ok, actually admittedly three of the cards here have pretty interesting explanations. - Hungry Burger being a warrior seems to be a bit of a joke. See, warriors are classified since they can fight, and our burger here "fights hunger" - Skull Guardian being summoned by "Novox's Prayer" make sense since its lore is that it's a guardian that prevents cheating. Actually what happened, and the dub kind of flubbed this: Fortress Whale is actually Mako’s rarest monster. So Mako gave him THAT per the rules of the tournament, but then gave him The Legendary Fisherman, because it was an honorable duel. That’s why he didn’t hand over the ritual spell.
Iirc didn’t they do two ante cards cause they were also betting two locator cards……it’s been awhile since I seen the anime but I thought it was because they essentially did a double or nothing type of duel.
@@antg2183 No, it was the honor thing. Weevil and Joey also wagered two locator cards, but Weevil only anted his Insect Queen. Mako was simply a more honorable duelist, and felt Joey had earned a card he could use.
Mako also gave Joey the Legendary Fisherman card because he was "letting go," as he kept it in his deck as a "memento" of his father, despite the fact that Mako was still looking for him.
@@petersimpson4648 Mako was never looking for his father, because his father is dead. The idea that he was merely missing is an invention of the dub. Mako’s father is dead. Straight up.
Ritual summon mechanic back then was actually great for the game. Yeah they were glorified beatsticks outside of relinquished. But they offered a means of special summoning back when it was actually rare. It added a bit of speed to the game and allowed one to comeback in a duel. By being able to drop a big monster without having to only tribute from the field.
@@scantyer But what if you're in a position where u need a big monster now. And have no tributes on field for summoned skull? You can ritual summon a big monster.
@@scantyer Tribute from hand. And you can use 1 monster if you have a high level one that meets the level requirement. The main flaw with ritual summon was the lack of search cards for them to make it consistent.
Ok, follow me on this. Maybe the chef in Hamburger Recipe IS The Bistro Butcher but before he lost his hand! He made this burger that bit off his hand and he got it replace with a hook and went dark and evil to become The Bistro Butcher! Makes sense in a weird way, right???
I actually used Fortress Whale in my Neo Daedalus + Mermail/Atlantean's deck once Pre-Preparation of Rights came out. Being able to +1 with a Water Monster and overlay with another Level 7 Water for Abyssgaios was great.
So, since this video came out, Konami made an archetype of chefs and demon foodstuffs to reference and support Hungry Burger. It even has a card with a guy doing the Hamburger Recipe pose, and it can wipe your opponent’s field if you make the original Hungry Burger. They also retrained Skull Guardian (alongside 2 other ritual monsters) into an archetype, and made Novox an actual monster card.
In lore doriado is said to be the teacher of the 4 original charmers hiita wynn eria and aussa given that she is also fire wind water and earth, I always found that backstory interesting
same, thats why I got so interested in Charmers so much. Idk why Konami didnt try to put Doriado in the Charmer structure deck and make her as a boss monster for them with a new retrain
16:28 Years later, Skull Guardian would get a new Ritual Monster, a new Ritual Spell, and new titles that read "The Voiceless Voice". The new monster would be called "Skull Guardian, Protector of the Voiceless Voice", and the Ritual Spell would be called "Prayers of the Voiceless Voice", as well as the girl in the artwork getting her own card, called "Lo, the Prayers of the Voiceless Voice". It seems also that it has ties with Saffira and Sauravis, who previously had Ritual Monsters of their Dragon form, and with the Voiceless Voice cards, they are in their Human Form. The plot certainly thickens, but it's still unclear as to who the enemy is and why Skull Guardian is being summoned by Lo, nor the role Saffira and Sauravis play
