Top Ten Secondary Signature Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh

- We all know the ace monsters of our favorite Yugioh series, whether it’s Dark Magician, Neos, Stardust Dragon, etc, but what about those monsters that fall right under them? We want to take a look at the best secondary signature monsters in Yugioh’s history. Sometimes, these are simply the number 2 guys that get used about as much as the ace monsters, while others may have even been the ace before a stronger monster came along. Helping me go through this robust array of monsters are Judgment Meter, Corgian, Sam from DungeonDiveBar, ProfOats, and SyzygySolo.

Jayden’s ace was DEFINITELY…polymerization. He even fused Neos and Yubel before Neos Wiseman had a fusion counterpart
By that logic, yuya ace are actions spells
@@joshfarmer8408 Congrats, you have just learned one of the primary jokes in the community.
@@joshfarmer8408 They are though. Those action cards carried his ass lmao
Neos wise man was a fusion monster in the anime
*Jaiden*
I met Eric Stuart (voice of Kaiba). I have a recording of him holding my obelisk card & saying "It's not a monster, it's a god!"
Fun fact: GX is actually the only time they mention the banlist in the anime. In a brief discussion about the two Envoy monsters they state Chaos Emperor Dragon is banned.
lol, god damn. Imagine being so OP even the cartoon knows your bullshit, in a cartoon FULL of bullshit haha
@@Dre2Dee2 actually GX was the first show to actively follow the IRL banlist, which is why everyone played pot of greed until it was banned and then almost immediately they start playing Avarice or other similar cards
The best thing about Junk Warrior was also that Yusei ended the series with it. Not quasar dragon, shooting star dragon or any of the cards he got because he was a chosen one.
It was Junk Warrior his dependable first Ace that also perfectly symbolizes his philosophy of using every card to its fullest extend.
Not even weak cards are without purpose which is why Junk Warrior gets a power Boost from level 2 or less monsters
It was so awesome to see Junk Warrior defeat Jacks Red Dragon Archfiend with a final Scrap Fist which not only won Yusei the duel but also inspired Scarlight Dragon Archfiends design of having his arm scarred. It was the same Arm that Junk Warrior busted up in their last confrontation
Yup plus for scarlight it's effect counters junk warrior
i'd like to argue that Speed Warrior is Yusei's second ace. the number of times he summoned Speed Warrior turn 1/2 and then got it destroyed just so he could use Junk Synchron to bring it back is unreal
yk what he summoned with junk synchron and speed warrior
JUNK WARRIOR
you now, i never thought of Gearfried the Iron Knight as being even so much as Joey's tertiary ace monster, but thinking about it now, it seems to be his perfect secondary ace. He actually owned the card himself originally rather than taking from someone else, and he used him in major moments of the show. I recall him having a big role against weevil and finishing him off, and he was the monster that would have defeated Marik if not for the shadow realm.
Not to much gearfried the sword master
@@Straven93 oh yes, good point!
This is actually the first one I thought of when I started the video
Joey's entire deck is about putting together a scappy mix of monsters he likes, usually warriors, and cards he's earned through his long journey as a duelist. I consider all the Battle City cards to be his secondary aces because they represent his character arc throughout the series.
I love when Judai brought back flame wingman against Cronos duel in season, a good call back to their first duel in the season
It was
And his duel against yugi
Surprise Baby Dragon didn't get a mention with Joey.
Also, always hated that Jaden basically turned his back on his E-Heroes.
Fr his deck turned into a neo spacian deck with e heroes on the side
Yeah the elemental heros were dun and i think had more potential for design
He didn't turn his back on E-Heroes really. Once he could see his cards again he merged his two decks and his final boss monster is even made by fusing both his Neo and his E-Heroes. It's just that we didn't get the final arc.
I’m keeping Burstinatrix and Bubbleman
@@alexspencer4039 and heres the problem, he didn't really get anything to make both parts of his deck mix aside from the big boi neos.
