Hi everyone, hope you are all well. It’s been a while, I know! 😆 I made this video to address some of the misinformation I’ve seen surrounding period blood colours. It’s been a labour of love; I’ve poured hours upon hours into what you see here in it’s seven minute form. I hope you enjoy it, gain a better understanding of period blood colours or at least learn something new.

Thank you for reminding ladies that it’s good to pay attention to what comes out of you! Education is a key to health. 14 years ago my period discharge began to look strange to me. Pieces of tissue mixed in with watery blood that was a funny pink. I went to my Gynecologist who said it was good that I noticed. I had stage 1 endometrial cancer. Had surgery. That took care of it. Hurray. Thanks again.
If u see ur period 2 times in a month

This conversation should totally be had in my country, Kenya. There's a lot of period stigma and putting the conversation on the table has been so hard - the stigma is so much so that many young girls drop out of school out of embarrassment and period poverty, like, they cannot afford pads or relevant alternatives consistently, (in one extreme case in mid 2022, a 14yo committed suicide because boys and male teachers in her school saw a stain on her dress, she ran home and hung herself leaving a note that she couldn't go back to that school cos she can't face her peers as they saw her blood!) Some in the rural are so misinformed by culture, they believe they should get married when they first see their menstrual period as they are now 'full women', and they actually drop out of school to get married. Feb 2023, a female legislator (Member of Parliament) literally had to get dramatic and go to parliament in "stained" white trouser suit, somewhat picketing in a silent way, just to make a point and bring the conversation to the table... Even then, her female counterparts (especially), as well as the male, castigated her and I was shocked!
I am loving every bit of this discussion and looking forward to more.❤️
Following from Kenya.
That is so heartbreaking. Very sad for the young girls who cannot properly get their needs met for this.
That’s so so sad 😢
I can’t imagine getting my period and not knowing anything about it, that would be terrifying, you’d think you were dying 😖 the poor girls/women
Love what the female rep did, it went viral as I saw it here in Nigeria. So sad what people go through as a result of misinformation
I haven't had my period for months now, i went to see the gynae and he gave me primolut to take for a couplr of days and it came. After that, i never saw my period again.
Just this week, i noticed my period is coming, but it's not the usual.
It's brown and clothy and just in tiny bits since i started to now (day 4) . What do i do?
Finally something many women think about but are too shy to ask and talk about. Thank you for helping make normal things normal.
I’m an OBGYN ultrasound tech and I wish all my patients could see this.
Can’t tell you how many patients we get for ultrasound bc of the period being a different color or consistency or pausing for a day then ending brown or starting brown.
Even before becoming a tech I had this and always instinctively knew it was normal. Just made sense. When blood is exposed to the air it turns brown. I never once worried about it or went to the doctor for it. But sooooo many women do!
I’m glad to see channels like this educating women.
So I don’t know if the Dr herself will see this or not but I wanted to let her know just how much I feel she’s helping not only myself but others like me. My mother was not one to explain my body or how it worked. I’m a month shy of my 34th birthday and only just a few months ago learned why I “couldn’t” urinate with a tampon in….. I’m too well endowed and need adjusting.
As a grown woman asking questions that many children know the answer to, it’s embarrassing to the point I just don’t ask. Google doesn’t give the kind of answers that are actually helpful and I feel lost.
In just 4 videos you’ve taught me more than my 33 years and lifetime of education and doctor visits taught me. I can’t thank you enough.
Thank you for being so vulnerable 🫶🤍 honestly this is an unspoken really with most girls and women, especially those raised by women of an older generation !! They really don’t talk enough or at all to us about this
@@itslihlelanga thank YOU for not making me feel like I should have known, and not normalizing and continuing this belief that we don’t have to educate our children. ❤️
Hi, I'm so curious about your comment. I hope you don't mind me asking, but, when you say you can't urinate while wearing a tampon, do you mean you're physically unable? Or just that you shouldn't do it?
@@AshleysTarotCorner why wouldn't you be able to urinate with the tampon inside you? What you saying you well endowed, never heard a woman say that. How strange 😮
@@stephw3317 Kinda interested in that as well cause you definitely can urinate xd
Re: Purple stains on menstrual pads, it could be "leakage" from the urethra after having eaten red beets in the days prior.
I had slight yellow "leakage" a long time ago on my menstrual pads, before I started doing exercises to strengthen my pelvic floor.
And after I ate red beets for two days in a row, both my urine and my stools turned dark purple for a few days.
If you put both together... Of course it wouldl be rare!
Hello Dr. Simi 💚 could you possibly create a video for the young girlies coming up & beginning their first periods & what to expect as their bodies are changing & how us Mommy’s can have these conversations with our daughters more openly 💖 Thank you abundantly for all you are sharing. I am learning so much from you. As my Mother is no longer Earth side, I am seeking ways to better answer the “big questions” for my daughters and myself as well 🫶🏾
I wish I had your videos when I was younger. I don't get periods anymore but I do enjoy watching your videos because I remembered feeling that panic when I was younger and you have so much knowledge and respect and a very soothing voice that explains it so easily for the rest of us not in the medical industry. Thank you for taking the time in your horrifically busy schedule as a doctor to explain these things for the rest of us. *hearts*

Please could you do a video about the difference between cirvical fluid and vaginal discharge? I previously thought they were two terms for the same thing but from the way you talked about them in this video I am wondering if they might be different things and maybe I should understand the difference.
I had fibroids and I was constantly in pain, it was like a tap, I was producing at least 4 to 5 pint glasses of blood a day, and then, I had a operation to shirink my fibroids and that was the best decision I ever made as I didn't have a life with all the health problems that it caused me, and I was on a loads of medication too, I could say more......

