This has to be one of the best gear reviews ever. I come back and watch it again every year or so.
OK fine I'll buy it already. christ.
This video probably single handedly accounted for 1000 sales of that unit.
"It's a funky little bastard" **GOLD**
The moment I subscribed :-)
*GOLD*
I just ordered mine. The Crown Jewel of my system. I decided to build a Eurorack synth because of this very video. Now I am "almost done" with a 9U 104HP + 3U 90HP system. What a beautiful, crazy world I have entered... Came back to say thank you!
+Sean Hornibrook That's awesome Sean, thanks, and welcome!!
SYNTHS!! I'm at your starting point now with the same inspiration. I'm sold!!!
show us your system somedays !
aaaahahahahaha!!!! you are NEVER done !!!!
It’s July 2018 - wonder what you have by now...
that cardboard case is a dream... HOW CAN YOU AFFORD THIS!?!?!?!
I'll leave this here... ua-cam.com/video/mf0Z34LJ8Y8/v-deo.html
dude, thanks!
At 06:33 I pulled out my credit card...
I'll say this once then off my soapbox. This video is absolutely stunning....
THIS IS the very ESSENCE of the ART of Electronic Music and the random nature of analog circuity which makes it such an absolute joy to create and hear..parts of this video brought me to tears... the random nature of control voltage non-linearity is just so absolutely beautiful and breath-taking...nothing is ever the same twice and hence, why it is TRUE ART in its most simple , honest and raw form.
!!!
Couldn't agree more! The #1 ingredient for creating fabulous art is the amount of passion you have for the subject. This is a great example of a simple video which turns out to be masterpiece of someone who drives such a passion towards what he is doing, and took the time to document some of it as well.
Speaking of random, I'm looking for a module that is small and does random CV. I only find a lot of random GATE, but I want random CV like the Mother-32 outputs it in one of the modes in its ASSIGN output. Anyone knows a module that does that? Even Intellijel random source only seems to output random GATES, not cv.
VictorSteiner - Turing Machine? Also have a look at the Disting Mk4, it does pretty much everything!
Left Mono aaah thanks! I have a disting but in my head it is a delay or reverb. Thanks! The random modes all seem to have special shenanigans but maybe one feels good.
This is the funniest music tech review I've ever seen. Bravo.
You're brilliant, mate.
Still one of the best demos of all time going into 2024
09:51 Orbital!! This must be the ultimate sequencer, perfect demo thanks.
now it all comes back, you are the dude who made a tutorial about how to built a synth case from cardboard years ago ...
you sir, are one in a billion, great show.....
This is a really terrific demo video. One of the best I've seen. Funky little bastard indeed!
Half the reason this video is awesome is because this guy is creating such badass, awesome-sounding sequences
Even now, anytime I listen to this I'm immediately overwhelmed by the urge to jam out with my Metropolis. This groove hits so hard.
🙌💃
I am sincerely amused by the fact that I “found” and watch this cool Metropolis demo now after 4 years of modular twiddling. Not that I hadn’t seen or even considered Metropolis before. But you bring it to life really. Thanks!
Bought one. I've eaten enough this month anyway.
That thwack against the module at the beginning! Wonderful!
Love your videos and this is the best one I've seen yet! Amazing!
Wonderful! Thanks for taking the time and effort to create this!
7:35 I could literally listen to this all day
Love the hardcore cardboard case. Awesome wee unit. Of the top 5 Eurorack modules that I would love to use, this is in that list. Sweet.
Mylar, your vids are fueled with such a love and passion for what you are doing. I always get inspired when watching you play with something you are literally tripping on.
I'm currently on hold from someone who is selling a used Metropolis, and watching your video made me itch so much to have it in my hands. Might just have to spurge for a new one if it doesn't come through.
this is ABSOLUTELY the type of video I want to see. Great work!
for the first time modular synthesis made sense to me, and for the first time im thinking of starting my own modular system... :)
thanks for the video and insights!
cheers from brasil!
+Ciclus Live No worries - DO IT!