I remember back in high school I always had Carb Turtle in my deck trying to make it some op card that would win all my duels since it was the best ritual card I had than, I don’t think I every manage to summon it once though that could’ve been because of bad deck building
I always used to put a ritual in my deck once I got the spell and monster card since I thought it was cool too. I remember I had Performance of Sword in there at some point until I realized that they weren't viable at all
I found a use for Doriado, In historical Skull Servant decks predating Phantom Darkness but after Strike of Neos. You Summon her with advanced Ritual art in order to dump all three skull servants into the graveyard, Witch would give King of Skull Servants 3000 attack points right off the bat.. It’s dumb, but it kinda works.
In a dark time where only 3 type of booster packs where available, the few ritual summons could be a good thing. Special summons where rare at that time and placing 2 instead of 1 monster was a good thing, even if their stats mostly sucked.
yes, mostly the reason why they have "alt versions/counterparts" is to fill space and add extra character and variety recycling models... XD just like in Digimon videogames and or Yokai Watch, mario bros clouds, castlevania, Final Fantasy and so... A classic videogame thing, they had to be resourceful wih limited memory.
4:06 -Well duh..a tiger conflicts with the lifestyle and adaptations of a turtle. A crab would fit it but only gain further support to what it is used to. Basically a crab with thicker armor. Tiger loses its mobility, agility, speed, range and a lot of power to certain appendages. Crab just keeps being crab with better defence.
New card, Demonic Chef, Effect: When this card is on the field along with Bistro Butcher you may Special summon Hungry Burger in Face up attack mode. If Hungry Burger is destroyed you may special summon it again at the start of your standby phase if Demonic Chef and Bistro Butcher are still on the field.
We even recorded something for Masked Beast, but since he was in a major battle in the anime, we put him in Black Luster Soldier tier where we didn't overtly mention him
17:59 tho no one ever rlly trivia skull guardians but he’s basically a protector of justice who comes to insert justice by brutal means he sacrificed his humanity to become a spirit a justice to be called upon for times of great need. The women is praying for him to be summoned into her world to protect it against the dark forces of evil
Dark Doriado is actually the teacher of the Charmer's in the Lore is if remember correctly ( i think it was mentioned in duel terminal lore connected to Wynn/Winda the "Shaddol" saga )
Doriado, the Elemental Mistress was the teacher of the Charmers and took Aussa, Hiita, Wynn, and Eria under her wing so they could learn the four elements, Earth, Fire, Wind, and Water. After achieving her dark and light forms, Doriado took in two orphans, Lyna and Dharc, and it seems they're connected to one another, because the artworks on both Familiar Possessed Cards has a blue link between their wrist shackles and their backgrounds mirror one another perfectly
Relinquished is still kinda usable. Between it and Thousand-Eyes Restrict it's the easier of the two to actually bring out if you want to use it as intended (as opposed to just easy removal), and its effect is pretty solid, with replenishable limited battle protection and a damage reflection effect. A good Relinquished Turbo deck can take games off of unprepared netdeckers quite often.
I’m glad you mentioned that Rituals are becoming more viable. It proves that you actually pay attention to the current meta and aren’t just an anime fan 😅 Love your content as always! Keep up the great work

