    I had 60 secs per page. I practiced with the materials provided from the company but they were letters, capitals and lowercase and the sample base was a lot less than the ones they provided on test day with the 4 dots. I just got my results yesterday. Passed all the other tests apart from the Bourdon. I’m happy I gave it a go and that for everything else my prep didn’t fail me, but I don’t think I’ll return in six months. I’m sure my life will go in other directions

      I’m on my way back from the assessment centre - got literally 100% on everything else and was “3 marks” off the Bourdon Test. Been invited back in 6 months - I’m not sure I will despite it being my dream job.
      Good luck mate

    Don’t worry about this. I actually did this test with a hangover. When the EU licence was introduced all drivers had to take this test again in Belgium. I’d gone on the piss the evening before thinking I didn’t have to work the next day. Only when I got home I noticed the test on my roster. Thought I was buggered as I got pretty sauces, yet the next day my hangover caused me not to care much with the idea I would just be sent back to do it again if I failed. When it was over I was told I had a well above average score. I guess the lesson of this story is, DON’T STRESS about it... oh, and check your diary before going to the pub... the bright light of the eye test was a little less fun.... I do remember the doctor asking me if I’d had a bit of a party... LOL
    Happy days, young and stupid. I’d take it much more serious now I’m older and have more responsibilities than in my 20’s. But it just goes to show, it’s not as hard as they make it out to be.

    Just a quick question.. on paper do you circle each box containing 4 or just count total per row and overall total?

    Does anybody know the actual times of this particular test. I think this will be the one that tests my ability the most. I have my tests this Thursday in Manchester. I have practice papers which are all alphabetic based and not these dots. Tonight and tomorrow after work, I'm going to hit hard on this one the most.

    what are the limitations of this test? for example I think that if the participant can track the boxes with his finger or with the arrow mark of the computer it might be involved variable OR the pressure factor is destroying the pure concentration ability

    No disrespect to train drivers what so ever..... but all these crazie tests are just bull shit. If you can drive an artic lorry threw a city centre during rush hour you can press go and stop buttons on a track with no cycles, people, scooters, moterbikes and drivers who have no licence.. its just a way of keeping people from getting a well paid career. OK obviously there Is more than just pressing buttons but ye get where am coming from.

    • @JulianShagworthy
      @JulianShagworthy Рік тому +3

      As a former HGV driver I'm very sympathetic to truckers, but high speed train driving absolutely involves a different skill set. Driving an artic around Tabernacle Street in EC1A requires intense concentration, but in fairly short bursts. It's stop/go/stop/go. A lot of people genuinely struggle to keep that concentration up for more than 5 minutes or so, but they're given a break at every red light or clear stretch of road etc. Arguable the stakes are higher driving a truck around London (after all, forget to cancel the AWS on a train and the brakes come on, no harm done except to your career...), but to operate a HST safely AND efficiently on the mainline truly does require 100% concentration for 1-2 hours or more at a time, it's an unrelenting stream of information and scenarios requiring your timed response. Again, a LOT of skills are transferable between the two trades undoubtedly, but I'd wager almost any mainline train driver could drive a HGV to a high standard (with the correct training), whereas I know plenty of truckers who shouldn't be let anywhere near a HST...

      @luke You can’t even concentrate enough to notice your spelling mistakes. So how are you going to notice train signals?
      If you can’t even perform such a basic task such as writing a UA-cam comment without errors, how can you be trusted to drive a train with hundreds of passengers? It says a lot about your standards.