I lusted after Ryk's sequencer pretty hard back when I had one a five-module 100m setup. I'm happy to see that Intellijel has licensed it because, as your video demonstrates, it deserves a wider audience.
Wave Strike's comment about "Top Gear" is spot-on. The tone and pacing are very slick, and you've clearly spent some time with it. Excellent video.
One of the best - if not the best - demonstration performance video I have ever seen. Thank you!
mylarmelodies i just came back to watch this again. Ive had metro for a few months now and its still ridiculously fun. I didnt “get” all the various features of sequencers, and I realized this wasnt ideal for drums (at least more than 1 track of drums...so, drum?), so i have other sequencers now for drums (primarily euclidean circles v2-also brilliant), but the metropolis is still so unique and immediate and tactile. You have been an instrumental and wonderful guide on my eurorack journey. I follow everything you post; its always rad, smart and usually funny. Thank you!
Definitely love the demo, and the skiff's surround is also fairly unique. I especially love the section where you bring in Pressure Points and show just how much fun it can be not to mention royally mess everything up in a great way ^_^
I've seen, and drooled over, this video probably 34 times since I ordered a Metropolis a couple of weeks back. It's still just as mesmerizing as the first time I saw it. Someone should hire you to promote their gear.
One of the best demonstrations and explanations I've seen of this module. Very musical presentation
This is a fantastic video. I've thought about getting one of these modules for a long time but couldn't place exactly what it was that attracted me to it. You nailed. Thanks. I hope you get free stuff for these videos!
this is one of the best sounding, coolest and must fun devices i ever had the chance of playing around with! The quality of the sound blew my head away!
I already have a Tip Top z8000, but after catching your demo, you had me sold! I couldn't resist and am already in line at Analogue Haven for a Metropolis - brilliant demo! Your command of the module is awe-inspiring!
Heh I just got a Z8000! Z8000 makes a good partner for sticking into the Metropolis's CV Inputs, for transpose etc!
Best module demo ever! Back story and everything. You pretty well sold me on this bad boy :)
I originally thought the Metropolis was going to go over my head (kinda like the Rene by Make Noise did). Your video explains everything so well. It seems like it is laid out very well and easy to use. I just placed an order. Can't wait to get it. Thanks so much for your time in putting this together.
"it's a funky little bastard" - I completely agree!
I wonder if anyone has sampled him saying that yet... I call Dibs! ;)
Wow the sequence at around 9.40 is excellent!!
I like how he still has it inside the box while he is using it! Thanks for this demo btw!
I think this cardboard case is one of the best and most funny looking cases I´ve seen ! And great demo !
I like how this is a musical demo as opposed to all of those random synth noise videos that don't really show off the product as efficiently as you do. Good job!
Completely incredible bit of hands on fun, huge applause to the creators making this a reality.
best sequencer demo I've seen
just got mine after seeing your videos for a year or so...this is a rare module here, now I'm back to get the basics from this monster
thanks
🙌 it’s a beast still!
This is one of my favourite videos on UA-cam. I have watched it at least 10 times...
Very amusing, interessting, informative and good Quality Video. Love your dry Humor - watched this a couple of times. Keep it up mate, cheers from Switcherland :)
This is fast becoming my favourite video ever.
Great video of a great sequencer. Thanks for posting this.
Nice one Pete, thanks for watching!
This made me buy a Metropolis.
that pressure points combo seems like a great idea.
Amazing demo and an amazing module, dank you for sharing!
Best gear demo i've ever seen! (GREAT, another thing to add to my want list!)
More videos please: this is by far the best eurorack vid I have seen, and as a modular noob, I would welcome some more interesting and inspiring vids with a nice side of humour. Thanks.
Expertly done video for a great little sequencer!
Great demo of a fantastic module, thanks for sharing.
I was back and forth between this and a varigate but you described this as a funky little bastard and that was it, ordered.
this device's workflow seems very interesting.
nice video with some nice history about the concept!
yeah ok i am a little in love with this. everyone seems to be out of stock.. which is for the best since i cannot afford to splurge cos i work in music and film.. where the money is fictional
Even watching it has expanded my sequencing inspiration. It's amazing what randomness can do.
