what you say about how pro musicians have to approach their work is similar to what I've heard from a lot of the great session musicians, i.e. The Wrecking Crew, Michael Omartian, and Tim Pierce, just to name a few.
and "guilded cage" reminds me of the first verse of Limelight by Rush...
