2nd time I found your video and it got me out of trouble - many thanks for that! 1st time boiler wouldn't fire, had been idle for 3 months. 2nd time was after a replacement heat exchanger was fitted and we couldn't find out what was wrong. The banging sorted it!

@@MyBoiler happened twice again this week. And got it going again. Raised the hot water temp from 57 to 61'C to see if that helps. Think the low water pressure in our area combined with the low heat might not push the Vaillant hard enough.
@@Bartezz If it is a gas valve issue that keeps recurring you may want to do a fixed price repair with Vaillant as the gas valve is quite expensive. This is unless you are still in warranty of course. The boiler has a minimum water pressure / flow rate and will work to quite a low level, you can check the specs and compare against your actual flow rates. Jay K.

The Vaillant boiler has started to periodically turn off with an F.28 error. It turns off about 4-5 times a day and needs to be restarted. It cannot ignite the flame on the first attempt, only on the second or third attempt. I called a technician, and he said that the pressure is below normal. I understand that he was referring to the water pressure. He did something and said that it should work now, but the boiler continues to turn off. However, the boiler does not turn off at night and works all night. Can you please suggest what it could be? What should I ask the technician to pay attention to during his next visit?
Hi, you may have two separate issues. First the external controls would need to be checked by disconnecting them to see if the boiler is still staying on. Second perhaps get the boiler serviced / fix price repair by Vaillant themselves. Service is £99, fixed price repair is £299. JK
Trick worked for me. 10 years old boiler. It's happened first time ,just back after 10 days holidays. Wondering now should I change a valve or wait for another fault?
Where we have done this, the boiler has carried on working perfectly fine for a long time afterwards, however you can see it as allowing you preparation time in case it re-occurs continually.

Hi I change the gas valve for a new one 3 months ago and F54 has came back again the new gas valve is the same one as the ones that come with the boiler no up grade so maybe fault batch what you think
@@happyslapper07 Hi, there is always a chance that a replacement part can be faulty, so either it is the same part at faulty or something else such as electronics causing the issue. There is also a possibility of gas valve having issues if you have moisture in the gas line. I would suggest maybe a fixed price repair by Vaillant or another company to be on the safe side.
what does this tapping do? is it like old tellies, you gave it tap, and started showing pictures?
Hi, yes I guess it is kind of like old tellies showing pictures. Basically the vibration forces the internal diaphragm to loosen up and get unstuck from it's normal resting position. This gas valve is likely sticking due to moisture in the gas supply, and that we in the UK have antiquated and degrading gas supply networks. JK.
1. You need to have the hot water running (leave the hot tap turned on).
2. Press the ignite button.
3. Then do the tapping on the silver bits, (as the boiler tries to ignite) which he is blocking the view of. But you can see it for about 1/2 sec (1:39-1:41 in the video).
Hi, that’s pretty much the technique. The boiler must be trying to ignite as mentioned in the video whilst agitating the valve. Did it work for you? Many hundreds of people have had success with this undocumented technique. Just glad we were able to help a lot of people throughout the winter period. JK

Very weird. No knocking necessary. After a few failed resets, turned the hot water tap on in the kitchen, and hey presto, the next reset worked:)

Hey, glad it worked. It may continue to work without any issues, just keep an eye on it, otherwise possibly a new gas valve required. I would suggest fixed price repair from Vaillant if it becomes recurring issue. JK

As clearly stated in the video, the inside of the appliance must not officially/legally be accessed unless you are trained to do so, this is clearly stated. It is for the reason you have just described that this video is only for trained engineers. We nonetheless hope you get things resolved professionally. JK
How can you test the ignition lead and the spark plug?
Using a continuity tester for lead integrity and spark plug to case testing. Must be carried out by a qualified engineer as when you do this, certain parts / seals need to be replaced. JK

Hi, the gas valve body is being vibrated gently and carefully so as not to cause damage to the gas valve but help release the mechanism inside. This should be carried out by a professional. JK

La electro válvula está sucia, volverá a fallar, quite los 2 tornillos de la electro válvula ( la superior) más grande y limpie con limpia contactos y engrasando con spray 3 en 1 afloja tornillos. Montar y listo.
Translation: The solenoid valve is dirty, it will fail again, remove the 2 screws from the larger solenoid valve (the upper one) and clean with contact cleaner and grease with 3 in 1 spray to loosen screws. I've changed dozens of GV's in these ecotec mk 2 boilers because they are garbage and vaillant know this but still fit them in the boilers.....!!!
Yes, there are a few parts that are of sub-par design. Sometimes they seem to improve, other times seem to go backwards.

I've tried this and didn't work, don't know what I'm doing wrong but no shower for us tonight i think. We have an ecotec pro.. don't know exactly where to tap, which one is the gas valve...
We cannot advise non engineers. You may however find what is the gas valve from the installation manual.

I will never buy Valiant again. This gas valves are just crap I'm about to order 3rd in 8 years.
Strange design flaw, however suspect it's something to do with the internal rubber material having a problem with our moisture ridden gas supplies, binding internally. JK
Can’t see where your banging?
Hi, Apologies, realised after the video was shot. But basically, it's carefully on the gas valve itself with a rubber ended tool. Your just agitating the valve, to trigger it to release the seating. You must not cause damage to it or make it leak in anyway. This must be carried out by a qualified person, we cannot accept any responsibility for any damage caused, as this is purely an informational video. JK

how are all you people knocking on the gas valve without taking the case off the boiler? you need to be gas safe registered to take the case off a boiler. if you are not you are breaking the law.