I’d like to give Summoned Skull an honorable mention as one of Yugi’s secondary aces. This thing took out Weevil, helped take down Rare Hunter, was used to bring out Black Skull Dragon and for Spellbinding Circle baits, and almost took down Pegasus in EPISODE 2 (if it wasn’t for the lousy timer). It also was a part of his deck against the Pharaoh in their final duel so that Yugi would have a 2500 ATK point monster.
Also I believe Summoned Skull was meta back in the day
@@dudono1744 Yes. He was meta because 1 tribute 2500 attack was good and unique for a while. All the other 1 tributes were 2400 like Jinzo and Luster Dragon. Moreso (if you played at school and such) the most common non-tributes were 1800 and the easiest equip was Malevolent Nuzzler which pushed up to 2500 meaning they would have to trade 2 cards for your 1 beatstick. So no matter how you look at it, Summoned Skull was good until the game got faster, roughly when Cyber Dragon came out.
It's also one of the few cards that he had that actually wasn't in grandpa's deck
It was yugi's strongest monster
I read they this was meantioned in the manga
In the manga he usesit against Kaiba on their first duel and its mentioned as one of the most rare cards
Summoned skull was an underrated Ace, Yugi never appreciated him enough
yugi’s ace is gandora, with summoned skull and silent magician as secondary aces
This was a great crew! Everyone knew the cards, anime, and even the manga!!! Listening to this reminds me of how me and my friends used to chat and discuss and joke around too. Great job everyone!
D/D/D are notable to me because their starter deck from 2015?.... 2016? was the last time that I can recall buying real life cards.
22:36 you could say that silent magician and swordsman represent yugi’s growth while gandora represent yugi’s potential.
Wouldn’t it be the other way around
@@Deathmare235 no because the silent monsters grow based on their conditions (swordsman it’s turns passing for magician it’s cards the opponent draws). And gandora is raw but contained power. In a way gandora is not only yugi’s potential but a chaotic entity that yugi has contain through the strength of his character.
I just realized why obelisk is considered the best form in Duel Academy.
Kaiba opened it, he has obelisk so of course it’s top tier. Slifer was used by Yugi, kaiba hates him so it’s bottom.
That’s a level of petty I love
It's also funny because canonically in the anime Ra is the strongest god card, not Obelisk.
@@AeonKnigh432 kaiba likely saw that his strategy of beating Ra, put him and by extension Obelisk above Ra
I loved how Yusei ended the final Duel with Junk Warrior. Truly epic
I know it’s not a monster but for Joey I find that Graverobber works as an ace card it won two duels and help big time in another(maybe there’s more I can’t remember), also funny thing about Kuribo it’s the only monster beside Dark Magician to appear pass Duelist Kingdom in the manga anyway
So that’s not a ace…
I would argue that Joey's Aces are panther Warrior and Rocket Warrior
Junk Warrior is my favorite because I like it appear in the 1st and last episode of 5D's
Flame Wingman is even referred to as Jaden’s favorite hero in a card name.
In Jaden's last duel against professor crowler Jaden says to Flamewingman "You still are my Favorite hero" as flamewingman wins the duel the same way he did in the first episode.
Jaden/Judai stated that Flame Wingman is his favorite monster and Neos is his Ace Monster.
When you think about it, lifestream dragons appeared way before he got used in the 5ds show, and was hidden in power tool dragon witch was Leo’s ace, meaning Leo in lore should’ve been the real 5th signer than crow, meaning there’s a universe where Leo would have the mark that yusei has now, meaning Leo was robbed of his mark
Though out the secondary ace monsters D/D/D King Armageddon is my Lest favorite. He’s so dumb without any limbs 😸
The Gagaga Girl bit with the Frankenstein's monster monster (?) was savage 😆
Emotional damage !
Actually D.D and D/D/D are related. Even though their effect doesn't work together but D/D Spell/Trap cards show a lot of D.D monsters in the artwork.