God damn. You're probably the best example of why contemporary modular synths are great. I show your vids to people when they go "modular wha?".
Great demo. I want one now. Currently building my Semi-Modular rack.
Great demo, great explanation and an even greater piece of gear!
Really love your videos, mate.
Cheers for being Captain Fuckin' Awesome.
Yo! Great video. Thanks so much. I'm the newbest of the newbs when it comes to modular but this kinda stoked the fire and made me excited to get my sequence on. Thanks!
"Funky little bastard" =gold!
Love it… demonstrated like that, I can’t believe no-one thought of doing it before. Such a simple concept with a terrifying range of possibilities..
P.S. Love the cardboard rack :-)
I love how this works. It can imagine it seems to find those techno rhythms and melodies so easily like it's writing them itself. I kind of wish it had 16 steps especially given that hefty price tag.
7:36 Love that bit "it's a funky little bastard" xD
Rewatching this ready for an evening with mine :-) thanks so much!!!
Great video. Gosh you make me want one. Please keep making videos.
Really great music/video/presentation, also really like the cardboard box case you made for it... NIce

Killer video! Thanks for sharing. Like the gold knobs on the PP too - ACE!
Fantastic Demo!
I too saw those 185 videos and had a little middle tear : ( a few years ago.
Things are looking brighter now...if I had the money.
what an awesome sequencer!!!
man! your videos are so good :) THANK YOU!
great demo
sick sequencer
well done
Very nice tutorial. Looks like many many capabilities. Well thought out by someone smart. Thanks.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure i'm getting it...lol Thanks for making the video. Just what I was looking for, and I'll come back to relearn your helpful tricks. Thanks again.
Is that a Cardboard box Case? Wicked!! Respect! Good review mate!
Oh, this is sweet!! I love how this works. This really makes me want to take the plunge into modular. However, I do have the MiniBrute, MicroBrute and MS-20 Mini that it could control.
Watching this AGAIN while sat awaiting the delivery of mine.... :)
I HAVE A DESIRE! I am sure the Metropolis funkybox cooperates with the 0-Coast like they were made for each other. I would love to listen to you plaing around with those wonder machines. Greetings from Germany!
Hey, you're the guy who gave that Maths lesson on Modular Monthly! I like your style, hence subbed!
Some truly brilliant rhythms there..
Just finding my way with modular synths and this video is brilliant. .....I want one.
This sequencer is still so fresh! Being able to reduce the gate time via knob to nothing and skip steps is something so powerful. Incredible demo. Feel like this is more in the spirit of how I make music than metropolix. Less depth but more immediacy, and less information on screens. That and I’s probably get the metropolix if I could afford to get so spendy.
Did this sequencer change the way you looked at sequencing in modular at all? I guess we all have our different ways to get away from the 8 steps repeating forever. Thought I have some ways, I don’t quite have the predictability of complex patterns repeating at warp speed such as this. Thanks for teaching so so much!
I'm finding my way into modular synths & this is a great vid 2 make up my mind!!
Great video, very inspirational
build the m185 from ryk a few years ago... but Intellijel really takes it to the next level... Grand!
Damn you....I first saw this in operation at Schneidersladen last week, and now your epic video has made me pull the trigger. Didn't think I needed a fourth sequencer, but foolish me underestimating the power of Eurocrack....
excellent video thank you for this
Very nice demo, really in depth. Nice cardboard synth case, it may set a trend.
Cool demo!
Our favourite review of the Metropolis! Certainly a sequencer not to be reckoned with...
Wow this part is awesome, respect to the inventor
It goes up to eleven! Really! (At 5:14 where he sets it to 11 stages.)
I love your vids, great quality and clearly you know your shit. Keep it up, and thanks!
Thanks Nick
Damnit! You got me too! Wanna have for xmas! Thanks for this great video!!
Just rewatched this... This case is hilarious!!!
Seriously cool! Love the cardboard housing!! :)
