipes for ages. A plastic tub of it in my truck and a resealable bag of baby wipes for the body. But cyclist like to pay extra for cyclist targeted products. I think I'll rebrand some toilet paper and charge four times the price to cyclists 🤔
No, but they’re hand and tool wipes used by electricians/contractors and rebranded by SILCA. Sika makes the same product, so does Wypall/Kimberly-Clark and a few other brands.
It takes extraordinary effort on my part to be in disagreement with anyone who puts themselves out there and does such a remarkable job. Today, however, I must say that those Shimano shoes are the worst shoes I’ve ever ridden with. They’re very uncomfortable. Additionally and because the studs under the shoes are so narrowly placed I can’t walk on gravel terrain without twisting my feet. The pain is so unbearable.
Bummer. Sorry to hear it. Did you have the gravel or the MTB shoes? The GR8s are the tweener between road (lightweight, no real infrastructure for hike-a-bike) and MTB (beefier, made for riding and bits of time off the bike). Like saddles, shoe fit is obviously a personal thing. Hope you find a good one for you!
It's the RX8. Not sure where it fits in their lineup. Went to Adidas Gravel Shoes and LOVE them. Power transfer feels the same and walks like I'm in sneakers. Keep up the excellent work. I never miss your videos and reference them constantly before a big purchase.

I been using toe thingys for a few years now. They have a hole in the front, but they still work great.
Elite Fly bottles. 👍👍

BTW, I use the half bootie shoe covers too, and love them.

Yeah, no doubt. We'll see where I end up. The surgeon said we'll know in a year what my 'new normal' is. Happy new year!