Speaking of Weird Monsters in Yu-Gi-Oh, how about a list of the Top 10 Yu-Gi-Oh Monsters with Weird Types. Cards like Headless Knight, who's a Fiend Type, but should've been a Zombie Type. Hungry Burger, which is a Warrior Type, but seem to fit the Fiend Type monsters. Skull Knight, a Spellcaster Type, but should've been either a Warrior, Fiend or maybe Zombie Type.
This is a series that could go on forever it feels, with how inconsistent Konami is with types. Like how gor some reason like 3 of the Genex monsters are not machines but.... Spellcasters???
@@MrTopTenList If you want, here's, what I think would be 10 good choices. 10. Impachi. A Machine Type Monster that looks like it would better fit the Plant Type Monsters. 9. The Magnet Warriors, Alpha, Beta, Gamma and their combined form. All of them are Rock Types, but considering that they're based on magnets, wouldn't it make more sense if they were either Machine, or Thunder Type? 8. Pyramid Turtle. While I do understand why it's a Zombie Type, as it's effect is tie in with any Zombie with 2000 DEF or less, the thing is, is that more Turtle-Themed monsters are typically Reptile or Aqua. Obviously, since it's a turtle with a pyramid for a shell, it can't be Aqua Type. 7. Dark Witch and Dunames Dark Witch. I pitted both of them together, primarily because they're Fairy Types, when understand normal circumstances, witches commonly fall under the Spellcaster category. 6. Winged Dragon Guardian of the Fortress #2. It looks like a Dragon, has a blue various that is a Dragon, and has the word Dragon in its name, but for some reason is a Winged Beast monster. 5. Crawling Dragon #2. It looks like a Dragon, has a counterpart that is a Dragon, and had the word Dragon in its name, but instead it's a Dinosaur. (I feel like I repeated myself.) 4. The Occult/Undead Fiend monsters, the ones that Bakura uses, Headless Knight, Gross Ghost of Fled Dreams, Portrait's Secret, and a few others. All these monsters clearly should be Zombie Types, but all of them are Fiend Types. 3. Hungry Burger. A sentient hamburger that's a Warrior Type, for some reason. Personally, it think it's best suited as a Fiend Type. 2. Skull Knight. A Spellcaster, that looks nothing like a Spellcaster, and is a Fusion Monster that requires 2 Fiend Types, IE Ancient Brain and Tainted Wisdom, so why isn't it a Fiend Type? But if it couldn't be a Fiend Type, then I could also see him as a Warrior Type, or, maybe a Zombie Type. 1. A three-way tie between Oppressed People, People Running About and United Resistance. Oppressed People Is an Aqua Type, for some reason. People Running About is Pyro Type, for some reason. And United Resistance is a Thunder Type for some reason. And unlike the previous 9 where I could at think of an alternate type for, these three I can't think of anything.
I kinda wished that Hungry Burger was released later in the Gx era or got a retrained called Lucious Grilled Cheese as a nod to Chumley working for Pegasus.
Novax's prayer is probably someone praying for a warrior to fight evil and skull guardian is the result. since it's a light attribute it kind of makes sense.