With Shinning Neos Wingman released this year, you can get the best of both monsters. It feels a natural fusion to happen.
With Vrains, I saw a very compelling argument on Tumblr, that Transcode Talker would be a good card to associate with Playmaker. He got it at the end of season 1 and used it at every season end in his duels.
21:16 Yeah, I saw that during the arcana duel and I was like: ''Arent her eyes too big?'' But I always thought that for some reason, those off model eyes made her look more determined for some reason.
Hm, I would’ve liked to see Dark Magician Girl and GaGaGa Girl meet each other, I wonder how they would interact?
This was a great roundup. I feel you on that super heavy hockey player archetype.
Instead of a layman for alternate Jaden, I’d say it was bubbleman. His ability was always used to refill Jadens hand, he had a tonne of support cards and abilities to get Jaden out of a tight spot
I don't even remember that REBD was used so rarely! I always thought he summoned it in every other duel.
I always thought Kaiba's Swordstalker was a cool card that shoulda been a main secondary monster. Cool design, cool name, and was as strong as Curse of Dragon during that arc
A lot of the times I like the secondary aces more than the actual aces
Flame swordsman is such a badass monster easily my top 10 favorite designs! Such a shame that we didn’t get a massive deck built around it and massive upgrades to the card.
Always felt bad for Bladedge with Neos stealing his thunder!
My Ace monster is Voltic Bicorn, while AOJ • Decisive Armor is my secondary one!
Would Kuriboh be considered the Pikachu of Yu-Gi-Oh?
Swordsman of Landstar got one of my favorite retrains, Comrade Swordsman of Landstar who is a level 3 tuner that boosts the attack of your other warriors
Yusei! Show him your junk
Warrior. Your Junk Warrior!
Such a good video and crew to discuss this with.
Also, Junk Warrior all the way!
For once in a yugioh top ten I’m baffled. Joey my dude, I’m speechless. He had this many random monsters and was still number 3
Shout out to Sam for shouting out the man, Gongenzaka. He's probably my favorite Yugioh character of all time and is what really kept me watching.
7:44
We got a better Black-Winged Dragon in Darkwing Blast last year, and he's just as playable as Full Armor Master
Yeah, he is a great boss monster as he constantly threatens the opponent with burn damage and a big field nuke
"When I saw Gagaga Magician used for the first time, i was like oooh-"
*My UA-cam crashes*
*"**14:34**;" JUNK WARRIOR MY BOY!!!!!*
SCRAP FIST!!!
@@neogotham2k395 😎👍
I remember there were 2 anime exclusive landstar cards as well, in the waking the dragons arc
I thought Gilford the Lightning is one of the notable signature cards of Joey. It's his pseudo version of the god cards because of the 3 tributes to activate its Raigeki effect.
It was definitely an awesome card, cool design and solid effect, but he legitimately pulled it out his butt in the battle city finals and we never heard from it again. There was never even any indication he had that card or where he got it from.
Celtic Guardian
Black-Winged Dragon would be soo much better with an errata. Making it that if an opponent activates a monster effect you can place a BW Counter on BWD reduce its attack by 700. And keep the original rebound effect. So it'd be a balancing game like appaloosa but you can gain that attack back and burn as well.
D/D/D stands for different dimensions demon in jp
Flame Wingman will always be Jaden's real ace to me, still a cool list though. Characters definitely have more than one ace in many cases. Kaiba on the other hand had a second copy and third copy of Blue-Eyes as his alternative aces.
I disagree with Kuriboh being Yugi's, it's definitely DMG or Slifer. Kuriboh is what we refer to as his "spirit monster", like Winged Kuriboh for Jaden. Not an ace, but a spirit.
Hm, this was very interesting, I could see where you were coming from with pretty much all of these, i wonder what other Secondary Signature Monsters there is in Yu-Gi-Oh?
