She’s one of the greatest vocalist that doesn’t get talked about enough. Her discography is amazing. My mom used to to play her while cooking and cleaning back in the 80s
Was she big? Yes, indeed she was. Her voice....was one of a kind. She sang R&B, but it was more than that. She respected and fully embraced our culture...and we adopted her. She loved us, and we loved her right back, twofold. RIP Vanilla Child...
Yes! Teena is one of the best singers, writers, and producers in music history. The way she appreciated and thus became a part of Black culture is truly amazing. "Square Biz" "Lovergirl" and "Ooo La La La" are some of her biggest hits and her best songs you should definitely check out:D
Her ethnicity by her account was Belgian, Irish, Italian, Portuguese and Native American so yeah shes mostly white. Her talent for not sounding too white though probably stems from growing up in Oakwood Venice which was a predominantly black neighbourhood and getting the music influence through her black friends and peers. RIP she was a really amazing singer-songwriter and she also was a self thought guitarist, bassist and even played the congas! Fun tidbit is she also acted in an episode of the Beverly Hillbillies and did tap dancing!
Lady T,was known as the Queen of eye blue soul. She was huge and she played all of the instruments as well, all of them. She really took off when they used her song " Lovergirl" in a hit movie. My favorite "Out on a Limb"and Wild Horses she didn't release. We love you ,Queen.
Everyone thought she was black before any photos or performances were released. She was bigger in the soul/R&B arena than in the pop arena. She became a huge part of black music culture and remains so to this day. Some of her most recognizable recordings besides this one are "Square Biz"' "Out on a limb" "Behind the groove" "Fire and Desire" with Rick James and her biggest pop hit "Lovergirl".
THIS is WHY I love watching reaction videos, when people discover great artists and music for the first time that has been such a HUGE part of my life for so long!
OMG. You have got to listen to Square Biz, Dear Lover, Behind The Groove, and Lovergirl. AND Oh La La La....Lauren Hill used the phrase in The Fugee's FuGeLaa.
Yay! Teena Marie! She did several duets with Rick James that are all fire. Fire and Desire might be the one from the Super Freak album. Her album Starchild from 1984 has some great songs, including the emotional Out on a Limb. But like others have said: Oooh La La La, Casanova Brown, Dear Lover, Square Biz, Fire and Desire w/Rick James. Some lesser known songs but no less great: Yes Indeed, Where's California, Miracles Need Wings to Fly, and Work It. Basically, you can't go wrong in her catalog. She always sings her heart out and brings the soul.
What a joy to see this reaction. Takes me back to 1981, before videos and MTV, at my favorite dance clubs with all of my gay boyfriends. You never wanted this song to end. This and Square Biz an even bigger banger, got everyone on the floor. Thanks again Jonny you made my day!
HUGE Lady Tee fan here, and I love that you selected one of her songs to react to, its a pleasure to see her being appreciated through someone else's eyes, as I've been a fan since 1979! I think the biggest reason why Teena wasn't a bigger artist was because not enough people appreciated a white woman singing R&B so soulfully back then. Whites probably wanted her to sing more pop and rock music [like Lovergirl] and blacks back then wanted her to be darker skinned [this was post Mariah Carey area]! She also suffered from having eclectic albums fused with different genres of music [mixing r&b, jazz, folk, pop, AND rock], especially in her Epic Record years.
Lady T!!!!!! You have to prepare yourself to DEEP DIVE into the catalog of music that is TEENA MARIE affectionately known as Lady T!!!!! She is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. RIP 🕊️
I recommend that you react to Teena Marie's "Portuguese Love," "I Love Him Too," and "My Body's Hungry." In a different vein, her '80s funk rock hit "Lovergirl" is great. Rick James and Teena Marie duetting on "Fire and Desire" from the 1981 album "Street Songs" is outstanding.
Her first album did not feature her picture as Motown was unsure how well she'd be received by Black radio. After appearing on Soul Train, she was a R&B superstar
One of my favorite artists of all time. I could go on and on about all her underrated songs, but Ooo La La La is one of her popular songs I think u should react to!
Love Love Love Teena. Some of my favorites are Out on a Limb, Dear Lover, My Dear Mr. Gaye, Here's Looking at You, her cover of Wishing on a Star. My #1 go to is Portuguese Love. She mixed a lot of instruments through her songs. From my list for you to react to if you have time are My Dear Mr. Gaye and Portuguese Love.
The "Teena Marie Law" was passed by the U.S. Congress as a result of Teena Marie's successful lawsuit against Motown Records in the early 1980s. This law made it much more difficult for record companies to keep an artist under an exclusive contract without releasing their music.
Yes sir you have to delve deeper into Lady T music you wont be disappointed Please play Fire & Desire Out on a Limb Portuguese Love Suare Biz and more thank you for the memories RIP Teena
I haven’t been on the net in a bit .. love love love Teena ❤. Did you do fire and desire with Rick James yet… did I miss it … square Biz, ooo la la la, Portuguese Love etc😊
I know you don’t like many male vocalists other than bands and neither do I, but my one exception is Marc Broussard. He has all those raw bluesy vocals like Mariah after a decade and just goes INSANE. Home is my favorite and the CD version is better than the video because the video cuts it short, but it would be amazing if you did both. He’s soo underrated and not well known, but aside from Luther Vandross he’s the only guy that hits my soul singing and he’s white btw but sounds black. The whole Carenco album is amazing.
Never really heard her music but will definitely check her out though. Idk why but i always get her and tina arena mixed up ( Australian singer, don't know much about her either)
No worries,we all thought she was black 🖤, why on her first album, she didn't use her picture, because they didn't know how people would react. As they the cat caught out bag and we glad she did.
Yasss you did teena marie please you her song square bits to thanks i am talking square bitz to you ba bay square square bits thats the opening lyrics and yes teena marie was big she had hits after hits rip lady T she was not pop she was rnb
She wasn't massive. She was r&b through and through and as a white woman back then she wasn't fully accepted. Yes she was white but she was one of ours. You can't say that about Adele, or the horrible Justin Timberlake, or even Lisa Stansfield -one of my favorites. Many of her concerts were 90 percent + Black. I would recommend -of her compositions - Portuguese Love, Square Biz, Yes Indeed, Young Love, Tune In Tomorrow, Irons In The Fire, and Springtime. Of her Richard Rudolph produced songs, Now That I Have You, Behind The Groove, Alladin's Lamp, and Too Many Colors.
This is a very slippery slope sir. You have no idea what you did. Please react to Portuguese Love. The long version. OMG...You gon lose yo d@mn mind!! I love Teena & that's definitely my favorite song. I bet she played most of the instruments. She was bad as hell. Back in the day yt ppl rarely put their faces on R&B artists albums. You had to hear them & love them...then they'll see them. 😂...When you saw them it was like SIKE MUTHA FUCKA! 😜...🤣 Like What Would You Do For Love. When that music video came on w/Bobby & he was chillin in the shadows we were all groovin, but as soon as his a$$ was "exposed" we were like who the fu@k is that???🤣🤣🤣
She’s one of the greatest vocalist that doesn’t get talked about enough. Her discography is amazing. My mom used to to play her while cooking and cleaning back in the 80s
I think she never really had crossover success but she’s definitely is talked about in the Black community. We all probably have her in our top five.
Was she big? Yes, indeed she was. Her voice....was one of a kind. She sang R&B, but it was more than that. She respected and fully embraced our culture...and we adopted her. She loved us, and we loved her right back, twofold. RIP Vanilla Child...
She was not a pop singer, she was definitely an R/B soul singer!! 😊