Hungry Burger is simply a mimic. Mimics are kind of odd in general, but in that context it makes complete sense. Same class of fantasy beings that have provided us with living Pokeball Voltorb/Electrode
This video is inspiring me to make a theoretical archetype called "Ritual Revenge" or something similar. Like the monsters are all super buffed versions of these old school ones, and the spells and traps reference the ritual performers. My personal favorite one I came up with would be "Dokurorider Forever", that or "Hungry Burger Deluxe". Support Monsters would be the beings behind the ritual spells like "Garma Knights" and "Super War Hound". Spells would have to do with accelerating ritual monsters out onto the field with cards like "Nightmare Kitchen", or "Novox's Anguish". Traps could be stalling-based, like "Mant Mantle" having Swords of Revealing-Light type of ability and "Mirror On The Wall" having search power. Also, for that #1, Duel Links taught me this jank ass strat back in the day: There's a trap card called "Fu-Rin-Ka-Zan" or something, that when activated can activate one of many busted effects. Draw 2 cards, halve your opponents life points, you got to pick. The catch is that it can't be activated unless you have a Fire, Water, Earth, and Wind monster on the field at the same time.
Zera in the italian version of the card is named “Zera la Manta” where Manta means “manta Ray” the fish... but it still makes no sense. I guess it has a color scheme similar to a manta ray...
Oh wow never expected number 1 but i love it since i really like Elemental Mistress Doriado i made a deck to turbo her out and use Fuh-Rin-Ka-Zan and it wasnt bad it failed to apply much pressure so even when i used Fuh-Rin-Ka-Zan sometimes multiple times it was hard to close out games so they had a good chance of coming back. Anyways loved the video, in the beginning when negetive x says im still here the way he said it was so good every time i play it i cant help but laugh, just wanted to mention that.
Those 3 in the video still image take me back. Weird part is I remember their cards to summon them were mixed up. The damn Hamburger needed the turtle card. The dancing lady needed the burger recipe. Mistakes certainly. I remember buying almost everything on this list from a fella in my hometown. Wish I remember who he was I could've bought the whole booklet he had before he closed up shop. Back before GX packs even came out.
As a fan of Doriado it always makes me think if she ever has any relations to the Charmer archetype, my most favorite archetype of all, and we could possibly see another retrain of her, maybe a link form, that connects her to them with this type of effect since she works around every element minus Dark.
10:55 In the last season of the Anime, it is shown that “Modern” monsters have ancient counterparts. Including weird machine types like Shovel Crusher. I imagine the ancient counterpart would be a Monstrous ancient asiatic food
Hungry Burger is actually a reference to a "russian roulette" game in the manga where Mokuba and Yugi spin a wheel and eat whatever it lands on. Most of the food is poisoned, as Joey finds out by going first, and Mokuba will only give out the antidote if Yugi wins. Mokuba is secretly cheating by using a hidden button to control his spins, and Yugi overcomes this by tying the millennium puzzle to the wheel so that it shatters the bottle hiding Mokuba's button. Then, they play legitimately, and on the final spin, Yugi gets a pile of unpoisoned pancakes, whereas Mokuba gets a poisoned, you guessed it, giant burger. So that's what Hungry Burger is referencing, and that's why it's usually associated with Mokuba.
@@MrTopTenList technically its said she has connections to the Charmer archetype as she is their mentor in the lore. So its possible in the future we will see another retrain of Doriado (hopefully as a link monster) and she could be the boss monster for the archetype.............maybe
I've seen Carrotweight so often, he feels normal to me. As I said, Hungry Burger is now pretty comparable to some of the comedic, yet viable monsters in the game
Tack on a few basic effects like "this card can't be targeted or destroyed by card effects" or battle piercing damage or whatever & it would of been viable.
@@Aloyus_Knight I miss this game a lot but it's just like... maybe they would have more interest if cards didn't read like literal and figurative fine print. Keywords. Duel Links. The game may be fun if they could condense. My comment here is the length of a card text. Here goes: I think the way they set up card text is what is driving people away from the game. I grew up with YGO and loved the game. Maybe 2005-2010, then I tried MTG. I eventually settled on Duel Links but found it to be way too pricey for a game made by a company known for making some surprising decisions. Imagine Duel Links 2 and Konami's executives decide it's fine to instantly make Duel Links an obsolete service with realized losses. If a Duel Links deck costs hundreds of dollars, there's an issue with them creating a paywall meta. There were always viable cheap options you could buy a set to get some kind of competitive list together. I ran Desperado for a while, Ancient Gears, Triamids, that one f2p control archetype uhh... Garden Fairy deck? Getting a little financial about it but they make really fun digital CCG it's just that they are very hesitant to change. The entire concept Konami had for a condensed version of the game was not sound because the unintended side effect is that you have to learn to read paragraphs as long as this comment to understand a card, but then you forget about a conditional modifier to the effect or something and you mess up your turn order or blunder the game. That's just stressful. Is it a casual game or are we metadecking like Konami is steering the player base with their incremental power creep (not bad by itself) but then the whole casual aspect starts to disappear yet KoG is pretty easy compared to the top ranks of the competitors. Like the ladder alone is not great, and Konami is basically resting their marketing team and letting DKayed (mainly him but also content creators) run like unofficially official tournaments? It's one way to get the community involved but as a business, they're putting their trust in the life decisions of one person - maybe his priorities change. As I understand they have a relationship but it's just so unusual and risky for a company that is also very slow to change. Why is their app so poorly programmed? Their website is... yeah. It's like a time machine back to 2003 internet. I think keywords + re-release of "remastered" old sets. Maybe it would bring back the nostalgic fans to the TCG shops to play the game. I miss it a lot. Hope the rant about the state of the franchise as a whole is well taken. I don't have nostalgia goggles but I think they're just running their businesses in ways that don't make sense. ^Now read that every time a new card hits the table. Gotta admit, "Hell's Kitchen, but real" really caught me off guard and gave me a good laugh
Just so you all know doriado has a connection to the elemental Charmers. Their her apprentices.

