Send a third email, get a response that says "we'll have maintenance take a look at it" send an email 3 days later, no response. Send another email, "Sorry, maintenance will be by today" and nothing happens. Finally a month later maintenance comes in, says you broke it, and the apartment will bill you for it.

      As a landlord myself; it’s hard finding people to do the work. Something’s broke, I call around the day my tenants tell me it’s broke (meanwhile I’m at my day job).
      Takes the person 3-5 days to get out, then they need to order a part etc. then if insurance gets implicated the repair waits until insurance gives the okay.
      I know there are a lot of bad landlords, but the idea that you can get something fixed the next day is unrealistic unless of course you have a dedicated maintenance staff on-hand and insurance isn’t involved. So as a landlord myself; I see both sides of the coin.

    More house owners need to speak up about this. Owning a house is cool, but the maintenance fees is no joke. Any savings you think your getting from owning can instantly get swept up by the wrong series of things breaking, especially if you don't like to upkeep on things.

    • @ruruvarela

      Not always, bit for everyone. I been in my home for 4 years this year and I have never had to fix anything. Other than basic battery change to smoke detector and that's not even every year. I used to do the lawn my self but I came to realize that it takes way too long to do it myself. I spend 100 a month and I get all that time back for me to do other stuff. Like enjoy family, friends, get out of town without having to worry about the lawn. It was impossible getting it done during the week and it's just not worth the savings to give up my weekend. I rather pay. Other than that I pay my regular house bills like anyone else who rents. On top of taxes and insurance of course cuz I have it separate from my mortgage (I like it that way)
      I pay way less than if I would be renting. And don't have to fix anything on a routine. I I'll be prepared for when it does happen but she makes it seem like she got an very old house. And mine ain't a new build just got lucky I guess.

    • @CookieIsBack024
      @CookieIsBack024 2 години тому +2

      You throw the money away renting. Owning a home is an investment that will take a minimal amount of effort at least. Yes you gotta buy a washer but the dude you're paying could buy four when the time comes. Manage your money and a landlord is just YOU. Might feel worse cause you're using "savings" but at that point it's the purpose you started saving for so don't sweat it. Renting just feels like it's for people that cant really take care of themselves.. I cant imagine a home gets that bad unless you're generally irresponsible, like myself, which really makes renting seem worse cause it can't be very calculated. Who's willing to rent without it being a cope? People with pride and dummy rich people, so basically both really enjoy renting. Condos above the race track type shit fr

    In her book one thing she said that while in therapy her therapist had asked about the home and she had said there was always, always something to be fixed. It must be nice to be able to CHOOSE apartment life. Most people don't rent by choice, they rent because the barrier to buying is so high. And end up paying more in rent than mortgage+upkeep. If you like not having to worry, that's great for you if you have the money to pay someone else to take care of everything for you (I will note, there are people you can pay to do the same thing for your home you live in, if you want that).

    She mentioned in her book that there were people working on her house like the whole time she lived there. The contractors would fix something, but then they would "find something else" so it was like her house kept breaking. I think she was getting fucked over and they were scamming her. She was a very young adult without any family to give her advice, and due to her relationship with her mom, she was someone who was very easy to manipulate and take advantage of. Also in an interview she said "SOUNDS LIKE hush money to me" when they tried to give her money 🤦‍♂️ that isn't even "legally binding" she could've taken it and STILL RELEASED THE BOOK. Every little thing surrounding the book has to be dramatic as well, she has to SELL THE STORY 😂

      I'm a 2-time homeowner now, and I do LOVE the freedom that comes with owning your home, I would also like the freedom to just notify the landlord when something breaks down! To be able to just send a text "the washing machine went out," and then within a day or two, it's professionally fixed, with no hassle or extra cost to me, sounds relaxing! If I had tons of money, owning a home would be a lot more freeing, because I wouldn't have to stress about upgrades, remodels or repairs. Unfortunately though, I'm not wealthy, so I just make it work until I have another option! For example, my kitchen desperately needs renovating (structural deterioration problems, but not unsafe or anything), I need a new water heater soon, my AC unit will need replaced soon, and I'm always worried about something breaking down. It's just that stuff is always on my mind. 😆 first world problems...

You can literally hear everything. I've never been in a apartment where you can hear everything that goes on and can even hear other people's conversations the yelling and fighting I live with ghetto neighbors. Like for real! I'm just ready to get tf out of this apartment and get a house once I'm able to. Much more privacy...

Living right by nature. Not responsible for repairs. Paying half what my friends do in the house they have together which isn't including the thousands they've had to pour into the house for repairs.

Three months later the basement flooded and I had to replace the pump. Spent that summer and fall painting and doing cosmetic things on the inside and outside of the house just to have to rip out the hedge and dig up the front yard to fix the pipes from the house had burst and caused my newly fixed basement to fill with sewage…. Home ownership definitely comes with maintenance that is often overlooked. However, one of the best reasons to purchase a home is because it's stabilizes your biggest line item which is housing, assuming you get a fixed rate mortgage. This is now inflation-prood for 30 years for most people. Pricing, especially in metro areas, is wild so I understand this on its own isn't necessarily the only reason you should buy but IMO it's a really good one.

Everyday, you need to keep a house clean, and that's a bunch of rooms like bedrooms, kitchen, dining, etc. The grounds you have to maintain like watering and trimming the plants/trees/grass whatever. You have to be knowledgeable at inspecting your home regularly like if you got leaks, hardware needs replacing, regular pest control, painting and repainting, woodwork/cabinets etc etc. It is so much work. I think the house is just being kept in the family bc it's on a lot of land and that land is worth so much.

    If you’re a regular person you’ll know that the landlord usually doesn’t fix things or kind of fixes it if you’re lucky and sometimes they choose to not renew the lease because house prices have gone up and they want to cash in (happened to three of my friends). They also can increase the rent when it’s time to renew, my cousin is paying 500 more than he first signed up for and they just told him it’ll be 200 more when he renews again. Let’s not forget that they don’t always give your deposit back. Also school zones and having to find rent within the area. Now both have pros and cons. Do what’s best for you.

    Same here, when you're young maybe start with renting and if you want to buy a property wait until you find a deal that really makes sense because chances are you will end up losing money even when selling it maybe 5 to 10 years after your initial down payment. All expenses + the rent you get from tenants while you have the house is very expensive plus usually people lose money most months while having the asset. So renting for a year or two might end up saving you money down the line. On the other end I know people in their 20's doing med school and business school, both bought multiple doors and are happy with their returns so really it's all about the maths. Peace✌️
