Is the sunroof/moonroof on your car clunking when you open and close it? Chances are good it just needs to be lubricated. It's very simple to do, just make sure you use a Silicone Synthetic Grease.

Very helpful , just had my car fully wrapped and I noticed my sunroof clunking after I got it back . I think the shop had to clean the area to apply vinyl wrap to the roof and never re greased it . Thank you 👍🏼
You're welcome.
Thank you for the awesome tip! I will definitely be performing this service on my Big Six version soon.
You're quite welcome! This one has been a long time coming that I've been wanting to do this. Weather just started getting nice enough out.
You did a good job by making this video ✌️
Thank you.
Thanks for the tip on how to fix a sunroof of this car not bad
No problem.
Great video tyvm 😊
You're welcome.
I don't have that kine, but great tip to remember if I ever do own a vehicle with a sunroof.
I have silicone grease! That's what the damper pads are lubed with in a Dependable Care Maytag washer. Soon I will show how to service them!
Beg pard!
You just watched a repair video about a sunroof you don’t have 🤡
@@260marc Nah, I watched it a year ago.
Can you just use spray silicone grease that you use on electric windows?
I covered that in great detail in the video. You can use anything you want, but your results will vary. You may also have to reapply much more often than you expect.
@jaykay18 thanks for the reply 👍🏼
Can I use CRC technician grade dialectric grease
I believe that should work fine.
What if sunroof was clunking and now stuck closed? Tries to open but won’t.
Then it sounds to me you had plenty of advanced warning of impending failure. You didn't heed said warning, and now it's completely non-functional.
question does driving around with roof tilt make lots of dust come in? its my first car i mean ill close completely once parked but driving around lots of dust will go inside and dirty my car?
No, not really. When driving, nothing will really fly in, the aerodynamics of the car makes the air flow over it. If you are on dusty roads, best to keep it closed though. Leaving it open when not in the car, anything can fall in.
@@jaykay18 thank u my brother
@@b.broadway1831 You're welcome, no problem at all.
i opened mine in winter or tried to open it.... and it didnt and something happened where now when i use it... is doing a cracking noise as it moves... like a plastic grinding thing "gear stepping" noise thing is strange... im afraid to take it apart... cause if i mess it up... oh well then i have a hole in my roof top lmao... i wonder if u guys know what the problem might be? car is a e46 wagon 2004 model 2.0tdi... not sure if that helps... but basically whenever i tried to fully open it sometimes it goes sometimes stops mid... im guessing there is a spring and a gear somewhere and they arent in a guide anymore so it works bad or grinds on smth....
Well you broke something, or something was frozen and it tried to move, and the ice locked it in place. You have a damaged part that would need to be replaced most likely. It IS a BMW after all...
Did the same with my 00 Durango rear wiper. Most manufacturers use plastic or similar gears. I ended up having to replace the whole motor assembly. I know it's not the exact same but hopefully it helps
What about if the sunroof doesn't seal in the back .the vent works but it doesn't come up level inviting rain to pour in..
If it's a Toyota, you can try this procedure:
ua-cam.com/video/o6eekfc-deM/v-deo.html
If you get it in the right position and it still doesn't seal, then the seals are bad and need to be replaced.
@@jaykay18 it's a Cherokee..it doesn't go into place even with the roof in back..push vent and it will raise above as it should. It just doesn't seem to want to go in the sealed position..level front to back .
@@thedbcooperforum Not going into proper position is kind of a far cry from clunking. This isn't going to help. I'm a Toyota guy, I get it, it's a Jeep thing and I wouldn't understand. Good luck.
@@jaykay18 just thought I would see if you knew anything about the problem..no worries.
@@thedbcooperforum Sorry I wasn't of more help.
Hmm, I don't THINK mine is clunking, but it probably couldn't hurt to grease the rails again.
If it ain't broke, break it so you can fix it.
@@jaykay18 Oh good idea! *smashes the glass* Thanks for the advice!
@@Sharkie626 I can give you serial numbers, is about the best I can do!
This is very familiar.
I get too many ideas for videos.
You don't lubricate the tracks?
A spray silicone lubricate might work, but can also attract dirt. So unless it's having trouble sliding, I wouldn't.