❤️ Dear Dr Adedeji: Could you please do some videos regarding signs to watch out for in or after menopause? Thank you Dr. Simi, this was a very informative video. I'm watching you from Namibia🇳🇦, and your videos are just so educative... so thank you once again.
I was curious about a few things, and was wondering if you could do a video on that if possible. I don't really know if you take requests...
But if you can could you please do a video on cysts, fibroids and endometriosis & the menstrual cycle; do any of these things affect periods in any way, such as blood flow, how heavy/light it is or period cramps, etc.
Hi, 👋🏾how wonderful that you are watching all the way from Namibia! Thank you for your support and for your video request!
I'm 33 soon and we woman should be educateing by someone like this amazing woman in this way about such a important thing as our period in very earlier age Thank you ❤
Dr Simi thank you so very much for this insightful detailed information. I love you, it's really been a while ♥️🍜
Am a virgin at 29 single from birth but my periods have been very painful even before I started mensuration that was when I was fourteen the sign that I was going to start periods was a very sharp painful experience. My periods are regular though just painful and I do see these clots alot. Lately I experience this intense fever before my periods starts it's not easy, it's like when one has Malaria the fever is intense.
Should I get concerned?
I have a question too, what causes painful ovulation and how can I stop it because pain blocks don't work for me. It's just too much😭😭 sometimes I can't even move my legs then after that egg white like fluid comes out I get a relief ☺️
Painful period could be caused by ovarian cyst or endometriosis. I used to experience painful periods that would result to me vomiting, feeling feverish, stooling, migraine and not feeling my legs. I suffered it for years before going for a pelvic ultra sound scan that showed I had ovarian cyst. I saw a gynaecologist afterwards. The rest is history. I suggest you go to a diagnostic center and do an ultrasound scan.
You are right to ask this bc Periods are not supposed to be painful. While painful periods are common, it is a sign that something is off balance, either in your hormone balance or gut health (which can effect reproductive system).
I took a nutritionist who specializes in women's hormones and changed my diet, started taking supplements and cycle syncing, and I can say that my PMS and period symptoms have decreased tremendously. It's amazing how everything is connected.
❤❤❤she is more than a doc She really care for ladies ' health
Dear Dr.simi
Your a blessing to all women, especially ones like me, where taking or being taught the basics was frowned upon and left you feeling disgusted because as your girl/ female you should have automatically knew these things. Since my very first period i had no guidance or advice in what i was, meant or supposed to do, what is normal along with now what do i do? I have always had emotional trauma beginning with my first period because i had to just 'bleed and get on with it' and do what i could do to get through it! I was young then and scared, didnt want to be a girl...there many young women out there who need you in there lives, your knowledge is freedom from feeling embarrassed and alone. God bless you and thank you ❤
After the covid19 vaccine I had massive clots and heavy periods. Nothing has changed over the last 2yrs. I thought everything would go back to normal but it hasn't 😢
Thanks so much ❤❤my lecturer ✍️✍️Dr. Simi,i appreciate 👏👏
Thanks Doc! I did a DNC and polyps removal in May. Since then my period flows heavy for only 2 days without cramps and clears on the 3rd day. Is this normal?
Very normal.your body is in balance
Thank you Dr.Simi this really helps ❤
Hi Doctor Simi!
This video is quite informative. I'm a bit curious about this issue. So what are the likely outcomes of a lady in her mid twenties who has heavy bleeding and regular clotting (like a huge lump) especially on the third day of her period? (The lump comes out once after which the period ends)
I hate when I’m close to my period because I wear pads & sometimes I feel like I just wasted a whole pad because nothing comes out
I feel like using liners would hep if uou feel like ots about to come. I don't have any but Im thinking about getting cloth ones that can be rinsed a d washed at least.
I have heavy periods and very painful periods. Amongst this, I feel exhausted, I have big clots, and I now get migraines. I have spoken to a gynecologist about this...she told me it was normal (she was also trying to push the contraceptive that looks like a T on me too). I told her I'm concerned I've been living with endometriosis my whole life. She just kept repeating that what I was going through is normal. I don't think it's normal at all. I'm very upset that nobody is taking me seriously. Oh and to make it all worse, I apparently, have a 3.5 cm cyst in my uterus. But they cannot surgically remove it unless it's 5 cm and because I'm in my early 30s....Can I just elect to have a hysterectomy? Because I'm really tired of feeling unwell, and being told because I'm young and might want more babies I shouldn't do surgery. Even though, this is my body and my health. I live in Canada too.
Hi Brinny, I have been where you are. It took me years to find a doctor. It's not normal. You can have a laparoscopy done to remove the cyst (depending on its location, hopefully it is not embedded in your uterus) instead of a hysterectomy. Changes to your diet (less meat, more veggies, less sugar), exercise, and medication like Orlissa and Slynd can help. An OBGYN that has the credentials FACOOG and specializes in treating Endometriosis and PCOS is your best bet.
@Lina Iksura thank you Lina. Hopefully I can find the right gynecologist to help me. I appreciate your comment.
It’s not disgusting she says 😅yes it is. Looking from a distance. I must say pretty good to have explanation for these. Thanks for sacrificing your time for us to learn this in more depth.
Hi Doctor Simi!! Your videos have helped me out so much. I've had a question for so long, I got my period at the "normal" age (13 for me) but then after that I rarely got it, (I'm 16 now) last year I dont even get it at all. I'm planning to see my doctor but I'm not sure if its something that I should really worry about.
i think you should see a doctor about it, losing your period can be a sign that you’re not getting enough nutrients for your body to support it. in this case you just need to plan your diet a bit more to make sure you’re getting everything you need :) it could be something more serious though, so i would see a doctor if i were you! better to get it sorted out now while you are young