Joey can use legendary fisherman but he can't summon fortress whale without the spell card.Joey does have his own ritual which is lord of the red
By being able to drop a big monster without having to only tribute from the field.
no it wasn't. they were always trash when stuff like summoning skull existed.
@@scantyer But what if you're in a position where u need a big monster now. And have no tributes on field for summoned skull? You can ritual summon a big monster.
@@bronxishomenomatterwhereig3149 if you dont have a tribute on the field how tf are you gonna find 2 tributes for ritual monsters?
@@scantyer Tribute from hand. And you can use 1 monster if you have a high level one that meets the level requirement. The main flaw with ritual summon was the lack of search cards for them to make it consistent.

Ok, follow me on this. Maybe the chef in Hamburger Recipe IS The Bistro Butcher but before he lost his hand! He made this burger that bit off his hand and he got it replace with a hook and went dark and evil to become The Bistro Butcher! Makes sense in a weird way, right???
Fun fact about Zera Ritual: The Warrior of Zera was depicted on that card (and thus, as his evil final form) before his card was printed.

@@IamJerf They do put Dark Doriado now, I have the structure deck

Ah, the good ol' days where whoever gets the highest attack monster that's protected with either one or two trap cards win
Good times
I'm Glad Fortress whale got a retrained version in Citadel Whale
yes, mostly the reason why they have "alt versions/counterparts" is to fill space and add extra character and variety recycling models... XD just like in Digimon videogames and or Yokai Watch, mario bros clouds, castlevania, Final Fantasy and so... A classic videogame thing, they had to be resourceful wih limited memory.
Hooray!!!!
More Yu-Gi-Oh Top 10, looks like Today is my Lucky Day.
When i first started i got like a billion “hungry burgers” and not a single “burger recipe”. Seems like a scam.
8:24 Giant Pogo Stick of Doom sounds like a legitimate Yugioh card
Well this video aged well considering Hungry Burger isn't weird at all anymore since it got an archetype
No once per turn effect, no activating, no restrictions on the monster, no specification where the monster is summoned from
Genuinely insane card
F in the chat for the masked beast whom could attack over black luster soldier for 200 damage ☕
Fiend's Mirror looks more like a Ritual Spell than a Monster.
Imagining a Mirror's Fiend as the counterpart card would be clever and silly.
Dark Doriado is actually the teacher of the Charmer's in the Lore is if remember correctly ( i think it was mentioned in duel terminal lore connected to Wynn/Winda the "Shaddol" saga )
You are correct. Partially it's just Doriado that is the mentor to the elemental Charmers.
We need a Doriado link retrain to act as the official boss monster for Charmer supports.
who's with my idea
Doriado, the Elemental Mistress was the teacher of the Charmers and took Aussa, Hiita, Wynn, and Eria under her wing so they could learn the four elements, Earth, Fire, Wind, and Water. After achieving her dark and light forms, Doriado took in two orphans, Lyna and Dharc, and it seems they're connected to one another, because the artworks on both Familiar Possessed Cards has a blue link between their wrist shackles and their backgrounds mirror one another perfectly
Ritual monsters wouldn't be so bad if you could summon them without both cards in hand
Skull Guardian has a retrain now in the Voiceless archetype :D
Yeah
Yeah
Love the content 🤘 especially all the different fighting game characters I'm learning about. Keep it up!
Thank you! Always more fighting game stuff on the way!
For a general vanilla ritual monster, Fortress Whale is a $200 card IRL...

@@lokephoenix1039 I know. I was lucky enough to get one through a trade a few years ago.
Fast forward 3 years later, burger archetype was made. Also Novox and Skull Guardian have some new cards that explain their relationship.

Don't eat eat it! It will consume you from the inside!
Hungry burger was used by a chef duelist in gx

Relinquished is still kinda usable. Between it and Thousand-Eyes Restrict it's the easier of the two to actually bring out if you want to use it as intended (as opposed to just easy removal), and its effect is pretty solid, with replenishable limited battle protection and a damage reflection effect. A good Relinquished Turbo deck can take games off of unprepared netdeckers quite often.
I’m glad you mentioned that Rituals are becoming more viable. It proves that you actually pay attention to the current meta and aren’t just an anime fan 😅 Love your content as always! Keep up the great work
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! I follow the modern meta since I do like to see what's being introduced and which old archetypes are getting support and I'm an avid Duel Links player, so I technically still play actively, just not the physical game
Turtle oath contains a Dragonball nod. The Turtle school practices wearing a large turtle shell to increase physical strength
The card art features a turtle shell prepared to be worn
Doriado is also related to the Familiar Possesed storyline.
I think hungry burger was based on the Manga where mokaba poisoned Joey and Tristan with a burger
That's a good topic!
The entirety of the Wyrm monster type
A lot of cards in yugioh with spider in its name are insect type. Spiders aren't insects.
(I feel like I repeated myself.)
13:43, don't you mean AANG-sty? GET IT?!
Yeah, if only Zera had some effect or something to make it worthwhile. Like a ritual retrain?

I have a good idea about why the chef in hamburger recipe doesn’t have a card: it’s because the burger ate him.
He died.

Hungry Burger is simply a mimic. Mimics are kind of odd in general, but in that context it makes complete sense. Same class of fantasy beings that have provided us with living Pokeball Voltorb/Electrode
Are we just gonna ignore that skull guardian is just a discount kabutops?
Can’t believe hungry burger got an archetype mother fu##ing hungry burger
I’m hoping the other early ritual monsters like maybe the turtle archetype
I'm back just in time for 50k! Congratulations man
Thank you! Thanks for sticking around!
Older rituals were weird and that's what made them interesting.
I always assumed that Mant was short for Manticore.
If Fiend's Mirror was designed with silver foil to make the card a literal mirror then maybe it would've been cool

Doriado is said to be the mentor of the Charmer girls, and she herself wields the Dark (and presumably also Light in the lore) attributes

@@Aloyus_Knight I miss this game a lot but it's just like... maybe they would have more interest if cards didn't read like literal and figurative fine print. Keywords. Duel Links. The game may be fun if they could condense. My comment here is the length of a card text. Here goes:
I think the way they set up card text is what is driving people away from the game.
And remember it and all its conditions. This game reminds me of law school prep. for that one simple but critical flaw. Not with the game but the way they present the information. Konami pls fix
