As a train driver for GBRf, I can honestly say that I love my job, I have driven both simulator and real class 66. You did great and glad you enjoyed your day. Stay safe Daniel
22:40 "I realized the customer is always right so therefore I tried to get to the job as early as possible." Priceless. Daniel, for a first time in a simulator of that level you did good.
"Somebody parked their van along the way, but you know when people need their material, they need their material, so the van was removed from the train line by force" best line this episode 😂 Great video
love how positive you always are man, like the how well you'll do, not how bad you'll do, little things like that really change the mindset for the better. thanks for always staying positive man.
As a newbie in the world of construction and health and safety, im doing my NEBOSH CONSTRUCTION and your contents have been of invaluable help in understanding the course and prepping me for the exams and practicals. One love
As a class 66 technician you showed pretty good control and better than I see from some of the professionals at some points, key thing to remember is that the brakes don’t react instantly either on or off like a car. It takes more anticipation. Valiant effort though
Daniel you are not normal, that is intended as a sincere compliment. Inspiring and interesting as always. Glad you had fun, that was great. Fun fact for you, it would take nearly 3,300 of your train deliveries to deliver the equivalent weight of the largest pyramid which weighed nearly 6 million tons, remember they moved it all with just people power, shows what can be done with the right motivation, lol
Well explained while in the simulator, i enjoyed that as speaking on step by step is handy for remembering. Thank you im glad i came across your video :)
I’ve been a train driver now for 3 years and the training was the hardest and most intense thing I’ve ever done. That being said it’s also the best job I’ve ever had and will ever have. Great money, great perk and loads of time off I’d recommend it to anybody 👍🏻
Yeh in the real world if your unfortunate enough to have this incident it’s a full service brake application and blasting the horn, not much else you can do sadly, I’d personally be straight out of the cab to put as much distance between myself and the crash, you’d also make an emergency call to immediately stop all trains in the area and summon emergency services, you would not move the train, great video all the same though
Love this video! I used to collect the old Hornby train sets as a kid and people used to bully me, nice to see that I’m not the only one interested in trains and planes, Daniel Ashville you are a legend!
I know this was two years ago but I really enjoyed watching this, good serious commentary all the way through explaining what you were doing, loved the moon walking bit with the “stop the train now” from the signaller… 😂
Nwwww what a lucky guy you are! I never ever had the chance to drive in a real train simulator with all the realistic Instruments and so on. I´m officially jealous ^^
Great show ashville. I hope that you would consider buying a Class 60 Diesel Locomotive in the future. They are fantastic trains like the Class 66's :). GBRF are a great company to deal with and I would love to have a go at driving that simulator myself :).
this was great, made me laugh :) . as for owning your own train, try getting hold of one thats heading for scrap, but aim for one thats not needing too much work doing on it....something like been scrapped due to no longer needed. all in all it all, it depends what you got for budget use. ive known many a bus/train enthusiast (more bus than train though) that buy up their own....you got the addition of knowing folks in the industry, and that can be a great help at times.
Well done, its not easy, so much to remeber. On the road stopping is not much of a problem with a train not so fast and your destroy anything in the way before you stop, nice video
Wow is that train layout your Daniel? I just bought a train set. Every year since 1976 when the intercity 125 rolled out, I asked my parents for a train set of one but I never got one, maybe because I was a girl, I don't know 🤷🏼♀️ but anyway last month I just bought my first, a Virgin intercity 125 at 50 years old!! Yes that's me, not the age of the train. My children are now adults and they've had the same train fascination as me. I spent their childhood parking near level crossings and stations. I am so happy to finally have my train, I need my husband to get some plywood for my track to be tacked onto. I am so envious of your experience Daniel. I'd love to just be a passenger on a train, it would make me so happy.
mhm the crash was only avoidable going slower... but just going slow for the just if case ... normally a driver would get notice of obstacles or the signaller gets called an puts a red light up then the driver calls the signaller and the signaller tells him there is an obstacle... and he might be able to go on a sidetrail for that section... or gets allowance to pass red at 5-10kmh with caution...
When I was a child I used to fall a sleep listening to the gravity fed shunting yard, the clunk of waggons connecting together, when we moved it took an age to get used to the silence.
Daniel you're probably absolutely excited about your train driver experience at GBR frieght, lovely stuff 👏😎👏 Your next mission if you wish to choose as you're near the major internatonal Airports see if British Airways could fit you in for flying Simulator experience that's always been in my wishlist to fly a 737cargo air frieght lol
That was an awesome video! The only thing i noticed is that you underestimate how low the friction is with trains. Once you're up to speed you can just cut the power and you'll keep going barely losing any momentum. Awesome job moonwalking out of the station though!
Had no idea Daniel could fly a plane! So impressive you find the time to do all these things, it's like time moves at a different speed for you!? Next year Daniel trains to become an Astronaut. Probably not the best idea to touch someone's mic with your finger..
While the brakes are on air, the major difference between trucking and trains is inertia. Trucks tend to deal with steeper grades much more often than trains due to the nature in how they are on the rails. You can leave a train in neutral and coast for quite a long time without throttle application, whereas in a truck you need to spool the turbo to hold steady speed more often than not. Good try! In real life, there's zero you could've done differently about that van, and the signaler would've done their best to warn you first! They were playing with you haha. :)

