Hi Alan, I know carp are pests, however they certainly are fun to catch. I really enjoy catching them. I mostly use a 2-5kg rod, 3000 reel and 14lb braid. I have caught a 58cm with a 6lb leader which was amazing fun!
Hang in there mate, just think what the restrictions will have done for the fisheries. Mind you I think they will need armed guards at the boat ramps when the restrictions are lifted to keep things in order.
Awesome video Alan 👍🏼 good to see you back out there man. Yea these 5km travel restrictions are annoying. I can’t really go to many places and fish to be honest because of them. On Sunday the premier is supposed to announce some more info about outdoor activities so we will see what happens then.
What's the name of the lake? I'm from westside of melbourne and usually fish along altona and williamstown... Wouldn't mind catching some carp? Great video! Hope we get out of this lock down soon!
you should try float fishing for carp in calm conditions, it is a lot of fun, I have caught my biggest carp on a float coming in at about 2 kilos and about 65 - 70cm with a few bits of corn under the float, it is really exciting watching the float go under.
Hi Allan love your videos after restrictions ease could you do a video fishing at the warmies rocks and Geelong st Helena rocks Try targeting snapper thx
Thanks !!! I would love to do a few feature vids at the warmies and St Helens for snapper 100%.Stay tuned, ill get something out once restrictions are lifted
Thankyou for the video bro,I really enjpyed it and found that you dont hesitate to give the people the good oil on bait fishing for carp. Would love to see a video on fly fishing for carp around Melbourne?! Ive had a crack at them at Albert Park Lake on the Fly with a Three time loser status but the yellowbelly have been more cooperative. Doyou go the carp on fly thing mate?
Hi Greg thanks for the positive comment. I do all styles of fishing but will admit I really haven't done much with fly fishing yet. I have some mates who love fly fishing and who have been very successful with it. I have to give it a serious go one of these days
@@fishingmad Cool bro! I think you will love it. Its fun n challenging just like lure fishing but different. All my best wishes for your fishing and media endevours! Love your work bro
Hi Alan, Great video, shows that you don't need to travel far to catch fish. Even though we don't have much choice. Also that lot of fish for a 2 hour session. Any tips to get the fish to come to you?
Thanks Nicky, I'm doing my best in tough circumstances. There is always an element of luck when fishing, during this session we caught only 1 fish in the first 30 minutes than 15 fish in the following 90 minutes. I spoke to others who went to the same spot later that day and caught nothing. I wish I had a secret that made the fish start biting. Its just a case of rigging up correctly and doing all the little things right and hoping the rest falls into place. I hope that helps. best regards Al
Pinkies are fishing really well already. The past few weeks reports have been going crazy. Only issue is we cant get out there just yet. Plenty of people are out in boats and kayaks but i have no idea how you can be out in a boat or kayak for less then 2 hours. The fishing will only get better and better as the water temperature gets warmer.
Hey Allen would it not be good to have some lakes that will let us release the carp to grow to the big size we see in Europe and actually make it a real fishery and we can get more people into fishing?
Its a really interesting idea. I know lot of people hate carp passionately and the thought of releasing them will anger them. I tend to agree with you i think in certain lakes in a controlled way it could work really well. Have programs built around educating people and taking kids to a spot where they can easily catch big fish. Its always a very interesting topic.
I agree. Coming from the UK where as a kid I used to love carp fishing from common, to mirror to crusian. Great species to fish and I hate having to kill them over here but understand why. Is there a “humane” way of doing it?
That area looks very familiar...I do alot of deliveries for medium density at work..this looks like one of those new estates...any clues as to where this is? Cheers mate!!

hey mate im wondering how you dispose of the carp. do you put them in the nearest bin or take them home and put them in your personal bin? theres nothing worse than having the smell of dirty carp in your car
Yeah i usually take a few garbage bags and dispose of them in the bins nearby. That way they dont need to go in the car. Some lakes actually have bins for the carp. People used to say take them home and use them as fertilizer. I did that once and can report they don't decompose
I used to use maggots for bait for everything. Bream, Mullet, Gars, trevally, and freshwater too. Carp, Roach and Tench loved em in the warm months. And I used to use Carp to breed my own maggots. It wasn't very pleasant and now I wonder how my mum and dad put up with the smell of rotten, fly infested carp hanging in the back yard!
I can so relate to this comment. A couple of years ago I too grew my own maggots which were dynamite as bait on so many species. Especially bream, but also on trout, carp, gars, perch etc. I also dont know how my wife put up with it.