I will look forward to that Part 2 you were talking about.
Judai's ace in the first season of GX was Shinning Flare Wingman, as an update of his Wingman and the 2500 atk card. Then Neos came...
Comrade of Landstar, Swordsman's retrain, is pretty good
30:10 No it's Jinzo since after he got it, Joey used Jinzo in basically every duel he had and it was usually pretty effective.
I love the fruit magician girls, "YOU FIGHT ME WITH FRUIT" IS SO FUNNY!
I've thought about everything you all said for number one. I've never heard anyone talk about it out loud awesome analysis guys.
Top 10 Tengu -
Tengu Warriors (MMPR movie), Tengu the Winged Mayakashi (Yu-Gi-Oh), Shiftry (Pokemon), etc.
Decode didn't do anything special to earn the primary ace title, even watching through the anime, I can't see it as an ace
I love you Mr Top Ten List!
I was so hyped when Dark Magician Girl first show up in the anime
Heck yes!!! 6 Seconds after seeing this pop up in my feed!!! Also yay!!! Judgement Meter!!!
A winner is you!
Woo! More Yugioh content! My favorite anime ever!
Interesting to consider that Joey never played Red Eyes very much in manga canon even though it's his signature card. -- A.T.
Fun fact about the d/d archetype, they're name also stands for different dimension making they're name even more confusing
Joey is definitely a main character archetype by using his previous opponent's aces.
Wait, what about Black Luster Soldier, Gaia the Fierce Knight and Dark Magician of Chaos (or was it Magician of Black Chaos)? All of these were clearly important enough to get retrains, alternate versions and other monster cards featuring them as well.
I love junk warrior
Love these videos. Judgement Meter is always great!
Jaden uses Flame Wingman and Neos the same number of times across the entire series, which I think is a neat thing.
Also, I really wish that Joey had used Gearfried more. He only used the Swordmaster variant once.
Junk Warrior is the best secondary ace for me and in my mind is Yusei’s true ace. Stardust always felt a bit tacked on to me but JW represented him and his deck I feel, showed off Yusei’s strengths and just fit into his deck more naturally. It was also more unique to him and way more fun to watch. With Stardust, all he did with it (from what I remember) is either just boost it’s atk or upgrade it; he never did any cool strats with it or even use it’s effect that much. Watching him boost JW’s atk to like 4000 or something will never not be cooler and is something not just anyone can do. Anyone can put Stardust in their deck and have success with it: offensive decks, defensive decks, good duelists and bad duelists can all use it as effectively as Yusei, but not everyone can use JW like him.
Plus it won him his very 1st duel in the series and was the last card in the series he played, which further cements it as being his ace to me
Joey’s ace was his crippling gambling addiction and he secondary ace was your ace
Dark Magician was technically the secondary signature monster to begin with. Yugis original ace was Summoned Skull. Dark Magician was actually Solomon Mutos ace, but Yugi kept using his grandpas deck, though notably he added Summoned Skull to it and used it a lot early on.
Signer dragons are so cool, black wing is bad but it's so freaking pretty!
I had no idea Kaiba'a contemporaries were also his "constituents" 🙄
Top 10 decks based on other properties
super quant: based on power rangers
kaiju: based on the godzilla series
danger: based on cryptids
entity: based on H.P. Lovecraft creatures
frightfur: based on 5 nights at freddys series
A-Z machines: based the power ranger zords & megazords
dragonmaid: based on the anime of the same name
I always considered Wingman Jaydens ace, even if he did go on to use a Neos more. But I always found it weird how it took until season 2 to reveal what would be considered his actual ace. While the monster he won his first and last on screen duels with is largely considered secondary. Idk
Seto:”As President of Kaiba Corp. I declare this invalid!”
Obelisk the GOAT secondary and goes perfectly with Kaiba.