That's awesome my dream job
What else do you sign?
@@TomMaddox888 most of east mids, crewe, parts of Wales to the Black Country, Notts, Doncaster..
Did it for 10 years boring job train driving absolutely mind numbed my brain couldn’t do it anymore. Resigned this year.
@@Matt-wr9cc that’s a shame, I love my job, I drive freight which is a very varied day to day role, it does keep it interesting
GBRf should give Daniel a cab ride in a actual class 66 to his yard so he can experience it first hand. Would make for a great video
Yeah good one, Shotgun ride from the yard to Ashville.
Agreed!
indeed
just dont put a van on the line
Good idea
22:40 "I realized the customer is always right so therefore I tried to get to the job as early as possible." Priceless.
Daniel, for a first time in a simulator of that level you did good.
All aboard the Serious Express
😂 good one
Good one 😂😂😂😂
Drive Class 220 voyager cross country
If Daniel says that he wants his own train, you know in a few years, he will have his own train!!
Daniel: Buys Class 66
Also Daniel: Calls it Asheville Express.
Yet again Daniel: Asheville’s his locomotive
Class 66 in black and gold i can imagine
And Yanni will probably wrap it 😂
AS of right now, only railroads can have locos and cars. its impossible (r/woooosh)
@@fostoriadistrictrailfan3907 nothing is impossible for Daniel Louisy
The one dislike was pissed outside Ashville protesting about a train
Nah the guy who got hit by the train 🚊
there are now 20 dislikes
The other dislikes are from train drivers worried that Ashville will take their jobs now that he's a professional train driver. :-)
there are now 66 dislikes... rather ironic.

"Somebody parked their van along the way, but you know when people need their material, they need their material, so the van was removed from the train line by force" best line this episode 😂
Great video
And the dude in the blue never even cracked a smile man I rolling 😂🤣
That cheeky look out the window when you stalled it at the station to see if anyone was looking 😂😂
Great video, I’m a driver of 6 years and love my job, you display just how much is involved in getting the train moving and keeping it in motion
"Hello i m Daniel from Ashville .. i have green signal now ! and i m on the yard... waiting for unloading!!! "
keep doing it !!!
As if the man doesn’t do enough now he’s moonlighting as a train driver 😂
Because Desperate Dan is Serious
jack of all trades
Moonwalking* haha
I think you are a real role model for young people you are humble and kind.
Well done brother
Mans Serious. He’s gonna make a train line from his house to the yard 🤣

Brilliant vid Daniel! well done and respect to the train drivers not as easy as i thought!!
Daniel has the air and land covered. Now all he is missing is the sea lol.
Man is seeerious!
I am a train control officer from South Africa this was a fun watch.
There is nothing more exciting than driving a real train simulator and driving the real thing also its a amazing feeling
I love it
Well done Daniel
Daniel with that big brain, fast learner, a smooth criminal as he moonwalks that train.
As a class 66 technician you showed pretty good control and better than I see from some of the professionals at some points, key thing to remember is that the brakes don’t react instantly either on or off like a car. It takes more anticipation. Valiant effort though
Daniel smile was like a child's in a sweetshop. Love the content mate keep up the hard work. U know man is serious when It comes to trains
Nicely done, entertaining, fellow train driver here, glad you had fun!
Mans "serious", he wants Ashville's own train when he expands his business
And After the he will have his own quary and will deliver goods to all over GB
If he gets his own train, he's gonna be driving it more time than terry is in bed asleep
Well done say the timing for the brakes with the weight is hard to get used too
Love this upload! You’re such an inspiration and kudos to you. “I’ll never simplify another mans trade” respect!
Mate you are exactly what the model rail hobby needs...taken a hit recently what with one thing and another. Great vid.
Daniels seriousness just stepped up another level 💪🏻👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
As a driver I can confirm, driving trains is easy. It’s the rule book with all the things you need to know when shit goes wrong that is the hard bit 🙃
"WAIT!" :P
It's so hard
The easy part of train driving is making mistake’s, the hardest part is not making mistakes!
Keep pushing forward and inspiring along the way Daniel 🙆♂️
Can't wait for the Ashville class 66 👍 get it done.
Congratz Daniel at getting one of you bucket list ticked off hope you enjoyed it from Ireland
After watching this video I have much more appreciation for train drivers how they have to be focused on their work

Something about these and other train sims can help people learn and can teach people, we have come a long way!
Looks really complicated, great video mate keep it up always love the content. More like this kind of content please.
As a signaller i cringed when you started heading back out the station
I wished the GSMR calls and especially the REC had the proper sound, the fecking Klaxon going off could wake the dead.
This dude makes Hustling look easy. RESPECT!!!
When the customer pays for express shipping theres no time to waste for stranded civilians. You did the right thing.

The van bit seemed ridiculous? Absolutely no chance of stopping unless you were going inappropriately slowly surely?

In all SERIOUSness, lots of older shunting locomotives are going up for sale at the moment. Daniel, be on the lookout 👀.
