Used Reason exclusively for so long, shortcuts have muscle memory so i move so fast in it. Hard to change just because of speed of use.

Been using Cubase since it was on the Atari ST and its easily the “best” by far to me, however ive pushed myself to learn Protools, Ableton Live, Reason and Logic to the point where im comfortable with any of them and know how to get anything done. The video certainly identifies workflow as the key point of differentiation. Live in particular does stand out as markedly different (you cannot assign arranger track markers to midi as an improvisation method in cubase the way Live works with clips for example). I think Logic’s content and stock plugins are hard to go past for a new user, altho ultimately like Protools the midi editing is not great, and the audio editing not in par with either Cubase or Protools. I also spent an absurd amount of time a/b’ing the warp algorithms and i would put Live (somewhat ironically) toward the bottom of the list with Cubase and Tools higher. I haven’t invested a huge amount of time with Reaper or Studio One, just enough to navigate. I do think its kinda funny that Studio One seems to attract disaffected Cubase users, its definitely good though. Also Reaper is so fugly theres a huge theme culture around it, a lot if live sound production favors Reaper as a solid recording contingency and id agree, HOWEVER ANY DAW that hosts open standard plugins can NEVER be considered ‘rock solid’, thats a fantasy fan boys tell themselves based on very limited experience. Reason makes a great example if this, it was literally bomb proof before hosting vst. Standards arent always adhered to, the moment you introduce third party plugins, the risk gies right up! No exceptions. Rant over, happy to hear some different impassioned pov’s

Many new producers listen to a song they love and automatically assume that song was created by a single person or a one take session from start to finish. What we all don't realize is that there's probably 10 or more other songs that were produced and the one your are hearing is there best track , The others all get trashed in the bin.. No artist creates a hit without creating tons of tracks that will never see the light..

What DAW should someone learn if they don't have Logic and want to work with sheet music? While Pro Tools remains popular, many other DAWs exist. In the end, the most expensive audio hardware and software can't guarantee a good song. However, in a professional setting, workers have to collaborate on the same project using the same software. You might be a video editing prodigy, but if you apply to video production studios in LA with iMovie on your resume, well... 😅 Cubase, FL Studio, Reaper, Ableton Live, Bitwig, and countless other DAW's might be popular among audiophiles, but if it's not used professionally, what do you do? Some DAW's will eventually dethrone Pro Tools and Logic. Over a decade ago, I used Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro. When I applied to work at the News as a Producer, they used Avid across the board - Media Composer and Pro Tools, and Avid hardware only. They loved my work, but I didn't get the job. 😅

All DAWs sound the same. But some have different features. And all look and work differently. Unfortunately, we have to try them all and see which one sticks. Which one feels better with a good workflow and time saving features. I love Logic, but lately, it has been giving me grief. Especially with Dolby Atmos. I don’t like the internal renderer so I was using Fiedler Composer. But, Logic has track sync problems while monitoring. Then, I looked at Studio One which is awesome! But I don’t want to spend the cash right now. So, I have had the $60 license for Reaper for years. Tried it out and it works great for Atmos with Fiedler. But, I really don’t like using multiple DAWs. I’ve also paid for Mixbus years ago and it crashed too regularly. Not even going to test out Cuebase because $500? No thanks.

I used the dice technique to pick a key & mode. 2-sided die are easy to find and for the mode, either use a 6-sided one (because who really writes in Locrian?), or an 8-sided one where you just re-roll on an 8