I agree
Seto, Obelisk the Tormentor
Marik, Winged Dragon of Ra
Pharaoh, Slifer the Sky Dragon
One of those Saggi appearances was a rare Japanese version mess up. Against the masked guys. Kaiba says he’d sacrifice vorse raider for this thing when his next turn came (He didn’t specify a name)
The English dub fixes it, but the monster chosen was “dragon seeker” not very powerful at all. Cyber tech alligator would have worked better really
Wretched Ghost of the Attic should be errata’d to fit more in line with the Kuriboh archetype. Make it a zombie/fiend type called Ghost Kuriboh with the effect that after its destroyed by battle or effect and sent to the GY, you can target one zombie monster from the deck, GY, or hand and special summon it in Defense, except for Ghost Kuriboh (Ghosturiboh? Des Kuriboh?), and you take no battle damage for the rest of that turn. I think it’d work along side them and give a nice bit of zombie/fiend support (primarily zombie)
Clayman is the true second ace yes! I loved Clayman’s design so much as a kid my mom got me a Clayman card cake for my 8th birthday.
I'm seriously surprised there was no mention of the XYZ Dragon Cannon when talking about Kaiba.
“Because anime’s ban list must match the real world’s”
Well, I mean the entire anime is just 1 big commercial
I'd definitely say Flame Swordsman is Joey's other ace monster, because it becomes just as strong as the Dark Magician when Joey equips it with Salamandra just like Red Eyes became the same strength as a Blue Eyes when it was equipped with Dragon Nails. To me that shows those are his two monsters that make Joey on par with the likes of Yugi and Kaiba.
Love that segment talking about Big Benkei, verry funny
The part that makes me laugh is that black winged dragon doesn't even count as a black wing monster but a cool idea for a monster over all I once tride to use him to keep from paying coast for solemn judgement ask me how that went lol
Seriously though fuck Crow, his status as one of the 5D's main trio was a studio mandate that even bumped Ishizu to meager supporting character.
One of these days we’ll have Gagaga lady
Holy shit I actually have full armor master irl that card is so cool! I drew like 2 or 3 blackwing cards from my 3 battles of legend crystal revenge packs
With Yugi you could say Dark Magician Girl or the magical fluff ball of doom as his secondary boss monsters, but I would also argue for Summon Skull, at least for season 1
3:29 you could also mention the XYZ dragon cannon kaiba’s response to atem’s Magnet warriors.
Jayden's secondary ace was Rottweiler, used it in almost every duel.
AND a lot of people still thinks that Firewall Dragon is Yusaku's ace
He was, until they realized they'd have to ban him so wrote him out of the story lmao
And they were right
100% joeys secondary ace is gilford because it’s the ace of his secondary deck type Warriors, it’s gotten a remaster and it’s the fusion and ritual link between his first deck type red-eyes/dragons deck it’s his equivalent of yugi’s Gaia which 100% should be yamis secondary ace because it is literally his decks second ace and combo peice with so much curse of dragon, fusion and ritual support for it and black luster solider ❤
Now for judai’s ace!
Bubble man: stands up
That’s right it’s flame wing man!
Bubble man: sits back down
I would say that Yusei’s true ace monster was Speed Warrior. He uses it for his first turn in almost every battle it seems
23:28 fun fact. There is a card called "curse of dragon, the cursed dragon"
Joey secondary Ace was scapegoat he used it in every duel
"Black-winged dragon" is better than they said in this video. I've won so many duels using its ability to either inflict burn damage, weaken my opponent's monsters, and prevent me from losing life points.
The joey segment is my favorite
The amount of times I heard dark magician, flame wingman, shining flair wingman, elemental hero neos, stardust dragon!!! I kind of stopped watching the show after that but I feel like the only way I'm going to get a crash course on all the new Yu-Gi-Oh cards I've missed between the end of the synchro era and now is to just watch the anime and maybe that will teach me most of the cards
Underrated hero : Sparkman
14:15 no dees this nuts jokes!