She was huge r&b royalty. Wrote produced and arranged all of her songs. My favorite.

Tina has always been the goat…you need to go down her rabbit hole ..she is fire 🔥
Everyone thought she was black before any photos or performances were released. She was bigger in the soul/R&B arena than

Thank you so much.
Lady Tee, yasss!! Square Biz, Out on a Limb, Deja Vu, you can’t go wrong!
"Yes Indeed" & "Cassanova Brown" are two EPIC vocal performances by Lady T. Not to be missed.
13 albums. The best, ever.....drums, piano, guitar. ..miss her😢
Teena is the Ivory Queen of Soul! She wrote, produced, arranged and performed all the songs on her 13 albums!
Tina Marie is amazing!!! Enjoy getting to know her!
OMG. You have got to listen to Square Biz, Dear Lover, Behind The Groove, and Lovergirl. AND Oh La La La....Lauren Hill used the phrase in The Fugee's FuGeLaa.

Another song that shows off her vocal ability is Out on A Limb. It's my favorite by her, along with Lovergirl, Dear Lover, and Ooo La La La.
The black community refers to her as the ivory queen of soul.
There is a cover to this track performed by Curiosity Killed The Cat in the late 80s/early 90s.
One of my favorite soul artists of all time! You MUST react to “Casanova Brown”!! Now that’s a true soul classic!
INSANE vocal climax.
Alright, sounds like a good one to go with next. Thanks!
@@bridgethegapreactions listen to. TUNE IN TOMORROW.
One of my all time favorite Teena Marie songs!!!🔥🙌🏽

You should see her live version of square biz..think it was on soul train… listen to her and Rick …fire and desire!!!!!
Gotta do Out on a Limb!
Lady T!!!!!! You have to prepare yourself to DEEP DIVE into the catalog of music that is TEENA MARIE affectionately known as Lady T!!!!! She is 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. RIP 🕊️
Can't wait, I've been listening to this one all day!
Behind the Groove is one of my favorite tracks by her. Killer base line on that one too
I recommend that you react to Teena Marie's "Portuguese Love," "I Love Him Too," and
"My Body's Hungry."

Rick James and Teena Marie duetting on "Fire and Desire" from the 1981 album "Street Songs" is outstanding.
You gotta hear her on "Fire and Desire" with Rick James! That topped the charts for weeks!!! Come on Johnny...You know MOTOWN don't put out Junk!!!
Fire and Desire is a must!!!
Her first album did not feature her picture as Motown was unsure how well she'd be received by Black radio. After appearing on Soul Train, she was a R&B superstar
One of her last albums. The way you love me...from the album, Saffire.
It got some airplay on US pop stations, but it got lots of airplay in clubs, and R&B radio.
My girl!
One of my favorite artists of all time. I could go on and on about all her underrated songs, but Ooo La La La is one of her popular songs I think u should react to!
Deja Vu is the best song by Lady T in my opinion. But I love them all!
Love Love Love Teena. Some of my favorites are Out on a Limb, Dear Lover, My Dear Mr. Gaye, Here's Looking at You, her cover of Wishing on a Star. My #1 go to is Portuguese Love. Lady T!
Love Teena Marie. She was/is known as the Ivory Queen of soul. So many classic hits
Deja vu is a beautiful ballad. Square Biz funky . Anything really

You need to do the masterpiece that is Portuguese Love. Followed by Dear Mr Gaye.
Tina was hot back in the day
